I like these books but they are starting to become a bit too much to believe. I get that Sarah Booth and Tinkie are detectives, it seems like more and more Coleman, who is the sheriff, is depending on them to help him solve crimes. In this one he even assigned them to do different things.

The mystery surrounding the mound was slightly interesting. It seemed like everyone was suspect and there were a lot of people with different agendas. By the time we got to the end I was shaking my head, it was a bit to fantastical as were Sarah Booth's actions. I get it was a last ditch effort, but come on.

Wow, I have loved this series for some time. I love the characters and the mystery and Sarah is a favorite all time character. I really think this is the best book in the series. Which says a lot. I will be anxiously awaiting the next installment.

I want to Thank NetGalley and the publisher St. martin's Press for allowing me to read an ARC.

First, I can't believe I've never heard of this series. I tend to read more psych and thrillers and keep to my cozies as in between fillers. This is book 20 in the series and I very much enjoyed it. I will def be adding Ms. Haines to my list of authors.

The story revolves around Sarah Booth and her friend Tinkie, who are private investigators in Mississippi. They solve crimes with the help of their pets, Sweetie Pie, Pluto and Chablis (I love that their pets help solve mysteries). Sarah Booth and Tinkie must solve the crime of two women killed on an archeological dig, an old indian mound, in what appears to be a ritualistic murder. Main suspect is Dr. Frank Hafner (their client), who they must prove innocent. Not an easy task, when he seems like a perfect suspect. There are other characters who have a vested interest in the dig in either stopping the dig all together or funding the dig to discover what secrets and treasures it yields. Add to the story a family ghost and a romantic relationship between Sarah and Sheriff Coleman and you have a good fun read.

I recommend the book as I enjoyed it very much. I would have given it 5 stars, except for the fact that it had one too many detours before finally solving the crime - (Cece and Cissy). The fun parts, def the ghostly apparitions with warnings.

You will def enjoy this book and I look forward to reading more about Sarah Booth, Tinkie and the pets.

This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series, so when I got a chance to get an ARC on NetGalley of the newest installment, I jumped at the chance to read again about Sarah Booth, Tinkie, Coleman and Cece as well as Sweetie Pie, Pluto, and Chablis.

Dr. Frank Hafner is an archeologist working on excavating an Indian mound in the Mississippi Delta. When he discovers the ritualistic murder of one of his archeological crew and Coleman Peters, Sheriff and Sarah Booth's boyfriend, takes Dr. Hafner in for questioning in the murder, the accused doctor hires Sarah Booth to clear his name. Soon, Sarah Booth has uncovered a number of possible suspects, but she can't narrow them down fast enough to stem the continuing violence that seems to trace back to Dr. Hafner's dig. When Peter Deerstalker, a member of the Tunica tribe, mentions a curse, it doesn't seem so far-fetched--especially when a young graduate student on the site claims someone on the site is searching for something much more precious than ancient pottery. The story has a lot of twists and turns and surprises, some of which I did not expect. I highly recommend.

I have been reading about Sarah Booth Delaney over the years. In the early years, I often didn't find the books in the stores, shop. I hope to remedy that in the near future. The 20th book in the series did not disappoint.
Along the Mississippi death are mounds believe to have been built the Tunics Indian of the region. Dr. Frank Hafner is an archeologist is excavating one and there are those who are against the evacuation and others who are curious about the mounds. A member of the crew is found in a viciously MURDER on the site. Dr. Hafner, her partner is the main suspect and he hires the Detective Agency to clear him of the charge. When a second victim is found on the site. Sarah becomes determined to find the person responsible for the death of the women. Will she succeed or become a victim? I highly recommend this book and series.

Game of Bones by Carolyn Haines was one of those books that grabbed my attention from the first page and never let go until I reached the end.

Sarah Booth and Tinkie are working for a university archeologist who is under suspicion of a ritualistic murder at his current dig site. Ms. Haines' characters are all fully developed now and they are still colorful, quirky and often snarky as these two formidable women work to find a murderer. The plot is tightly woven and there were twists, turns and enough suspects to keep me guessing. This one also showed Sarah Booth coming to some realizations about herself and Coleman. There's a touch of paranormal in this one as well as spooky sightings of a zombie - or was it? I never did suspect who the murderer was until the reveal which is something I appreciate in a well told mystery.

Game of Bones is the newest adventure featuring the dynamic duo Sarah Booth Delaney and Tinkie. Members of the Zinnia community are full of excitement centered around the archaeological dig taking place right outside town. However excitement soon turns to shock when one of the members of the archaeological team is found murdered in a ritualistic fashion. Sarah Booth and Tinkie are hired to look into the murder the head archaeologist who all happens to be a suspect in the murder. Additionally Sarah Booth must search for CeCe who has disappeared suddenly after meeting with a suspect in the very same murder. Haines writes with her usual wit and includes insightful descriptions about the region and fascinating information pertaining to archaeology and local lore. The mystery was fascinating, if a bit slow paced at times. However the usual cast of Zinnia favorites including everyone's favorite haint, are present and accounted for, bringing along their usual brand of southern humor. I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery which is no surprise as I have enjoyed each of the previous in the series as well. I highly recommend this book to longstanding fans of the Sarah Booth series and also those looking for a lighthearted mystery with a touch of the supernatural.

an enjoyable read by an author that likes to have fun with her characters, even when they are solving murders. The characters are pretty unique, but they fit into their world very well. The main character, Sara Beth Delaney, has been hired to solve a murder and clear the main suspect's name. Along the way, with a little help from her friends, both alive and dead friends at that, she will take the reader along a unusual investigation. Even though this is not the first book in the series, you'll enjoy the story and find yourself looking for her other books.

