Excellent and very well done serial killer thriller. I loved it. Definitely a great and well thought out story, loved the points of view and loved the surprises including that ending!!

Great thriller that was written intelligently with an additional focus on the brain development and psychology of a psychopath.

The book starts at the wall where Isla finds the bodies after a terrible murder that shapes her life choices to try and understand what can drive a person to commit such a crime.

A week paced book with developed characters, and effort in being well written, this is a step above the usual thrillers

Intriguing, dark thriller set on Hadrian’s Wall. Well paced, with rounded characters, reminiscent of Val MacDermid’s crime books. A small village still bears the scars of The Killer On The Wall murders, scars that are going to be reopened when the Killer begins again. But how can he, when police and psychologists are so sure he is locked away for his crimes?
It suffers a little from slightly too much twisting of plot, particularly near the end and an interesting side plot about Nature V Nurture in psychothapy meanders off too soon, but it’s entertaining enough for a few evenings read and I hope to see the main female characters in sequels perhaps.

4 Solid Stars
This was my first book by Emma Kavanagh and it was a surprisingly good read. An intriguing, addictive, crime mystery with some surprising twists and turns. It was a little slow moving at the beginning but it soon gain some speed and it was truly hard to put down at times. There were few times I thought I got the whole thing figured out to find out that I was wrong on all my guesses. I am a true sucker for a small town crime novels and this book did not disappoint. It hit all the right criteria for a good mystery novel, with strong main characters, good writing style, and some unexpected developments in the story. I will definitely read other books by this author and I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a small town, crime mystery genre.

Thank you NetGalley, Kensington Books, and the author, Emma Kavanagh, for giving me an opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I Am Watching is a good book with a great ending....
Isla Bell found the first bodies, years ago. Her father found the serial killer, Heath McGowan, who was responsible. Now, years later, Isla is a professor of criminology, studying the brains of serial killers. Heath takes part in the study, after years of refusing to speak about his crimes.
But more bodies start turning up. Is Heath guiding someone from the inside? A copycat killer? Isla needs to find out the truth once and for all.

I love a good thriller that keeps you guessing until the final pages! Isla has been obsessed with Heath, a serial killer behind bars who was accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend as well as several others (including injuring the man she eventually married). Twenty years later she is a scientist studying the MRI's of psychopaths to discover anomalies in the brain that may account for their deviant behavior. But when the murders begin again, one must question, "Is it a copycat, an accomplice, or do they have the wrong man in jail"? Told from several points of view, the novel unfolds slowly as evidence piles up and the investigations start and stall. Don't even attempt to speculate as the ending is so satisfying you won't even mind that you didn't guess the answer!

Isla Bell was only 15 years old when she discovered the bodies of three people propped up and staged against Hadrian's Wall in her small hometown of Briganton. Roll on 20 years and Isla is happily married to the only survivor at the hands of the serial killer, Ramsay..... with the serial killer, Heath McGowan behind bars and tight lipped all these years about why. Isla has made it her life mission to try and get into the minds of serial killers, literally running a study and carrying out MRIs on some of the most prolific serial killers with Heath McGowan the last of the study. When the body of a woman is found up at Hadrian's Wall, the town falls into the fear again, is it a copycat killer?

A story based on my favourite genres containing both serial killers and psychologically testing, a race to the truth, a couple of red herrings along the way which is the reason I didn't figure out the WHO!!! Great twist.... definitely recommend it for anyone who likes these kind of genres.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Kensington for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

A very well written, plot driven book. Started on the slow side, but it doesn’t take too long until the reader is racing through the pages. A twisting ride that has you guessing and then guessing again until the very end. A solid police procedural/mystery that will find you forgetting everything around you until the last page is turned.

Did Heath do it? Isla, who found the bodies, is now a professor of psychology and she's included him a study about killers. Her father was the detective who identified, pursued, and arrested him and her husband was the only one of his victims who lived. Maybe a little too close to the subject? Frankly, if I were Isla, while I'd want answers, I'd also think about what continues to tie me to these three murders. There are secrets and lies and some twists. This does start slowly but it picks up. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. For fans of the genre.

Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Books for sharing the ARC of this novel. It was pretty good, but formulaic if you read many thriller/detective/serial killer type novels. But I enjoyed it. I didn’t figure out the ending in advance and that’s always a plus. I recommend this for fans of these genres.

