I love Trinity. She’s no damsel in distress. She is loyal to those she loves and she knows how to defend herself and anyone who needs her. She can see ghost and spirits and she talks to them. I loved Peanut. He’s too funny and being that Peanut can get around I don’t know how certain things get by him. Guess he’s busy watching what he shouldn’t.
Zayne from the very beginning is very appealing. There’s a pull and chemistry between him and Trinity. Trinity has a secret that only those who are really close to her know.
I like how Trinity isn’t afraid to tell Zayne things no one else would and she challenges him.
I highly recommend this book.

Ugh. Maybe I need to take a break from listening to books. Or maybe I need to only listen to books with full casts and not just 1 person reading. But this lost a star because I found it irritating to have the characters sound so shallow. There was not enough depth to them. Maybe that was due to the reading? It may have been better if I’d read this myself, in my head. The story was frustrating. I felt like it was a “high school” story for the first half and a “college” story for the second. There was not much transition. Trinity goes from worrying about boys at home to living with one right away. And she was so irritating. I did not like Trinity. I like to like the main characters. But I can appreciate the world that was built in this book.
One more major issue: there was an incredibly steamy “almost sex” scene that felt very out of place for a YA.
I probably won’t read the next one.

Gargoyles, angels, and demons - it sounds like something from a Saturday morning cartoon back in the 90s. Except it is Jennifer L. Armentrout's latest novel, set in current times with all the amenities the Internet has to offer. Not having read any of her previous novels, I had no idea what to expect when diving into Storm and Fury. I did not realize it was the continuation of a previous series until I was midway through the story. While this knowledge may have added a little extra something to my reading experience, I don't feel I lost anything by not having any previous exposure to Trinity's world. I tore through this story of demons and gargoyles, swooning at all the right moments and hoping the story would never end. I enjoyed Ms. Armentrout's breezy writing style as well as the story. I adored Trinity and her vulnerabilities as well as her refusal to remain a damsel in distress. Strong women with even an even stronger code of ethics get me every time, and Trinity is a welcome addition to that list of heroines I admire and thoroughly support. I look forward to seeing what else Ms. Armentrout has in store for Trinity and Zayne.

Love triangle, lies, secrets and magic. What more could you possibly want? Two people fall for each other who shouldn’t. It gave me Romeo and Juliet feels kind of. This made me feel so many things. I can’t wait for the sequel. I loved this!

When I started reading Storm and Fury my best friend goes, “Man you love her” and OH man I really, really do. Jennifer L Armentrout never has a shortage on adventure, angst, romance, family and everything in between. This story is absolutely no exception and I loved every moment.

Zayne is back and he is everything I expected and more. Even though in The Dark Elements series I was Team Roth, I am so excited to see Zayne. He is fierce, tough, loyal and I couldn’t get enough of him. Him and Trinity are literally one of the strongest duos out there and I adored watching their interactions... especially when Roth was involved.

I am really excited to see where JLA takes this series as some things have definitely gotten complicated... and I couldn't love it any more!

Book Review- Storm and Fury by Jennifer Armentrout

This the first book in a new series that spins off the Dark Elements series. The author introduces Trinity who is living in the Wardens’ compound. Everyone things she is human. However, she is extremely special, and the wardens have no idea what they are keeping safe except a chosen few.
So of course, this story pulled me in quickly, especially if you read the series that gave you Layla and Roth, who show up in this story. “Sigh”- loved that. So is the fact that Zayne becomes a main character in this story. So, once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. I read it in about a day. I was sad when it was done.
Trinity is an interesting character. She knows what she is and who her father is. She is also frustrated. She has trained and has power, but she isn’t allowed to do anything. She must remain hidden for her safety. So, the reader already knows that isn’t going to happen. I love the quest she sends Trinity and Zayne on. She is pushed into the world hunting demons. She learns everything isn’t so black and white as she thought. She questions herself constantly and what she has been taught. The ending confrontation totally blew my mind. I wasn’t expecting that, any of it including what happens after. Now I am impatiently awaiting the next book so I can see what happens next. I loved this book and I couldn’t put it down! I give it a 5 out of 5.

