Katy Connor is a new-to-me author, but I've heard about some of her other Doctor books, so I was delighted to find this while poking around on NetGalley looking for something to read. I was even more delighted to receive an ARC in exchange for an honest review. And, as the two stars indicate, it was OK.
As other reviewers have pointed out, it is a second chance at love story where the H/H meet ten years after their original relationship. That is all well and good and is a proven trope for a reason. It works - most of the time. In this book, though, it just didn't quite reach maximum potential.
For example - Alex fell for Jenny during Med School orientation but waited until Match Day - six weeks before graduation - to actually talk to her. He said he somehow knew she wasn't ready. Uh huh. Maybe she was constipated that day, dude. Maybe she has a serious case of RBF. Whatevs. When they do finally speak, they're finger banging in a restaurant within an hour and doing the horizontal mambo within another hour. It's Erotica, so that's fine. But, the part that gets me is that they're both ready to confess love and plan their lives together after three days of intense bedroom shenanigans - most of which happens off the page. Say what? Uh huh. The next phases of their medical careers will take them to opposite sides of the country, so I totally get why Jenny left him a beautifully written letter and went on about her life.
It's what happens once they are working at the same hospital that gets me and started costing this book stars. He comes across as SUPER angry. She comes off as SUPER immature. What does that mean for the readers? Lots of kinda hate sex, but also kinda mix signals sex. He's all about saying one thing but doing another. While she's too busy running and hiding and getting black-out drunk off two drinks. I can get behind the anger sex against a door, don't get me wrong, but the bar scene was just not right. To me, they were both acting entirely out of character (even considering the drinks).
Also, why did Jenny have to blurt out that she hadn't been with anyone since him? That got LOTS of side eye, especially since HE didn't say the same thing. He said he'd dated, but had HE been with anyone else? Did that question ever get answered? Because it honestly wasn't clear to me and I dropped it another half of a star.
The second half was because of his accident. I'm sorry, but that just came across as lazy writing. Have them talk it out. Have them date and break up again. Whatever, but they have to go through it TOGETHER. Otherwise, this is just him being in an emotionally broody space and waking up in that same space, but with her all "we'll be together forever, oh and we're pregnant" while he hasn't had the chance to get on the same emotional page.
But, the third star was lost because of his accident, recovery, and their oopsy pregnancy from having unprotected sex ONE TIME. Thanks, but no thanks. I read to escape my reality, including infertility, and I get that this is supposed to be an ideal fantasy situation, but that just doesn't work for me.
So, overall, I liked the premise. I liked the possibility of a second chance at love story set in a hospital between two medical professionals. I just wish they were a little more emotionally mature and that the story didn't have quite the same ending. And, for what it's worth, I am still very interested and curious to read some of the other books that this author has written.

I really liked the two main characters and loved the detail that you meet them when they first meet at Harvard then we fast forward to 10 years later. The two main characters POV was delivered really well and it had a satisfying ending.
My only quip with the book is that it was too short! I would have loved to read more about them
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this story in exchange for a honest review.

Hospital romances are my catnip so I was really excited to read this book. Unfortunately, it was not good. The plot was just bad. Alex and Jenny are medical students at Harvard. Alex has harbored feelings for Jenny for years but waits until Match Day (basically the end of medical school) to approach her. They go out on one date and he gives her an orgasm in the restaurant. I like erotica but really? Their first date turns into a three day sexfest where they fall into instalove. She freaks and leaves him. Their paths cross again years later when they both turn up as chiefs of their respective departments at the same hospital. The first day they are reunited? Angry sex. There was potential with the story but the execution was not good.

I have no words to describe how much I disliked this novel. I've read my fair share of instant love erotica stories but this doesn't even compare to them at all. The characters were bland, the sex scenes were lackluster, and the “I love you” literally happened within 3 days of passion while no details in between were given, which is quicker than quick in my opinion. Luckily it was a easy read and I was able to get this done by ½ hour. At least not much of my time was wasted.

This was a cute romance. I liked them both being doctors and reconnecting years later. I wish it was a little longer of a book.

3 stars
Fast read, finished it in one sitting. More of a novella than a book. Not thick on plot, mostly hot sex scenes. Cute second chance plot, but I felt something was lacking.

Alex is Dr. Holy Hotness, and Jenny is the woman he has loved most of his adult life. They met in med school, and knew they were right for each other then. However, Jenny also knew that the time wasn’t right for them then. Unfortunately, leaving Alex with only a Dr. John letter hurt Alex more than she really expected. Years later, they meet again. They are both now at the top of their professions and working at the same hospital. It seems like the time is right, but has Jenny recovered from a painful childhood, and has Alex recovered from Jenny leaving him years earlier?
