The bonkers adventures of the McKilligan sisters continue in the second book of Laurenston’s Honey Badger Chronicles. Stevie, the baby sister of the chaotic trio and a musical and scientific prodigy, is struggling. Her meds aren’t working to control her panic disorder anymore, her good-for-nothing father and her dangerous uncles seem headed toward a confrontation, and at the same time The Group needs her help to figure out who is targeting shifter hybrids.

Shen Li doesn’t let a lot rile him. His seemingly infinite patience makes him the ideal bodyguard for Stevie’s good friend, the utterly obnoxious but undeniably talented Kyle Jean-Louis Parker. He is used to fielding unreasonable demands, and keeping the little whelp from getting killed on a regular basis, but when Stevie gets drawn into a dangerous plot, his easy-going nature might not be enough to keep them all safe.

In a Badger Way is more romancey than Hot and Badgered but remains strongly focused on Charlie, Max and Stevie. Their relationships and history remain at the center of the story. Laurenston gives as much focus to Charlie and Max starting therapy and learning let go of some of their overprotective reactions to threats against Stevie as it does to Shen and Stevie’s relationship. Like all Laurenston books, this story is filled with 500% more named and interrelated characters than most other books, and has at least 3 different plotlines going at the same time. There is over-the-top violence, madcap hijinks and crass jokes a plenty.

The depictions of mental illness, depression and panic attacks in these books are far from respectful but at the same time also taken very seriously. Stevie's panic attacks might be portrayed in an ridiculous way, yet the fact that people have reactions and feelings they can’t always control is treated as normal, as is looking for help.

I really enjoyed that Shen and Stevie’s dynamics. He is no pushover with Stevie, but at the same time so different from her overbearing sisters that Stevie can trust him to be a partner that is not out to control or overprotect her. I also loved that Laurenston does not shy away from having former leads looks utterly ridiculous outside their books. It just such a refreshing thing to see. They absolutely have their HEAs but that doesn’t mean they all get along with each other or are always right. Can’t wait to see what Max’s book is like and who she will get paired up with.

In a Badger Way can be summed up in three words: hilarious, adorable, and action-y!

The humor is always a constant with Shelly Laurenston and I swear there were parts I thought I was going to die laughing at!

I love, love, love all aspects of Shen and Stevie's relationship - especially the way Stevie could not see past Shen's adorable panda-ness to his lethalness. She just decided they were dating and that was it!

The great thing about this book is that the plot moved along. There was enough action in the story to keep the story moving, but not so much that it became boring and took away from the romance. I think this is one of the few stories I've read that have had a perfectly balanced action and romance relationship.

4 Physics Stars

I got a snippet/sneak peek and just needed more so it only got 3 stars. But getting the whole Stevie & Shen experience was a whole lot of fun.

Stevie Mackilligan is slightly unhinged, scared of bears has bouts of depression but she is a prodigy of science and of music. And with her sisters she is unstoppable. But hybrids are going missing and being experimented on and it is time for her to step up.

Shen got into the madness of the MacKilligan sisters while protecting another prodigy. He is the most laid back person ever but then again he is a panda, so cute but once you get them wild you better watch out.

I love that the author goes out of the realm of possibilities when it comes to shifters very few branch out when it comes to involving more than cats and wolves. And here it is no different. A panda, I mean how frigging cute is that and a tiger badger.

This is one crazy ass book with a lot of banter and all in all bloody hilarious. I got to say though that sometimes it was just a tad too much with the mayhem going on just gotta roll with it though.
If you want a pick me up book then this is for you, you got to read a book one though to get the full experience.
Max the crazy knife wheeling Asian MacKilligan sister is next.

I love Shelly Laurentson's The Pride series and was super excited when she started this offshoot in The Honey Badger Chronicles. The first novel was hilarious. I couldn't wait to get my hands on the next book, In A Badger Way. Stevie has to be one of my favorite characters. She's a freaking genuis. Gotta love a smart female heroine! She totally doesn't have her sh$t together, though, which is fun to watch.

I liked Shen as well, but I did feel he wasn't the same character we've seen in previous novels. What happened to the guy who wanted to date crazy girls because crazy is hot? He's a bit flat as a character.

Overall, I enjoyed the novel, but I feel the story was more paranormal than romance. I missed the 'feel' moments. And you really need to remember the first book in the series to get what's happening in this one. The storyline is not only continuous but Laurentson hasn't repeated much information.

I recommend to paranormal romance lovers who don't mind the romance falling to the background.

