The Next Right Thing is an excellent resource for many people from different walks of life. Emily P. Freeman doesn't provide readers with an advise column type book. Instead, she empowers readers to make informed decisions in their lives. These are tools we have had all along....we just didn't realize our potential until Emily showed us.

I have loved Emily Freeman since I first read Grace for the Good Girl. Every book she writes hits me right where I need to hear it, and The Next Right Thing was no different. Her words are beautifully written, and her calm voice speaks through the words on the page. She offers practical tips to apply the information presented in the book. A great resource for anyone looking to settle down and make the right big or small decisions in life. Highly recommend this book!!!

Emily is one of my favorite people to find when I need a little bit of space to breathe. She's made it her goal to create that space for us and she succeeds. With her blog, her books, and her podcast that shares the name of this book. I've said that Emily's words are like a liturgy to my soul. She guides, directs, and encourages in the most gentlest and practical ways. This book will always be one for reference when I'm looking to see how to do my next right thing.

Look what came! Let me tell you about this wonderful book that I haven’t actually finished yet (because some things beg to be read slowly). I’ve been listening to The Next Right Thing podcast for nearly a year, and I can’t even begin to tell you what a blessing those weekly words of calm have been, and what a grace they were during a difficult season last fall and winter. So I jumped at the chance to preorder and join the launch team. You guys, if you’re struggling with decisions, big or small, or on the cusp of change—read this. Take it slow and keep lots of post-its nearby, and find some “space for your soul to breathe.”

Making decisions can be challenging for me. I am sometimes not sure which direction is the right one and second-guess my decisions. Emily P. Freeman can relate. In her book "The Next Right Thing," she offers insights into how we can make better decisions and feel confident about our choices. I appreciate her reminder to do the next right thing. It's okay if that thing isn't the perfect choice. The key is to take action based on our preferences or the Holy Spirit's nudges. I also like her writing style. It's down-to-earth and not preachy.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has to make decisions. It offers helpful advice that can help us discern and do the next right thing.

I really enjoyed this book by Emily. I'm a big fan of hers already and this did not disappoint. I felt like this book was very well suited to someone further along in their spiritual journey and maybe a little older in age. That being said, I think a seasoned young adult could also gain a lot from reading this book as well as someone who is just starting their spiritual journey.

Goodreads tells me I was 21 when I read her first book. The book was called Grace for the Good Girl: Letting Go of the Try-Hard Life. I read it while holding my first baby, absorbing the freeing breath of every kind of air I didn’t know I needed. Grace was a good thing to find just then.

Then came A Million Little Ways: Uncover the Art You Were Made to Live speaking into my soul all the ways I’m free to be creative and serve God in many little ways freely how he made me to be. Perfect to read when holding a second tiny baby as a stay at home with aspirations to lots of things, but also nothing in particular except figuring out how to get two kids to sleep at the same time.

Then came that one conference in Oregon in 2015. The only time I’ve been away from my kids for more than two days and Emily just happened to be a speaker at the only writing conference within reasonable distance from where I lived. Though maybe I wasn’t technically away from all my kids since I was pregnant with my third, but it felt like a magical break and I felt welcomed into a tribe of people like me.

While I was there I heard Emily speak and I got up the nerve to greet her, shake her hand or give or hug – I don’t remember which, and tell her how much her writing meant to me. Later that summer I read Simply Tuesday: Small Moment Living in a Fast Moving World, right before meeting our third little one. Small moment living is kind of a requirement when you have three kids 3 and under.

These days, I consider Emily P. Freeman one of my people. Even though I’ve only met her once, her work has been ushering me along my whole adult life into grace, creativity, and the ordinary Tuesday.

This book is no different. It was an invitation to walk beside into a more soul-aware way of living, in the midst of everyday decisions and not-so-everyday decisions. The Next Right Thing is strewn with grace, peace, soul-care, small-moment attentiveness, helpful advice, true-hearted stories, and sound wisdom, while being completely rooted in faith in the one who made us.

I was so grateful for the way she reassures us over and over again of the steadfastness of God in the midst of our decision making processes and how no matter how it might seem, God “does not pull rugs out from under you” and “he does not drop the other shoe” (p47). Sometimes it is hard to remember or to know exactly what faith feels like in the midst of hard times, but hearing these words is so freeing.

I also really appreciated how Emily gently guides us back to knowing what we can control and what we can’t. Multiple times I found myself underlining sentences like these, because they are so just so helpful to remember:

“We can’t prevent storms from coming, but we can decide not to invent our own.” p79
We can start down that road of doubt and questioning if we want to. But just because the doubts show up doesn’t mean you have to let them sit down.” p138
Each chapter is short and ends with a short prayer and a simple practice for decision making. I want to reread this book soon, a little more slowly this time, just to absorb. It is equally practical and faith-growing.

It was lovely, helpful, Jesus-ful, and uplifting.

