I love Shelly Laurenston. This book caused me to laugh out loud a few times. Not a cute giggle but a true gaffaw. I love how Stevie owns her mental issues and understands mental health is as important as physical health. Shen reminds us that pandas are more than cute. The addition of the jackal siblings added a great sense of family. You just have to love Kyle. The story itself is just great. If you want a book you cannot put down and want to reread as soon as you are finished. This is it.

This book was definitely well worth the wait. The dynamic between these sisters is captivating and alluring and extremely entertaining. That coupled with a hot sexy panda shifter and you have one hell of a read. Props to Ms. Laurenston for delivering a highly entertaining and exciting read. Im so excited to see what these girls get into next!

A big thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is part of a series, it may be a tad bit confusing if you are new to the series, but it is worth it!! Keep reading. Thanks book made me giggle and laugh! So jealous of the tenacity, brains and self esteem this crowd has. Shen was soo silly!! What a panda. Lol. For me, this was a great pick me up book. 4 1/2 stars I think most paranormal shifter romance readers will love this book!

Stevie and Chen surprisingly work! On the surface those two couldn't have been more oposite: the genius with the laid back average guy! But we see them work. Unto the story: this start a few months after the event of Hot and Badgered. So the repercussions of what happened is still being dealt with. The thief of millions of the Scottish crimes lord, and the thief managing to lose the money almost immediately after. The jailbreak of the crazy cousin who everyone is afraid of, and the reason is quite apparent, as after a trip to the past, we got back to the present in the midst of a murder. The new antagonist is someone from Stevie past, which gives us some delightful scene with Niles and Irene Van Holtz. Miki makes an appearance when the investigation requires a hacker. While all this was happening a sweet romance was developing between a woman who went after what she wanted, and a at first clueless bewildered man. But Stevie didn't keep the upper end for long before Chen yank it back from her. She didn't stay down for long as soon she was befuddling her new boyfriend. In the last scene Stevie told Chen she see them as permanent when she told him, in her roundabout way, that he gets to decide where they lived, here in the states or back to her old job in Switzerland, in a discussion about whether she would accept a new job offer from the Group. All in all a masterfully woven story with the mismatched quirky cast of characters told in the can't keep my seat am laughing too much style of Shelly Laurenston!

FABULOUS, FABULOUS, FABULOUS.
I don't think there can be many books as addictive and as engaging as this one. Not only that, it has an excellent range of characters and character traits, a lot of heart and a TON of humor, and a uniqueness that makes it nearly impossible to put down.
If you're a reader who appreciates high energy, slightly screwball, and well-written shifter romance that's outside the box, definitely grab this series. (Start with book one!)

No one does quirky, fun, crazy, entertaining characters like Ms Laurenston! I absolutely love her shifters and In a Badger Way didn't disappoint. At some stages my sides positively ached from laughing!
There is a lot going on in this book and as a result I felt Shen and Stevie's romantic plot line was perhaps a little underdeveloped, but honestly the laughter and sheer fun of this book made up for it.

oh it was soooo worth it all the promise of those first few chapters were lived up to in full by the book on release day.

The 2nd book in the authors Honey Badger series, the refresh to the Pride series was everything I have come to expect and love from Shelly Laurenston. This is Stevies story and how this tiger/HB Hybrid concurred the Great Wall of china otherwise known as Shen. With laughter throughout if you loved the original pride family this sub series is right up your alley. The extreme characters that somehow all feel like they are someone we know and love a plot that doesn’t quit and a paranormal twist 5 stars.

What a fantastic ride! Those MacKilligan sisters, plus all the other shifters we love, are giving Shen a ride for his life. How can you not love the calm, loveable Panda? That is…until he’s riled. I admit – I didn’t see him as a romantic lead…heck…I didn’t see Stevie in that role either. Boy was I wrong. They are both kinda goofy, Shen was always the side-kick, Stevie the strange stressed one, and they are now surrounded by mayhem (by that I mean family AND those that would do them harm). Yet each kicked ass and had me heated up with their smoldering romance.

Laurenston is a gifted storyteller. The intensity of the read remains even when nothing momentous is going on. There is no ho-hum, no rest or relaxation in her books….just pure entertainment page after page. I had a blast reading this and I’m thinking Stevie and Shen are my new favorite couple. For now.