Never in a million years did I think there was a book that could make me actually like Zayne. I hated him in The Dark Elements, and I was so hesitant to read this book since it was Zayne’s book. Much to my surprise (and utter shock), not only did I like Zayne’s story, I actually really liked him as well.

Storm and Fury takes place a few months after the final epic battle of the trilogy, and Zayne is still processing the events and still grappling with his loss. Trinity Marrow lives in a warden compound under their protection because her family was killed by demons. Zayne and Trinity meet when Zayne and his his clan stay at the compound in order to share the news that demons and Wardens are being killed and no one knows what’s doing the killing or why. When Trinity’s protector goes missing, Trinity and Zayne team up in order to find the party responsible and hopefully bring him home alive.

Not only did I love Zayne in this book, I also really liked Trinity. I never cared for Zayne and Layla together — Layla needed taken care of whereas Trinity takes care of herself, and I think that’s the kind of person Zayne needed in order to quit being such a sniveling baby. And that’s exactly what he got with Trinity. Not only that, but Trinity is such an incredibly strong character, both physically and mentally, and she’s able fight alongside Zayne and the Wardens, even going so far as surpassing their powers and stamina. Which is because Trinity isn’t exactly human, and what she is is stronger than Wardens and almost all demons.

For fans of the trilogy, we see some old faces and some characters we LOVE (cough...Roth...cough), and I hope they continue to make appearances in the rest of the series. I’m also hoping that one beloved slithering character somehow breaks away from her current position and finds herself back where she rightfully belongs. One can always hope, right?

Bottom line — fantastic first entry in JLA’s new spinoff series, and I can’t wait to see what the next installment brings. It’s not necessary to read The Dark Elements prior to reading this one, although I’d still recommend it to see Zayne’s journey from the beginning and see why he is the way he is.

Sooooooo... I have the feels for this book. Gah I really enjoyed it. This is the first book by Armentrout that I’ve ever read. I didn’t know she had a whole other series and that this was a spin-off. However, it was a great read. Not knowing the characters from before I really enjoyed them. And oh the twists... the twists, I did not at all imagine. I had knots in my stomach... I did unfortunately lose interest half way through the book which was frustrating (which is why it took me soo long to finish it) BUT once I got past the 60% mark then it really picked up for me. I’m happy that I stuck through it an finished it. The ending was AWESOME! I will definitely wait for the second book in this series. I can’t wait to see what Armentrout has in store for these characters next!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review, this has not altered my opinion of this book.

A quick and easy read that has so many sarcastic characters. Seriously, open to a random page and you'll probably find some sarcastic comment by one or all of the characters on the page. It's a touch unrealistic, though I do wish I had a comeback for everything and that the people in my life were that snarky. This was a true ya book down to the small bit of sexy time romance.

This book follows Trinity, an 18-year-old, who is being hidden in an isolated compound, protected by an adoptive family of sorts of Wardens (aka gargoyle shape-shifters) who protect humankind from demons. She is able to see and talk to ghosts and spirits, and the majority of the people at the compound don't know what she is, which is only half-human. When it is revealed what her other half is, a supernatural war between the Wardens and demons starts.

Trinity is a really interesting character, and while much of her personality is a typical ya character, she also has a disability (a hereditary trait) that really did wonders for her character and showed, rather than told, just how strong she could be. The connection between her and Zayne is such an immediate one that it's hard to think that they didn't understand what would be revealed much later. I am a huge sucker for flirtatious banter and this book is packed full of it.

The only issue that I had was that I predicted the entire story. The twist didn't surprise me and there were very few things that started me at all. This being said, it was a cute book and I highly recommend it. This book is based around war and several religious aspects, so there is quite a bit of violence, but yes. Overall, 3.5 out of 5 from me.

Jennifer L. Armentrout once again brings to life a imaginative, exciting, action packed paranormal/fantasy world. The romance, action, suspense and humor tied all together into a fantastic story. Every aspect, from the world, to each character brought this story to life on each page. Zayne and Trinity are a pair you don’t want to miss out on. I could not get enough of them, their banter, the swoon-worthy moments. Every interaction made me want more and more of their story, of their beautiful bond. I love this crazy fun world. I want to stay it for as long as possible. And I can’t wait to see what is to come with these characters and their journey.

