As always, I appreciate the opportunity to read and review this title.

However, I was not able to finish this as I was not able to connect with the story and the way the characters were written.

I have chosen to mark this title as a "DNF" and I apologize for the delay in sending this response to this title.

Thank you!

If I could give half stars, this would be a solid 3.5 stars. The writing flowed well, my problem came with Tess. I understand that she had a lot of crappy people in her life, BUT she constantly pushed away the people who showed her again and again that they were there for her. The only thing missing from the fit she threw outside the bar was her stomping her foot like a 3 year old. Mason didn't intentionally embarrass her, and his friends weren't trying to be rude either. Yet Mason was the one who apologized. I honestly liked them together when Tess could get out of her head, but those moments were few and far between. That's why the sudden change of heart at the end was hard to take. I really enjoyed the secondary characters, and they made the story better in my opinion. I thought the ending was sweet, and I would love to read Nate and Cece's story.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.

This is a contemporary romance.  It’s a fun funny entertaining read.   Contemporary romance is one of my favorite genres because I can see the scene easier than if I was reading regency or Scottish highlander books.

The banter between Mason and Tess is sharp funny and fast paced.  I found myself giggling throughout this entire book.

I have to mention the dogs that are in this book.  They are so cute, funny and totally believable.  The way that the author portrays how these animals behave is to me spot on and hilarious to read.  I love the names Wick and Astro.  I totally thought of the Jestsons as soon as I read the animals’ name.  Goes to show how old I am.

I really hope that Mason and Tess’s friends get their own story and a HEA as well because they deserve it.  The friends totally added to the story, they enriched it, and it made me want to learn more about who they are and what makes them tick.

Mason and Tess are both caught up in their work and don’t have the time or desire to form a relationship.  They each have their own reasons for this which the author reveals as the story progresses.  I love the chemistry between Mason and Tess.  It’s all consuming and no matter how much both of them try and deny it, it’s there.   I love it.

If the reader wants to try a contemporary romance that’s full of hot sex scenes, funny banter, and an all around great read, look no further.  This book will fill those requirements.

Didn’t like this one really at all- only redeeming quality ⭐️cute dog on the cover.
None of the characters made me like them or honestly care what happened to them. That’s always important to me- that I can connect with a character. This was a sadly disappointing book.

Heartbreaker by Inara Scott
Source: NetGalley and Entangled Publishing
Rating: 4/5 stars

Not many love stories start with a 200 pound Mastiff with a bum leg 😊 Mason Coleman doesn’t actually own the lazy beast he currently has possession of, but he is going to care for him until his sister can reclaim her slobbery monster. Unfortunately, Mason can’t be there 24/7 for the beast as he so clearly needs which leads Mason to an embarrassing bit of begging which results in Tess Papion becoming the beast’s caretaker.

Tess’s background has brought her to the point in her life where she has learned to rely on only herself. In Tess’s experience, relying on others only brings you heartbreak, disappointment, and debt. Tess may have next to nothing now, but she doesn’t have any debt and she sure isn’t looking for a man to cause her anymore heartbreak. With many jobs, a house that’s falling apart but hers, and a goal of vet school, Tess only accepts Mason Coleman’s offer because of the beautiful beast who clearly needs her, and the ridiculous amount of money Mason is offering. Sure, Mason is smoking hot and certainly knows how to turn on the charm, but he has “love ‘em and leave ‘em” written all over him. Yeah, it’s best to avoid temptation like that.

Mason just can’t understand Tess. He can clearly see she wants him, but she is startingly stubborn and insistent on keeping their relationship strictly professional. Because he’s a gentleman, Mason agrees to most of Tess’s terms, but doesn’t agree to ignoring her and letting her be to just complete her job and go home. In fact, Mason makes it his mission to get to know Tess, understand her, and with luck, that effort will be rewarded with some sexy times. Because of his own past, Mason naturally assumes he will be successful, but he hasn’t ever met anyone like Tess. In short order, Mason realizes he hasn’t ever met anyone like Tess and that changes everything for Mason. In fact, meeting Tess and getting to know her causes Mason to reevaluate nearly every aspect of his life.

