Beyond a doubt one of the best books of 2019. The first sentence in this book story grabs you right away, the character development is superb, the detail in the writing, the imagery is excellent. The plot weaves in and out . and Jo and Bethie's lives move in so many unexpected directions. It was a great journey!

Jennifer Weiner has the amazing ability to capture the essence of modern womanhood, and that’s precisely what she does, once again, in her latest novel, Mrs.Everything.

Mrs.Everything is a story of two sisters Bethie and Jo who are coming of age during a particular time of women’s liberation. Although they were born in priveledge things take a turn for the worst yet through it all they survive trials and tragedies. Both women take on different paths one decides to follow a more traditional path for women while the other sister rejects the traditional expectations. From molestation, harassment, breast cancer, betrayal, rape and eating disorders the sisters are plagued with incident after incident. While reading I felt both sympathetic, upset and often infuriated by their circumstances. Mrs.Everything I think represents every woman and the constant journey we are on as women to learn, discover and grow.

Overall a good story. The writing was well done and the characters interesting and distinct. I felt it was a little "day by day" the way the story evolved. I was expecting more of an inciting incident that drove the story but it just didn't give me that. I was just life. We had two sisters who went through life and while it was interesting how the dynamics changed as time went on with each sister switching as the "good, reliable" sister it wasn't what I was hoping.

Nothing horrible, but not the amazing story I was expecting based on the brief description.

An eye opening look at the struggle woman feel everyday, trying to be everything to everyone and perfectly! Emotional and gripping, it spans decades between 2 sisters just trying to find themselves and where they fit. It was very heartfelt and heartwarming and I really really enjoyed this positive message the book sends out.

I loved this book! I couldn't put it down. The book spans two sisters lifetimes, and the back and forth perspective kept it so interesting. The book talks about issues that everyone should be talking about; normal things that every woman deals with. Such an empowering book about mothers, daughters, sisters. All things women! A must read!

The first book I ever read from this author was Good In Bed and it was hilarious so I decided I would be a fan forever, then I hear about this long awaited novel and I definitely wasn’t disappointed. I found myself going through emotions with the characters from heartache to joy to despair. Jennifer Weiner’s writing is just such a pleasure to read. The flow of her books keep you interested from beginning to end! I hope we don’t have to wait another 4 years for another wonderful novel!

I requested this book because I was considering it for a book club choice at my library. I am happy to say that I think there will be loads to talk about and I have ordered 10 copies for a book club set. I really enjoyed the character development in these two sisters and also the family dynamics over three generations. I loved the way the author took us through the decades and thought she did a great job at placing us in the time and place. It was a little trip down memory lane in some ways. It was really interesting to see how expectations for women's lives have changed over the decades. There were brief moments throughout the book when I thought the story went on a bit too long and thought it could have been tightened up a bit but by the time I got to the end I didn't feel that way at all. It was a satisfying and fully formed story and I wouldn't want to change a thing.

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner is a woman’s fiction story of two sisters Jo and Bethie Kaufman that follows the arc of their lives from the 1950’s to the present. The sisters would be about 10 years older than I am so much of what they experience over the course of the story is familiar to me. I had high expectations for this book as I enjoy Jennifer Weiner’s books enough that I have re-read several of them however I could not connect with any of the characters and while I found Jo to be the most sympathetic, I found her later passiveness to be disconcerting, that her strong and bright character up until she graduated from college became a shadow of her former self for much of the book was a disappointment. The main emotion that I took away from the book was guilt felt by the various characters, guilt about not being the daughter her mother wanted, guilt about her sexuality, guilt about not looking after her sister, guilt about not loving her husband, guilt about not being a good mother, guilt about believing she ruined her sisters life, guilt about not believing her sister when she asked for help, it carries on through the generations of women in the book creating a pall over the story and while I have felt many of the same feelings I found reading about them in characters I couldn’t relate to be more annoying than anything else. Thank you to NetGalley, Simon & Schuster and author Ms. Jennifer Weiner for this Advanced Readers Copy.

