This is my second and sadly, last book I’ve read/will read by Megan Miranda. I didn’t like her novel The perfect stranger but decided to give her another shot. Boring, confusing and way too many characters. There were several parts where I considered giving up and not finishing. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for review.

This book starts off with a bang with an immediate death and hooks you right in from there. Is her death a suicide? You will go back and forth as you read and I promise will be surprised by the ending. Just as strong as her previous hit, "All The Missing Girls".

Super excited to receive this ARC, as I am a big Megan Miranda fan!! I really LIKED this one. I wanted to LOVE it, but had a hard time connecting with any characters. The author did her usual job of great characterization and really giving you a "feel like you're there" atmosphere, but I just wasn't feeling it as much with these people. They just did not seem all that likable throughout most of the story. That being said though, the twist is great and overall, this is a very good book and I am super excited for more!! Avery Greer and Sadie Loman’s friendship began when they were 18. The Lomans were a wealthy summer family who have a house in Littleport, Maine and only visit in season. Avery, a local girl, was working one of the Loman parties when she and Sadie meet. Their friendship takes off from there with the two girls becoming inseparable. Avery became intertwined with the Loman family. The Lomans accepted her in as an extension of their family and later on, Avery started working as a property manager for their business interests.

Ten years later, Avery is throwing the Lomans annual end of season Plus-One party. Oddly Sadie fails to show up. When police officers arrive at the end of the night, Avery knows something is very wrong. Sadie’s body has been found near the cliff by the beach and the cops rule it a suicide. But that night lingers with Avery and she still questions what really happened the night Sadie died.

A year after Sadie’s death, a tribute is planned to honor Sadie’s life. Parker, Sadie's brother, is back to help plan it. His return to Littleport rocks Avery to hervery core. The tribute only manages to uncover memories from the summer before Sadie died and the very night of her alleged suicide. Suddenly, Avery starts feeling paranoid, believing that she’s being watchedt.

Avery owes it to Sadie to figure out exactly what happened that terrible night, but if the truth comes out, it could ruin Avery forever...

"The Last House Guest" is Megan Miranda’s latest suspense novel. A few years go, I read "All the Missing Girls" and it was a fabulous read. This book was just as good, if not better. I thoroughly enjoyed how this book was highly suspenseful. Secrets kept unfolding and I couldn’t unravel who really was responsible for Sadie’s death. Avery is an unreliable character from the get-go, evading the truth, with deep-seeded secrets of her own. This was a fun ride and a definite page-turner. Any fan of the thriller/mystery/suspense genre will love "The Last House Guest".

This is my first adult Megan Miranda novel - I was introduced to her writing with her YA mystery COME FIND ME and knew I'd found an author I loved, so I was so excited to dive into this next release!

First, Miranda is excellent with tone. From the very beginning, these pages are steeped with dread. The town feels haunted, and there are great gothic nods throughout. I think I was sweating the entire time I read this. There's been such a trend for heroines in suspense/mysteries recently to be unreliable narrators or deemed unreliable by other characters because of alcohol or substance abuse (particularly in the wake of loss or trauma, which Avery has in spades), so I especially enjoyed that Avery is put in the position she is - reconsidering everything she thought she knew, not being believed by others and having to solve this on her own - through more creative means.

All in all, a great mystery - with plenty of suspects and a dual timeline, you're really left excitedly trying to guess the conclusion up until the end. I'm always happy to find a twisty plot and twisty characters with really excellent writing.

The Last House Guest is beyond brilliant. Multilayered family dynamics coupled with small town stereotypes lead to shared revelations and an outcome I could not predict. This wasn’t a thriller where I felt the need to the race to the finish. I was mesmerized by the goings on in Littleport. I was living and breathing, minute to minute within the pages as details were revealed. One scene in particular, a discovery, had me feeling the chill, nerves strung tight, waiting on bated breath for what could possibly come next. The writing is impeccable, so much so I felt as though I was in the room witnessing it all unfold.

Sadie was compelling. It was alarming how intriguing I found Parker. Connor was the wildcard I couldn’t quite figure out. His character brought a dynamic to the story that worked well. Miranda excels at setting the scene and fleshing out characters.

The Last House Guest is another standout by an author who has quickly become an automatic purchase for me.

Megan Miranda definitely doesn't disappoint.

The Las House Guest follows Avery Greer, a local resident of the tiny Maine sea town of Littleport. A town that seems split down the middle. The out of town vacationers and the hardworking locals hardly ever mix. Avery doesn't seem to fit in with either. She has experienced tragedy after tragedy and longs for nothing more than to fit in. She's always idolized the Loman's, the town's very own 'Vanderbilt's', from afar. Only in Littleport during the summers, living in their enormous estate on the bluff overlooking the sea. She thinks that they have it all and would give anything to be a part of that world. While working a party at the Loman's beautiful home, she finally meets their daughter Sadie. The pair become almost inseparable. Avery becomes literally swept up by the family.

From the start of the story we know that Sadie is dead. The story alternates between the present and the night of her death almost one year earlier. Her death was ruled a suicide, but Avery doesn't believe that's what happened. The Loman's have returned to Littleport for a dedication ceremony in honor of Sadie. Avery is being hounded by one of the detectives that worked the case a year before and she can't shake the feeling that there is way more to the incident, more to the Loman family, than meets the eye.

This story is full of secrets and tragedy, friendship and deceit. Miranda creates a slow, slow burn of tension with twists and turns that will leave you shocked. I love when I don't see the end coming.

Avery is completely caught in the middle of one wicked turn of events.

Ok so naturally I will not spoil anything for you but I will tell you this....

Put all of these characters together and you have one awesome story and an ending that you would never see coming.

I mean for real this book gave me chills and I loved it!

