Dead Memories is the 10th book in the D.I. Kim Stone series. I highly recommend reading the previous books before reading this one because there will be references to past cases. There is a lot going on in this book. But with Marsons' great writing and story-telling, you won't feel lost and confused. You would think by the 10th book you would know all about DI Stone but surprises keeps coming.

This is one of my favorite series. All her books are fast-paced with gripping plots. I highly recommend this whole series. Can't wait for the next one.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy of Angela Marsons' "Dead Memories" in exchange of an honest review.

This is book 10 in the series and once again this book didn’t disappoint.
Can’t wait to read the next book in the series

This (book 10) was the first I've read from this author. First off, I didn't feel like I needed to have read the previous 9 just to know what was going on. Even though the story was all about Detective Stone's previous cases / life. The previous cases may or may not have been covered in previous books, but the background here was enough that I didn't feel I was missing out on a lot of back story.
The story was well written and I am happy that I have 9+ stories to read that I will enjoye.

Another 10/10 exciting book from one of my favourite author’s.
Angela Marsons never, ever disappoints me and book 10 in this fantastic Kim Stone series is no exception.

When a very young, homeless and drug addicted couple’s bodies are discovered, cuffed to a radiator, memories from Kim’s own tragic past come back to haunt her and the case quickly becomes very personal as Kim realises that someone out there despises her enough to murder innocent victims.... just to make her suffer and relive her past.

Brilliant plot with amazing characters and very pleased to have read more about the profiler Alison Lowe who has featured before.

If you are a fan of ongoing police procedurals and have yet to read the Kim Stone series, do yourself a favour and start with book one now.... you won’t be sorry.

***** What can I say, absolutely loved this book. Cannot wait for the next one. This series is one of my overall favourites!! A must read for everyone 📚

This was a dark, intense and gripping story and for me it is the best of the series so far.
This one definitely should be not read before the previous books, it will just spoil most of them.

The plot is quite simple in fact. Someone hates D.I Kim Stone so much, that he just committed crimes recreating every traumatic event of her life. The difficult part of it was narrowing down the number of the people who hates her that much.
For a story based on the saddest moments of Kim's life, there was really a kind of dark Humor that alleviated a bit the misery of those moments. Another part i found really interesting was the side investigation conducted by the profiler Allison Lowe, and i didn't even see that small twist coming. I found it offered a sort of relief between extremely intense moments in the main investigation.
Needless to say that i was surprised by the end and it was not who i expected to be committing all these horrible crimes.
I loved reading it, and the way these personal crimes brought the team even closer was nice to see.

Wow! This latest installment of the Kim Stone series had me enthralled. It was nerve wracking and intense. So, many twists and turns, I didn't want the book to end. Each new addition to the series gets more and more intense. Exploring the main character's past in full detail, since we have only seen glimpses in other books was interesting. These books are one of my favorite series, and I count down the days until the next release. Great writing Angela Marsons!

Of all the book series I’ve read, Angela Marsons’ Kim Stone series is by far my favorite. Very few have ranked so high that I immediately buy the book, sight unseen and without a clue as to what the book is about. This is the TENTH book and dare I say possibly the best book yet? Yes…I dare.

Angela Marsons has a gift for writing. From the minute I open one of her books, it is hook, line, and sinker until the very last page. In fact, I find myself thinking of the book throughout the day, anticipating what I’ll encounter. Her chapters are always on the short side, a feature of her writing I enjoy. She has a tendency to add little cliff-hangers at the end of chapters (ARGH!), but I know I can whip through the next one to see what happens (even though there most likely is another cliff-hanger). This actually makes reading her books fun and very enjoyable. Seriously, anyone that can keep the storyline going as strong as it is for TEN books is simply AMAZING!

What else can I say about Dead Memories without giving away any spoilers? As the synopsis says, someone Kim has angered is re-enacting past traumatic events in her life. Will Kim finally break down and show some emotion? Or, is she going to live up to her last name and keep a stone face with stone emotions? There is a traumatic event revealed that gives even more insight to her flawed childhood. But she will not let you feel sorry for her. Don’t even try to give her a hug and tell her it’s going to be okay because for Kim Stone it WILL be okay. She will fight her way through, lean on her team as much as her stubbornness allows, and at the end will be as strong as ever…..or will she?? As if the team hasn’t been through enough, they are pushed to the limits to unravel her past with limited information while also trying to decipher the clues of the current crimes. And to top it off, profiler Alison is brought in to keep tabs on Stone. This is one whirlwind of a story that kept me on the edge of my seat!

Because Dead Memories deals with Kim’s past, it is imperative that books 1-9 be read first. It may seem like a lot, but they will go by fast. And, it is so worth it!! If I had to rate this book on a scale of 1-5, it would be a solid 10! Well done, Ms. Marsons….well done!

EXCERPT: 'You know who I have and you know who I want. Come alone or she dies. You know where I am. '

Enough people had died this week because of one person's vendetta against her. She couldn’t risk one more person getting hurt.