The days go by quickly for both Tess and Mason and as they get to know one another, over coffee and long walks with the slobbery beast, each begins to question some their most basic life choices. Mason makes Tess want to consider trying and trust someone other than herself, and Tess causes Mason to consider seeing the same woman beyond his normal four dates. Their lives begin to blend beyond the care of the hulking beast, and both find it harder and harder to ignore the growing feelings and palpable chemistry. That is, until the unthinkable happens and Tess completely melts down!

The Bottom Line: This was my first Inara Scott read and I’m feeling pretty good about coming back for some more! With the exception of one thing – Tess’s constant whining about not relying on anyone other than herself – I quite enjoyed this book! I have a hard time resisting a hot guy caring for a fur baby in need so this one really started off quite right for me. As the book wore on I found I very much liked the entire cast of characters, especially Mason’s two best friends. The expanded cast of characters very much adds to the overall depth of the read and clearly sets up the next two books in the series. To be sure, this one has a bit of everything including good dialogue, appropriate sexy times (nothing gratuitous!), some fine humor, and just enough drama to be a properly emotional read. I’m ready for book two and sincerely hoping it’s Connor’s story; what a wonderfully oblivious nerd he is 😊

***I received an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley, Entangled Publishing and Inara Scott.***

Heartbreaker, by Inara Scott, is a contemporary romance about 2 people whose lives are worlds apart. Tess is working multiple jobs—including dog walker—on her way to finishing college and applying to veterinarian school. Mason, a successful venture capitalist, inherits his sister’s untrained and sickly mastiff. He solicits Tess’s help. She’s the opposite of the type of woman he’s normally attracted to but he can’t ignore their chemistry. If he wants a future with her, he’s going to have to convince her to have faith in him.

This one was a bit of a slow starter for me. I honestly didn’t like Mason very much at first. In fact, I wasn’t sure I could ever like him. He was very rude to Tess, and I hated how he saw her as beneath him. Every time he called her “street urchin,” I wanted to punch him. I was shocked that I actually grew to admire him. He really did show some great character growth, as did Tess. I liked watching them realize they had feelings for one another, accept those feelings and then finally, admit them to the other person. I wish there hadn’t been so much miscommunication between them. I never love that as a plot device. Overall though, a cute story with lots of dogs.

It wasn't too bad, just wasn't really my cup of tea. I liked the characters, and the story, it just fell flat in my opinion. There was so much more that could have been done. The way everyone always treated Mason like he was a jerk all time, just mad me sad. I liked Mason and I think Tess was the perfect counterpart to him.

I liked it, but it wasn't my favorite. I'd like to see what else this author has out.

Cute story. Handsome, rich, nice guy Mason, agrees to take care of his sister’s enormous drooling mastiff, until graduation. The dog Wick, has been sick and his medication requires going out for walks often. Overwhelmed with the untrained huge dog, Mason having missed sleep and work happens to bump into Tess a dog walker coming out of his apartment elevator. Overworked Tess, is a dog walker while working at a vets, and taking online classes. When Mason ups his offer to 400.00 a day to dog sit Wick so he can get back to work. Both Mason and Tess have baggage and relationships just isn’t for them. Pretty Woman with a dog twist. As mentioned at the beginning, very cute and thoughtful.

This was a fun, sweet, sexy read. Tess is a strong woman who refuses to let her walls down due to her past. When she meets, Mason, she will take care of his sister's mastiff for him, but that is all. Mason isn't one to give up and wants more from Tess. This was a good read.

Heartbreaker by Inara Scott was a middle of the road read for me. It started out as such a sweet read with plenty of potential but quickly lost traction shortly after startup. I loved the connection between Mason and Tess...their beginning chemistry was very enjoyable. As the story went along though, I found that I liked Tess less and less as her personality seemed to bounce around way too much for my liking. The same could be said for the sizzle that fizzled between Mason and Tess as the story progressed. Then top that off with the inconsistent flow and ebb of the story and I just wasn’t feeling it.

Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.

Well the story kept me flipping through the pages waiting to see what would happen next.
The storyline is kinda cute and I had good time while reading, maybe because lately I like to read easy, feel good romances with a happy ending and this is one of those books.
I am looking forward of reading other books by this author.

Just look at that dog on the cover! I couldn't resist requesting a copy of this and was lucky enough to be given a copy of it, via NetGalley. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.

The main characters in this story are total contrasts in their upbringing and achievements to date. He's Mason Coleman who has been brought up as part of a caring family, aced his way through school and life in general though not in personal romance. Meanwhile Tess Paplion was dragged around by her mother, rarely staying in one school long enough to make friends and finally dropping out without finishing. Now, however, she's determinedly independent, working multiple jobs to ensure she doesn't run up any debts and living in her late grandmother's house which is in dire need of repairs and upgrades. She's also studying like mad and has almost finished an online college degree.

The two are brought together when Mason's sister leaves her invalid 200 pound Mastiff for him to care . . . . initially he rarely sits obediently like the one on the cover- unless he really wants to! The dog is definitely in charge and Mason is really struggling when he spots Tess walking dogs for one of his neighbours. He offers to pay her to dog sit to let him return to work and, eventually, she agrees - especially when she can do her college work and still do some of her other jobs, too. Now the fact that the two are attracted to each other is something both strive to resist but will love find a way to bring them together? He doesn't do commitment, she doesn't trust or want to rely on anyone - can they change each other?

This is a heartwarming romance with great canine as well as human characters. Mind you, there's also some self opinionated entrepreneurs and one dog that really need some training! There are some fun, laugh out loud incidents, lots of love and healing in this story which I really enjoyed reading and have no hesitation in recommending to anyone who enjoys their romance with a strong man learning to open his heart to romance by a feisty, independent lady who had no intention of ever letting him into her own heart - but did!

I wonder how I was able to finish the book. The only thing I loved about it was the cover since I have a thing for animals in a book. I can't say that either main character was likable and I couldn't stand Tess. I felt like she changed personalities halfway through the book and I wasn't a big fan of hers I couldn't understand her, let alone relate to her in some way and as pages were turned I was liking her less and less. I was more drawn to the secondary characters and particularly Nate and Cece. If they get a book I am gonna read it. I hope their book won't be like this one. The premise was good but the execution was lacking and I wasn't really a fan of the book. I thought 3 times to DNF it and I kept reading just because I had to write a review for it. The end wasn't redeeming and I closed the book being dissatisfied.

Tess is trying to overcome all her past mistakes by working all the jobs she can whilst finishing her education on-line. She is using her natural ability with animals to run a dog walking service resulting in an encounter with Mason who is desperate for someone to take his huge problem off his hands – the dog his sister has dumped with him. Tess is determined not to repeat her mistakes which means keeping Mason at arms length however she is feeling whereas Mason is puzzled to find that he doesn’t want to chase her out of his life. Fun story, looks as if the series is going to be worth reading. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you NetGalley for the copy of Heartbreak by Inara Scott that I read and reviewed.
This was a really sweet romance book. I really enjoyed Tess and Mason’s story. It was a true story of how opposites attract and it drew me right in. It also helped that they atraction between then sizzled off the pages of the book. I can’t wait to see what happens to Mason’s friend when they fall in love in the books in the rest of the series.
If you are looking for a book with some humor, a great paring of a couple who need to realize what they have this is an excellent read for you.
I am giving Heartbreaker five out of five stars

New to Me Author Success!
Inara Scott is a completely new to me author that I’m so glad I tried! Heartbreaker is the first book in her Bad Angels series and it features a gifted businessman who’s know for his pretty face and ability to schmooze and a tough as nails dog whisper trying to put herself through school.
I absolutely loved the dynamics between the three business partners, the Bad Angels, it was very reminiscent of two of my favorite authors, Kate Meader and Lauren Layne. Mason and Tess were also wonderfully developed and just flawed enough to keep me interested without making me want to smack them. Watching them realize that they liked each other, wanted each other, and finally loved each other was so fun. I also adored the doggie characters! Can’t wait for more...like maybe Nate and CeeCee and Connor and Zoe!