Slow, dull and lacking depth
I had a very hard time getting into this book at all. There were to many charters with a role but virtually no character development. I had no attachment to any of the characters. The storyline played out incredibly slow with very minimal action aside from the very brief moments of finding a body but even that was rather uneventful and not very detailed. I did not find the book overly suspenseful. The ending was somewhat predictable as well. At best I can say the book was mediocre. I feel this author needs to use less idle chit chat and far more detail during the actual murders. Also have a few strongly developed characters goes a lot further than having 10 or so random players in the game. I also found the switching narrative from one character to the other was choppy and took away from the story.
This book lacked any depth at all. I wouldn’t recommend this one.

Three bodies are sitting propped up against the Hadrian wall and on closer inspection by Isla; she realizes they are all dead. This day changed the small town village forever, and it shaped the course of Isla’s life. Twenty years later and she is married to the only survivor of the serial killer that changed her life and she is a professor of criminal psychology, studying the brains of serial killers. She is trying to find the answer to the question that has been driving her crazy since that day twenty years ago – why did he do it? At last, Isla has a chance to study the very killer that changed her life, although everyone in her life warns her against it. Soon after, another body is found on the wall and the town is once again turned upside down.

I loved the way that this book begins – it starts right off with a bang and you can really picture what Isla has run into and really imagine how terrified she is. I found the chapters to be a bit on the long side, but I really enjoyed that they went back and forth between the different main characters in the novel and allowed us to see a bit more into the crime. I was really into this novel and didn’t want to put it down because I needed to know who was next and who the murderer really was. I had so many ideas about who the killer could be and this novel gives you tons of false leads that make you sure you know what’s going to happen next. But it’s not that easy in this novel, Kavanagh really tricks you into a false sense of security in the ending of this novel and I was pleasantly surprised by the big reveal! I loved the atmosphere of the small town that has seen too much tragedy lately and I enjoyed that no one was safe from the killer. I also enjoyed that there was more than one twist that leads to the grand finale!

Out now!

I Am Watching by Emma Kavanagh was a quick read for me. It started off slow but definitely picked up the pace towards the end. I picked the ending early on even though the author tried to send us on another path. I struggled with the story at times but overall it was an enjoyable read.

Isla Bell was a child when she found 3 dead bodies lined up along Hadrian Wall. Her father captured the killer on the wall a story he was called Heath McGowan. Now 20 years later she is a professor in criminal psychology specialising in the study of the brain of killers and psychopaths. Heath McGowan has agreed to speak with her and help her with her quest to find out why they do it. But then the bodies start appearing again.. is there a copycat out there or did her Dad get the wrong guy?

Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased.

This wasn't the book for me or I've read too many thriller/mystery genre.
There were too many povs used (around 3, but it was 2 too many imo) and the changes were too abrupt. I'm interested in Isla's, the other two? Not so much.
Tittle chapters needed fixes. Using 'title - character name/pov' didn't work for me.
It wasn't a procedural (which I dislike), it wasn't a mystery either?
The flashbacks weren't weaved seamlessly and it wasn't engaging enough for me.

Thank you for the publisher & author for the digital ARC!

A bit too much predictability for a lot of the book. I found it to just be okay, though the characters were well-crafted. The writing was fine, but it didn't grab my attention as much as I'd hoped.

This was an average read. Was well written but It didn’t keep my attention. The story was good and I finished it just to find out who the killer was. A prettt average read.

This book went on some extra twists I wasn’t expecting. I raced through the second half to see who the killer was. It was as a good enough afternoon

3.5 rounded up

I Am Watching is a brilliantly twisted thriller. It grips you on the first page and does not let go until the final page.

When I read the first page of the book, it felt extremely familiar to me. I then realised that this book is actually a re-issue with the name changed. Originally it was called "The Killer on the Wall" published 20th April, 2017. The only difference was the following words were extra on the first page: July 22, 1996 and Fifteen-year-old. So instead of reading a book that I've already read all over again and reviewing it, I'll just use my previous review.

This book was a bit predictable for my liking and even though it was quite well written I was honestly not hooked on to it. The setting of the book was really nice and the characters were well created. Honestly, in my opinion, if the book hadn't been predictable then it would have been a really wonderful page turner and a brilliant book. Three stars from me.