I enjoyed falling back into the The Dark Elements world with STORM AND FURY.

Trinity was an interesting characters. We get little sneak peaks to show us why she is special, but it's a nice slow reveal to find out what she truly is. I found her to be pretty kick butt. I loved seeing Zayne again and I loved his role in both Trinity's life and the story overall. Layla and Roth are part of the story as well and they all worked really well together considering their past.

The romance: Lot's of ups and downs, but I really like Zaybe and Trinity together. Not a ton happens between the two because of issues, but I can see a really strong relationship in their future.

Armentrout did a great job with the mystery and bad guy reveal. I was NOT expecting the outcome that came to pass. I was shocked, but then again It made total sense.

I really liked meeting Trinity and getting to see Zayne, Layla and Roth again. I will keep my eye out for book two.

I'm always on the lookout for new urban fantasy series featuring unusual creatures, so I was over the moon to learn that Jennifer L. Armentrout was writing a spin-off of her Dark Elements series - which happened to be the first series I ever read featuring gargoyles. Plus, Trinity, the heroine of Storm and Fury, the first of the Harbinger books, is a human who is losing her vision because of a progressive eye disease, and I knew this was going to be a book I'd love.

Before I begin rhapsodizing about Storm and Fury, I want to assure you that you don't have to have read the Dark Elements novels in order to enjoy this one. Reading the original series will give you a deeper and more complete understanding of the world and its characters, but the author does a great job recapping prior events for those readers who choose to dive right into Storm and Fury.

Trinity Marrow is eighteen years old, and doing her best to adapt to some very unusual circumstances. She's the only human living in a compound of Wardens, who are gargoyle shapeshifters. Her mother was killed by a rogue Warden two years before the story opens, and ever since that day, Trinity has been in hiding. You see, Trinity is no ordinary human, and if the truth about who she really is gets out, chaos will be unleashed upon the land. I can't say too much about Trinity's secret without spoiling the whole book, so I'll simply say she possesses a particular gift, one that makes her extremely desirable to demonkind. And if all that isn't enough for one teenage girl to deal with, Trinity is also in the process of going blind.

The Wardens tasked with keeping Trinity safe have done their best to keep her hidden from everyone save those who live in their compound, but when Wardens from another clan arrive at the gates one night in desperate need of help, Trinity's existence is no longer quite so secret. There's a terrible force loose in the world, a force capable of killing humans and Wardens alike, and the various Warden clans must band together if they hope to defeat it.

Trinity finds herself inexplicably drawn to Zayne, one of the visitors. There's something about him that seems to speak to her very soul, and despite the warnings of those around her, she can't resist spending time with him. He is darkly alluring, and even more important, he doesn't seem to view her as a fragile flower in need of constant protection. Together, she and Zayne might just have the power to defeat their common enemy, but only if Trinity comes clean to Zayne about who she really is and why an extremely powerful demon will stop at nothing to claim her for his own.

I first met Zayne in the Darkest Elements series, and I was beyond pleased to spend more time with him. He has a dark and troubled past, and isn't sure he's capable of really loving someone, but Trinity manages to break down all of his defenses. I loved watching him lay his inner demons to rest and give into his feelings for Trinity, even though doing so could be the most dangerous thing he's ever done.

Trinity herself is a fantastic heroine. She can be a little impulsive at times, but she definitely learns from her mistakes, so I was able to forgive some of her bad decisions. Plus, she's only eighteen and she's been extremely sheltered up until this point, making some of her more reckless actions a little easier to understand. By the end of the novel, it's clear she's matured quite a bit, and I'm really excited to see where future books in the series will take her.

Trinity's visual impairment is dealt with in a way that feels completely authentic. She has a lot of mixed emotions about her impending blindness, but she's determined not to allow it to get the best of her. She learns to fight in ways that don't rely on vision, and she and Zayne work tirelessly to find ways for her to participate in the community. Often, characters with disabilities are pushed off to the sidelines, and I was so glad to see Ms. Armentrout taking a different tack here. Trinity's vision loss is just one of her characteristics, but certainly not the most important thing about her.

