I am glad I made the choice to read the white hot kiss trilogy before reading storm and fury because it gave me a greater appreciation for the characters. Jennifer is amazing at writing books that you can't put down. I love Trinity because she knew how to stand up for herself and for the people she cares about. Zayne is still not my favorite love interest but I have respect for him. And I love peanut. Can't wait to see more of him in the next book

JL Armentrout does it again !!!! The romance was swoony, the paranormal fantasy was exciting, and I adored seeing the rep. for a character who is losing their sight. Can’t wait to continue with the series.

I know that's a low amount of reading, but I can already tell that this book isn't for me despite only going in about 12%. It's not likely to improve. Storm and Fury reads like it's a book out of time, stepping proudly from the YA trends of 2010-2012 but somehow failing to realize the year is 2019 and it's sticking out like a sore thumb.

5 Stars (I received an e-arc from NetGalley)

I missed reading these types of books, the kind that you pick up and then before you know it you're 65% of the way through the book. Jennifer L. Armentrout is an author you can count on for trashy paranormal urban fantasy. I did read the original trilogy a few years back so I am somewhat familiar with the characters and the backstory. Trinity is a great main character and fun strong female, who doesn't let her medical condition prevent her from living her life. But unfortunately she has to live in isolation with the Warden's due some secret reason. Her mother was killed just a few year ago and she lives with in a compound with a few Wardens, a same sex couple, her best friend and few others. There are some strange happenings that cause the Wardens to call in some other Wardens, which are some of the characters from the previous series. Zane and Trinity seem to be drawn each other, despite not really getting along. Yes there are a lot of predictable elements in the story but sometimes you just want to lose yourself in a story. I loved getting to see Roth and Layla again. The ending was interesting and leads into what I assume this going to be the major arc of the series.

I loved this! I missed this world so much and im glad we got to see the previous characters from the other series in this one! I missed Layla and Roth! My favorites!! I cannot wait to see where this series goes! I highly suggest reading the previous series because it has spoilers for it, but also the characters are important! Highly recommend this series! It was so fun and action packed!

Unfortunately, this was not the book for me. I tried very hard to read it, but I had to DNF it.

I don't feel like I can accurately review this book as I did not finish it. So I kept this as neutral as I could. And rated it 3 stars.

Thank you for allowing me the chance to read it.

This one was sadly not for me. I don't want to give it a rating, because I didn't finish it.

I tried. But I'm just not that into angels and demons and things. I am told after the fact that I really should have read Jennifer's previous books first. But how was I to know? This is a book 1.

I think that fans of the genre, and fans especially of Armentrout will love this book for what I have read of it.

Storm and Fury was well written. Just not my cup of tea. Sorry.

Edit: So it looks like I must give it a rating. I'm going to be kind and give it a 4 stars. Because I'm sure it's worthy of at least 4 stars to someone who would really enjoy this book. Just because it wasn't for me doesn't mean I desire to give it negative marks. I would have normally abstained from rating it.

For years and years I’d been meaning to read a book by Jennifer L. Armentrout, I have so many of her books that you would think I would have gotten around to it already. But one thing or other came up until last week when I finally picked up Storm and Fury. I admit, I struggled with it a bit, not being able to get into it and having a slow start of it but once the character of Zayne came in.. I was hooked. Yeah, I’m being the typical girl gushing over an amazing male lead BUT dynamics that Trinity and Zayne brought out in each other were just amazing. Their sarcasm, jokes and chemistry were just jumping off the pages and I could not get enough.

Not only is this storyline so unique, because gargoyles and nephilim?! I would not in a million years have thought of that as a storyline and yet it works SO well. Not only is this book full of romance, friendships and witty banter but it has the demon fighting and twists/turns that make a book even more amazing. I don’t know how I will make it these next couple of months waiting for the second installment in this new series but I just know that it will be worth the wait. I cannot wait to see just how the relationship between Trinity and Zayne evolves!

This story was a bit slow to start but once it picked up speed, it didn't let up. I really enjoyed it and I'm definitely looking forward to the next book. The world of magic and the supernatural is amazing, the characters were all vivid and bold. I read somewhere this was a spin off of a previous series by this author and I'm off to add them to my tbr. If their half as good as this one, I think I've found a new author to follow :)

The story is action packed, suspenseful, intriguing and romantic (yes, I ship Zayne and Trinity so hard!) I'm kicking myself for not reading this sooner but I'm so glad that I did because this book was everything that I love and I know I'll be re-reading it again soon as soon as my physical copy comes in the mail!

It’s been a while since I read a YA from Jennifer L. Armentrout and it was great to be back in the rules of the Wardens. While it’s set in the same wold as the The Dark Elements series you don’t have to read book one, but I kind of wish I had.

I did enjoy this, but it seriously could have been shorter by cutting this book down. Being over 500 pages is such a stretch!