More honey badgers! That should honestly be the tag line for this book, because anyone who glimpsed the MacKilligan sisters in Hot and Badgered should pretty much know what that means: lots of fighting and violent but devoted sisterly love. This book is about Stevie MacKilligan. Stevie is the genius in the family, the one who is both a world class scientist and a world class musician (so far). She also has some pretty severe anxiety problems and turns into a giant raving hybrid monster when provoked. You know, as you do. There are some more fishy things happening to hybrid shifters in the world, and Stevie has to help put a stop to it. Luckily, she has Shen to help her. Shen is a panda shifter who likes his life filled with quiet and all the bamboo he can eat. The more time he spends with Stevie, though, the more he realizes he may be ok with a little disruption.Stevie isn’t my favorite MacKilligan sister. I wasn’t that interested in her in the first book, and I still wasn’t that interested in her after her own book. It’s not that I didn’t like her, but I did think she was a bit immature. Her romance with Shen didn’t have much substance to it either. Laurenston’s books do share focus between plot and romance in largely equal measures, and this book follows that pattern. The problem was, I didn’t really see a huge connection between Stevie and Shen. Shen seemed too old, too mature for Stevie, and I didn’t really see where they could go by the end.The plot, though, was fun. The villain is pretty cartoon evil, and it’s always fun to see Laurenston’s villains get their comeuppance. I really enjoyed Stevie’s friendship with Kyle, too. He’s another prodigy, and a very obnoxious one at that, but he actually had some personal growth in this book. He and Stevie were odd friends but they somehow worked, and it was fun to read about. I also loved seeing more of the MacKilligan sisters and glimpses of past couples from Laurenston’s other series. There is a lot of talk about mental health, because Stevie has some serious issues. The book makes a big deal about how she gets treatment, both therapy and medication. Even her sisters seek some treatment in this book, and that's not something you normally see in a wacky paranormal romance. It normalizes seeking help, which I like. If those topics are triggering for you, though, you may want to steer clear of the Honey Badger books.Even my least favorite Laurenston books, however, are always a good time. I’ll just keep waiting anxiously for the next book.Grade: 3.5 out of 5

Laurenston didn't disappoint in this amazingly imaginative and outlandishly funny addition to the Honey Badger series. In this book, it features middle MacKilligan sister Stevie and Shen, a Panda shifter that works as a bodyguard, and before he realizes it, he’s swept off his feet by this unusual hybrid and the chaos left in her wake. The author did an amazing job with Stevie and she has hooked me, line and sinker for Max’s story next.

The honey badgers are back ! The MacKilligan sisters continue the fun and this book picks up a couple of weeks after Hot and Badgered ends. This is Stevie’s story and her Panda Shen. A lot of past characters from the Pride series show up and it’s always fun when Blayne is around. And Kyle! The whole book is fun, snarky humor that SL is known for. I enjoy reading every book she writes. I know I will get lots of laugh out loud moments. They’re is drama with the families and fun shifter politics that keeps you entertained till the end. I never skim through the pages, you don’t want to miss anything! Highly recommend and can’t wait for the next one. Hopefully it’s Max’s turn. That should be hilarious!!

The second book in MS Laurenston Honey badger series. The book was well written and I could not put it down. I enjoyed how the series dealt with real issue while keeping it light and show the human issue of mental illness. I cant wait for the next book in the series.

I was looking forward to this installment in the series, and maybe I built it up in my head because of that, but it wasn't my favorite one in the series. I loved the Panda/honey badger combo and the laugh out loud moments. The storyline was great and the characters were Fab as usual, but maybe the cast was too big? I found it kind if difficult to keep them all sorted in my head - who's with white and their back stories etc. Maybe a previously on or a charter summary list might help?
I did enjoy the book very much, it just wasn't my favorite one.

In a Badger Way is a fun silly read that entertains from start to finish.

We get a sweet and cuddly Panda shifter hero (Shen) and a slightly psycho Badger hybrid heroine (Stevie). Both characters are really likable and well written. I enjoyed Shen's constant crunching and Stevie's phobias and anxiety. I felt like the characters belong together and enjoyed their road to happily ever after.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance with a supernatural comedic theme.

I was among those lucky enough to receive an advanced reader’s copy of In a Badger Way prior to release in order to provide a fair and honest review. But having to say goodbye to Zeus put the brakes on life for a bit. Clinical depression is a thing and I’m working on it. Now here I am, ready to dish about the latest from Shelly Laurenston, the queen of my shifter-loving heart. Now, y’all. I have so many notes in this book, you might want to go fix yourself some tea and get yourself some place comfortable before you read on. Go on. I'll wait.

