It is wonderful to be back in author Jennifer Armentrout's world from her 'The Dark Elements' series, this time following a different young woman as she falls for the dreamy warden, Zayne. The story picks up after a slow-ish beginning and is off to the races! Looking forward to the next book of this Harbinger series, as this is only book one and the fun has begun.

Lets just say, WOW.. I loved this book. This was actually my first read by Jennifer Armentrout but now I just want to read all the books! I do know that this is apparently a spin off from The Dark Elements series which I have not read, like I said this was my first read. I am sure I am missing some valuable information. This makes me want to read that series then re-read this so I can see what I might have really missed.

What caught my attention when I requested this book was the aspect of being able to see ghost and spirits but hold on, it does not stop there, we have gargoyle shape-shifters. I mean, what???? Yes, please, give to me! I am so thankful that I was actually given this ARC. Also, lets just take a moment and look at this cover art!!........ Moment over! Yes, stunning work.

Also, I think this maybe a first book in a series. Not sure but I think so.

I enjoyed this book just as much as I’ve enjoyed Jennifer’s other series. It was refreshing to read something outside the Lux universe, and I didn’t realize this was a spin-off of another series until after I’d finished. Zayne is totally swoon-worthy, Trinity is intriguing, and I loved the secondary characters like Peanut! I look forward to reading more of this series as it comes out.

Storm and Fury was an enjoyable return to the world of Wardens and Demons that infused witty dialogue with genuine moments and steamy flirting to create a well balanced and engaging story filled with action and adventure. We follow Trinity Marrow as she navigates the dangerous supernatural world around her and tries to keep her identity a secret from the demons threatening her home as she grows closer to a visiting Warden, Zayne, who has secrets of his own.

Things I Liked
Misha and Trinity’s bond is so well-established and I could feel their history and connection. It made the events of the story all the more meaningful.

As expected there was excellent banter and flirting all around. Jennifer L. Armentour continues to create dialogue that is both fun and honest for the characters.

There’s also a ton of fighting and action throughout the story. There were well paced and placed through the story so there was never any lag time.

So many wonderful scenes with other beloved characters. I was thrilled to see Roth, Layla, Cayman, and some of the other Wardens show up in the story.


Things I Didn’t Like
I really didn’t need to have a guy getting all handsy in the first chapter. It just didn’t set the tone for the story the way I wanted it too. It was something I had to get over, not something that made the story impactful.

The ending felt a little rushed and unsatisfying. The reveal and resolution all happened fairly quickly with little time to reflect. It just wasn’t my favorite.

Storm and Fury was a fun story in a fun world that had me hooked. I really liked Trinity and Zayne and I look forward to more in their story. While the beginning and the ending of the story was a bit weaker than I would have preferred, it was an enjoyable experience. If you’re a fan of Paranormal Romance and Urban fantasy, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Storm and Fury is the first book in the Harbinger series. A series that is a spin off of the Dark Elements series. It centered around Trinity. A girl taken in by Wardens. Similar to the Dark Element series. She is struggling to fit in. Enter Zayne. Known to those who read the Dark Elements series. I loved this book. The plot was spot on.
The characters are great. Zayne and Trinity’s chemistry is off the charts. What makes all of Jen’s books stand out, is her ability to not only build outstanding main characters, but she also takes the time to develop side characters that become stars. This can be read as a stand-alone series, but readers would benefit by reading the Dark Elements series first.