This is the twentieth book in the Sarah Booth Delaney series. An archeological dig is going on at a Native American temple site. One of the workers is murdered in a ritualistic way. The head of the dig hires Sarah Booth and Tinkie to find out what happened. In between solving what happened to the archeologist, Sarah Booth also has to locate her friend, CeCe who has disappeared after meeting one of the suspects.

I thought this was a good book. I liked the archeological dig mystery and of course Sarah Booth and Colomon. The only thing that kept me from giving this five stars was that it felt very slow paced and took me a while to get into it and to get through it. But I love the characters.

I received this book from net galley in exchange for review.

Excellent! Archeology, searching to learn from the past. Throw in some murder, mystery and a touch of magic, always a good combo.
Now the wait for the next installment.

A well-constructed case, a good motive and a touch of magic.

This was my first book in this series. And that wasn’t a problem at all. Although it did take me a while to warm up to Sarah. That could have something to do with the style: first person present tense is not my favorite style. And it could have something to do with Sarah’s personality: she was so matter-of-fact and businesslike! In the case that was useful, but in her personal life… And she was impatient. But I liked that she can see spirits. And I liked her love for animals. The case was interesting and intriguing. A murder on a Native American Burial Mound. Is it a human sacrifice? The work of a serial killer? Something more personal? The work of spirits who are angry at the disturbance of the peace of the buried? I must say, the murder was a bit too gruesome for my sensitive taste. Lots of blood. But the case was so interesting it pulled me in. A well-constructed case, a good motive and a touch of magic.

It is hard to believe that this is book twenty of the Sarah Booth series. The premise of this cozy mystery is centered around an archaeological dig site where murder is found. This book is filled with romance, ghosts, historical sites and old mansions. If any of those are up your alley give this book a shot! It'll entertain you for hours to come!

Zinnia is abuzz with excitement regarding an archaeological dig outside town. Then an archeologist is found dead on site in a ritualistic murder. Dr. Frank Hafner also an archeologist is suspected in the murder. Tinkie and Sarah Booth are hired by Frank to clear his name.

Suspects abound in this mystery along with danger. Who is the guilty party and who will come out of this alive?

This is the 20th book in this series and I have enjoyed every one.

Carolyn Haines' Bones' series is always entertaining. Game of Bones is a suspenseful, southern mystery with a generous helping of humor. Sarah Boothe and her sidekick Tinkie are hired by an archeologist who is a murder suspect. The murders seem connected to a dig at an ancient mound. As they search for the killer (with the help of two dogs and a cat) Sarah Booth is visited by the spirits of Native American women who stood strong in the face of discrimination.

Love reading the adventures of Sarah Booth and her detective agency, with the unusual characters and pushy ghost that haunts Dahlia House.
In this installment, they are hired to clear the name of an archaeology professor in regards of the murder of his colleague in a ritualistic manner.
Lots of action an intrigue, in this fast paced mystery.

Caroline Haines has created wonderful characters to populate Zinnia, Mississippi. Sarah Booth Delaney is a smart, determined, Southern bred and born woman (no they are not mutually exclusive) who is not afraid of hard work. Tinkie, yes Tinkie, Bellcase Richman looks like a typical Southern Belle but has a seemingly endless supply of all the right contacts and knows just how to use them to gain needed information. Together they are the Delaney Detective Agency and have a long history of solving problems.

Game of Bones is a great murder mystery that centers around an architectural dig that is believed to be on top of ancient Indian burial grounds. There is humor, helpful animals, misdirection and murders to keep the reader interested. I enjoyed every moment I spent reading this book.

I received an Advanced Readers Copy from Minotaur Books through NetGalley. The opinions expressed are entirely my own.

This latest instalment in the series did not disappoint in its imagery. The imagery is compelling and realistic and one could visualize himself/herself in that place and time. The tone and mood of the book with its sinister plot was believable. Overall, it was good read by this author. In spite of this, I found that at times the plot was long-winded and too involved and characters did not always stay in character. The book also did not properly establish how the murders were committed. I found that the addition of Harold in only a cameo role in the end was a disservice to the book in that he could have contributed more to the storyline and its advancement. I believe that after waiting almost 19 books for Sarah Booth and Coleman to come together, her feelings shouldn’t still be tentative; after all, they were tentative for the last 19 books while they went through their various issues. Come on! Let their romance progress beyond that stage.

The Sarah Booth Delaney series is one of my all-time favorites, and Game of Bones is another wonderful addition. Two professors are both trying to gain notoriety for a dig at a site that has belonged to a Native American tribe for many years. One of the professors ends up dead, hung upside down, throat cut, and drained of all her blood. But is she really dead? And what is all the talk about voodoo? Sarah Booth and Tinkie are on the case, and what they find is pretty shocking.
