Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey is such a fun summer romance! Annie Cassidy, a diehard romantic comedy fan, is waiting for the perfect romantic plot line to take her by surprise. Annie grew up watching classic rom-coms with her mother such a Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail, and When Harry Met Sally. Annie has very high romantic expectations and she won’t settle for anything less than the perfect relationship. She’s bound to meet her own version of Tom Hanks soon, right?

When a film crew comes to her hometown to film a new romantic comedy, Annie winds up getting a job as an assistant to the director. Annie is so intent on finding her Mr. Right that she doesn’t realize her coffee mishap with the lead actor of the film, hunky Drew Danforth, could actually be the beginning of her own romance.

This book is perfect fans of rom coms and pop culture. I was delighted by the quirky humor and had a smile on my face the entire time. The writing was excellent, this definitely did not read like a debut novel. My favorite aspect of this book were Annie’s relationship with her best friend Chloe and her Uncle Don. Annie and Chloe’s banter was hilarious and Uncle Don was so sweet and supportive.

Although a tad predictable, I was intrigued and read this quickly because I needed to find out the ending! If you’re looking for a cute romance, I recommend checking this one out!

This was a cute, fluffy love letter to romcoms. Even though I found the heroine Annie to be frustrating at time, I really did enjoy reading this book and am looking forward to the upcoming Chloe/Nick (I hope!) sequel..

Waiting for Tom Hanks what a breathe of fresh air for a new author!!

Ok let me start out by saying I've been getting into romance so much lately and this definitely feeds that romance withdrawal.

I have seen my fair share of movies with Tom Hanks... Big, You've Got Mail, Splash, and Sleepless in Seattle. I was under the impression that Tom Hanks was just the title for this novel. I was a little thrown for a loop how many times "Tom Hanks" was mentioned in this book and all the references for his movies/rom-com's. I was a tad annoyed but towards the end of the book I realized that this added to the uniqueness of this rom-com! ;).

Annie is waiting for her Tom Hanks and "meet cute" moment to arrive. A romantic comedy is happening in her hometown and she lands the job as the director's assistant. She meets the main actor Drew and spills hot coffee all over him. Is this her "meet cute"?!

This was sweet, engaging, fast, and funny rom com. I would recommend if you're looking for a light and fluffy romance.

4 stars!

I'm looking forward to reading Kerry Winfrey's next book!

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Berkley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

This was just a lot of fun. If you're a fan of rom-coms, especially those starring Tom Hanks, I think you'll enjoy this one. Plus, for me, the friendship between the MC and Chloe and the relationship between her and her uncle were actually pretty great. You should know, though, that it's pretty over-the-top in terms of rom-com references. The MC is very obsessed with rom-coms (for a reason) and mentions them often. She also has a tough time moving forward with her own life without a perfect rom-com situation facing her. It can be a bit frustrating at points but the book moved so quickly for me and I enjoyed most of the references, that it didn't really bother me. But I can see how it could really grate on some people. So if you don't mind the MC mentioning rom-coms and Tom Hanks and perfect meet-cutes and dates and romances, then you should check this out. It's a perfect pick for the beach or pool and left me smiling.

Okay, award for most adorable book of 2019 definitely goes to Kerry Winfrey’s Waiting for Tom Hanks! So much charm and heart within these pages - not to mention references to my favorite childhood romcoms - hello You’ve Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, just to name a few!

Annie, who lost both her parents at a young age, is obsessed with Nora Ephron, romantic comedies and of course, the idea of finding her own Tom Hanks (the type, not the person, don’t fret Rita Wilson). When Annie gets the opportunity to work as an assistant on a movie set filming locally, she might just get her chance!

Contemporary romance fans rejoice, this is another winner in this genre. With fade to black romance scenes, those who don’t want too much steam will love this one. Endearing and charming, now all I want is “Not Like the Movies” - a follow up coming next from Winfrey!

Thank you to Berkley for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

This was a lovely, cute and lighthearted story.I liked the premise and the consept, I find it refreshing! The story is about Annie, who is a writer and obsessed with rom coms.Who doesn't like them? I love them!