I adored Trinity! She’s witty and so easy to love. She’s also battling so many things that would make most people feel inferior to others (like the possibility of losing her eyesight) but she’s doing the best that she can. I can get why some people would say that she was a bit naive but she only grew up in the Warden compound and has never really been in the outside world.

I had a lot/hate relationship the way her relationship with Zayne was written. While I did enjoy their banter and want them together, I didn’t like the way it took so long for something to happen or how his past with Layla was handled. Speaking of Layla, I really didn’t care for her in this. She came of selfish and kept pressuring Zayne to talk to her, but she really had no right. However, I’m getting off topic of the relationship between Trinity and Zayne. I was disappointed! We don’t really get anything until more than half of the book and while we do get one HOT scene, we don’t really get much more than that.

The reason my rating is only three stars is because of the length of the book and the pacing. I have more questions than what I went into this with. Everything was really down out. The romance, her abilities, and just really made me wonder why it wasn’t cut down. Also, seeing that the second book in this series Rage and Ruin is sitting at 576 for the hardcover has me really shaking my head.

All in all, I’m still a fan of JLA’s writing and this Warden world. I wish it was shorter and the romance was given a better shot. While I will be picking up book two, I won’t be in a rush to read it as soon as it releases.

I loved jumping back into the world of the Dark Elements Series! This spin-off series could definitely be read without having read the first, but people who’ve read the original series will have an even deeper love for many of the characters. (One of the reasons that I'm so late to reading this one is because I hadn't realized it was a spin-off when I requested it and I ... ahem ... had never gotten to the final book of the original series. This book would definitely have spoiled that final book for me in a lot of ways.)

I sort of love that I didn’t really thoroughly read the synopsis for this before I read it because I was surprised and delighted that Zayne is the love interest! Even after I realized it was a spin-off, I thought it was going to take place much later than the original series. But, no—this book starts off just about six months after everything went terribly wrong (and then right) in Every Last Breath. I really liked Roth in Dark Elements, but my true heart was Team Zayne all the way—so a series where he finds true love and happiness is my dream!

Okay, but I should probably talk about this actual book, right? I loved Trinity—she fits Armentrout’s typical archetype of a kick-butt heroine, but she’s also facing the reality of going blind because of a degenerative eye disease (which Armentrout actually has, so we get an excellent #OwnVoices viewpoint of the disease and the emotions that go with it). We know right from the beginning that Trinity is special in some way—not completely human—and that she’s also in danger of being targeted by demons. Honestly, the “secret” of her parentage goes on a little long, in my opinion (I guessed from the very beginning who good old dad was), but there are other twists I didn’t see coming at all. I won’t say anything more about them for fear of spoilers.

Basically, if you’re a fan of Armentrout, you’ll love this book because it ticks all her usual boxes: snarky banter, a star-crossed romance, some cool twists and a whole lot of paranormal shenanigans!

I adored Armentrout's Dark Elements series and I've been wanting a story for Zayne ever since reading it. I've always been a huge fan of his even though was Team Roth. I mean he's basically the perfect specimen of a man-- gorgeous, protective, loyal, sweet and swoony-- it's impossible NOT to fall for the guy.

Trinity was a very likeable female lead. Her character was strong, resilient, and a total badass. She was easy to root for and I loved that her relationship with Zayne is more of a slow-burn. Their banter and chemistry was so natural, fun and just perfect. I can't wait to see how they develop in the next book.

Packed with mystery, action, banter and swoony moments, Storm and Fury was a hell of a ride! I loved being back in this world of gargoyles, angels, and demons. An added plus was being able to see Roth and Layla again! Love those two. I can't wait to find out what's to come next!

Oh my gosh why did I wait so long to read this! I love Roth, but Zayne was everything in this book! I mean I really liked him in the Dark Elements series, but I just fell in love with him in Storm and Fury! I absolutely love how he and Trinity fit so perfectly for me. They have fantastic banter with each other and this fun friendship side. They have these building feelings for each other that just gave me life! I loved that build up. The storyline was wonderful and I was hooked on that so much! And now I am dying that I have to wait for the next one!!!

Angst, angst, angst. But this is what I expect and read Armentrout's books for. This still had her characteristic easy writing style with engaging characters, and did I mention angst? I definitely enjoyed it, and will be picking up her next book.

This book was FUN! It's not highbrow anything or particularly clever or groundbreaking but it is fun and cute and exciting and I loved it! Definitely can't wait for the rest of the series.

Also definitely not recommended for readers under 15 and should come with a heavy sexy times disclaimer.

Demons and gargoyles and chosen ones...

OH MY!!!

18-year-old Trinity Marrow has a special gift. She can see and commune with ghosts and spirits. This isn't her only gift though, there is a lot about Trinity that is special.

Because of her unique nature she has been hidden away at an isolated compound for years with the Wardens protecting her. What are Wardens, you may ask? They are gargoyle shape-shifters protecting mankind from demons, of course.

