This is the second comic book of John McNamee that I was able to check out for free; the first is his Goldilocks and the Infinite Bears: A Pie Comics Collection which unfortunately I wasn't able to enjoy. I set my expectations high for this one because I thought that maybe this comic artist will finally make me laugh with this new collection. There are a few of the stories that I like in this second book of McNamee but the majority of the pages are nonsense or not funny at all. Those who follow his webcomic Pie Comics will like and might purchase this new released, but for those who are not, I think they should better skip this.

As I have said many times, humor is subjective and internet humor, even more so. And a collection of a favorite artist is one to pick up, no matter what I or others say about it.

The humor in this book is sometimes laugh out loud, and sometimes scratch my head, but mostly it is, oh, that is funny, but not enough to laugh at.

Here are some that i found amusing:

If this is the kind of humor you enjoy, or you are already familiar with John McNamee, then by all means, pick up this book.

This was alright. It is more a collection of loose comics than a graphic novel. It's interesting enough, but not for me.

I was drawn to this based on the cover and the title thinking I would find some cute and witty comics. Unfortunately, I didn't find the content itself very funny or witty, and the art style wasn't really to my tastes.

I could not get into this book. I did find some parts quite cute and funny but on the whole i wasn’t into it. I did like the format of it and how it wasn’t to crowded but the pictures were spread out and in nice readable chunks if that makes sense. I also liked how it had categories and how the comics were broken down into those categories.

This collection was just okay. Very few of these comics were even slightly funny. I would not recommend this.

The premises of this book of cartoons is that we learn in many different ways. A series of images with pithy and humorous words and clever drawings can convey truths we otherwise might not assimilate.
For me the book is a gem. A familiar resource to dip into and not take life too seriously.
Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy - Frame 1 - interesting notion.
Surgery Ain’t Easy - Frame 2 - getting the picture.
Attaining Enlightenment Ain’t Easy - Frame 3 - looks hard.
Guess I’ll Stick with Pimpin’ - Frame 4.
Loved this inverted logic, made me smile.
Elsewhere a snail ‘tripping over’ a peddle made me laugh.
Some really insightful pieces like Optimists v Extremists. Youth culture from a skateboard and blowing smoke when meeting one’s heroes or spiritual leaders. The the struggle up the the mountain to have a audience with the wise one had me in stitches.
Great wisdom here into eyebrow styles and the messages they send out. The art pieces are also pretentious and hilarious.
Much to commend it. That this form of communication remains and is still celebrated says a lot for our society and hopefully it will never wain for it conveys so much where words alone are often lost.

I haven't heard of Pie Comics before I had the opportunity to read this collection, and from what I can tell I've been missing out. Simultaneously light, but also smart and of course very, very funny, this collection of choice strips is something that nearly everyone can enjoy.

I wish that I'd liked <i>Book Learnin' </i>by John McNamee a lot more. Part of me feels like I had high expectations for this book while another part of me feels as though it simply didn't live up to a standard. You see this book and you expect it to be a clever collection of amusing comics regarding education and it just...wasn't. While some pieces were clever and some were relatable, the vast majority were not and I did not find myself laughing at a single one of the comics throughout the collection. What it comes down to is that this book had one thing going for it and that was the fact that several of the comics were fairly relatable. But even that wasn't enough to make it amazing.

The artwork was cute, but not majorly impressive. I didn't hate the time I spent reading it, but <i>Book Learnin' </i>definitely isn't the sort of book I would ever buy for myself or reread. It's more one of those books you pick up on the shelf of Barnes and Noble, flip through and nod at for a bit, and then ultimately leave on the shelf. I typically reserve buying books like this for the ones that make me laugh. And while <i>Book Learnin'</i> isn't terrible by any means, I just didn't find it very funny or insightful.

I should have looked up this coming strip before downloading the book. I was hoping for a collection of humorous comics. Sadly, I didn't find much funny about this book. I'm sure a fan of this comic strip would enjoy it though.

Thank you to Diamond Book Distributors and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

Although I enjoyed the topics addressed in the comics, only a very few made me laugh. The simple line drawings were good. I think I may just be too old to appreciate many of these.

This was my first time reading Pie Comics and I have to admit that I did not find them very funny. Only a handful of them made me actually laugh, the others were nothing special. Maybe it's just me and this is not my kind of thing. I'm sure a fan of Pie Comics would appreciate this collection.
