WOW. This is my first experience of reading Angela Marsons and the Kim Stone series but it won't be my last. I was hooked straightaway a brilliant crime series. I am now going to read all these series in order. Fantastic.

Seriously? I don't think Angela Marsons can write a bad book about Kim Stone. In the 10th investigation featuring Stone, we get more personal than ever. Someone is recreating traumatic events from Kim's past. Which in turn makes Kim not only having to solve several murders, but needs to confront memories that has long since been buried. I like getting into these stories. Not only are the investigations interesting, but the characters are becoming like old friends. Its hard to get bored because the stories are so fast-paced. Another great installment!

This series has been a huge rollercoaster road but one I’ve absolutely loved! Another fabulous novel by Angela Marsons. Full of gritty crime and characters I’ve come to love and want to follow. Kim Stone being my favourite!

I have read the 9 books leading up to Dead Memories and once again found the plot fabulous - so much so I plan to re-read all 10 again.
Angela Marsons never disappoints with believable characterisation, story line, and an eye for detail.
Well researched and detailed Dead Memories has again taught me a little more about police procedure and forensics, as well as psychology and people generally.
This could stand alone as a book but if read as such it should be with a warning that the reader will be addicted from the onset to Kim Stone series, and will want to read all written before and since....

This is the very first Kim Stone crime thriller I have ever read. I am so annoyed with myself for not picking up the others sooner because there are definite links to the past in this novel. A slow starter, but the pace picks up if you keep with it and the tension builds to an immense climax. The characters are well rounded, a great mix of those you will love & hate. Overall a cunning and sly story that will have you rushing to the last pages.

Definitely a page-turner. I hadn't read the other books by this author but I was able to get into it quickly. The world building and descriptive nature of the book is something else. A fantastic writing style and definitely an author I would check out again.

This is the tenth book in the DI Kim Stone series, and it was only after reading and reviewing the eleventh book (which is due out on 11th July 2019) that I realised I hadn’t shared my review for this one – so I am correcting that now!

I thought that this book was quite hard hitting and it is a darker book that some of the others in the series, and boy at times did I feel sorry for DI Stone, this book features on crimes that are linked to her past in one way or another, and the person responsible is hell bent on getting their revenge (no spoilers as it is all in the blurb for the book). The author does a brilliant job with adding a twist at the end that throws everything off and it is not who you think is responsible, I loved that she kept me on my toes!

The book is very well written, it has a great flow to it and the characters are great, so well developed and well grounded, they are a realistic team and I have loved getting to know them, and Alison Lowe who is a welcome addition for this instalment and she helps make it a gripping story line.

This is definitely one of my favourite crime series available and I love picking up each new release – it is no hesitation in giving this one 5 stars, it is another brilliant addition to the series and looking forward to reading more in the series!! Very highly recommended!!

OH WOW!! Had me utterly gripped from the beginning and parts of it brought tears to my eyes. I have read all of the Kim Stone books and probably state that each one is better than the previous but it really is true with this one. Without doubt this is my favourite in the series (so far).

Cannot believe that this is book 10! Yet again Angela Marsons gives a brilliant read in the Kim Stone series and, for me, ‘Dead Memories’ is the best so far. Some recommend reading as a stand-alone but I like the fact that I have built a picture of Kim and her colleagues and this has grown from book to book and so recommend reading the others first.

Two teenagers are found handcuffed to a radiator on the fourth floor of the Chaucer House Building. The boy is dead and the girl is still alive which is almost a carbon copy of Kim and her brother some thirty years previous. Another ghastly murder follows which indicates without doubt that there is a killer imitating all of Kim’s worst events from her life.

However, the killer knows more than was revealed in the press and Kim and her team know that it is a race against time before the attack will be on Kim herself as the final deed.

As she fights to be allowed to stay on the case Kim has to work with Alison, a profiler, who is monitoring how Kim is coping with the events. I really warmed to Alison and enjoyed her comments and input.

Angela Marsons keeps you gripped to the page & the action does not seem to slow until you finish the last page. I am already looking forward to Book 11 & am I the only one who hopes we haven't seen the last of Alison & the rather eccentric Dr A?

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Angela Marsons for the ARC in return for my honest review.

Brilliant, as always and highly recommended.

This is another gripping Kim Stone book from Angela Marsons. The killings within are brutal and doubly cruel for Kim. The nature of this case means we get to see the culprits from some of Kim's earlier cases so you should only read this book if you have read the preceding 9!

Not only does this book recount some of Kim's greatest successes as a detective, it also uncovers even more about her backstory. Just when you think you know everything she has been through, sadly there is more to learn.

The investigation here is compelling and there are some surprising revelations to be found. I still enjoy seeing the team's interactions and I am already looking forward to book 11!

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC of Dead Memories.

OMG, Detective Kim Stone is my absolute favorite character, ever! Completely damaged and flawed, yet fighting to stay in control and solve the case, which becomes increasingly personal to her. Could not put this down, Fantastic. Am now waiting on tenterhooks for the next installment!

