There is so much packed into this book. It is a quick read -- but I suggest you read it slowly. Sandra's wisdom is spread throughout the entire book!! I found her lessons fascinating and will continue to read her books.

Parts of The Hidden Worlds was good, such as the overall development of an ecological self, but some aspects of the book, their linked dreams and ending, felt disjointed. Overall, I am sure there is a reader for this book, but I would not read it again.

This is one of those books that might be better for a scholastic setting, or perhaps as part of therapy, than as literature. The story is about a boy and his friends, out to help improve society, in this case, water quality. As part of his journey, he becomes ever more aware of himself and more comfortable interpreting his dreams (which are described in detail in interstitial chapters). The boy is well-drawn, with all the insecurities and uncertainties most teenage boys have. The challenge is that the text reads fairly young and the text doesn't sing. That said, I think the subject matter, or rather the sort psychosocial aspects will make this an appealing book for teachers or therapists to assign to older middle schoolers. (There is mild discussion of sexuality).