And the person who had sent the text message was right.

She did know where (they) would be.

ABOUT THIS BOOK: ‘Someone is recreating every traumatic point in your life. They are doing this to make you suffer, to make you hurt and the only possible end game can be death. Your death.’

On the fourth floor of Chaucer House, two teenagers are found chained to a radiator. The boy is dead but the girl is alive. For Detective Kim Stone every detail of the scene mirrors her own terrifying experience with her brother Mikey, when they lived in the same tower block thirty years ago.

When the bodies of a middle-aged couple are discovered in a burnt-out car, Kim can’t ignore the chilling similarity to the deaths of Erica and Keith – the only loving parents Kim had ever known.

Faced with a killer who is recreating traumatic events from her past, Kim must face the brutal truth that someone wants to hurt her in the worst way possible. Desperate to stay on the case, she is forced to work with profiler Alison Lowe who has been called in to observe and monitor Kim’s behaviour.

Kim has spent years catching dangerous criminals and protecting the innocent. But with a killer firmly fixed on destroying Kim, can she solve this complex case and save her own life or will she become the final victim?

MY THOUGHTS: Early on, as I was reading Dead Memories, I had the random thought that reading it was rather like being a rubik's cube, with Angela Marsons twisting the reader this way and that. Then lo and behold. . . but I can't tell you, because that would spoil it.

I don't know how Marsons does it, but by the tenth book, I could understand (not like, but understand) if the series were to go slightly off the boil or become a little formulaic. But no, that definitely doesn't happen. The pace is on, the suspense high.

In Dead Memories we revisit some previous cases and villains we have met before as the killer recreates traumatic events from Kim’s past. In order to catch the villian, Kim has to examine both her personal past and cases she has worked, because someone hates her enough to want to torture her, then kill her. The list of suspects is not short.

I don't even try to guess the perpetrators in this series. I am perfectly happy just to go along for the ride.

The author wrote a thriller that started with a bang and just kept going! The twists kept coming, so I couldn't put it down. I cannot wait to read more from this author!

This book drew me in and held me delightfully-captive from beginning to end. The palpable tension held me in thrall. The plot kept me guessing. The characters were realistic, likable and identifiable. And, every settings was described in such a way as to make me feel like I was an actual bystander in that scene. Once I started reading this story, I knew this was a book I wasn’t going to be able to put down!

WOW, WOW, WOW! every Kim Stone book just gets better and better and even though the dynamics of the team has now changed, it still works brilliantly.

Someone is mirroring Kim’s traumatic life, by killing unsuspecting victims in the same way and the same place as the people that Kim actually loved and cared about i.e. her brother Mikey and her foster parents. Will Kim be next?

As always, the story does not stand still and I never had time to catch my breath before the next punch came my way. Angela delved very deeply into Kim’s childhood in this book and time and again I was left stunned with what she had been through.

This is a fantastic series and each time I think there is no way Angela can top the last book and every time I am wrong. Thank you, Angela, for bringing Kim Stone into my life. I cannot promise I will wait patiently for book 11 - so please, please hurry up and write it.

As I have said before…………..why is there not an option on these books to turn them into a TV Series?

The plot centres around Kim's past with plenty twists and turns to interest the reader. This is a fast paced and gripping book which will keep you hooked until the last page. Angela Marsons is incredible. This was the 10th book in her Kim Stone series but it feels as fresh, energized and exciting as if it was the second or third. Reading her stories are always such a highlight. They are so well written and knows how to mix unexpected twists and real character development. Just amazing.

This is Book number 10 in this series featuring Detective Kim Stone and her brilliant team. It can be read as a standalone but as it features a lot of Kim’s past it is best enjoyed if you have followed this brilliant series. In this book Kim faces one of the toughest cases of her career as she is personally targeted by someone who knows all about her childhood and her past and is determined to wreak vengeance by recreating traumatic events from KIm’s past..
This is a fast paced and cleverly written plot. Brilliant characters and plenty of action and suspense, Angela Marsons at her best. If you haven’t yet read this series then why not? Each book gets better and better and I can’t wait for Book number 11. A highly recommended series of books.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

What an emotional roller coaster. I was so glad to get an ARC of this book. This is one of my favorite series. I love the characters, I love the storylines, I love the emotion.

Kim has definitely made herself some enemies over the years, but who did she make angry enough that they’re recreating past events? I was on the edge of my seat, and when I thought I had it figured out, another twist was thrown in.

Highly, highly recommend this series.

I’ve said it before and it looks like I’ll be saying it until this series ceases to exist (which quite frankly I hope is absolutely never!) : this series just keeps going from strength to strength! Now, that is obviously fantastic if you’re Angela, her publisher or a reader. Not so good for me when I put on my reviewer cap because …. words, you guys! I ran out of ways to say how awesome the Kim Stone series is at least five or so books ago! How many times can I say “brilliant, fantastic, READ THIS NOW!” without boring you all to tears?!

