Ah social media- how you have changed life. Even for criminals it seems! In an attempt to find the suspect for a brutal attack, the police unknowingly set off a chain of events over one small social media post, that ultimately rips a family apart and leaves bodies in the wake. This book may start slowly, but like a good roller coaster, it lulls you into the ride before taking you on a couple of 180 turns and loops, at a screaming fast rate, making you not want to put it down, until you finish it! Even if you think you know how it will end, there's some surprises at the end of this fantastic Summer read! This will be the one talked about all Summer, so don't miss it!

Carly arrives home from school just in time to be attacked by an unknown assailant. Thanks to security cameras, the situation is easier for the police. Unfortunately, the attack goes viral and the "wrong" people see something unrelated to the attack. This escalates into a brilliant read with amazing characters.

Many Thanks to Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books and NetGalley for a great, suspenseful, read!

Loved the premise: girl protects herself, video is viral and accidently reveals a big bad secret. The piece in the background would have been overlooked by all the the single person who can make this situation get out of control. Then a few others with a vested interest in righting past wrongs.

I really enjoyed the story, the revelations that reveal true character, or lack thereof, of both good guys and bad guys,
Fun read.

4-5 stars! One of those books that absolutely grabs you in the beginning and does NOT LET GO UNTIL THE LAST PAGE! Eerie, tense, chilling, shocking, and lots of thrills take place in this atmospheric thriller. If you like those thrillers that have that creepy underlay, this is for sure your book! Well written and so fast paced!
Will highly recommend to the members of Chapter Chatter Pub!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book.

It started out with a bang, but kinda fizzled out for me in the middle. The best part was teen Carly and her detective skills. Loved Mason’s other books and while this one not so much, it’s still a good mystery.

The Hidden Things by Jamie Mason starts with a bang, and doesn’t let up! A random attack on a 14 year old girl in her house sets off a chain of events when the home’s security cameras capture the attack, and a brief glimpse at a piece of art that hangs on the wall gets the story going. The author deftly introduces the characters and the back story in such a way that it feels like the reader is putting the pieces of a large puzzle together until we see the whole picture. What a great way to tell the story, and the action never stops. You root hard for the good guys, (or girls), and it all comes together nicely. Great dialogue, interesting characters and a fantastic plot makes this a great read. Well done! This ARC was provided by the publisher via @NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Enjoyed this book very much. Let’s start with the question we were all thinking...WWCD?! I highly recommend this book, it kept me hooked from start to finish!

A missing painting from the Isabella Gardner Museum appears in the background of a video in which a teen defends herself from an attacker. The people involved find out and all hell breaks loose. What’s not to like for a lover of art heists? Turns out… a lot, in my case. I like plots that focus on the action, and The Hidden Things devotes too many words to the characters and their thoughts and feelings. There is too much detail, so I never really got into it. But my biggest problem was that I didn’t like any of the characters. They are mostly bad people with some redeemable qualities, but I couldn’t root for any of them. Carly, especially, is supposed to be a plucky teenager who gets involved in her stepfather’s schemes, but I disliked her so much that I was actively rooting against her. The book is well written and readers who value character development over rhythm will love it. It was just not to my taste.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley/Gallery Books!

Very interesting and compelling book. The plot revolves around the fallout of an art theft approximately 4 years later, and is told from multiple POVs. The characters are interesting and well-rounded, the plot is fast-paced and intriguing. I liked every character except Jonathan and Roy. I wish I had gotten more background on Donna and her relationship with both Jonathan and Carly.

A stolen painting leads this typically plot driven novel. Good characters and relationships make it a page turner

Jamie Mason is a great writer. And a better storyteller. Edgy and on point. The Hidden Things is a perfect example. The characters, typical of Mason’s other works, are well-drawn and deeply flawed. In this story, they find themselves in the midst of an art heist that goes very wrong. Not immediately, but years later when home-invasion assault during which fourteen-year-old Carly Liddell fends off her attacker. The entire event is captured by home security cameras. The video finds its way to the cyber world and becomes a sensation. Everyone watches, cheers her courage and resolve. Well, not everyone. Something is buried at the corner of the video. Something that means nothing to most viewers but to a few it means lies, deceit, and greed. To Carly’s stepfather, it means his dark past has come calling. What follows is a convoluted story that will keep you on edge until the end.

The Hidden Things by Jamie Mason. While well written and an interesting premise, I just couldn't relate to the characters. Ms. Mason fans will be sure to enjoy the book,

Jamie Mason has become a must-buy author for me. Very clever plot set ups and twists. Always original and surprising. I was immediately sucked into this novel with the opening scene. Another hit.

Fourteen year old Carly is attacked going into her house. She fights off the attacker and escapes to the neighbors. This was all on video which the police used to catch the attacker. However, the video was out on social media and something was caught on that video that opened up a door to the past and set off several people who were willing to steal or kill to get to it.

This book was a thriller and it was cleverly paced between current events and the past events which brought everyone to this moment in time. I couldn't put it down. I was also intrigued by several of the characters and would not mind seeing them again some time in a future book.

A great read, very original.

I adored Jamie Mason's Three Graves Full and Monday's Lie and so I expected the quirkiness of The Hidden Things.

Fourteen-year-old Carly Liddell is on her way home from school unaware that she has attracted the attention of a predator. Although a reasonably competent kid, the attack and her ability to fend off the attacker initiates some profound changes in Carly.

Her remarkable escape is caught on a security camera, and when Carly watches, she gains a new perception of what she is capable of accomplishing. The event is both traumatic and eye-opening for Carly.

The video helps the police catch Carly's assailant quickly; it also catches the public's attention and the video goes viral. Most people are simply impressed with Carly's ability to incapacitate her assailant and escape, but at least two people who see the video are interested in the painting hanging on the wall--a painting by Flinck that was part of the famous (and very real) Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum heist in 1990.

Mason has the ability to create characters whose predicaments pull you in--and even the bad guys elicit some empathy. Carly, a girl on the cusp of womanhood, must reevaluate what she knows about family, trust, and things that have been hidden in all kinds of ways.

I just wish Jamie Mason would write faster. If you haven't read Three Graves Full and Monday's Lie you are missing something.

Read in June; blog review scheduled for July 26.

This started out as a really interesting novel about a stolen painting that is mistakenly caught on a video of young Carly being randomly attacked at her home after school. As her stepfather is the only one who knows its history, he then becomes frantic as he worries about who will see the video and who will know it's in his possession. But of course, in this day and age anything unusual goes viral almost immediately so those that were involved in the scheme years ago see it and the hunt begins. Many twists but I just got bored for some reason in the middle. The end was satisfying though so I count it as a good read!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced read in exchange for this review. I tried to get into this book. There was a promising plot, but unfortunately, I could not finish. Maybe I will try again in the future. Thank you for the opportunity to try!

A great engaging story. Carly is a character you want to root for, tough, brave, and smart as a whip! I would love to read another book with her featured. With every boom I read of Jamie Mason’s I like her more and more. Definitely a rising star in crime fiction in my opinion!

Considered a hero after a home surveillance video shows 14 year old Carly Lidel fending off an attacker in her own home, the girl has no idea what those images will cost her father and her family. Just barely in frame is a picture of a 400 year old very valuable stolen painting. Now the people who were affected by its theft want revenge and while Carly's father wants to protect her, it's actually the brave young teen who will do that job. A really different take on the thriller phenomenon that I enjoyed
