This was a great poetry book. I always absolutely enjoy her work and I can't wait to read more in the near future. I highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed the first 2 books in this poetry collection but this installment didn't resonate with me as much as the previous 2 books did.

This book was amazing. Amanda’s writing and beautiful and spoke about very important topics such as strength within yourself and walking away from toxic relationships that are unhealthy for you. It was very easy to get through and I loved it.

Such a great poetry book. I usually don't read poetry, so I was surprised how much I actually loved this book. I realized halfway through the first part that I should have probably read the first books in the series before reading this one, but I just didn't have the heart to put this one down. I will definitely check more of Amanda Lovelace's works in the future.

Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for the review copy.
My opinions are my own.

The book is in purple and so are the words, it's a beautiful book both in feelings and appearance. As a person who occasionally writes poems now, I absolutely loved this one.

I had a very good time and understanding after reading this collection, I'm glad I got to review this book.

This collection of poems by Amanda Lovelace is:
- beautiful
- strong
- hopeful
- magical
- romantic
- brave
- tragic
and also contains some poems by other poets :)

This book has several trigger warnings to begin with, they are abuse, self-harm, violence and eating disorder.

The collection is divided into four parts and all of them are there for their own uniqueness.
I've saved quite a few from each part, poems that I'd love to reread again.

There is a melody in the poems, it touches you softly and gives a warm smile :)
It's not always like that, there are low points in several poems.
The poems are hopeful, of a strong warrior to fight for ourselves and sometimes just be in bliss of love;
the last part was the most difficult for me to get through, that was when it hurt the most but after a while there was hope too, of what one can be and never let that go. Self importance is a big part which is slowly put like honey in our mouth and all we can do is taste its sweetness and let it embrace us.

I love Lovelace's poetry and this collection was no different. I have recommended it to several folks and purchased a copy for my school's library.

There are a lot of content warnings to be reviewed before reading this book, but after that, if this book is for you -- it's full of a strong female voice, lyrical language and lots of truths. What isn't to like? I don't typically choose poetry, but in the age of Amanda Gorman's and Rupi Kaur's -- if you don't read just a little poetry, you fall behind the times. I found this to be both beautiful and powerful. Lovelace crafted a series of heart wrenching poems that go into a lot of what it means to be human.

Amanda Lovelace's poetry, as usual, is full of vivid imagery and tells a story that is similar to Princess and the Witch. Some of the major themes were more difficult for me to relate to because of my personal experiences, but this is common in poetry. These pages are dedicated to overcoming adversity and moving forward, even in the face of overwhelming pain and suffering. Like the other two books in this series, I didn't feel particularly connected to any of the poems. I appreciated that other authors appeared in Mermaid, but I wished they had been more evenly distributed. The majority of the cameo poems appeared in the final section, which disrupted the narrative flow for me. It is a fitting end to a book that has helped so many people come to terms with their trauma and move on.

I think I've sort of grown out of poetry like this because I enjoyed each installment in this trilogy less and less. It's a cool idea, and there's some good quotes in here, but I can't necessarily stand by it as great poetry.

Still doesn't capture the magic of Lovelace's first collection, but beautifully written. I think it's been harder to connect with her more recent titles since they're about specific experiences.

This was probably the favorite from this poetry series. Yet i can't say that her poems blew me up. Some are raw and relatable but most of them seems confusing to me.

I wasn't able to read this one bc I couldn't get the format to work :( I'm really interested in the author's work so I will try to get a copy elsewhere! Thank you for the chance tho!

the mermaid’s voice returns in this one is the third and final instalment in this poetry series. The first one being the princess saves herself in this one, and the second was being the witch doesn’t burn in this one. The series is a collection of modern poetry that explores the world of women and the difficulties that they face on a daily basis. Lovelace portrays the feelings of suppression, assault, love, and healing, feelings and experiences that I’m sure many women (and people in general) can relate to.

The mermaid is known for her siren song, luring bedroom-eyed sailors to their demise. However, beneath these misguided myths are tales of escapism and healing, which Lovelace weaves throughout this empowering collection of poetry, taking you on a journey from the sea to the stars. They tried to silence her once and for all, but the mermaid’s voice returns in this one.

This latest instalment of poetry from Amanda Lovelace is very similar to the previous collections, so if the previous two weren’t for you, I doubt that this will be either.

When it comes to contemporary poetry like this, I’m neither a fan nor a hater. I can read it, and I can relate to most of the poems, but the style of writing said poems aren’t for me. I think I prefer the more traditional style of poetry with rhyming, and even though (obviously) that’s not the only way that poetry can be written.

What I loved the most about this collection is that it focused on the Me Too movement which is super super important for the whole world. Because of the theme of women coming together to support each other, Lovelace made an interesting choice to also include guest poets such as Nikita Gill and Gretchen Gomez.

Some of my absolute favourites from this book are Swan Song, Mother Knows Best II, and Therapy Session No.1. There are many more that I can relate to, but if I named them all, then this post would be waaaaayyy too long.

Overall, this was an interesting poetry collection and follows the same kind of formula as the previous two. As much as I admire how hard it is for people to write poetry that is so raw with feeling, I do not think that this type of contemporary poetry is for me.

I always love Amanda Lovelace’s writing. It is emotional, and heartwarming and just brilliant! This was a short but fantastic read! Can’t wait for more!

The only reason it gets two stars is because of the Nikita Gill poem in here. The rest was just a slog.

I really disliked this bundle of hers. I feel like she got tangled in her way of writing poetry, wanting to write about heartfelt subjects and expectations.
She lost her touch with this book. The pages were filled with words, not with poetry, it also felt like she was too focused in having pity for herself and other women instead of really building us up.
This was for me a complete miss

Once again I’ve been blown away by Amanda Lovelace’s poetry. I adored her past two collections and have recommended them to everyone I know. There’s just so much emotion and honesty in her poems that you can’t help but become fully invested in learning about the story behind them. This collection is a complete emotional rollercoaster. It’s divided into parts that explore topics such as abuse, self-harm, suicide and death, then moves onto the aftermath or fallout from the trauma of these and finally deals with healing. While all of her books so far have followed this format, I enjoyed how this time poems from other poets were also featured. Their words of healing, self-love and worth made Lovelace’s even more powerful. Plus, it introduced me to poets that I’ve never heard of before. I´m very much looking forward to picking up their books soon!

“she didn’t kiss frogs.
she kissed great white sharks.”

I cannot recommend this book (and the entire Women Are Some Kind of Magic series) enough. It’s an emotional journey that hits you right in the gut. You’ll cry, get angry, smile and probably have to put it down a few times but in the end, it leaves you with hope. I look forward to seeing what Lovelace will release next!

I received an e-ARC of this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I would say that this book is 2.5 stars for me, which I've rounded up to 3, I do enjoy Amanda's work and think that her subject matter is always very timely, but the more I read, the more I think that this style of poetry has to be done with a lot of heart and meaning otherwise it feels like each poem is simply a sentence with a lot of line breaks in it. I would say Amanda achieves success about a quarter of the time, but her other poems in the collection miss the mark.

I also think that there could have been more poems along the Little Mermaid theme, considering the title of this collection.

Overall, it's not a bad collection - but also not excellent. I found it to be mediocre and slightly repetitive.