Wow! This is another series set in the same world as The Dark Elements. Zayne is in this! Yay! Hopefully he’ll get the girl this time, but I’ll admit I was Team Roth all the way in the prior series. And, yes, both Layla and Roth make an appearance. This time Zayne actually seems like the One in a good way, not untouchable as before. And now to The Harbinger, Trinity, with her “Grace” change once she gets angry or hurt enough. I actually liked her, she seemed real without being too dumb, with the exception of the first demon scene when she goes running to the fight when she knows she shouldn’t be. It really irritates me when H’s do that, especially when they know they shouldn’t since they’ve known about what to do and what not to since day one even before the book started. Even Zayne mentions it to Trinity, “I can’t imagine that this is the first time you haven’t followed the rules.” Loc 2200 of 5277. Now, to Misha, Trinity’s bond mate, awh, lets leave it here so there won’t be any spoilers, lol. I really liked the supporting cast in the book, Matthew and Thierry were the best and super supportive. I can’t wait to read the next in the series! I hoping it’s a trilogy as well. I thought I really liked the Lux series, but reading this puts Lux to shame! First of all, I love the idea of this world. Wardens are gargoyles who basically try to keep demons at bay. Demons are DEMONS. And from there, you get Trinity. A Trueborn. Half ANGEL and half human.
The overall plot was fast paced enough to keep me from needing to ask any questions and yet not too fast that I was lost when it came to any details.
And let me tell you right now, the witty banter throughout the entire book just gave me LIFE. I need sassy, strong, no nonsense female characters. And lord, did I find one of my favorites ever. She literally cannot stop her mouth from saying exactly what she wants to. My favorite part of Trinity and Zayne together is that he is intrigued by her from the get go (not insta-love though) without being one of those Male characters that is cold towards his feelings. You don't ever feel like he is dismissing her or their connection.
20 stars. Will even repeat read this, it was that good.

Full Disclosure. I haven't read the Dark Elements series. I read Bitter Sweet Love (book 0.5) and just couldn't get into gargoyles. Fast forward 5 years and I'm singing a different tune.

Jennifer Armentrout has become one of my favorite authors. Her writing always makes me want more. I devour the pages she writes. And while I thought gargoyles was a hard no for me it turns out Jennifer Armentrout can make me want a gargoyle. Who knew?

You can definitely read this book without reading the Dark Elements series but know you are going to get a few major spoilers. I was okay with that because I didn't figure I was ever going to go back and read the Dark Elements series. But I liked the characters I read about enough that I plan to go back and read them despite knowing how things ended with that series. Its all about the writing folks. I just want more and all the spoilers in the world can't ruin the experience.

The characters are fantastic--main and secondary. They are complex, funny, and realistic. I loved that Trinity shares Jennifer's real life visual disorder. To take something that is so scary and turn into something so badass is amazing. I loved how quirky and strong Trinity is.

I cannot wait for the second book which is going to be quite the wait since the first book hasn't officially come out yet. But at least I have the Dark Elements to fill that time.

I'm sorry. I just threw up in my mouth a little.

The writing style was quite plain for such a seasoned writer, and not only had I expected much better, but she chose to take risks with sentences such as above. The first half of this book struggled with no direction and felt like a chore. I could not tell what the point was or where it was going. There were pacing issues and the story didn't pick up until the second half. If the book started with the intensity the second half had, I would have liked it much more. If I had read this of my own accord and not received a copy through Netgalley, I may have abandoned it after the first few chapters.

Although I did like the different characters abilities, the whole demon/angel premise has been done so many times, it's "old hat" with hings of The Mortal Instruments. The long winded banter between characters was extremely annoying. I was not expecting such a steamy almost-sex scene in YA nor did I see it coming all after after beginning to read the book. The ghost seeing skill could have been developed a lot more and had the ability to be so much fun. It was almost unnecessary to the story line.

I'm not sure how I feel about the ending. I'm 50% feeling like it was a cop out. I hate when an author has an amazing idea for a book but then has no clue how to wrap it up. Not sure if that was done here, or if the ending was intended from the get-go. It left me unfulfilled, feeling like it was an unnatural turn for the story.

Overall, it was entertaining but unmemorable.

Storm and Fury is a spin off book set in the world from the Dark Elements trilogy which I had not heard of or read. After reading this novel, I am going to go get it NOW! The world is one in which demons, angels and wardens exist but are hidden from humans is unique and interesting. Trinity is a great character and the story had great romance and mystery. A great, quick read that I was sorry to see end!