An absolutely riveting and thought provoking read! For today's woman, this book couldn't have come at a better time.
It is a "Herstory" read, taking place in America from the 1950's through to today; following along with the events that shaped America...Vietnam, Kennedy, Abortion rights, Stonewall and Racial Equality.
Two Jewish sisters, Jo and Bernie, want to live their American dream... But what they encounter is that the American dream is attainable as long as it's the male version... live life like a proper women should-knowing your role and your place.

Young Jo loves climbing trees, reading and hates dresses. Usually at odds with her mom, she just can't stop getting in trouble. Young Bernie however, loves singing, acting and wearing dresses. Being pretty is important and her mom agrees.
Two very different girls but each one on a path to live their lives fully during these very turbulent times... Shaped by societal expectations and norms these sisters carve a future that is very different from what their dreams and hearts had in mind!

My personal thoughts;
I LOVED this book!
5 star rating. This is a superb story that is so completely relevant for today's woman.

Not sure how to begin this review because this book left me feeling emotional. Weiner has written a book that is quite lengthy but it spans over decades and touches on so many different issues that effect woman, race and religion.

The book follows the lives of two sisters as they age from young girls to older woman. Their lives twist and turn and take you on an adventure that sometimes was a struggle to read through! I’m not saying it was boring just emotional for me personally as I have experienced some of their struggles myself.

I would say this is not a light read if you are looking for something quick and fluffy but it’s worth the read if you enjoy reading about strong woman finding their feet and fighting and dealing with woman’s rights issues

Thank you to Netgalley for an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review

Wow, this is quite a book. It is hard to know where to begin! This is the story of 2 sisters, Jo and Bethie, spanning from their childhood until their old age. I enjoyed reading about these sisters and getting to know them. I didn't always like them or their choices, but that was OK -- I could definitely feel their ups and downs, successes and failures, joys and sorrows and was invested the whole time.

This book was really well written and spanned a huge, tumultuous time in history, exploring women's roles and civil rights. This book deals with so many issues that women can relate to, hence the title, Mrs. Everything. There's class and race, lesbianism, interracial marriage, women's choices, abuse, motherhood, sisterhood, daughterhood, expectations, women's roles in the paid working world, women's roles at home, happiness and contentment, ...

Weiner shows herself to be a wonderful storyteller as I was engaged the whole time. Parts of the book were necessarily heavy, but still very readable. This is a book that certainly got me thinking and questioning and is timely with the #metoo movement. Going back through the history of these women really shows us the underlying tensions of what women are fighting for, how far we've come, and how much there is to lose.

4.5 STARS - I think every woman will find a bit of herself in this book. With story lines that focus on the good, the not-so-good and the wonderful aspects of being a woman, Mrs. Everything contains voices of mothers, sisters, daughters, grandmothers, aunts and partners and weaves in issues that women can relate to in varying degrees.

This is a lengthy novel that spans decades and follows the lives of two sisters, Jo and Bethie. Through their stories, Weiner addresses many issues that women faced in the past, the issues we have in the present and as well as those that may continue to affect the future of women. She hits on emotional topics through the changing decades and blends them into a story that will captivate readers as we tag along on the bumpy journey of these two women as they figure out who they are on their own and together as sisters.

This is a hearty read at 464 pages and, I'll admit, it felt like it dragged a bit at times. But it's this length that allows Weiner to dig deeper into important issues and show how they reverberate through the sisters' lives - issues that include women's roles within family and society as well as our continued struggle for the right to choose what happens to our own bodies. Through Jo and Bethie, Weiner discusses topics that were important to the women who came before us, to the women we are now and hopefully will embolden society to bring much needed change as we work to transform a world that lifts up and encourages the daughters we're raising today.

This is a powerful story that will run readers through a spectrum of emotions. You'll cry, laugh, feel frustrated and empowered as you read this story about two sisters and their journey to find fulfillment, love and acceptance as women in complicated and ever-changing times.

Note: I highly recommend that readers read Weiner's forward which describes where her inspiration for this story began.