This is my 2nd Megan Miranda book and it was just as good as the other one. Enough suspense to keep me interested until the end.

So Good! Avery and Sadie have become good friends, even though they are from totally different worlds. Sadie is from a rich family who runs a vacation paradise in town and Avery works for Sadie’s father managing the vacation properties that the family owns. The summer Sadie commits suicide, Avery learns that her best friends family isn’t as perfect as they look from the outside. As Avery digs deeper into the details of Sadie’s death, she becomes convinced that suicide wasn’t the cause. Excellent novel with many twists and turns, highly recommended.

Megan Miranda is always great with thrillers. This one left me guessing right until the end. I was hooked from the start. While I didn't love the conclusion, I love the journey. Can't wait to read what the author writes next!

I first would like to say that I am so excited to have an advanced reader's copy of a Megan Miranda book! I've been a fan of her writing for a while and I have to admit I was kinda fan girling! All that aside, I couldn't wait to dive into The Last House Guest.

The story is solid, thrilling and left me with goosebumps. Do we really know the people we think we do? Do we overlook certain things just so we can finally belong? The Last House Guest is a page turning, engrossing read. I love being able to feel myself in the middle of a book, and I certainly did with this one. I could even smell the salty, ocean air. Great thriller with an unexpected twist!

Sadie Loman had everything; money, a huge house on the Breakers, and her family owns half of Littleport. Avery was hired to help at a party at the Loman's house. Sadie accidentally walks into a bathroom where Avery was cleaning up after cutting herself. Avery had lost everything and was on a fast track to failure, until Sadie claimed her. Suddenly, Avery was brought into a world of "the others". She felt a sense of belonging among the wealthy families that owned most of littleport. Sadie was not only her best friend, but someone who saved her from doom. Everything changed the night of the plus one party...Sadie was found at the bottom of the bluffs, an apparent suicide. Avery's world had come crashing down. Suicide didn't seem to fit Sadie. Little by little, things weren't adding up. The strange power outages at the Loman's residence, the break-ins at their rentals and the feeling of being watched. Clues began surfacing that maybe Sadie didn't commit suicide after all. Avery needs to find out what exactly happened that night, and quickly, before something happens to her.

I loved All the Missing Girls (4.5/5) so I was so excited to be able to check out Megan Miranda's latest book. This cover is beautiful, and I started reading it as soon as I got it. Unfortunately, the book didn't keep my attention for the most part. I didn't feel much connection w/ the main characters so I had a hard time getting into the story. I did love the ending, and I'm a sucker for a good ending. I didn't see the ending coming. And I love stories and endings that leave my surprised and wondering why I didn't see it coming. For that reason I bumped up my review from a 3 to a 3.5.

I think Megan Miranda fans will overall be pleased and it will make for a fun summer read for those that choose to pick this up.

The Last House Guest is the third book I have read from author Megan Miranda, and definitely my favorite so far. I previously read All the Missing Girls and The Perfect Stranger. Neither of which were terrible, but they were not my favorites. The story lines themselves were not terrible at all, but the characters were less than likable. I like having a character I care about by the end.

The Last House Guest introduces us to Avery, who while not perfect by any means, is not a bad main character. She works hard taking care of the Loman rental properties, keeping guests happy and rooms rented. She genuinely cared deeply for her friend Sadie who a year earlier was thought to have killed herself, though Avery doesn't buy that theory and starts her own investigation. She seems to have had a wild streak in her teens, but having lost her parents in a tragic accident, that doesn't seem abnormal at all.

I really enjoyed all the plot twists in this novel and by the end I suspected everyone, Some of the twists were easier to guess than others, because there are several. The ones I guessed were not detrimental to the story, just added to it. Parts of the story seem a little slow but overall it's a good read.

I like this author, but it always seems to be a little too wordy for me. Great story and easy to follow.

Another fantastic novel by Megan Miranda.

As summer winds down, only the last of the vacationers are left behind in Littleport. Local resident, Avery Greer soon finds herself spinning out of control and on the defense when her so-called best friend, Sadie Loman, is found dead, in what is being ruled a suicide. But this town is full of secrets and in her quest for the truth, Avery may not like what she finds.

Miranda provides a multidimensional narrative, full of elusive foreshadowing. The story is psychologically driven with a cast of well developed character that give a unique undertone to the narrative. It is superbly written to hold the reader’s attention from the first page to the very last. 5 stars.

This is the fourth Megan Miranda book I’ve read, and I was not disappointed! It was captivating, suspenseful and kept you guessing. With a long list of characters, you’ll think you have it figured out and yet the ending will surprise you. While All the Missing Girls was told backwards, this one jumps between the aftermath of her friend’s death and the events leading up to it. I found that interesting and loved how it was done in a way that was still easy to follow. I would absolutely recommend this book!

Avery and Sadie came from two different worlds. One where locals and visitors didn’t form friendships. However, in an unlikely turn of events they did become best friends. One night during an annual party though, Sadie is found dead. While the authorities are convinced it was a suicide Avery doesn’t believe it for a minute. In a town where she knows people blame her, Avery is determined to not only clear her own name but to also find out what happened to her best friend. Will she be able to uncover the truth or is she just putting herself in danger?

I am a big fan of Megan Miranda so I was thrilled to receive an e-galley. Like all of her other books this one does not disappoint. The main character, Avery, is trying to solve the mystery of her friend Sadie’s suicide or was it really? This book is full of friendships, lies and betrayals. A very interesting, twisty read! This one was a slow burn for me. It took awhile to really get into it. Once past the halfway point, I started to enjoy it more. I liked the setting a lot and the imagery it provided. I would have liked the story to move along faster but the ending twist made it worth it. I did not see this book turning out the way it did! Overall, this is a thriller I would recommend.