Eighteen year old Trinity Marrow may be going blind, but she can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her unique gift is part of a secret so dangerous that she’s been in hiding for years in an isolated compound fiercely guarded by Wardens—gargoyle shape-shifters who protect humankind from demons. If the demons discover the truth about Trinity, they’ll devour her, flesh and bone, to enhance their own powers.

First I want to say the story was unique it was like nothing I have read before. It is a new take on gargoyles whichmade it interesting to me. That being said I felt the plot dragged in places someparts it was not even there for me. Some parts were too much information being dropped and others there was not enough to fully flush out the story. I rush through to get to the end only to be
disappointed. The big fight at the end left me shaking my head; like what just happened. The story started off good, then slowed to a dragged and by the end a speed through.

The characters felt flat. One part adored Trinity and the other part wanted to slap some sense into her. Trinity was selfish, conceited and arrogant. She had her good moments, some of her comments were funny but that is as far as it got for me. By the end I did not carefor any of the characters I was not bothered by what happened to them by the end. I just wanted it to be over. The plot twist seemed unrealistic. There was so much left out that I became confused at what was being said. I wanted more excitment. I wanted Trinity to be this badass character who took charged since she does have this unique gift. It was not used very often.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I do not know if I will continue. I understand there has already been a world developed around these characters.I really wanted to like this book but there was so many problems for me that I couldn't invest myself in it the way I wanted. I believe it was the lack of chemistry between the two main characters. They were constantly arguing over petty things I have never wanted to reach inside a book more and slap both of them. For Trinity to communicate with ghosts and spirits only two were referenced the entire book. And it was so far fetched that I skipped through so many of their interactions. The ending was predictable. I knew who her father was long before I reached the middle of the book. For all her concern of a certain character it felt dull to me.

There were parts that I enjoyed and there were pieces I enjoyed less. Fans of this series will love it.

I'm am so happy that this series is happening!! i love the dark elements series with a passion as well as every single book Armentrout has ever published. I was very excited to see that zayne was getting his story told with this series and i love trinity and her character and the fact that Armentrout gave her the same disease that she has. I love to see characters inspired by real life diseases or illnesses as it really make them as a character more believable and show that it wont hold them back. I am so excited to read more from her!!!

Holy Moly, that was a wild ride! In true PNR Jennifer Armentrout style, this book builds to a shocking pinnacle while leaving you wanting more. I am not going to add any spoilers, so my review will be brief. I loved visiting this world again and getting to see a bit of Roth, Layla and of course Zayne. The book was a bit slow in the beginning for me. but once it got going, I was fully invested in Trinity and her story. I am continuously amazed at Jennifer Aremnetrout's ability to build a PNR world that is so believable! There is a cliffhanger as this is going to be a series, and I love how she ends the book. Like you are resting with the characters until the next battle.

Jennifer L. Armentrout’s work is always so entertaining and immersive. Her books are quick and fun reads, and Storm and fury is no exception!

This is a spin-off (the first in a new trilogy) and while you don’t have to read the others first, after having finished reading this book, I recommend you do. I wish I had—there are characters from the other books in this one and a lot of the plot for the others is spoiled by reading this one first.

Storm and Fury is an urban fantasy—you’ve got angels, demons, and gargoyles—Yes gargoyles. They keep the balance and kill demons. Then you have the nephilim. A half angel and half human. All of the nephilim have been devoured by demons...save one—our heroine. Trinity.

Trinity has been kept safe and sound her whole life behind locked gates. Safe from the demons who would literally eat her. But one day strangers arrive at the compound she’s being kept at, and a series of events throws her and a gargoyle “warden” together in a race for time to save someone she cares deeply for.

This is a very watered down synopsis, but I just don’t want to give anything away.