I know Shelly Laurenston is a beloved paranormal romance author. She has dedicated fans who have been following her books for years. Unfortunately, I am not one of them. I have read a few of Ms. Laurenston’s books previously, they were some of her older works, and I couldn’t remember why I didn’t continue with the series. Well, now I do.

I spent the majority of IN A BADGER WAY confused. This book does not stand alone in any way. Honestly, I don’t think it would have stood alone even if I had read the first book in the series. There were so many characters and points of view and subplots, my head was spinning.

To start with the positives: I did think parts of this book were funny. I chuckled a few times. Most of the laughing happened at the end where I almost felt like I understood where the book was going and I could get into the book a little bit. Mind you, this was probably 92% into the story.

I also really enjoyed Shen’s character. I mean, come on, he’s a flipping panda shifter everyone wants to cuddle! He was so steady, unassuming, and quietly funny. He really did have the best way to manage other people’s anger. I really wish he was more than a secondary character in the novel, especially because he’s on the cover.

The negatives: While I loved Shen, every single other character in this book felt like a cartoon character. They did and said things that made them seem like Looney Tunes rejects. I couldn’t connect with any of them. The constant yelling, mood swings, and general craziness gave me a headache.

I also really didn’t like the lack of romance, or really, plot in this book. Stevie and Shen spent maybe 15% of the book actually connecting, the rest of the time it was the MacKilligan sister show or any of the 500 secondary characters. Even the main plot, someone killing hybrids, wasn’t really a focus until the last few chapters of the book.

Overall, I am going to chalk this up to Ms. Laurenston’s writing style not working for me. I know she has legions of fans and I am glad they loved this latest installment. I just caution new-to-Shelly readers, do not start with this book! No matter how hot that cover is.

Well, what can I say. This is a great read!!!! Loved it. Ms. Laurenston writes a funny, fast paced, richly developed story that brings me joy. She is one of the most consistent authors who I read. This is really not a bad thing when I know I am going to get extreme enjoyment every time I pick up one of her books.

Her characters are bat shit crazy, but in a most lovable way. Her stories are like a wild ride that has you laughing the entire time. I have enjoyed everything she has written, and that is an extremely rare statement from me for any author. Thank you for this book, can't wait for Max's story.

I am so torn about this book. I love Shelly Laurenston/G.A. Aiken and all of her books. I also really liked this overall story. Unfortunately I did not like the core love story at all. Out of all of her books this is my least liked.

I’ll start with the good. I really liked that we got to see more of the Mackilligan family. They are nuts but entertaining. I also liked that we got to see more of the sisters “abilities”. Max’s glandular defense and giant shifted Stevie were amazing. I also have the feeling that Charlie can shift, and that she is the flip side to Stevie. Because she is the oldest and caretaker her not shifting is psychological. That unlike Stevie when she is panicked or worried her default is to remain human, where she feels most in control. That her need to remain in control because she is constantly on defense is what keeps her from shifting. I wonder if therapy or this new science project of Stevie’s will allow us to see what she turns into.

I also like the way Stevie’s mental illness was handled. It’s an issue, but treated like an illness. No different than if Stevie had a bad diabetic episode or asthma attack. When things go left the reaction is to get her, her meds and into a safe space. I also liked that so many other characters talked about their meds or therapy and it was all discussed as perfectly normal and uneventful.

I enjoyed the new science of hybrid’s arc, and can’t wait to see where that goes. I also liked that the twin cousins were discussed but not the focus of the book. I liked that they are out there plotting but there are other concerns. Finally I loved all the appearances from beloved characters and that so much time was spent with others. There were tons of scenes that the main characters didn’t even appear in and it worked.

So what makes me dislike this book? As I said the love story. This is the first book where the leads were a couple because the leads were supposed to be a couple. There was nothing that happened between these two characters that made them falling in love believable to me. First their age difference. Although their specific ages were never said, it was repeatedly stated by several characters independent of each other that Shen is a lot older than Stevie. So I am guessing that means 10-15 years difference. Although Stevie has spent a lot of time around older people because she is a genius she was sheltered. Nothing about her felt mature. She is the baby of her family and not only is she treated as such but she behaves as such. Shen is not immature so I didn’t see where they meet.