If you’ve been following this series (and if you haven’t, you can’t possibly imagine how hard I am judging you right now!), you’ll know that Kim Stone has pissed off quite a lot of people along the way. Some we don’t even know about. She’s just that kind of person and we love her for it. At some point, someone was bound to be out for revenge and that time has come. Eek!

You’ll also know that Kim hasn’t had an easy childhood and what do you know? Someone has decided to use all that heartache against her by recreating some of the most devastating events Kim has had to deal with in her life. It all starts with the death of two young addicts. They are found chained to a radiator in the building Kim grew up in. The boy is dead, the girl is barely alive and that is how this scene is horribly reminiscent of Kim’s own experience alongside her brother, Mickey. But whomever is behind this horrendous reenactment isn’t finished yet. There’s more to come. My lips are sealed, however. Prepare yourself though, as old and new wounds will be poked at and it will hurt. *blows nose*

From the very beginning, I found myself with that sickening feeling in my stomach that things were only going to get worse. Kim holds a very special place in my heart after all this time, so to see her having to go through this was quite painful. Her pain was my pain. How do you keep the lid on, keep your emotions in check, when the worst of the worst that has happened to you is being rubbed in your face? I can’t even begin to describe the range of emotions I went through myself. I felt angry and sad, I gasped, I felt like punching someone, I even had a wee sob. I am SO not the sobbing kind of person! I even felt sympathy for characters who may or may not deserve it. But more than anything, this dreadful trip down Memory Lane has only made me love Kim Stone even more.

And as if all that wasn’t enough, there is another thread in this storyline when consultant Angela returns. She is supposed to keep an eye on Kim, make sure she’s dealing with things and needs to report back to Kim’s boss. But Angela also has other things on her mind when she isn’t convinced that a case she consulted on previously reached the right conclusion. Angela is one of those characters I wasn’t quite sure about but she really grew on me and her sheer determination was definitely something to be admired.

And then there’s Kim’s team. Stacey, Penn and Bryant … so much love. Each one gets their own moment to shine and they do it so fabulously. Yes, things have changed and yes, there is one desk that still doesn’t feel quite right but Penn, the one I almost wanted to dislike out of sheer principle, is such a delight and I’m really enjoying getting to know him better. While at first, it was easy to consider him the outsider, the one who shouldn’t be there because things were just fine as they were, thankyouverymuch, now I find it’s as if he’s been there all along. Stacey continues to kick butt in her own fierce way and Bryant is a rock, pure and simple.

Once again, Angela Marsons has left me feeling utterly discombobulated. My mind has been blown into so many pieces, I fear it may never be whole again. I love this series with a fiery passion. This is top-notch crime fiction, as it has been from the very beginning. Always utterly gripping and compelling, always immensely absorbing and addictive, always an absolute treat and I’m dying for more! As long as Angela Marsons keeps writing these, I’ll be at the front of the line and I WILL be using my elbows, people!

In case you think “sheesh, that’s way too much text, I’m so not reading that”, here’s a recap. BUY IT NOW!!!! You can thank me later. You’re welcome.

Kim Stone has put away many a dangerous criminal, now someone is out to get her but where to start looking at potential culprits with so many to choose from. Stone is notoriously private, her personal life, her past, her emotions she keeps close to her chest. Someone is creating the worst moments of Stone's life, murdering people to recreate them but how, why and most importantly what is the end game? The team are on it but Stone isn't willing to give up her personal secrets and finds herself in a cat and mouse situation, holding out on her team, monitored all whilst trying to outrun her personal demons.

Ooft what a stooshie! We know and love her, she is strong, harsh, honest, brutal, brave, loyal and very private. The reader gets more than her colleagues but still we don't know anywhere near as much as we would like, this book lets us in to Kim's past - her worst memories. The killer seems to know everything and putting on a horrific and brutal display each time. It is hard to go into it without spoiling and I don't do spoilers but I think this book really pushes Stone's boundaries. The team are their delightful selves, banter, ribbing and we see the introduction of Betty! If you follow me anywhere online or know me you KNOW I love a Betty, I use it as a term on endearment for everyone and everything so to see her pop up in the book and in such a fab way, utterly delighted. The team dynamics are always fab and Marson's is giving us a fresh angle, a better understanding of what shaped Stone to being who she is. An investigation where the bodies are piling up, a cop is the target and no one knows what is coming next.

I love a series that keeps you hooked, invested in the characters and manages to surprise you and give you more, this series does just that despite being on book ten. 5/5 for me this time, I cannot wait to see what is in store for Kim and the team, hurry up book 11 we are waiting oh so impatiently!

Angela Marsons has the magic combination to the perfect crime fiction book this was absolutely superb. If I could give this more than 5 stars I would, easily my favourite book of 2019 so far. A big fat 5 stars!
