This is a great starter book for beginning readers. The fun character mole and his trip to the beach is entertaining.

Mole Goes to the Beach is adorable. Very cute pictures that clearly explain the sentences that go with each picture. This very short book is great for the very young and for the beginning reader. This book consists of only 8 pages which is good for the sometimes short attention span of very young who are just being introduced to books and not overwhelming for the beginning reader. There are tips for the parents to help develop the love of reading and at the end simple activities to do together with the young reader. Also, Mole is much cuter in this book than the moles that visit my garden. The little ones will love Mole and all his beach activities.
Thank you Netgalley and Xist Publishing for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Amidst large drawings and a smiling sun, Mole does all kinds of beach-related activities.
There’s no actual story here, just a list of things the animal in question likes to do when near the ocean.
I wonder if it ever crossed the author’s mind that a mole, unlike a dog or cat, would be an unfamiliar animal to the tykes reading this. “Mommy, what’s a mole?” There’s nothing explaining what an actual mole is like, because most of them don’t go to the beach.

Early readers is a challenging genre, as the text needs to be simple and repetitive, yet interesting. This book does a wonderful job with the former but leaves something to be desired with the latter. The illustrations are competent though unoriginal, as well. Overall, if you have a young reader who loves the beach (or moles), they will enjoy this book. Otherwise, maybe pass.

Thanks to NetGalley for the free copy for an honest review.

In this book, Mole goes to the beach for a bunch of fun activities. The artwork accompanying the text is done nicely. I'm sure this book can aid children in learning to read and there are a list of tasks at the end to help children learn from this book.

This book is marketed as a leveled reader with a guided reading level of C. Students reading at a C level would be expected to know some high frequency words, decode CVC words and maybe begin to decove magic e words. For the rest they should be able to use clues to solve, like a picture or context.

In the introduction the book says to have a grown-up read the book to them first. This would be necessary for c-level readers to access this book as it contains vowel-team words that they would be unable to decode independently. Words such as play and eat would be difficult for them to figure out on their own or with the picture.

This would be a book beginning readers could read at home with their families. I would not use this in my classroom for guided reading. The students would be frustrated trying to read this without 1:1 support.

Easy first reader. Cute mole. Easy sentences. Great illustrations, very colorful. Fun to read with toddler or someone learning to read.

Very short, eight pages. But eight pages of colorful, adorable, whimsical fare for toddlers. Mole is pictured relaxing in the sun, swimming and diving with fish, playing in the sand, watching dolphins, surfing, and eating ice cream. Adults are encouraged to read the book aloud "as an introduction." Children can be given the opportunity to read words and finish sentences. Five stars for cuteness!

Mole Goes to the Beach is a straightforward and light-hearted early reader. My five year old daughter whipped through the text with one or two words needing a closer look. The text uses a good balance of structural repetition and image clues to aid the early reader. The images are crisp, humorous and engaging. 4 stars

This book did a great job of helping kids learn some basic words. I loved how well the illustrations paired with the words and the quality of the illustrations. Overall, a very cute book.

Mole is an adorable character: cute and curious. As a teacher, I could already see myself using this book in class. Since this is the Entry Level Reader, the text is suitably simple and based around a few basic verbs that even a very young reader would recognize. If not, there are great illustrations to help the child’s comprehension. This may well be the very first book a child will read on his/her own!