Loved it. My first impression while following the lives of Jo and Bethie Kaufman was of a feminine and feminist version of Forrest Gump. From their childhood in the Fifties through the turbulent Sixties and Seventies to present day, the Kaufman sisters reflect the changing times and find themselves changed in the process.

I love a good saga and Mrs. Everything was everything I hoped it would be, unexpected life choices and all. Ms. Weiner acknowledges her very personal reasons for writing this story in her opening remarks setting the stage for an introspective look at women in society. Living your truth was anything but easy back in the day. Jo and Bethie and the paths they take represent the struggles many women endured in their lives, struggles many women continue to face.

Well done and much food for thought.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story of Jo and Bethie. Over the years these two went through it all. Some bits had me feeling like I was on the roller coaster with them. Jennifer Weiner did not disappoint. Thank you #NetGalley for the #ARC

Thank you NetGalley for providing this ARC. I was looking forward to reading this book as soon as I found out about it. At first I did not enjoy it as much as some of JW's other books, but the story grew on me. I thought she did a fabulous job (as always) on the character development, and appreciate how she treated the sensitive relationships for the era with dignity. Looking forward to your next title, Jennifer Weiner!

Mrs. Everything follows sisters Jo and Bethie from childhood to adulthood, exploring heartbreak, loss, and love through the lenses of two sisters, who could not be more different from each other. Jennifer Weiner does a fantastic job stretching a story over multiple decades and jumping between the sisters without the story ever getting confusing.
Different family and relationship types are being explored in this novel and it never feels forced. At the end of the book everything ties neatly together and you can’t help feeling sad that there aren’t more pages to this book.

Mrs. Everything explores what it means to be a woman in this day and age, but also shows how different things are from back in the day. It shows how far we have come, but also how far we yet have to go.

If you wondering whether it is worth your while to crack the spine of Jennifer Weiner's latest novel, Mrs Everything, let me answer that question for you immediately, and simply. Yes, it most definitely is! The book follows the lives of sisters Jo and Beth Kaufman, and I emphasize the word lives, so the novel is sweeping over the course of decades. The details are to die for, from music to fashion, to food, cars and hairstyles. The scenes were always vividly and accurately portrayed, no details missing. As the sisters are Jewish, the importance of the high holidays, the sabbath and Passover figure centrally, but Thanksgiving and Christmas are equally important to the Kaufmans. In addition the book delves into the politics that influence and shape Jo and Beth's lives, including human rights, the Detroit riots, the Stonewall riots, Vietnam, and women's rights. Jennifer Weiner went so far as describing what people were reading over the years, from Shere Hite's "Sexual Honesty: By Women for Women" and "The Stepford Wives", to "Dr. Spock" and Dr. Dobson's Dare to Discipline. Needless to say, after all this detail, I became vested and invested in Jo and Bethie's lives. As girls, their mother had certain expectations for them, to educate themselves and eventually marry and have children. But there is always that disconnect between expectations of parents and children's desires, the kids always thinking their parents" just don't understand". As Jennifer Weiner states "The only thing that's certain is change." As the years passed, and times changed, women's lives opened up to include other opportunities besides raising a family, as well as who may be considered a "family". Jo and Beth lived through these changes and it was not easy, This entire book is a testament to the fortitude of the Jo's and Bethie's of the world.
I strongly recommend Jennifer Weiner's Mrs. Everything. By the end, you will not be able to grasp the immensity of it. Enjoy it! 5 stars.Thank you #netgalley for the e-arc, and Jennifer Weiner for writing #mrseverything.

Mrs.Eveything" is a novel that follows two sisters throughout their whole life. Their stories bring into light hard times that women face and have faced our whole lives- abuse, rape, abortions, motherhood, sexuality. You name it and it was covered in this book. That's what I like about books that follow them throughout their whole life and not just a few years. We see what happened, how they live with what happened and how it changed them. Mrs. Everything was a beautiful story and couldn't come out at a better time. So many women are stepping forward these days and the #metoo movement. The world has changed alot since the 1950's but it still has a long way to go.