The MacKilligan sisters are back and as wild and unpredictable as ever in In a Badger Way. Our couple for this instalment of the Honey Badger Chronicles is Shen Li and Stevie MacKilligan. Shen is a Giant Panda shifter and Stevie is a Honey Badger-Tiger hybrid shifter. Shen is actually Vic Barinov's business partner but he's currently employed as bodyguard to Jackal shifter, Kyle Jean-Louis Parker, Stevie's old friend and fellow prodigy. Oh, what a tangled web Shelly Laurenston weaves for us, right? Somewhere along the way, Stevie gets it into her mind that she likes Shen and they'd be good together. We follow Stevie as she corrals bamboo-obsessed Shen into a happily ever after all while dealing with the antics of her own unique hybrid genetics, all of the MacKilligan family drama, and some under-the-radar sleuthing for The Group. The level of crazy is through the roof with this one, y’all.
I adore Stevie, she's a multi-disciplined prodigy with an extreme panic disorder and an abnormal shift as a honey badger-Siberian tiger hybrid. Her responses to her triggers are varied but they’re always extreme. Whether it be burrowing away from the situation through walls and floors or shifting and making toys out of people, I’m totally here for that, just let me pop some popcorn. Somewhere along the way, Stevie decides that Shen is the one for her and, come hell or high water, that Giant Panda is going to live happily ever after with her. And it’s hilarious because Shen Li is a bear and Stevie is terrified of bears but not Shen. Never Shen. Shen is the yin to her yang and that dude is all hers.
Something I want to make note of here is that we have good mental health care representation in this book. In this crazy-arsed book with hijinks and antics that make you cackle, you will also find Stevie heading to a psychiatrist and Stevie makes a point of saying
“Medication should never be given without therapy…and if you ever go to a doctor who tries to tell you otherwise…..get another doctor.”
THIS DESERVES SO MUCH ATTENTION! Not only is Stevie actively seeking therapy, but she's making a point to explain that you shouldn't be taking medications for your head without talking with a therapist - and if your doctor is just handing you pills and seeing you to the door, you should get another one. This should be shouted from rooftops with the amount of doctors I've seen in my nearly thirty years of life and the percentage of them that were of the "here's your hat, what's your hurry variety" is proof of that. 2000 bonus points for this!
Among the hundred different things that happen in this book, I have to tell you that Blayne Thorpe-Novikov is back and she is still my favourite hyperkinetic hybrid wolf-wild dog. This brilliant woman continues to prove her father right by hugging some random arsed shifter in someone else’s home and is surprised that it doesn’t turn out to be cotton candy and rainbows. I love Blayne.
Also among our revisiting characters are the Jean-Louis Parkers, Dr Irene Conridge, and Gwen - I’ve got to let y’all find out some for yourselves, right? If you’ve not read a Shelly Laurenston Pride world book before, you’re sure to find yourself falling in love with them through this book as Ms Laurenston picked some of her best characters to pop in for a visit in this new branch’s latest.
I know not everybody adores random violence in their humour, but Ms Laurenston brings will make you laugh with the absurdity of her characters’ antics. People can talk all they want about how they need their paranormal romance/urban fantasy books to be believable, but y'all. We are reading about human beings transforming themselves into another species and maintaining their sentience. What part of that is believable? No, really. I'll wait for that answer because I have a feeling it'd be more entertaining/worrisome to hear than my schizophrenic brother when he has an episode.
While you can technically read In a Badger Way as a standalone novel, I’d suggest you don’t as it picks up where Hot & Badgered leaves off. If I’m being honest, I’d suggest reading from the very beginning for all the subtext and character info. But most folks don’t have that amount of patience, granted they usually finish the one book they choose and decide to do just that but stubborn is as stubborn does. I did it that way too at first. Blayne’s book was my first, but it definitely was not my last, obviously.
Now, I have a bloody nose from my lovely allergies and I'm going wrap things up here so I can go stick some tampons up my nose. judge me. Overall, I'm giving In a Badger Way 5 stars because this made me laugh when I wanted to crawl into a hole and die.

I couldn't help but laugh out loud as I was reading this. I love bear shifters and I think this is the first panda shifter book I've ever read. I also loved the MacKilligan family dynamics. Who doesn't want to kill their relatives every now and then? An added bonus was the appearance of maybe my favorite Laurenston heroine: Dr. Irene Conridge. If you haven't read her novella, you are missing out.

I do wish there was a little more romance in the books and that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. But I love this series and can't wait for Stevie's story!