A romantic comedy is set to film in Annie's hometown and she gets a job as the director’s assistant.Soon she gets to know the lead actor, Drew Danforth and she isn't impressed with him.
Annie was an interesting heroine, I can't say I loved her all the time. She was cute but sometimes she frustrated me.However, in the end I liked her!

It's a fun and cute read so if you like rom com I'm sure you are going to enjoy it.

This book was everything I wanted it to be! It's the perfect summer Rom-Com, with enough depth to make it fully satisfying.

Annie is a romance writer, and a Rom-Com movie watcher (fanatic), waiting for life to happen to her. Ever since her mom's death she has been carrying on their tradition of watching romantic comedies, and waiting for her leading man. Annie is just sure that her meet-cute will happen soon and her life will fully begin. Sadly, each guy she dates seems lamer than the last. And the one movie star that comes to town ends up being someone she CANNOT stand. When will Annie's 'Tom Hanks' finally show up so that she can fall in love and start the life she's dreamed of?

If you are a lover of romcom movies and you love a sweet story, Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey might be the book for you. This a sweet romance that make you just want to yell at the protagonist for being such an idiot and you want to two lovers to just get together already!

I enjoyed Waiting for Tom Hanks, but I'll show my age here and talk about how I haven't seen any of these romcoms! It was nice to see why Annie holds onto romcoms so much, since it's how she stays in touch with her late mother. I thought that was sweet. I also really loved her relationship with her nerdy Uncle! He seemed a little out of touch when it came to women, but you really felt that he cared for her.

I did find Annie slightly frustrating because she holds onto the "perfect guy" who has to fit this ridiculous mold for her. No one is perfect! And love can't be pinned down, and people shouldn't fit in perfect little boxes. I did love the snarky banter between her and Drew that I just HAD to keep on reading to find out if they were going to get together. Like, they had SO much chemistry together, but she was just fighting it and I wanted to shake her.

There is a little bit of unnecessary drama in this book, but it definitely makes sense in the romcom formula and for a romance book. Never fear, though because this book DOES have a happy ending. Which was very happy about.

This book is a romance novel, but it's more on the low heat in terms of anything physical happening it in. So if you like a romance book that leaves a little more to the imagination, or you just want to read something with low heat, I'd recommend this one.

A rom-com about a girl who is obsessed with rom-coms, is writing a rom-com, and meets a boy while working on the set of a rom-com... OH I AM SO IN! This novel was so cute and had so many great nods to old romantic comedy films and I loved every second of it. It definitely had its cheesy moments and classic romantic comedy cliches, but it was really enjoyable and fast paced. The characters were really cute and I was truly cheering for Annie by the end of the novel.

All in all, it was a fun, fast paced, and entertaining read. I would highly recommend this to readers who enjoy rom-com novels! Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for sending this novel in exchange for an honest review!

Unfortunately this one didn't work for me at all. The heroine was unlikable for most of the book and mean to the hero for no reason. She had an obsession with romcoms and frankly, she was delusional.
I loved the idea, the execution failed, however.

The concept for this rom-com book was really interesting. Honestly a lot of nostalgia feelings, but overall it was cute, but a little overdone at the end. That being said, really relaxing read!

I've been working on branching out and taking chances on new authors or new-to-me authors. Sometimes, it doesn't work out so well, but sometimes, like with Waiting for Tom Hanks, it pays off spectacularly.

This story was smart, sweet, and full of swoon. Annie and Drew have chemistry from the start. The only problem is Annie can't see it. I'll be honest. I almost gave up on this book around one-third of the way through. Annie was so set in her search for love that she a bit blindsided by it. She chastised Drew for “judging” her when she was doing the very same thing. But I had high hopes, and I pushed through. Once Annie stopped being so judgmental, the story took off for me. I loved the side story with Chloe and Nick, and I can't wait to get my hands on their story. Drew was the perfect leading man. He made it easy for Annie, but she didn't make it easy for the two of them. It was a hard-fought HEA, but we got there in the end. I really enjoyed Winfrey's writing. Her knowledge of rom-coms was impressive, and I appreciated how she wove their formula into her sorry. I'll definitely be reading more from Winfrey in the future.