A Feel-Good Novel!

Heartbreaker is the first book in Inara Scott’s Bad Angels series and it was a fun, easy to read rom-com that left me smiling and feeling good.

Mason has a reputation of being a playboy but he is a hardworking venture capitalist. Tess is a vet student who is dog walking part time to support herself.
When Mason’s sister leaves her untrained mastiff Wick with Mason so she doesn’t get kicked out of her home, he desperately needs a dog-sitter. He conveniently meets Tess in his elevator and hires her on the spot to take care of Wick from 8am to 8pm. Although there is an obvious attraction between the humans, Tess is reluctant to commit to anyone, and Mason thinks he just wants something casual. It was fun to watch Tess start to trust Mason after having been hurt and betrayed by so many before. And watching Mason realize that Tess got under his skin and into his heart was so satisfying. I can’t wait for the next book in this series!

Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of this book and I am providing my honest review.

3.5 solid stars.
This was a new-to-author and I quite enjoyed this book. The book shows the love story between Mason - a high-level capital investment executive - and Tess - a do-it-all dog walker with a tragic past.
What I liked about this book:
- the pace and the flow of the book works
- it's not an insta-love book. They might be attracted to each other from the start, but the author takes time to develop their relationship from attraction to love, step by step
- the backgrounds of both of them help explain why they make the decision they make but there's also time for character growth with both parties
- lack of unnecessary drama or convoluted plot twists
- interesting secondary characters that I'm really interested to know more about
- I'm not really a dog person but all the animals featured in the book were endearing

What could have been better:
- I'd love for Tess to work on some of her own shortcomings and develop further, but that is only a matter of personal taste.

I'll definitely be reading more from this authos
*I was given an ARC copy on NetGalley*

Bad Angels #1, The real reason I picked this book... the dog. How could I say no to that face! I love mastiffs, I wish I could have one. New author for me and usually not much for a billionaire romance but I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It is a opposites attract/rags to riches romance which I enjoyed. Third person POV that switches focus from Mason to Tess so you get both sides of the story.

Tess came from a rough environment with a flaky mother who was constantly on the lookout for a new boyfriend or a new high. After making some poor life decisions as a teenager Tess moved in with her grandmother and started to take care of her. Now at the age of 26 she's finally getting her life in order she got her GED and is taking online college courses while working three jobs.

Mason came from a loving home and succeeded at everything he did, except relationships. Good grades in high school, football star, went to Harvard and MIT and earned billions in investing in other people. His relationships on the other hand don't seem to last after the fourth date. Mason's sister, Alli, guilts him into taking care of her 200lbs mastiff, Wick, who just had surgery and is taking medication that's makes him pee, a lot. Unable to give the dog the constant supervision he needs Mason hires a dogsitter. Seeing how adept Tess is with other dogs he begs her to take this job and even offers an outrageous sum of money for her.

Mason is completely taken with Tess, he's never met anyone like her before. She's a hard worker, great with animals, she calls him out whenever he starts flirting, she doesn't want anything from him except to work and get paid, and underneath her ill fitting baggy clothes he knows she's beautiful inside and out. Mason understands that Tess is as afraid of relationships as he is and after they start their non-relationship he's constantly worried that she'll bolt. Tess' past has taught her not to rely on anyone and she's afraid to let her guard down with Mason because his track record with staying with a woman is practically nil she's afraid he'll leave.

Overall, it was an entertaining read. I loved seeing their relationship grow into something more despite all the avoidance in communication with each other when it came to the really important stuff. The chemistry was great, it was obvious from the moment they set their eyes on each other it was going to be hot. I liked the side characters as well, and establishing the friendship and how deep it goes between Mason and the other Bad Angels and Tess and Cece. I look forward to the rest of the series.
