What would you do if you were haunted by your past but were suppressing the emotions. That's exactly what happens in Desd Memories to DI Kim Stone. Her past has really come back to haunt her life as mysteriously there are murders being committed that link back to the horrific life events of one Kim Stone.

Seeing Kim as emotionally charged as this book shows will shock many people. I always thought of Kim as a hot headed lady who was only showing her anger and her ability to get through any situation.

This book shook my confidence in what she could handle. What same person could handle the case when it ties so tightly back to your own life.

I must say the story was super and had such a draw to it. I mean what idiot would want to unsettle Kim who we all know doesn't put up with anything from anyone. It's almost as if they were signing their own death warrant.

A haunted nightmare past comes back to haunt Kim Stone.

A new Kim Stone book is always a cause for joy in this household. I love her, the interaction of the team and the cases. This one is no exception. First, someone has staged a murder to directly mirror Kim’s tragic loss of her twin brother, Mikey. Additional murders mirror other traumatic events from her life. A lot of criminals have reason to hate Kim, but who hates her so much they would kill innocent people just to reenact these events?

There are gruesome scenes here, especially involving the Rubik’s cube. Kim is in serious danger of coming unraveled. This is a highly dramatic mystery and I had no idea who was behind the crimes. The team, including the profiler, Alison who is called in to help, shines. Marsons’ characters just always come across as real.

This is one of those books you just don’t want to put down. Book Ten continues to keep the streak alive. This book requires the prior knowledge gained from having read the earlier books. This is not a series to read out of order.

My Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of this book.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
This a complicated and elaborate plot. I have read the entire series of 10 books featuring DI Kim Stone in order. I wished I could remember more details from the earlier books to better understand what happened in the past in regards to some of the criminals which were featured.

Kim survived a horrendous childhood to become an exceptional investigator and head of a team who respect her despite her quirks and her past lack of interpersonal skills. Some unknown culprit is recreating the most traumatic events from her past; events she has mostly kept from team members. In fact, she has repressed such memories and has disassociated her mind from dwelling on them

There are so many suspects and their family members, some in prison, who are capable of hating her so much for her role in criminal investigations. This was difficult for me to keep all the suspects straight. Two teenagers are found near the place where Kim had experienced horror. They had been drugged and chained to a radiator. Kim, as a child, had been chained to a radiator next to her young brother who died before rescue came. When found, the teenaged boy was already dead and the girl imprisoned next to him later died. Kim was revolted by this crime but wanted to believe the similarity was just a coincidence.

The only peaceful and happy part of Kim’s young life was several years she spent with loving and supportive foster parents. This ended when they were killed in a flaming car crash. Soon this accident was duplicated in a similar crash in the same area, resulting in the death of an innocent middle-aged couple. When profiler Alison Lowe joins the team, Kim concludes that she is there to work on a criminal profile of suspects, but is dismayed to learn that her job is to observe Kim to see how she is handling the stress.

When Alison asks to make a list of people who could hate Kim so much to replicate these early memories, Byron explains that such a list would be much too long, and it is narrowed down to a manageable list of suspects. Alison is also working on a case where a woman was brutally assaulted, and she feels her profile resulted in the wrong man being charged. We find there may be a connection to the other crimes. Also, a body has been found encased in a metal cube at a car demolition yard. Finally, Alison is in mortal danger as the perpetrator chooses her as the victim to copy Kim’s most recent grief and trauma which occurred in Book 8.

Angela Marsons always does an excellent job in developing complex, believable characters. We see team members grow and develop as a skillful, hard-working, dependable family. Though this can be enjoyed as a twisted, complicated mystery and as a stand-alone book, it gives great pleasure to watch the team coalesce and learn more of their backgrounds.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in return for an honest review.

I do love Angela Larson's books featuring DI Kim Stone. Yes, someone as damaged as Stone would be unlikely to function so amazingly when not only have the experiences of her childhood been not really dealt with; but to then have someone play those events out on others. She would surely be a basket case.

A very readable, well paced book.

This author is one of my favourite and I instantly put all other books aside when a new book comes out. This is book ten in the Kim Stone series and to fully understand the characters and their backgrounds, they should be read in order. Being such a long series already, you would assume that the stories contained in them would begin to lack the strength that the first books had. But thankfully that is not the case. The author continues to smash it with her subsequent books and I for one applaud her for her ability to bring books of such a high standard to her loyal fans.

This book has Kim facing her demons in truly horrific fashion. She finds herself tackling a case where the sense of deja vu is hard to ignore. As time goes on, and the case becomes more complex, Kim realises that someone is forcing her to face her long hidden fears once more. She quickly realises where things are going and has to relive a more recent heartbreak even though she is still dealing with the fallout from it.