Trinity spends her days wandering around the compound and training with her Warden protector, Misha. She also spends a lot of time with her chatty, ghost sidekick, Peanut.

I must confess, Peanut was probably my favorite character. He is so funny, stuck in the 80s, his pop culture references brought me back. Love you, Peanut!

When a group of Wardens from another clan arrives with news of vicious attacks going on outside the compound, attacks killing demons and Wardens alike, Trinity finally has something interesting to focus on. Spying on the superiors chatting, Trin gets caught by a member of the outside clan, Zayne, the most beautiful gargoyle to ever live.

When events occur that force Trinity and Zayne to leave the compound together, we all know where that's going, it's Jennifer L. Armentrout, y'all!

I really enjoyed this one and am totally kicking myself for putting it off for so long. It started a little slow for me but as soon as Trinity met Zayne, I was hooked. There is a ton of action in here, some great fight scenes, humor, shocking revelations and a little bit of steam!

This story still has so much room to grow, as well, and left off in a superb spot for a sequel. I don't know how many books are planned to be part of The Harbinger series but you better believe, I want a front row seat for all of them!!!

Highly recommend for people looking to start a new YA Fantasy series with a touch of romance.

Thank you so much, Harlequin TEEN, for providing me with a copy of this beauty to read and review! I appreciate it.

Storm and Fury by Jennifer Armentrout is the first book in the new Harbinger series. I will admit, I didn’t read The Dark Elements series so a lot of what I learned and happened in this book was new to me and while the characters from that series do show up in this one, they aren’t the main focus. I don’t know that I needed to have the back story of those characters to get into this one but having gone back to read the summaries, I understood the link better.

The main character in this book is Trinity Marrow. She has been living with Wardens for a long time to hide a secret that could put her in a lot of danger but when other Wardens show up to the compound to share some news about something out there killing Wardens and demons, things start to implode.

As I mentioned, Trinity (and her family) are hiding a secret about her. I’m not going to say a lot about it because I don’t want to give it away, but I will tell you that if the demons found out about it, it would put her in danger. On top of that secret, Trinity can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits which makes her special and gives her the opportunity to dig a bit more into the things she sees. I liked Trinity. She loves her family and friends and as you will find out in the story, will do anything to protect them. I loved that she didn’t let her disability (she’s going blind) hold her back either. It reflected a strength of character that not everyone has and in the world Trinity lives in, she doesn’t have the luxury of just sitting back and feeling sorry for herself.

This other group of Wardens that show up at the compound include Zayne. If you read The Dark Elements series, that name will sound familiar to you. He has a back story and as I mentioned, everything was new to me because I hadn’t read the other books. I don’t think it hurt the story for me at all, it just kept me wondering what the heck his story was. It was eventually revealed but you just have to wait for it. I liked Zayne. He’s a little angsty which I don’t mind but he sees something in Trinity and as the story continues, something is revealed that helps to explain the connection these two feel for each other. I loved how their relationship progressed and will be curious to see what happens next for these two.

The secondary characters are great. I loved getting a glimpse into Trinity’s family – Misha, Thierry, Matthew, and of course Jada. As the story progresses, her relationships change with each of these characters and it definitely helped the story along. It was also interesting to see Trinity mix with new people like Nicolai, Dex, Roth, and Layla. Again, I’m interested to see where things go for all of them based on how this book ended. I can’t neglect to mention Peanut here too because he really does help and support Trinity when she needs it.

The world building Armentrout does is always well done. In this case, the structure of the demon world, how Trinity fits in, and of course mixing in the human world helped to build out this story and I’m always amazed at how this is done.

Overall, I thought this was a solid book one for a new series and while there is overlap with the other books, we do get introduced to a different story. If you enjoyed The Dark Elements series, I really think you will want to pick this one up. I’m never disappointed by a Jennifer Armentrout book and this book made me want to go back to pick up the ones I missed. I will definitely be picking up book two when available and encourage you to add this one to your TBR if you enjoy the paranormal genre.

3.5
Armentrout has created a fantasy world inhabited by wardens who are charged with protecting people from the demons who are growing bolder and more powerful. Trinity is under the protection of the wardens because of her special abilities that, if known, would make her a prime target for the demons. Misha was Trinity’s original guardian and good friend, but when he is captured, a new warden is assigned to be her protector. Now it is Zayne, a warden from another town, who is charged with guarding her. Not only is he capable, but he and Trinity are a good match and their witty give and take livens up the book.

This world is populated with gargoyles, demons, ghosts, angels and witches. Besides Trinity and Zane, there are other interesting characters that complete the cast. There’s the delightful Thierry and Matthew who are Trinity’s guardians plus the fascinating Peanut, a ghost who is impish and a bit naughty. But can these people and beings stand up to the threats from the powerful evil forces?

For lovers of the fantastical, there’s much to like. Trinity and Zane are a memorable couple and readers will be drawn in by them. Armentrout has written this spin-off series for all her fans who long to delve further into the realm of her popular Dark Elements books.