While Armentrout’s works can be considered cliché—characters and romance tropes—she always adds a little spin to these tropes that makes her writing unique and engaging instead of repetitive plots and world building. The plot to Storm and fury is straightforward, with a. Few twists and turns throughout. Making it a quick read that isn’t too heavy nor too light—a fine middle ground I always appreciate when I want to read something I know Will hook me but not drown me in feels. That’s not saying this book didn’t make me feel anything—there are some very lovely relationships, and heart wrenching chapters that really pulled at my heartstrings. Add on a brooding and complicated romance (sexy times too) and a sassy flawed heroine with a disability that doesn’t define her—what’s not to love?! I can’t wait for book two and I’ve already bought the original books set in this world to dive into in the meantime!

I genuinely LOVED this book. At first it was a little confusing and I did not feel like reading it. But after the first 50 pages I was obsessed. I basically couldn't put it down and read it in little over a day. The author did write one series that took place before this book/upcoming series, but I have not read it yet and the book made perfect sense to me. I might or might not read it because technically there were some spoilers in this book to what had happened in The Dark Elements Series. Even if you have read that series, I am sure you will love this book even more. Like I said I have not read The Darkest Elements and still LOVED this book. The character development was great and it felt like every page ended in a cliffhanger. I love books like this that have a little bit of romance in them but are not too cliche and still have adventure and other stuff in it. Even if you are not super obsessed with romance novels I think you will still love this book. All in all, this was a great book and I would highly recommend it to anybody. Hope you love it as much as I did.

Storm and Fury is about a girl named Trinity, who while going blind, can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Trinity has been hiding out with a group of Wardens, who are gargoyles who protect the world from demons, since she was a little girl. When something starts killing demons and Wardens, another clan of Wardens come to Trinity’s group in order to work together to figure out what’s happening.
This book starts slow but in a way that it assumes you already know about the world and the different groups in the world. It was confusing at first, but eventually everything is explained and the world-building starts a few chapters into the book. This is my first Armentrout book, and once I got over the initial confusion and finally figured out what was going on, I found the book to be a fast and light read. Trinity is strong, snarky, and brave. Zayne, a Warden from the visiting group, is mysterious and broody. I would have to say my favorite character in the entire book that kept me reading was Peanut, a perverse ghost who follows Trinity around and uses the fact that no one can see him to spy and eavesdrop on people. Overall, this book was a light and fast read despite being over 500 pages. I recommend it if you’re looking for a supernatural read with some romance sprinkled in.

I'm a huge fan of anything JLA has written so when I heard that she was diving back into the world of gargoyles and demons I jumped at the chance to get my grabby little hands on Storm and Fury, the first in The Harbinger series, a spin off of her Dark Elements series. If you were a fan of that series or just a fan of Zayne in general then you're going to fall in love with this fast-paced, drama filled, new YA (that could be classified as NA) series. This book was everything I wanted for Zayne and more. And ya'll, just a little heads up...this book is around 500 pages! JLA definitely takes you on a ride in this one! 

Trinity is someone who I nosey, curious, and on-the-go all the time. She's relatable in ways that make her easy to like. The story, in the beginning, moves sort of slow but it really gives you a back story on her. You get to know her and even before the "big reveal" about her you kind of can see where the story is heading. With that said, it all adds to her character and personality, and by the end of the book you feel as if you really know her. I loved everything about this character; she's strong-willed and doesn't let anyone walk over her. If you like JLA's other female leads then you'll definitely fall in love with Trinity. 

Zayne, as we know if you've read the Dark Elements series, has been through the ringer. The past few months haven't been easy on him and it seems like he's still in the middle of trying to process it all. But when he meets Trinity, things change. I loved the buildup between both main characters; in ways it was instant but in others it was a slow burn. Their connection and witty banter is typical JLA and I loved it. They fit each other well and there are some scenes that, in my opinion, could very well be considered NA (New Adult) in nature. **thank you JLA!**

The plot was well executed and, even though I could see some things coming, I didn't see everything. We also get to see some old friends which was a pleasant surprise. I mean, come on....when am I ever not wanting to see Roth?!? Overall, everything was well paced and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. For this to be the start of a new series, it played out well and the ending wasn't "cliffhanger-y" at all. In fact, the ending was beautiful but still leaves you hoping for more because this story is just that dang good! I'm really excited to see where Jenn takes this series!