Stevie is a genius. Not just in one field either. She can basically master anything. Shen is totally normal and not in the least intellectual. Stevie switches careers on a whim and is always at the top of whatever her chosen field is. Shen is a bodyguard with no career ambition and all. In fact he had no ambition other than finding a new bamboo stalk to replace the one he finished. Stevie is high strung, Shen is beyond mellow. Stevie’s family is a chaotic, abusive, mess. Shen’s family is tight knit, loving, and grounded. I know there is the saying opposites attract, but in those cases there is something the couple bonds over. Something even small or random that they have in common. These two had nothing. Not even a TV show. A bit later on it was sort of inferred that their commonality was sex. But that was a reach to me. Every shifter female I have read in this series likes it rough and often. There was nothing about Shen’s need for “wild panda sex” that was so out of the norm compared to other shifter couples. He could’ve had sex with any other female character we’ve come across and had the same sexual chemistry.

There wasn’t even an event or conversation between the characters that inspired love. Stevie liked Shen because she likes Pandas. Everyone told Shen he liked Stevie, so he did. Even their love confessions were lame. These two just felt phoned in. As I said there were plenty of scenes where neither character appeared, and it worked because their interactions weren’t interesting.

All that being said I would not recommend skipping this book because there were a lot of events and interactions that were not only fun but important to the series overall. However feel free to skip over the Stevie/Shen couple scenes because they basically have no bearing on the story. I am anxiously awaiting the next book, and I hope Max gets a way better deal in the love department.

This is book two of the Badger series and in this book we are more focused on Shen the loveable Panda shifter bodyguard to Kyle, and Stevie the anxiety and panic driven genius badger/tiger shifter. This book made me giggle, kept it lighthearted but had a good plot. The story kept me going and was entertaining and I am looking forward to book three to see what happens with the Honey Badger's, their father, and their family from across the pond. I think the addition of Uncle Will could add a new touch to their story.

Lastly, it was nice to see all the characters of book one. I know that in book one I felt a little lost with all the characters, but now I know who they are and they are building a story that is keeping me intrigued enough to keep reading (which can be hard to do). Can't wait for the next book!

If you want to have some chuckles, a little romance, a grumbly lovable panda, a slightly crazy badger/tiger, and a great story....pick up this book!

I’m always fairly confident of two things going into a Shelly Laurenston book. One, it will be hilarious. Two, the cast will be so big it will sometimes feel like being spun around until you feel sick and then having your head smacked into a wall. Er, in a good way. Mostly.

Actually, the sheer number of characters coming and going in this book was sometimes a problem for me, especially at the start. It felt like it took ages for the book to settle down because we kept meeting so-and-so and their mate/spouse/significant other/sibling(s)/best friend/best frenemy/worst enemy/colleague/random stranger who happens to be standing next to them. It’s a lot and it’s relentless. But it’s also business as usual for this author, so I took some headache pills and waited for things to settle down.

Which of course they didn’t, because honey badgers. I love these badgers. Or, more specifically, I love these three sister badgers, because Charlie, Max and Stevie are amazing and their dynamic is hilarious. Epically violent too, but mostly hilarious. I wasn’t quite sure how Stevie’s story was going to go, given her many anxiety issues and unusual qualities, but Shen was a great match for her.

Oddly, I wasn’t that interested in the romance. There is some hot sex and they are a good match, but I didn’t really care. I like Shen, I like Stevie, I like them together, but there’s so much else going on that their relationship felt underdeveloped and shoved to one side. Especially because Stevie basically told Shen everything and that made it so – we are dating, you are my boyfriend, we’re in a relationship, I am seducing you, of course we’re in love. Shen resisted at times, but it always eventually worked because of who Stevie is. It wasn’t the best part of the book for me and I probably would have enjoyed it just as much without it. I felt the same about the main suspense plot. Which probably isn’t a good thing, but everything else was so much more fun and interesting. Even the ballet drama felt like it had more depth than the evil science mystery.

I did however love the pandas and the way Shen moves through shifter society, making his point without needing to be over-sized, overloud or oversensitive. The bamboo effect was particularly good. I loved Stevie making friends. I loved the funeral – their dad is awful, but it’s always so funny when he shows up. I also loved the end.

So in standard reviewing terms I probably shouldn’t have enjoyed this. The romance was overshadowed by pretty much everything, the mystery felt weak and under-explored and the longer running plot of the twins and evil Mairi didn’t really go anywhere. BUT that’s because everything else squashed them out of existence. The characters, the relationships, the whole shifter society is crammed with fun and detail and drama and crazy antics that I couldn’t not love it on some level. Sure, I frequently felt like I’d been punched, but I still came back for more. I have absolutely no idea how Max's book is going to turn out – and I can’t wait!

