Magical Mystery More is the fourth in this series and is a great mystery. A reader might want to read the others first so they know more about the characters. Excellent series.

This is the fourth book in the Abracadabra Mystery series, and while you don’t need to read the previous three, I think it would be a good idea. I felt a bit left out as to what had happened to Kailyn’s mother and grandma. And it was touched on a little, how Merlin had come to be in this time period, but I got the feeling his crazy adventures were a bigger part of the previous books.

On the other hand, I’ve read series with lots of books in them, where the author does give background in each book, and I find myself skimming, or skipping it completely. But at least with those books, I have the option to do so, if I want.

I loved the interaction between Kailyn and her familiar, Sashkatu. In a book I recently read pretty much the whole interaction was to feed the cat or have the cat bite her, so it became boring very fast. But not the case with Kailyn and Sashkatu, their interactions were fun, and Pape really gave the cat a personality, and didn’t just use it as filler for the book.

As for the romance with Travis and Kailyn, I don’t know, maybe I’m just getting old and my rose colored glasses are getting too many scratches on them, but please, all authors, just stop the continual fighting. Yes, everyone has arguments in a relationship, but not all relationships have as many fights as they seem to in books. And changing it up, would be great. Have the woman leave the relationship. Find a person who supports her, and doesn’t keep things from her.

But like I said, maybe I’m just getting cranky in my old age, and their relationship won’t bother you at all. It wouldn’t stop be from reading the previous books in the series, and I would be even willing to try book five to see if the relationship gets better, or ends.

The magical powers that Kailyn and her Aunt have, were used well in the book. They helped to enhance, and move the story along. The way the book ended will see even more impressive powers being used in the next book. And the way Pape left it, I can see a lot of possibilities for book five.

As for the mystery, while I knew pretty early on who the killer was, the way Pape had side plots and red herrings was done very well. Even though I knew who did it, the why, was done in a very original way. It makes me want to read the previous books to see if she was as creative in those ones too.

New Camel New York is the home to a main street that any tourist would love to visit. Nestled across from the best candy shop in the county is Abracadabra, a centuries old shop that specializes in nostrums and magick spells for lay people. Lolly, the beloved owner of the candy shop is stunned and horrified when she discovers Ava's body in the back yard of her shop. She immediately seeks help from Kaitlyn. A wise decision, because she is now the lead suspect. Travis and Kailyn embark on another hunt for the truth. This time the search is compromised by the return of one of Travis' early loves. Will he be honest with Kailyn, or with himself?

Merlin is still a wizard with a mission. He is still researching the arcane texts, trying to discover why the magick seems to be fading from this powerful family. His efforts are still a bit skewed by his age, and now by his sleepwalking. A highly amusing scene involves Merlin in a nightshirt, wandering down a street followed by a multitude of cats. The Pied Piper wasn't the only one with this ability it seems. This is a strength of the author, magic is used both to advance the plot and for comedic effect. The spells that are shared in the text could easily be used as affirmations in the real world.

Pape has created an engaging modern protagonist. I look forward to reading more of Kailyn's adventures.

Full disclosure: I received a copy of the work from netgally.com and Kensington in exchange for an unbiased review.

I really enjoyed the character Merlin and how he's represented in this story. The story is interesting although it has many of the standard elements of a cozy mystery, at least the characters are up front about investigating. #MagickalMysteryLore #NetGalley

Another great installment, a little magick and a little murder. Who could possibly believe that sweet maker Lolly could be responsible for the death of her son-in-law's mistress? Could it have been Lolly's distraught daughter or perhaps the ex boyfriend? To add to the mystique, Kailyn will be meeting the parents, dealing with a sleep walking magickal Merlin, and a good deed that doesn't quite go unpunished. Great story line and a very nice progression of Kailyn and Travis's relationship. Even Sashkatu would approve, in a most uppity way, but none the less he would approve.

I received this book via Netgalley and the publisher, in return for an honest review. As the fourth book in the series, this can be read as a stand-alone but there is an expectation that you’re already familiar with the characters. Kailyn Wilde is a modern witch who owns a potion/lotions shops. Her familiar is a cat; her Aunt Tilly tells fortunes. In a previous book, she mistakenly brought Merlin to the future, which adds a comic element when his attempts at magic don’t go as anticipated. Something continues to disrupt their ability to do magic and Merlin’s appearance is one impact. This story is set during the New Camel Day fair in their small upstate New York town, with the discovery of a murdered woman in a nearby shop’s small backyard and the shop owner becomes a prime suspect. Kailyn steps in, to the disapproval of the town’s detective, and the fun begins. I enjoyed this book; it’s a good read and I recommend it.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book.

This was my first foray into this series, and I really did enjoy parts of it. I LOVED Merlin, and i can understand the other character's frustrations with him. There are so many delicious food scenes, and he usually features by eating them all, so I can totally relate. I felt like Merlin in what is essentially a cozy was a great addition, and just added a different dimension to an already fun book.

The only thing I disliked about this one was the slightly heavier undertones that a cozy normally doesn't have. I don't want to give away the ending, but I disliked that as well because it's not your usual whodunnit. I don't know if the rest of the series is like that either, but it makes me hesitant to try them.

I did have fun with the light elements, and I ADORE that cover. Three stars.

I like the characters of Kailyn, Aunt Tilly and Merlin (the real one from King Arthur time). This series deals with magick gone wonky, a murder and what how to deal with someone who was accidentally brought forward in time. They have sort of solved the magick problems (they've learned the why, but not how to fix) in this book. The mystery kept me guessing.

Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Unfortunately I struggled with this book. I loved the premise of the story and the whole idea of it, I just didn't realise it was part of a series and it is glaringly obvious within the first few pages that you are missing a large part of the story if you haven't read the previous books. As I said, I like the idea so I think I will have to read the previous books just out of interest.

Book number four does not disappoint!
I adore the characters of Kailyn, Aunt Tilly and Merlin. What a delightful trio!
This series never lets me down.
An engaging premise with a well written whodunit.
I recommend you read the series in order.
I cannot wait to read the next one!
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

A cozy mystery with a magical twist! The book is part of a series and while it's obvious to a new reader that they're missing some past character development, there's no real barrier to new readers jumping in in the middle of the series.

I always enjoy books that have a hint of magic and clever series is always a pleasure to read.
Who wouldn't love to buy some great products and get a spell on the side.
Merlin adds a lot of laughter to this series and I can't wait go Ser what happens next.

You just cannot beat magic and mystery, and this book has it in spades! Kailyn is once again thrown into a whodunit, with her supporting cast. With Merlin mucking things up, a neighbor as a murder suspect, things are far from calm.
This is an enchanting read from a magical series. If you want something light with a dash of mystery, this is the book for you.

I honestly wanted to like this book more than I actually did. I mean, look at that cover!
The mystery was engaging but felt a bit overstuffed.
I really did like the parts with Merlin and the way the book dealt with the concept of magick.

This paranormal mystery series by Sharon Pape is alot of fun. I've read them all and am partial to Aunt Tilly and Merlin. There's just enough mystery and plenty of laughs to keep me coming back for the next book. Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Books for another great ARC.

This is one of my favorite series and this book was a lot of fun to read as the other installment.
The plot is bit more complex than usual with a somewhat darker tone.
It was great to meet again the cast of quirky characters, both human and feline, and see what was going on in their life.
I loved Merlin sleepwalking and this book made me laugh out loud more than once.
The mystery was very good and it kept me guessing till the end.
A very enjoyable and entertaining book.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to Kensington Books and Netgalley for this ARC
