I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Little Hoo is adorable. The story is totally relatable as everyone gets sick sometimes. Lots of repetition so geared toward a younger audience or early readers.

Its about a little owl having the flu and his mother looking after him. Illustrations are bright and colourful.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the eARC

In this story we follow Little Hoo as Mother Hoo takes care of him while he is sick with the flu. I really like how there is a link to get your own get well card to print for your sick friends at the end.

This is a great book that can teach children how to take care of themselves while they are sick. You can also emphasize how friends can do things that can help make others feel loved and cared for with thoughts and kindness like Little Hoo's friends.

An ambitious and beautifully organized and collected narrative and images to accompany them. A must for young children and young children's classrooms.

Another great Little Hoo story to share with my granddaughter. Everyone in both of our houses has been sick recently so we could certainly relate to this story. Little Hoo is sick and his mom takes care of him. When his friends come over to play, they find out he can't come out to play because he is sick, so they return with a card and flowers to help him feel better. This is a short sweet story that we talked about and shared our own experiences about being sick. The illustrations always elicit discussion when reading the Little Hoo books. My granddaughter kept saying, "poor Little Hoo, he's sick, I help him get better" and we would talk about how to make someone or yourself get better.

My little one is really into owls right now, so I'll definitely have to find this series for him! But this one in particular, I felt, fell a little flat. The illustrations were charming, but the text wasn't much and I felt it left it to the parent/reader to explain to small children what was really going on. On the other hand, being sick is no fun and any child can relate to poor Little Hoo!

I coincidentally read this book while I was sick, so it made it that much better. This book can be used with very young children because the language and pictures are easy to read and understand.
As the title explains, Little Hoo has the Flu, and this book explains different ways of getting better. Since most students stay home when they are sick with the flu, I wouldn't necessarily use this book in my classroom, but I would highly recommend it to parents.

Erm... I think the book description pretty much says it all. It's a book about a little owl feeling sick and his mum looking after him. It takes you through the basics of having the flu or a cold - e.g. stuffy nose, temperature, feeling tired - and it shows mummy owl looking after her chick but it's that simple. The simplicity would have been fine except that the text was so boring and unimaginative that I don't really recommend it.

However, the illustrations were pretty cool.

I think little Hoo has a cold rather than the flu but otherwise it's cute and good fun to read to a child.

This is a really cute book that can help kids understand how to take care of themselves and others when they are sick. The words and illustrations are simple and concise. Perfect for small children.

Disclaimer: I had a cold when I read this, but not the flu.
As the title screams, the little owl is sick. His mom takes care of him. His friends come over to play, find out they can’t, and return later with gifts and get-well cards. Hoo feels better.
The first shot shows Hoo sick in bed, but smiling. . . no. Has this author never had the flu? Maybe this is done to make little readers feel better when they’re sick, but it seems dishonest.
Funny how he has a huge red spot in the middle of his face, like a runny nose, but there’s no nose to be seen.
At the end you can make and print out your own get-well card.

Little Hoo has the Flu
By Brenda Ponnay
Little Hoo has the flu and his mamma and friends come to the rescue with care and support. It is a nice idea however it is a little boring. Perhaps if it rhymed or if there was a repetitive nature to the story it would have been better. Overall this book didn't hit the spot for me.

Little Hoo has the Flu is a great book for young readers. It has sort sentences and repetitive words making it easy to read. The illustrations worked well they are colorful but not in a way to distract the reader. I highly recommend this book!

A lovely book for really reeeally young readers. Exactly the kind I need to read at midnight before sleep even though I'm 25 years old.

Kind of a cute picture book personifying a family of owls where the little one gets sick and the mother takes care of her. Good advice about what to do when you're sick with sweet, cute pictures.

Being ill and stuck in bed is no doubt very frustrating for children. They will find this book relatable and enjoyable.

I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own - and well - my four year old daughters.

I am an avid reader of Christian fiction, and while browsing for appropriate books on NetGalley, I came across some appealing children's books. I immediately thought that this would be an interesting and innovative way to read to my four-year-old daughter. A couple of books by Brenda Ponnay were available for request so I thought I would give it a try.

Little Hoo Has the Flu - just like Happy Easter, Little Hoo -is a fun and colourful story. It is easy to follow and very educational. My daughter could relate to all the necessities surrounding being sick with the flu - such as resting, drinking lots of water and having warm soup. The KNOCK-KNOCK part is a favourite.

After reading it over twice, she took it from me and started scrolling through the book and telling her own extended version. Well written.

Thank you Brenda Ponnay.

This is a simple story book for young listeners. They will see how well a mother owl takes care of her baby when he becomes ill. The routines of a sick room are simply explained. The reader also sees Little Hoo's friends arrive. They can't play with Little Hoo but come back with a get well surprise for him. Children will be reassured to know that when ill, they can feel better soon.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this e-galley. The opinions are my own.

The illustrations of Little Hoo are adorable! This would a nice little read for a child, sick in bed. I could see this being popular with the pre-K crowd.

Short and sweet. A book to share with toddlers when they are sick (even if they don't have the flu like Little Hoo). Mama Hoo tenderly takes care of Little Hoo, She comforts him, takes his temperature, gives him tissues, water, and soup. When his friends come over, she tells them he can't play. The friends come back with a "Get Well" card. Simple, colorful illustrations that will appeal to pre-K children.