A cute contemporary romance that I enjoyed from this debut author. I cannot wait to read more from her. .

The title of this book is what caught my eye and I am so glad I went for it.A little predictable at times but who cares, this book was sweet and funny and just what I needed.
A girl who wants the "rom-com" meet-cute, the movie worthy moments, it's truly what most women want.  At times she was looking too hard for something that was right in front of her face.
Annie grew up with hearting of the love story of her parents and watching rom-com's with her mom before she died. She just wanted everything her mom had and was going through life looking for her TOM HANKS.  She's a writer, writing a romantic comedy screenplay herself has the job of a lifetime thrust upon her.  She gets to be the assistant to a famous director who's filming in her own town.  Drew Danforth - a movie star will be playing the "Tom Hanks" of the movie.
Of course their paths cross and of course, there is some electricity between the two of them.

Like I said, some predictability while reading but that didn't deter from me enjoying this book. The supporting cast of characters pulled this book together for me.

4.5 stars!

Waiting for Tom Hanks is about Annie, a young woman obsessed with romantic comedies and searching for her own "Tom Hanks". Not the actual Tom Hanks, but the metaphorical version of him where he's the perfect man in romantic comedies. When she finds out a romantic comedy is going to be filming in her neighborhood, she gets a job on the set where she meets leading man Drew, the opposite of Tom Hanks.

I loved this book, I actually made myself put it down so I could get enough sleep for work the next day. Had it not been a working day, I would have read this until well into the evening because it was a total page turner. A great enemies to lovers romance, this book was more than just a romance book, it was an ode to rom com films. And obviously I love rom coms more than I knew I did, because I knew Every. Single. Rom. Com. Reference in this book.

One of the better books I've read this year, I am now a Kerry Winfrey fan and excited to read more of what she has to come. And even though this book takes place in winter, it is the perfect beach read for this summer!

This book with all its rom-com references makes for the perfect fun, summertime read. I appreciated how the love story purposely read as a rom-com and especially loved the references to movies and actors.

This was a perfect read for those fans of 90's romantic comedies. It playfully incorporates all the tropes from the movies we love, while making it relevant to a 2019 audience. A really fun, lighthearted read!

Waiting for Tom Hanks is a gift that keeps on giving! If you have ever wanted a behind the scenes look into what it takes to make one of your favorite rom-com movies, this is the book for you! Kerry Winfrey's book tells the story of a rom-com movie fanatic who is looking to find her own happily ever and make it in the film industry as a writer. She is looking for her own version of a character that Tom Hanks played in movies such as Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail,

Kerry Winfrey did a fantastic job in creating characters that were opposites and turned out to have undeniable chemistry. Annie Cassidy is a twenty-seven-year-old woman who is a die-hard rom-com fanatic.
She grew up watching them with her mom and has always thought she would fall in love like so many of the characters in the movies. She is going on blind dates and trying dating apps so she can get the happily ever after she always wanted. And in the process, she is starting to write her own screenplay. Her dating life isn't going that great, but her professional life gets better when she lands a job as an assistant on a movie filming in her city.

Becoming an assistant on set might be the catalyst that fast-forwarded her search to Mr. Perfect. She meets her love interest and he is everything she doesn't think she is looking for in a man. He is funny, sarcastic, and doesn't take life too seriously.

I really loved that Kerry Winfrey didn't just create two charming characters she gave us equally great supporting characters in Chloe and Uncle Don.

Overall, I give this romance novel 5 stars for making me fall in love with rom-coms again. I will be binge-watching so many because of this book. I can't wait to read more from this author (that snippet of the next book is getting me so excited)!

I love romcoms and so this book was a highly enjoyable book! There are great homages to classic romcoms and I found myself smiling throughout. Gave me all the feels!

Sigh. I wanted to love everything about this, I really did. And there was a LOT to like - so many pieces worked for me and I loved the characters and the setting. But, it just wasn’t enough. I adore rom com movies and books so I should have been the perfect audience for this, but I really feel like there were more movie references than actual story. It’s one of those books that I feel with a few more rounds of editing and a few more eyes on it, it would have been excellent 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ll read the next in the series though!