It is difficult to say quite how much I loved this story without giving too much away, suffice to say these books just keep getting better and better.

Huge thanks to the author, Bookouture and Netgalley for providing a copy. Bring on number eleven!

Dead Memories is Book 10 in the Detective Kim Stone crime series and as all of the other book in the series is totally engrossing and a compelling read.
This time the team of four police officers are aided by Alison Lowe, a profiler and behaviourist and they all become involved in replays of significant events in Kim’s life. As always the storyline is fascinating and engrossing.
Highly recommended.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 stars

Almost 5 stars! I can’t say why it missed out on the 5 as I’d be giving the end away...

However this is another Kim Stone cracking read. I’ve read all the books in the series and while they can be read as stand alone, what you wouldn’t get is the true sense of who Kim is and her relationship with Bryant.

This book was a turning point in the series for me in a way, more character development of Stacey, and I like the introduction of Penn he fits well and also Alison, I hope she stays.

This has a great story that hooks you in, the chapters are short and gripping, you can’t put it down. Highly recommended.

PS note to Ms Marsons - I’m already looking forward to the book where Symes gets out of Prison.....!

It's hard to believe this is already the 10th book in the Kim Stone series when the first was published only 4 years ago. Angela Marsons must be a real powerhouse and somehow she manages to keep each book fresh and tightly written and this one is no exception!

Kim and her team really have their work cut out for them as someone is carrying out heinous crimes that have traumatic connotations for Kim personally. The list of suspects who might hold a grudge against Kim is long and the team have their work cut out trying to narrow it down. The interpersonal relationships between Kim and her team and others working on the crimes are always what make this series so special. Kim is finally letting the kind and patient Bryant know more about her past. Stacey is developing well as a quick and clever investigator and the new guy Penn is settling into the team and playing an important part. Although Kim has trouble at first playing nice with Allison, the profiler sent to help them out, she eventually comes to develop a rapport with her after she shows Kim her worth.

I hope Ms Marsons has plenty more ideas up her sleeve for future episodes in this brilliant series. I for one can't wait to see what happens next!

I feel super lucky to have received an ARC copy of the incredible new Kim Stone book, Dead Memories, by Angela Marsons this week.

It’s available for preorder NOW on Amazon – with a release date of 22nd February 2019. (Not long to wait!)

Dead Memories by Angela Marsons

Genre: Fiction/Crime Fiction/Crime, Thriller & Mystery

BUG Rating: 5/5

Overall: Utterly gripping – The storyline follows Kim’s past being dug up and laid out publicly for all to see. Memories she’s been determined to keep well buried even from herself. Who even managed to find out all her secrets? Traumatic events from Kim’s past are being reenacted by a mastermind killer, who is determined to make her relive and suffer the horrendous ordeals from her past to ultimately destroy her. Will Kim be able to keep it all together? Can she face her past in order to stop more brutal killings? The team are in a race against time to find the killer. This is another amazing book by Angela Marsons. If you are new to the Kim Stone series, you should definitely start from the beginning, especially as this book really brings back to life a lot of past cases and villains. It’s pretty essential to understand the back story. The storyline is brutal, gruesome, and brilliant, everything you expect to see in an Angela Marsons book. The book kept me gasping, guessing and jumping throughout. If it’s not already on it, you must add this to your TBR list!

We’ve been craving more and boy did we get it .. Angela Marsons’ latest DI Kim Stone book, Dead Memories, (#10) did not disappoint!

The book had it all, from seriously gruesome scenes and twists and turns at every opportunity, some red herrings thrown in and of course some seriously amazing characters. Throughout the course of the book I was constantly left guessing, from the huge line up of suspects, who the real killer/mastermind was.

The first crime scene in this story starts were it all began for Kim. The scene where her horrific childhood was first exposed, in the very same block of flats where she was rescued from being chained to a radiator along side her twin brother who did not make it through their horrendous ordeal and died in her arms. How chilling would it be to enter the crime scene and be taken back 30 years, with the same sight right in front of you?

Kim is obviously convinced this is just a coincidence, in her attempt to keep the her past well and truly buried … until the killer strikes again and the next crime reenacts another traumatic event from her past. Will she now be forced to reveal all to her team to enable them to catch the killer?

Kim Stone’s life is literally laid bare in this book for all to see. She tried so hard to keep her past hidden and buried deep inside and now she has to face it, publicly, in front of her closest friends/colleagues. I LOVED IT.

