You Must Not Miss is a strange, bizarre tale of revenge that won't be for everyone. It is odd, creepy, and unsettling, but you can't look away. I flew through it, and while I'm not entirely sure I "got it," the "what the heck" factor of just about everything that happened made it worth the read. It is definitely a unique story that will appeal to readers who like unusual or weird novels.

This is a great book for those of us who have always wanted to run off to our own alternative world. I loved the characters and was interested in finding out what would happen to them. I was a bit disappointed in the ending. I would have liked Magpie to make a different choice. I would like to find out what happens to the rest of the characters.

I received a digital copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.

This had lots of heavy topics covered but I think it would have been better suited to focus on one or two. The genre of magical realism is also something I have never been a fan of, although I keep trying. While this had a lot of emotional depth I could not find myself totally invested, even given the topics. For others, I really see this story speaking to them as it is not a bad book just not to my taste.

This was a deep, dark, creepy, YA magical realism story that reminded me for some reason of a horror version of A Wrinkle In Time..I honestly can't tell you why. The plots are nothing alike, but there was just something about this book that made me feel a connection between the two.
Another book I felt You Must Not Miss resembled (in much more obvious ways) was Neverworld Wake, and I think that if you enjoyed Neverworld Wake you will enjoy this one too.
I did like this, and I would recommend it, but I don't think this kind of story will be for everyone.
I left it feeling a bit unsettled, and I find it to be a very odd little book. However it still worked for me in some strange way, and I believe it's worth a try if it sounds like something you are interested in.
I am definitely looking forward to trying more work by this author.

This book was received as an ARC from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

While reading this book, I could not help but think what a wonderful message the theme of this book is. You Must Not Miss focuses on Magpie whose family has fallen apart from drinking, drug use, scandals and abuse she and all of her family went through. Since then, she has been dealing with being called a slut through school and people threatening her concerning all of these situations happening with her family. Now fending on her own, Magpie must find a way to cope with all of these and be a strong person like she was always meant to be. She finds her happy place in her backyard where she writes and even plots her revenge on those that wronged her. Teens of all ages will benefit from reading this book and I wish there was a book like this when I was in high school to tell me how important it is to stay true to yourself even when everyone is against you.

We will consider adding this title to our YFiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

I was disappointed in this book. It dragged and dragged and the tone of the novel was boring. I barely managed to fnish it.

I deeply enjoyed this strange, dark whimsical book. Magpie has a tough life - and alcoholic mother, a cheating father, an out of touch sister, and now an ex-best friend who ruined her high school social standing. She's alone, struggling to survive, and falling behind on her school work.

Ever since the bad things started, she's been writing in a notebook. She's been inventing a universe called Near, with a long list of bad things that can't happen. In Near she'll never be cold, people will never be mean to her, and her family will be happy again. One day, she discovers a portal in her backyard that leads her to Near. And she is in control.

The story includes many high school scenes, home scenes, and magical Near scenes. There is a diverse cast of characters: a trans love interest, a bisexual friend, an addict, and many social outcasts for various reasons.

I read this book very quickly because I enjoyed the writing style and wanted to know how it ended. I do wish that all of the characters had been more deeply developed. Especially the main character Magpie and her magical partner Hither. I suspect that Hither's character was written to be wishy-washy on purpose, but it got a little old after a while. I did love the descriptions of his different, strange forms, as they challenged my imaginations. I would have liked more of those.

I found the ending bizarre, but the whole book was unusual, so maybe that's okay.

Lots of similarities to Meg Wolitzer's Belzhar, which I also really enjoyed.

I enjoyed Ms. Let's "Everything All At Once", so I was definitely interested in reading "You Must Not Miss". This was a really good novel. I loved Magpie and she's a great Antiheroine.