The latest instalment In the DI Kim Stone series is yet another brilliantly readable novel from the awesome Angela Marsons and one that delves deeply into Kim’s troubled childhood. When Kim and Bryant are called to an upsetting crime scene what they see is made even more disturbing by the many similarities to a devastating event from her past.

As the case progresses it becomes glaringly clear that someone very sick and extremely dangerous is out to cause Kim as much horror and distress as possible and that their ultimate aim is her total demise. With her loyal team behind her, Kim must get to the root of the case before it gets to her.

Written with Marsons’ usual unflinching directness and razor sharp wit this book is so easily digestible despite some of its gruesome content. I always think she has a fantastic gift of tackling highly brutal situations but still making everything so easy to read. The banter shared by Kim and her team is always a fabulously lighter backdrop to the darkness taking place in the forefront of the story.

I do recommend you read her books in order if you can, particularly for a full understanding of much of what takes place within Dead Memories. As this series moves on you find out so much more about all her team, not just Kim herself, and references are often made to previous cases so reading the series in order will just maximise your enjoyment of the series as a whole.

Anyway, I think it’s pretty clear that, once more, I thoroughly recommend not just this novel, but the entire series! If you enjoy thrillers and in particular police procedurals, and you get a kick out of engaging with a series of books then seriously – Kim Stone is a must!

My thanks to #Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of #DeadMemories in return for an honest review.

This is the first Kim Stone book I have read. There was enough information in it so I could follow the characters easily without having read the previous nine books. A great suspense novel, It is full of twists and turns and kept me guessing until the end. I highly recommend this book and I will definitely read the other nine.

Once again Angela Marsons has delivered a great story with parallel plot lines that keep the pace and excitement racing along. The character development, as in previous books, is also outstanding. For this reader, however, these important aspects are marred by poor editing, an aspect that gets increasingly worse with each book that is released.

I have to wonder if, prior to publishing, the author has shelved this book and done a re-read with fresh eyes after a period of time. Have any beta readers been through the text and given a genuine opinion? I say surely not, for if this had been done, the many clunky sentences that I had to read several times in order to make sense of them would not have been present, and would not have dragged me from my immersion in the story. Often an author will insert phrases that made sense at the time of writing but do not when read with fresh eyes after a layaway period. On a re-read these instances can be rephrased. That this appears to have not occurred indicates a rush to publication and sloppy editing, which also leads to phrases such as ‘they both excited the car’. Maybe Kim and Bryant did somehow excite the car, but I suspect they exited it. I stumbled over many similar errors.

More irritating than the above, however, was the many occasions with poor signposting, particularly chapters that open with an overuse of gender pronouns (the use of he when there is clearly more than one male present, for example). On occasions this would go on for more than a page before we discover to whom the ‘he’ is referring. Therein, a re-read or revision of the passage is then required in order to put the just read page into context. If the reader does not know whose headspace they are in, they can’t read from the perspective of the character, and are dragged out of the world of fiction.

Will I read the next Kim Stone book?

Absolutely. The stories lines are brilliant, this visit into Kim’s past in book ten especially so. The character development is right up there with the best, and the pacing is superb. I just wish more time would be spent polishing these stories to the sparkle such gems deserve.

O my word, this is already book 10 in the series, and honestly, they just get better and better. DI Stone has to investigate the death of two druggies, but the circumstances are very very close to home, and she has to balance the investigation between her professional self, and her personal feelings. Nobody can know, but they have to in order to catch the criminal.... I can't wait for book 11, please!!!

Can you believe we're on to the tenth Kim Stone thriller? I can't. It's been a rollercoaster, with Kim facing many challenges over the years, but perhaps in Dead Memories she is about to face her most challenging one yet ... Facing up to and sharing her past.

Dead Memories is, both poignant and liberating. For DI Kim Stone a truly horrific killer dredging up her most traumatic memories in the form of crime scenes refecting incidents in Kim's past, is not only extremely personal, but torturous.

One of the things I loved most about Dead Memories was the fact that it gives the reader such insight into Kim's character. We'd always known she had a traumatic past, but having the details fleshed out like this, allows us even more insight into her character. The fact that, at first, she is reluctant to share these intimate details with her team made my heart ache for her and prompted a truly visceral hatred for the killer. Her fierce independance, her reluctance to show weakness, her desire to keep her emotions locked up are what makes her the strong, character we all know and love. However, she chooses ultimately to reveal her past to her team and, in my opinion, rather than leaving her vulnerable, it makes her stronger.
For me, Dead Memories symbolises a pivotal moment in the development of Kim Stone as a character and , when I finished reading, I was excited to find out what Angela Marsons will do with Kim next. I feel Dead Memories signifies a subtle change in trajectory for Kim and that is why Marsons is such a successful series writer.

She keeps her characters fresh, re-introducing past characters and allowing them to grow, consolidating existing ones and allowing them to shine ... and it's all done in such a seeminlgy effortless way.
Her plotlines are tight, her action scenes breathtaking (OMG that last action scene - still in awe of it) and her characerisation is nuanced.

I came away from Dead Memoires feeling like I knew the characters better ... that's some achievemnet in a tenth book. Hat's off - this was a cracking read!