As the team try to identify the mastermind behind the crimes, they realise it has to be someone who really, really hates Kim (there’s a long list!) – which sees the return of many of her darkest, horrifying past cases and villains as they try to identify who it could be. The team are joined by profiler, Alison Lowe, who aides them to examine the evidence/profiles to determine who from the ‘who hate’s Kim list’ could be able to act out such acts of revenge! I have actually come to appreciate Alison, and even like her this book. Alison is a fresh addition to the book (although having appeared in a previous case). She brings both tension and humour to the team. Alison is also trying to solve an old case from her previous assignment, which she ultimately gets help with from Stacey. I love the second case story in this too. I do hope there is room for Alison in a future instalment – I’d love to get to know her better and see how hers and Kim’s relationship evolves.

Whilst talking about the characters, as usual, the bond between Kim and Bryant is ever present. I appreciate how Angela manages, despite the gruesome and brutal storyline, to bring in some humour. I absolutely love the duo’s dynamics and grateful to see more of it in each book. As I said in my previous review of book number 9, I feel totally invested in the characters. I feel like I have really become to know them over the books and truly believe this is what makes me keep coming back for more!

I won’t give anymore of the plot away, but to say this series gets better and better is an understatement. There’s one small criticism … but i couldn’t bring myself to downgrading my rating at all. I’ve read so many books over the last year, and sometimes it’s difficult to remember all the finer details – as the team focused on specific past killers, it would have been good to have a quick refresher of the crimes/storyline – I found myself a couple of times having to refer back to notes/highlights from the past books to try and refresh my memory.

That said, this book is still completely outstanding, full of great plots, and lots of twists and turns. I could literally feel my heart racing as I turned each page. It was definitely one of those books I couldn’t put down and I finished it in a record two nights!

Excellent work, as usual Angela, and I hope there will be another instalment in the very near future.

I received a free advanced copy of this book from NetGalley / Bookouture in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. All opinions are my own.

At last fans of the excellent Detective Kim Stone crime novels have a brand new story to read. This is the tenth book in the series and in my opinion the very best of them all.
When Kim and her trusty team are given their latest case, Kim is chilled to the bone to be returning to her once childhood home. There at Chaucer House, just three floors away from where she once lived, is one dead boy chained to the radiator and his girlfriend who is fading fast, is beside him and also chained up. The whole scenario is identical to her own shockingly appalling experience, when her brother Mikey died and she lived on, haunted by the events of over thirty years ago. Someone has replicated that very scene.
Could this be a coincidence or was it a menacing message just for her? The writing is on the wall in the command headquarters. Kim is desperate to lead the case and doesn’t want anyone to know about her horrendous past. She wants to be treated like everyone else. She has worked her way up and doesn’t want to be defined by her past. Only Woody and Bryant have ever been party to some of her secrets. She doesn’t want to be pitied. She embraces this opportunity, but when a second crime recreates another traumatic event in her life, losing her devoted foster parents Keith and Erica who were mercilessly killed, she knows someone is after her, playing mind games and out to destroy her. She is a wizard at solving mysteries but will she have the strength, determination and tenacity to track down an unknown adversary? She knows her life depends upon it.
Woody, her boss, allows her to continue at the helm of the investigation, but he assigns profiler Alison Lowe to the case to join her team and also to report directly back to him how Kim is coping and managing the investigation. She is a highly valued case-solver and he certainly doesn’t want her damaged or in the very worst case scenario, cold-bloodedly hunted down. Kim is forced to accept this decision and so Alison joins Kim, Bryant, Stacey and Penn, her stalwart investigative team whose specialities complement each others with talents to spare, adding her own speciality to the team.
This is a tightly plotted, chilling crime thriller. The storytelling is mesmerising, action packed and full of red herrings, blind alleyways and thrills and spills. It is a cleverly managed page-turner, short sharp chapters crammed with excitement and a mysterious, blood-thirsty perpetrator who plants false clues to keep Kim and her team one step behind, working late into the night in order to halt the heinous, evil killer before the master card can be played. I loved literally everything about the novel which was well fuelled with jealousy, vengeance and blind hatred. I especially loved discovering more about the personality traits of Kim and her team, as well as meeting an entire cast of brand new, beautifully crafted and expertly developed characters. The story is centred in and around ‘the black country’, not too far away from my hometown so I enjoyed being able to visualise familiar places and loved Kim’s descriptions of the local area. This story ticked all of my boxes.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from publisher Bookouture through my membership of NetGalley. Thank you most sincerely for ‘Dead Memories’, sent in return for an honest and unbiased review. I thought it was a tremendously enjoyable and engrossing novel and I am certainly going to be recommending it most highly to my friends, family and followers.

Dead Memories is the latest Kim Stone story by Angela Marsons. Dead Memories is easily a stand alone book, but it does give away some "who done it" from previous books. I highly recommend starting with number one, Silent Scream. I love this series, just wish Ms Marsons wrote faster! I was given an early copy to review.