At a little over 500 pages, Storm and Fury might be intimidating to some readers, but don't let its length put you off. It moves quickly and possesses the perfect balance between action scenes and character development. The world building is utterly immersive, a necessity in good urban fantasy. Storm and Fury is a pure delight from start to finish, and whether you've read Ms. Armentrout's work in the past or you're discovering its magic for the first time, it’s a book I'm pleased to recommend.

This book is an amazing first installement. I just loved Zane and Trinity. They have the best chemistry together. I liked how they had the best banter. There was so much sizzle and steam at a YA level. Them together as a couple just captivated me. Trinity is one of the best characters that JLA has created. She is so funny and witty. But what I liked about her was that she was extremely sensitive and compassionate. She was so sweet to Zane. Her kindness of Layla and his past for Zane was awesome. And the lengths she believes in this sweet gargoyle is amazing.

Zane is a really good book boyfriend. He is extremely sweet. I liked how his beta personality really showed here. He never got second best but the best. His sweet personality and protectiveness of Trinity made him the awesome book boyfriend. Plus, he is just so funny.

The romance is A+. I liked how the characters developed into their relationship without over taking the plot. There was such a tenderness. The two of them got each other and it was amazing.

The world building was superb. I loved seeing all the new twists in the awesome gargoyle world. It wasn't a repeat of Dark Elements. Instead, the author threw in so many twists that you never saw coming. The new twists with angels, Bambi, and so many characters was awesome.

I can't wait for the second book in the series.

When I first heard of this book, it sounded so interesting to me. I’m sad to say that this book was a somewhat disappointment. Most of this book was actually pretty good. The concept behind the story seems very unique, at least in my opinion. I’ve never heard of a book with gargoyles and demons and the like, all blended into one book. The plot of this book was set a relatively good pace; I didn’t feel like any of the events were too rushed. So I should have enjoyed this story, but I just couldn’t. Trinity as a main character has to be one of the most annoying characters I’ve ever read from. Part of that stemmed from the fact that most of the characters’ actions and words were so incredibly unrealistic. Teenagers don’t talk like that. Adults don’t talk like that. Nobody on the face of this planet interacts like that. This issue caused me to hate most of the characters right off the bat. I loved Trinity’s humor when she was just thinking to herself. That sounded so natural and comical, and I really wished that she could have just acted like that when speaking to other people. Also, I wasn’t a huge fan of how the relationship was built. It wasn’t exactly insta-love, but it just doesn’t feel natural or genuine. I probably would have enjoyed this book so much more when I was younger and less picky. I’m sure that there are people who might like this book, but I unfortunately was not one of them. I haven’t decided yet if I will pick up the sequel. I do think that the plot twist at the end was pretty good, but I wished it would have ended on a slightly different note.

★★★☆☆

It's probably a little unfair to DNF only a 500 page book. I've definitely slogged through worse. But it was a combination of not in the mood and being bored, so that's kinda what I did. I hopped and skipped my way through the rest of the book and stopped to read what caught my eye.

It was really nice to see a disabled main character represented! Trinity has retinitis pigmentosa, which causes poor eyesight that degenerates as you grow older. I read somewhere that Jennifer herself has that disorder.

I didn't hate Trinity. She was not my favorite, and at the beginning, I was definitely not a fan. But she had her moments.

Zayne (I have to cringe at the name a lil I'm sorry) is one of the better bad-boy love interests I've read. Most of their early interactions felt much babysitter/babysittee rather than love interest but their romance developed more through the story, and I ended up enjoying it.

This is a spinoff of a series I haven't read, but you don't need to read her earlier work to be able to understand this world. Although apparently there were some character cameos from earlier series which I kind of caught? But only because it felt like cameos.

Overall pretty good! I'd like to go back for a reread sometime.

Thank you to Harlequin Teen and Netgalley for the chance to read and review this ARC.