In this non-fiction book, Emily Freeman gently leads the reader through a multitude of ways that one can make space for their soul to breathe. She teaches us that as we grow in kindness to ourselves and in our walk with Jesus, we will be able to discern what is the 'Next Right Thing' for us in our lives. This book is written with an encouraging tone and the writing style makes you feel as though you are sitting in a coffee shop having a deeply personal, and safe, conversation with the author. This is not just a book for women; both myself and my husband have found the suggestions within to be exceedingly helpful to us as we make decisions. This is a resource that will remain displayed front and center on my bookshelf as I am certain I will return to it time and time again. Emily Freeman's words are a gift to us all.

Emily P Freeman does it again! If you were already a listener to the Next Right Thing Podcast, image more wisdom on decision making in a form were you can highlight, underline, and star. Emily not only talks about picking one thing or the other, but she helps us to prepare our minds, make room, introduce practices and rhythms, and focus on today. The short chapters have been great for reading before bed which gives me time to reflect and journal. I think this book is a must-read not only because it challenges the reader, but teaches you HOW in simple to the point steps. This book has encouraged me in big and small decisions and challenged me to think through WHY I do the things I do. This is a book I know I will come to over and over again. What a treasure

Absolutely love this book!
It's so helpful in a calming way! When decisions are hard to finalize, it can be intimidating to read words to make decisions. Emily comes at it from a loving and caring place and her words comfort you towards whatever decision that needed to be made. Thank you, Emily!

Do you have a difficult time making decisions? Do you tend to overcommit? This book is for you.

This book is a game-changer if you are at all struggling with your life. Even if you aren't religious, this book's intention-setting and deep thinking will help you. I wish I had purchased a hard copy of it, because it's one of those books that needs to be highlighted and penciled in, that needs to be carried around, that needs to be lent out. This book's message will help so many people in their careers and family lives.

This book is also impeccably well-written and designed. You can tell Emily Freeman deeply cares about the craft of writing. Every word is chosen perfectly. It is a pure joy to read.

What a great book! The author has a wonderful 'feel' about her. This book is less about scriptures guiding you to make decisions, and much more about finding out who you are, and how that affects your decision making. There is such a thing as decision fatigue, and many of us suffer from it. Whether it be a major life decision like changing careers, or a simple thing like what color to paint the bedroom, this book will help you sort through it! Lots of personal anecdotes from the author sharing about her own life and decisions, which are a wonderful addition. I highly recommend this book to high school grads, college grads, those thinking of getting married...pretty much every person can benefit from this book. Highly recommended!

I love Emily Freeman's podcast, but I don't feel that this book provided anything new. In fact, parts of it seemed repetitive since I had heard them on the podcast. This may appeal to people who don't already listen to her podcast, but I feel that audio is more Emily Freeman's thing.

More often than not, we find ourselves in a season where we need to make a decision. Some seasons, there are a series of small decisions to make. Some seasons, we have to make these decisions that feel so big, huge, life changing really. Either way, we make a lot of decisions daily. Sometimes we can get decision fatigued, just plain weary of needing to make yet another decision. Well, at least I know I do. And then there are those seasons when we want to make a choice but no matter how hard we seek the Lord's guidance and ask guidance from others too, we just don't know what is the right thing to do.

In The Next Right thing, Emily P. Freeman helps you process through this season. She helps to create space for your soul to breathe so you can discern the next right thing in life. Whether you are in the midst of a major life transition or just weary of the daily decision making, this book is for you. If you are wondering what the next thing to do is or if you fear choosing wrong, this book is for you.

Though I'm not in a season where I need to make a major life decision, I found this book so good. I know I can at times be afraid of making the right choice, though I know the Lord will guide me. But I also know the feeling of getting decision fatigue with all the decisions I need to make about everything. And this book spoke right into those situations, and to a thousand others as well.

So no matter what kind of a season you are in? I'm sure you still have decisions to make every day -- from what you are going to wear and eat, to the major life changing decisions. And this book is the best companion to all those seasons and situations. Emily P. Freeman's style of writing is so full of grace, you will feel the grace washing over you as you read this book. I can't recommend this book enough, honestly. Please read it. And then buy it for all your friends, too. They will thank you.

If you are interested in this book, I highly recommend also checking out her website and beautiful blog. I also recommend listening to her podcast called The Next Right Thing Podcast. That podcast is one of the very few I listen to and enjoy, as I am very picky when it comes to podcasts. Emily P. Freeman is such a sweet and gracious soul. I think we all would profit from listening to her wisdom.

What can I say that Emily has not already said so eloquently, yet simply?

I have listened to Emily’s podcast from day one, regularly sending off episodes to friends and family. I have listened to some episodes multiple times. Now she has put some of those words into a hard bound form. The internet may be forever, but the written word has the power to change lives.

I had the delightful opportunity to read her book early and it is just as amazing. This book needs to be put in the hands of high school grads, college kids, the newly married, parents, empty nesters. Whatever stage of life you are in you are sure to find some nugget of wisdom that will propel you forward. Sometimes I feel more ready to tackle the laundry because of Do the Next Thing mindset. Other times I have dug into serious decisions with confidence because Emily has just the right word for the moment.

Do the next right thing now, and read this book. I know I will come back to this book over and over again, savoring it like my favorite chocolate.