I was so excited to be back in the world of Gargoyles! This is book 1 in The Harbinger series, spinoff from The Dark Elements Series.

I was a bit disappointed at first, sorry to say. The book started pretty slow. It’s a long book, over 500 pages. And the first half of the book took place in one spot, at the compound where Trinity lives. It picked up when she left with Zayne to Washington DC and stayed with him. Oh.....yeah....it reaaaalllyyy picked up then!!! Lol!!

Ok...so Trinity (the book is told in only her voice) is an interesting character. It took me a little while to warm up to her, she’s not Layla, but I did. She’s pretty cool. She has a disability, Retinitis Pigmentosa, where the amount of vision she has will get less and less until she could someday go blind. There’s more to it than that, but it gets complicated. But the cool thing with Trinity is she doesn’t let it get the best of her. She’s learned to compensate, and can fight and jump rooftop to rooftop. She walks around and interacts with people and they have no idea what she is struggling with. That’s pretty superhero-ish if you ask me! Anyway Trinity and her mom were brought to the gargoyle compound and kept there to be protected. But Trinity’s mom had been killed when she was young, so they still kept and protected and trained Trinity. Trinity is special. She sees ghosts, she even helps them to pass on. But there’s something more...

Zayne, Nicolai and Dez show up at the compound and Zayne and Trinity’s story begins. It got more interesting once Zayne showed up. Holy smokes, Zayne was awesomely wonderful in this book!! And the steamy parts of this book are nice & toe curling steamy!! We get to see Roth & Layla, and the rest of Zayne’s clan. It was fun seeing old friends from The Dark Elements series. Oh! We even got to see Bambi! Love Bambi ❤️

The second half of the book got much more exciting, and as the book went on it got more and more exciting, with lots of twists and turns!! So don’t get discouraged if you find the beginning kind of slow. Hang in there, it is going to pick!! I am really looking forward to book 2!!!

This was a fast paced, fun book to read. I didn't see the end coming--well, the ultimate end of the book, yeah, that was pretty obvious from foreshadowing, but the result of the ultimate battle at the end? I didn't see that coming! I love when that happens.

I loved how naturally the characters spoke, and how easy the dialogue felt. I loved the descriptions, and how even those didn't flow into overwrought prose, but kept in line with how Trinity spoke through the entire book--she was unerringly consistent and her reactions felt very much like an actual, real person. They felt authentic. I couldn't help but laugh at her descriptions and commentary on the demons in the subway station--the "supernaked" demons. I could picture her gawking and reacting exactly how I imagine I would have at 18.

And the clear and direct way Trinity is written doesn't stop with Trinity--Zayne feels equally authentic and compelling, and so do other characters who aren't as close to the main as he is. The characters are just so natural and interesting that the rest of the universe the author's created in this book just fits. It all seems plausible and doesn't require an extravagant amount of disbelief suspension.

The romance bit didn't even get in the way as much as I thought it would. It was there, and it was obvious, but it wasn't all sunshine and puppy dogs, nor did it impede progress of the Harbinger plot line.

And my very favorite part of this book? Every male in Trinity's life knows she's a badass and lets her BE a badass without needlessly treating her with kid gloves. Sure, they protect her--she is the last of her kind--but they trained her, too. They let her develop her skills and they don't molly coddle her. While Zayne protects her (I mean, he should. It's kind of his whole point.), he still lets her do her thing and take down the bad guys and acknowledges that she's tough and knows what she's doing. Even after she tells him about her vision problems, he STILL doesn't get in her way when she fights.

My only complaint is the revelation of Trinity's dad. A) he seems like a major assbag, B) it didn't seem like a big deal, but at other points in the book it seems to other characters like it IS a big deal, and C) WHAT DID HE WHISPER IN ZAYNE'S EAR?

I'm definitely following this author now, and I can't wait to read the next book in this series!