This. Book. This book is why I love Shelly Laurenston. I laughed so hard, everyone around me looked at me like I'd lost my mind. Stevie and Shen are perfect for each other. Add in Stevie's crazy sister's and a slew of other characters and you're guaranteed a great time, er, a great book.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias.

This was absolutely awesome!!!! By far my favorite sister!!! There was a bit of a hiccup for me with the sudden way Stevie and Shen hooked up, but reading on you see this is the dynamics of their relationship. Many LOL parts, and a few absolutely hilarious ones as well.

Stevie McKilligan is a prodigy in science and music, and like many geniuses, has severe anxiety. Shen Li is a bodyguard, but has many hidden layers. Oh--theyre also both shifters. Shen is a panda, the only bear that Stevie--a hybrid honey badger-tiger mix--doesn't have a complete meltdown around. Picking up where the last book left off, Stevie is in the middle of a mess created by her dad and her newly discovered aunts. Shen is there to help Stevie, and before he knows what's happening they are in the middle of a relationship.
Of all of the shifter books by Shelly Laurenston, Stevie is one of my absolute favorites. She is crazy and unstable in the best ways. I love the ongoing drama of the McKilligan family, and absolutely love that the characters from the previous books pop up all over the place. You absolutely need to read the other books in the series first, but you would want to anyways. Cannot wait for the next book--and to re-read this one again!

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
It was a great book !
This is Stevie and Shen's book.
What can you say about the youngest of the three MacKilligan sisters ?
She is a badger tiger shifter, and she is can be startled easily.
( However, it is not a good idea to startle Stevie. You won't like what happens next! Just saying )
Oh, and she is afraid of any or all predators.
It does not help that she lives in a bear shifters only neighborhood.
(She is surrounded by killer bears!)
You can often find her hiding naked inside a cupboard. ( Don't judge! )
Shen is a panda shifter. The gentlest of them all. Just so cute!
His diet consist mainly of bamboo, or anything w/ bamboo, or anything made w/ bamboo.
Although he is a panda "bear" shifter, he is not considered to be a predator by the other shifter.
He is too cute to be a predator.
Once again, trouble has come looking for the MacKilligan sisters.
In true MacKilligan form, they stand their ground ready for a fight.
There is always some kind of government entity that wants to use Stevie for their own purpose.
Can't they just leave Stevie alone.
You know what happens when she is startled or she starts to panic.
This is such a hilarious read.
I love all the books by this author.
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can't wait for the next book in this series.

In a Badger Way
by Shelly Laurenston

This book was as shock! As I started reading my first thought was way to much jumping around. But as I continued and the craziness increased I couldn’t put the book down. At times I was laughing so hard I had tears running down my face.

The crazy yet loving sisters, are dangerous and yet Protectors of each other, and they create mayhem and destruction wherever they go. I loved the dynamics between Charlie, Max and Stevie.

Stevie being a brilliant prodigy in music and science always seem to find herself in dangerous trouble. Her best friend Kyle who is also a child prodigy, he takes everything from Stevie like it’s no big deal. Kyle’s bodyguard Shen seems to help Stevie more than he does Kyle, which is okay because she decided they are boyfriend/girlfriend. And by the way they are shifters, and some are crazy mixed animals!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

Wow - the MacKilligan sisters are back! This book focuses on Stevie and Shen but you also get a whole lot of her sisters, Max and Charlie, along with previous characters that are so much fun - the VanHolts, DeeAnn, Cella, and more.

It really is fun to read this when you have read the previous books and I think that you could read this book without reading the others but it is way easier to get a handle on all the characters when you have previous knowledge of the character's quirks. Like the scene when Blayne hugs Stevie, if you knew what Blayne was like, you can see that is totally a Blayne thing!!

The book is just non-stop action as they are either fixing something after Stevie goes crazy or trying to stop an evil scientist. It is just to great to have a set of sisters that are so under estimated and can really handle any situation! The scene when Stevie is captured and everyone thinks that there is no chance for escape...lol... they don't know Stevie!

The other part that I love is that Stevie can excel at things when you don't expect it! The Wild Dogs night was so so funny!!

I want those evil twins taken care of, hope that is in the next book, and of course their father. He needs to get taken care of, also.