Did not finish. I usually love Armentrout's books but I found this one quite lacking. I didn't enjoy the characters at all. I am very much a character driven reader.

An interesting read with a strong, outspoken female lead. It started off a bit slow but I ended up not being able to put it down!

Storm and Fury is a spin off of the author's Dark Elements series, and it is so good, I can't wait for more of this new Harbinger Series. The best part about this book is we finally get to see what is going on with Zayne, who we know lost Layla to Roth, however being a Warden keeps him busy, but alone. He is still trying to figure out what happened in the near past with the gargoyles and demons.

In this book we meet Trinity who lives with an isolated branch of the Wardens. Trinity is 18 years old and is quite unique. Nobody knows about who she really is or what she is. Trinity has to stay at the compound and is under the care of her protector Misha. As for her Father-he put her there where she is to remain until he calls for her. She is not a warden, but no one really knows what she is except for a handful of people.

Zayne and two other members of his clan come to visit, and Zayne and Trinity are both very curious about each other. While they are visiting, the compound gets attacked and Trinity's protector is taken. Zayne has an unexpected pull to Trinity and she to him, even though they both have their secrets. Their attraction to each other is strong.

After Mishaa disappears, her clan feels it would be better to go back with Zayne to his clan so they can try to find Misha and rescue him. It is here where who Trinity is and what she is, is revealed. We also get to see Roth and Layla again, and others from the Dark Elements, and it is nie to see what is going on.

The book comes to a swift change in the plot and it had me wondering just what is going to happen! There is everything in this book I love; suspense angst, romance, danger, and betrayals that take the book into another plot twist that had me guessing to the end!

I really loved this book by Jennifer L Armentrout and can't wait for the next book in this new series, which is why I love Jennifer's books! They are all so well written, have meaning, and there is good versus bad, which keeps me not wanting to put the book down until I finish it.

I gave this book 5 fantastic stars!

I am a HUGE fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout (JLA) and I have read most of her books, which means I was of course so excited to get my hands on Storm Fury, the first book in The Harbinger series! Storm Fury (The Harbinger #1) by JLA is a spin off series from The Dark Elements series. I would highly recommend reading The Dark Elements series first before diving into Storm Fury. This book draws you in from the first page and I couldn’t put it down. JLA does not disappoint and I was completely hooked from start to finish.

Storm Fury picks up not too long after The Dark Elements series finishes but follows Zayne and Trinity’s story. Trinity can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her special gift has kept her fiercely protected in an isolated compound hiding amongst the Wardens. The Wardens are shape-shifting gargoyles that protect humans from demons. If the demons knew about Trinity, they’d consume her to increase their powers. When Zayne and his clan arrive from D.C. to share disturbing reports demons and Wardens killings, and now Trinity’s safe spot has been turned upside down.

I just can’t get enough of all of JLA’s amazing characters. I mean, who ever imagined that gargoyles would be sexy? Then in walked Zayne in the Dark Element series and suddenly I’ve found a whole new shapeshifter to obsess over. I am so excited to read more about Zayne and Trinity’s story in The Harbinger series. Trinity is exactly the kind of kick-ass heroine I have come to expect from JLA! She’s fierce, strong, and loyal. Now, Zayne is such a fantastic character and totally swoon worthy, and honestly, I could continue to gush about him for the rest of this review, but that might be overkill.

All in all, a solid 5-STAR read for Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Storm Fury (The Harbinger #1). I can’t wait to get my hands on the next installment, and I’ll be attempting to patiently wait for it.

Unfortunately, this one wasn't for me. For some reason I couldn't connect with the characters and the writing seemed a bit too cheesy for me at times. This definitely felt like an early 2000's YA fantasy book that I've read a thousand times before.

I'm normally not big into extensive world-building, but I felt like there was little to none in this book and I'm not sure if this is because it's a spin-off series? Which I didn't know because there was really no mention of it throughout the marketing of this book. I only found out through other readers who had read the books prior to this. If I knew it was a spin-off I definitely would have held off until I had read the other books beforehand.

While I don't think this series is for me, I think other people will still be able to enjoy it. I think I'll stick to the Lux series from here on out.
