This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.

I don’t like to give bad reviews on books but I didn’t enjoy this at all. I don’t feel like anything really happened; it was all quite boring and very slow. It wasn’t the worst book I’ve ever read but it was poor enough to put me off reading another by this author.

Unfortunately not for me, read 20% lots of characters not a lot happening., many thanks for the opportunity.

A rather slow paced book but it was all the better for it. A dark and brooding story that just got better and better. I loved the character of Sara and no matter what she did I loved her. A fantastic story x

Here is a book for domestic thriller lovers, that's set in a small circle of people, on the power of gossip, the tension of living in a small village where people are seemingly friendly but you wouldn't know who really to trust!
The novel follows two women, Sara- who looks after her injured husband and willingly isolated herself from village community and Katie - a young student who walks people's dogs and becomes a source of information about other people and village gossip to Sara! The two develop a friendship whilst strange things happen in the village.
Pros: Atmosphere is brilliant, I loved the way Sara acts and develops as a character, although the start was slow, the pace after you get used to the book is quite nice and once you get hold of the side characters the plot becomes really interesting! And the ending was definitely memorable!!
Cons: The start was a bit slow, until "the thing" happened it felt more like a drama than a thriller
.
Who should read this? I would recommend this book to domestic thriller lovers, also if you like the sound of Desperate Housewives(tv show) with fewer love affairs than this book is for you!

This was a pretty chilling read, which I would give 3-4 stars. Although it did take a bit to actually grab my attention and keep it, once I got hooked I truly enjoyed the creepy atmosphere that really brought some good thrills and chills. Had some twists I didn’t see coming as well!

This was a bit of a slow starter and to be honest I’m not totally sure even now how I feel about the story.

The characters were all well written, and the story flowed okay after the initial slow start, but I just wasn’t drawn into the storyline as much as I’d hoped I would be.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy.

I had a bit of trouble with this book, especially with the character of Mike with his narcissistic personality and his downtrodden wife Sara.
But there was just something about the story that kept me reading....somethings just didn’t add up.

Suffice to say I did end up enjoying the story but I didn’t like any of the characters and I really wasn’t invested in any them. I felt quite claustrophobic and dark reading this and was glad when I finished. The outcome was not unexpected but it did keep me guessing.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy to read

Quite enjoyable book, Sarah is living on her nerves with her husbands verbal abuse, you just want to shout at her to get a grip and tell him to do things for himself. Then finally she meets a friend who’s still at uni, she slowly confides in her, I enjoyed the book, however on a personal level for me, and this as I say my own personal opinion, although enjoyable I did think it was a bit predictable to be honest. It’s that reason only I am marking it down on stars, it was well written good storyline, I just wish it hadn’t been so predictable. Still say a enjoyable read

Well, I enjoyed this book immensely. The concept, the execution, everything was perfectly delivered for maximum impact. It's not one of those fast and ferocious novels but instead, it's subtle, dark and brooding with a distinct menacing undertone and a slow build-up of tension. It's well written and intelligently plotted, so much so that I simply couldn't stop reading. The evocative descriptions of the challenges pertaining to family life and the rural small-town community where everyone knows everyone else business made this a pleasure to pick up. The intricate detail and acute observations that feature throughout creates a special atmosphere and you never knew exactly where it was heading.

The narrative is sprinkled with sardonic humour that is welcome especially as it becomes more chilling and disturbing and we see the facades crumbling to reveal peoples true nature. The characters are each memorable in their own way. This is a refreshingly original domestic/family drama, and Kavanagh grabs your attention from the very beginning and holds it throughout. It also highlights the lengths someone will go to in order to protect their family unit. Essentially, it turns out to be a meditation on the topics of obsession, possessiveness and manipulation and a warning about the dangerous nature of gossip and assumption.

Many thanks to Hodder & Stoughton for an ARC.

This was an OK read for me. It didn't quite grab me as I'd hoped but was still worth a read. Would maybe try another by this author.

I was very impressed at how quickly this novel drew me in, I started reading it then before I knew it I was done and nodding my head in appreciation at the execution of it.

At first glance this is a slow burner of a domestic drama as we follow the day to day life of Sara, living in a small community but keeping herself separate from it as she deals with a husband in pain and angry about it, looks after her more challenging son and tries to keep things peaceful. She meets Katie, dog walker and college student and before she knows it she becomes enmeshed in village life.

Disturbance is a quietly observant and clever novel, the further into it you get the more it starts to intrigue. The author captures the gossip and nosiness of a small community perfectly, with little intricate details and often ironic humour, placing her main protagonist right at the centre of it. Then slowly she starts to reveal a darker side, a truth that rises to the surface in small, seemingly insignificant events and actions, until you see clearly what has been right in front of you all along.

This isn’t a book with a twist you won’t see coming this is a book where you will be unsure whether it will or not, it is an intelligent plot with memorable characters and a real emotional feel to it. I loved every minute of it. Nice to be challenged in a different way and I’ll probably read it again with hindsight.

Recommend.

In Marianne Kavanagh's Disturbance nothing is quite what it seems. Violence lurks beneath the apparently tranquil surface of English village life, friendship shades into possessiveness, and the past gets rearranged to fit the demands of the present

It's a carefully crafted story. The reader suspects that someone is not telling the truth, but it takes a while before it becomes clear who is fooling whom. The picture only emerges bit by bit, like the slow dripping of a wound. The result is a chilling study of an obsessive and manipulative individual.

But its the voices that makes this novel so effective – floating above the brittle normality of middle class life, passing on rumours, testing assumptions, drawing conclusions, but never quite understanding the full horror of the destructive force that has buried itself like a parasite within the community.

This book was quite a good read.. it was a bit slow towards the middle and then picked up a bit at the end. The relationship between Katie and sara was rather strange, but the story itself was rather interesting at times with a few twists and turns. I didn’t like the characters that much. I would recommend it to people with interest on that genre so that they can make their own mind up about it
Thank you netgalley for the opportunity to read this

The first part of the book which was setting the scene for the twists and turns. I seen what was coming it wasn't a action pack book but the story was good and it made a chance from a different point of view.
I would recommend this book it was a good weekend read.

Thank you NetGalley Marianne Kavanagh for giving the chance to read this for a honest review.

The plot does have some twists and turns.
And you are unsure in which direction the story is going.
But unfortunately this book for me didn't have the WOW factor me.

Thank you netgalley, Marianne Kavanagh, Holder and Stoughton for allowing me to read and review this book

I wasn't sure what to make of this book,I kept thinking there were going to be some twists and turns that I hadn't seen coming. The first part of the book seems to be a pretty straightforward tale the scene is set well and I could picture the sort of life the main character was leading. Then the story started to really unfold.I did have an inkling but no real idea of what was happening,no spoilers ,you have to read it for yourself, and it is worth a read. Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for an ARC.

I received an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review

This one meanders quite a bit and never quite satisfies. The protagonists are likable and you believe in their relationship, but the plot never gets off the ground 100%, and finishing the book just feels like an exercise