I to say, this is the best one yet. It is fast paced and all the time builds to the crescendo at the end. For once, I didn’t see that coming.

Poor Kim, her life has been tragic, losing her brother and then her foster parents, and she’s managed to keep it all together by compartmentalising the events, all for it to re-appear by people being killed in exactly the same way. Who wants her dead and why.

As the body count increases, a suspect is found, but Kim isn’t too sure it’s the right person. She is racing against time to find the real killer. My heart was in my mouth!!

Her team are fantastic and I just love Stace, Penn and Bryant they make everything come together.

My thanks to the author, Angela and Netgalley for the ARC. Can’t wait for the next one.

The D.I. Kim Stone series is one that never disappoints. The author manages to deliver book, after brilliant book, of hours of thrilling reading entertainment.

Poor Kim never seems to get very far from her past. She is a complicated character with a fascinating background and I felt bad that I took delight in it being brought very much back to light again. I love knowing what makes people tick and these new batch of murders lets the reader yet again see Kim whilst she is quite fragile. Something she doesn’t like anyone to see.

This was such a twisted read of which I had no clue in which direction the author was steering me. Some very clever red herrings that had me second guessing the why’s and who. I have to say Bryant is character I am really getting to enjoy. Kim may not be so keen but their working relationship pushes the story up a few notches for me.

Dead Memories, yet again gets all the stars from me. It kept me guessing and am sure I could feel my heart racing the further into the story I went. At times it is one I wish I could read with my eyes closed as the author always delivers heart stopping moments that have me rushing to turn the next page to what will happen next. A mahoosive 5 stars!

Fantastic read! When is book 11 released?!
I’m always champing at the bit for my next fix of Kim Stone and her team. Dead Memories, book 10 of the series, was even more gritty and profound than the last. It will not disappoint and keep you hooked until the end. Kim is her usual stubborn self with her dry sense of humour, even through difficult and heart wrenching circumstances. As always her team support her to the max, are incredibly understanding and put up with her unconventional ways. I sometimes wish she would soften slightly. Maybe she will after some of the malicious acts aimed at her personally in this book left her with no choice but to admit to some of her scars from the past.
I love the grittiness mixed in with the smart one liners and dry sense of humour throughout.
Angela Marsons is top of this category in my opinion.

I absolutely loved this latest instalment in the Kim Stone series. It was brutal, gritty and heartbreaking. The story line is captivating, full of twists and surprises. I love how we get to delve into Kim’s awful history more and also get to revisit so many characters we’ve met in previous books. I’ve read plenty of crime books and it’s very rare I’m truly surprised by an ending, but I can honestly say I didn’t see it coming. I loved how it finished and can not wait for more. Love this series!

Thanks Netgalley, Angela Marsons & Bookouture!

Dead Memories is the 10th book in the D.I. Kim Stone series. I have read and loved them all and this one doesn’t disappoint. If you haven’t read the series, you do not know what you are missing.
When a couple are found chained to a radiator. The male dead and the woman barely alive, found in a flat a few floors away. Where years previously D I Kim Stone was found also tied to a radiator when she was six years’ old. When more incidents happen, DI Kim Stone realises the similarities between these horrific events and the ones in her own life. Someone wants to hurt her and make her relive the horrific events in her life. They are out to get her.
I am not going to give anymore of the plot away. But to say Angela Marsons has done another cracking instalment of this series. This series seems to get better and better. The quality of the storyline and her writing is always of high quality. It has great plot lines, heart stopping moments and lots of twists and turns. I also love the camaraderie between the team, especially between Stone and Bryant. What more can you want?
Yet again, thank you so much Bookouture and NetGalley for a copy of this book

the last page. Guessing and second-guessing all the way! My heart was pounding by the time I'd finished this one! My dog wasn't too happy either as he had to wait for his walk! Well, who the hell can put down a book with 30mins to go!

I remember the very first time I came across a new author Angela Marsons and her debut Kim Stone novel Silent Scream

I knew she was one classy writer and here we are 10 books in and shes still writing these outstanding thrillers.

Somebody hates hates Kim Stone with a vengeance. This person wants to cause as much psychological pain by re-enacting traumatic incidents from Kim's childhood.

How do they know these things?
Who hates her that much to do this.
As Kim and her team try to put these pieces together to find this person it may all be too much for her to continue on the case because as strong and focus as she is each new traumatic find is resulting in her having to disclose her past to her team so they can catch this killer.

What I loved about this book is the way she brought all her old enemies back, each one with an axe to grind.

Thrilling and another page turner ...Its a winner from me.