Up front I'd like to say that Shelly Laurenston writes some of the best shape shifter books on the market. She writes with humor and most often passion. This book, part of the Honey Badger series, is not a stand alone. There is too much back story on the series, and this is only book2! I thought the characters in this book were not as compelling as I would have liked. Perhaps it was the age difference that the characters kept mentioning. I just didnt feel the urgency for their happily ever after. The story itself is good, the dialogue absolutely stellar, but the romance left me a little disappointed. I think the series is promising, maybe this one just wasnt for me.
I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation.

I really love all of Shelly Laurenston’s paranormal romances because of the wonderful female characters and In A Badger’s Way continues that great theme. There is great world building, funny characters, extreme violence and a lot of cute moments between Shen and Stevie. This is the second book in the Honey Badger Chronicles about honey badger sisters who absolutely abhors their father but he manages to ruin their lives over and over again. There is an overarching plot so its not really recommended to be read as a standalone and this book manages to converge on all Ms. Laurenston’s previous shifter series so it could be confusing for someone who might not be familiar with her other books. But its still a great read and it will definitely suck you down the rabbit hole of these fantastic sisters.

In a Badger Way could be read alone, as I did. But I wish I read Hot and Badgered first.

The story line was interesting, defiantly extreme sometimes..but in a good way. There was violence, but didn't take away from the romance of the book.

The romance is not super in your face from the beginning, it is slower. Stevie and Shen started dating, They are great together with a nice chemistry, that compliment each other. They are a perfect match. Stevie is neurotic and Shen is as calm as can be.

A fantastic romance novel, I highly suggest

I voluntarily read an advanced preview 1st chapter copy of this book and I loved it!

I need more ASAP, I had to laugh at myself when I got to the end of the chapter because I kept swiping to get to the next page....I was so into it I forgot that I only had one chapter!

Update 04/01/2019

I'm not sure what happened here. I do know that it took me over a month to read In a Badger Way. That saddens me. Shelly Laurenston's books are full of humor and wit. This one confused me. I was left wondering why far too many times. I'm also wondering where my numerous laugh out loud moment were.

There is so much going on. Some of it has carried over from Hot and Badgered. There is a great deal that will carry over into Max's book. Hopefully there will be a solid wrap up. From the first book we have the dead beat thieving sperm donor, the evil twins, and the murderous cousin. All of which is still going on here. The new and present drama comes in the form of dead hybrids, mad scientist ex boyfriend, dead relative so all the MacKilligan's get together for a funeral, and someone finally pushes the issue hard enough that the MacKilligan sisters get therapy and meds.

Shen and Stevie bring the romance to the pages. They're opposites which is something that I'm okay with. It was cute the way Shen didn't see their relationship turning into something more while the rest of the characters did. He's pretty easy going. He is so lackadaisical that I'm not sure if he would have fought Stevie on their relationship even if he wasn't interested. He felt like a secondary character in his own book.

This author never disappoints, kick ass heroines (but they all have their flaws so I can always relate), men who are strong but not too bossy, and a story that keeps you gripped all of the way through. I also love the sibling relationship in the badger series, I can definitely relate. I can't recommend this book enough

I have no idea what this book is I started reading. It’s a complete shamozzle. Yes I get that it’s book 2 in a series but I should still be able to get some sense of what’s going on- except I have none.
.
In the 4 chapters I’ve read I think I’ve been introduced to over 20 characters that I just can’t keep track of. I’m not interested in the 2 main characters either that’s for sure. The plot line? I have no idea what’s happening there either and you know what- I really don’t want to?
.
I know that SL has a very distinct writing voice and I love it but this book seemed second rate for her. Even books in a series I believe should be able to be read as stand alone and this book really can’t. Unfortunately I don’t want to give up any more of my time to this book than I already have.

Stevie has issues. Her issues have issues. But it doesn’t matter because she also has sisters and Shen. However does Shen know he is hers?
In the Badger Way is second in Shelly Laurenston’s The Honey Badger Chronicles series. I enjoyed that Ms. Laurenston decided Shen needed more crazy in his life. He is so laid back and Stevie is so not. He doesn’t quite understand how Stevie has made her way into his pants and his heart. I thought it was so adorable that he thought he had a say. And for all her crazy, Stevie is a force of nature. She has decided Shen is hers and makes it so. I love that Ms. Laurenston continues the crazy that permeates this world. I found myself laughing out loud at the antics of Stevie, her sisters and their friends. I also found myself impressed with just how close knit they were. They had each other’s back and I loved seeing how far that protection went. Ms. Laurenston continues to bring the crazy but it always seems so logical.
I found this latest addition to this series to be well written and enjoyable. The sense of community was only surpassed by the sense of fun. I thoroughly enjoyed Stevie and Shen’s tale and cannot wait to see where Ms. Laurenston will take us next.
