Looking at the cover of this book will put you on a island vibe before you get to the title page. Olive has a twin who is in the midst of getting married at the beginning of this book and the groom has a brother by the name of Ethan. Olive and Ethan had a miscommunication from the day they met so since then, Olive tries to avoid him but when they are together the sarcasm and niceties come to the surface. The bride and groom get sick and the vacay is left for the lovely old married couple acting siblings. We all know what happens when you are forced to spend time with that one person where the hot meter is like 100? Yep feelings will come out and intimacy may be lurking. After 10 days in paradise they go back to reality and thats when so many differences occur and sides are taken. Olive and Ami are at odds and Ethan decides to separate. Will they be able to reconcile? I really enjoyed Olive who was quirky, funny and a always felt that she had a lot of strings of bad luck. I wished it was a dual point which only the epilogue is in his POV but that is just my hang up . These two do throw a little banter between each other but the chemistry to me was dim for these two. Overall it was a nice read.

I loved this book! After reading the blurb and seeing the cover I couldn’t get my hands on it fast enough. Once I started The Unhoneymooners I couldn’t put it down.

Olive has a twin sister Ami who is getting married. These two couldn’t be more different. Ami is lucky where Olive is down on her luck. She thinks all the bad things happen to her. Ami does any sweepstakes she can to win things. She ends up getting her wedding and honeymoon paid for. At the reception things are going good until everyone starts to get sick. Out of the family the only two to not get sick are the ones that can’t stand each other.

Ethan and Olive are taking the honeymoon because it is non-fundable free trip. They have to learn to like each other and be able to fake being in love. That is not as easy as you’d think. Many things happen while on the honeymoon.

This was a fun rom-com that had me laughing and loving these characters. I devoured this book. This was the perfect enemies to lovers story. I highly recommend it!

The Unhoneymooners was my "every author deserves a second go" book for writing tandem Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings. My first attempt at a book of theirs ended up in a DNF and I couldn't stand the characters. But Olive and Ethan were awesome and have convinced me that Christina Lauren is a go.

A total enemies-to-lovers story, The Unhoneymooners shows how the surface is just that, the surface and you have to dig deeper. Poor Olive. She is constantly comparing herself to her twin, and frankly, it's not working for her. She's got a serious case of "woe is me" and just can't seem to break out of it. And it's not like it's all happenstance. Some of it is self-inflicted. But her world view leads to self-fulfilling prophecy and it needs to change.

Ethan's pretty happy with things, except this woman he is attracted to is a total bitch. His brother warned him, and sure enough, first impressions and all that. But she is going to be related to him by marriage and they have to get along for the wedding, at least enough to not ruin it.

That's ok: the wedding is ruined by bad seafood and they end up taking the honeymoon trip in place of the newlyweds. And underneath all that first impression stuff and skewed world view stuff and confusing emotions stuff, they both find there is more than meets the eye. Frankly, I loved the tentativeness both Ethan and Olive showed as things began changing for them. And I loved how they both struggled and moved slowly and worked to figure things out. It's quite challenging and it all plays out on the page.

It's scary navigating an entire shift in how you see past events and both Ethan and Olive have to go through it, more than once. Unexpectedly deep yet complexly humorous, The Unhoneymooners is deeply satisfying. By turns, it's funny and quirky, sad and struggling, soft and sweet, disturbing and eye-opening. And I thoroughly enjoyed it in all it's moods.

I especially liked the difficulties at the end and how they played out. See: you have to dig underneath. Sometimes things just aren't how they seem: in life, for other people, and for yourself. I'm so glad I read this and I'll be looking forward to other Christina Lauren books.

This book did not disappoint!! My favorite things about this book is: 1, Olive is hispanic and curvy. 2. So many Harry Potter references along with The Dark Crystal and The Walking Dead and 3. It's laugh out loud funny! I don't read too many funny books but this one is so fun! I devoured this book in 2 days. It just sucks you in! Such a great, quick read that has you laughing, shaking your head and even sweating a little. ;)

The Unhoneymooners will have you giggling throughout this read. Christina Lauren have down this fabulous job of bringing the laughter and bringing in the sexy heat in this one. Olive is a delight. You can't help but laugh at her misfortunes and every misstep along the way. Her twin sister Ami you really feel for her and the entire wedding party. Ami's husband Dane well you make your own judgement about that. And when it comes to Dane's brother Ethan you can't help but fall head on over heels for him. Ethan just has this way about him. And once everything comes out in the open between Olive and Ethan you will be left fanning yourself over them. I loved every moment of The Unhoneymooners and Olive and Ethan.

This book will be for me this year what The Kiss Quotient was for me last year – a sweet and fun rom-com summer/beach read. Olive and Ethan surmount innumerable hurdles to finally find themselves happily in love with each other. There were funny moments and hilarious one-liners throughout that kept me rolling through the pages.

I did find it very slow to start and that was a little frustrating. I was a little annoyed with Olive’s reaction to the culminating issue (#nospoilers) but when I remind myself that rom-coms are supposed to be taken more lightly, I realize that everything fit together perfectly in the end.

Overall, I appreciated Olive’s growth throughout the novel and her advocacy for being a curvy girl with no shame. We need more of this from authors! I liked the evolution of Olive and Ethan’s relationship, and I loved Olive’s supportive family and her relationship with her twin sister.

This is the second book I’ve read by Christina Lauren (the other one was Love and Other Words). If forced to choose, I think I prefer this one, but generally speaking, this writing duo masterfully writes the rom-com story!

The Unhoneymooners was AMAZING! It’s a laugh-out-loud, slow burn romance that had THE BEST banter and one-liners. From start to finish, this was everything I could have wanted. Amazing characters, storyline, and build. So freaking hilarious and full of so much heart. I absolutely loved it!

I had instant love for Olive and enjoyed her voice. I was laughing myself silly as all of Olive and Ethan’s history was learned. I adored their interactions and how they viewed each other and couldn't wait to learn the why behind it all. When they start to let their guard down and see each other in a different light, I had butterflies. I loved the nuance of their growing relationship, the sweet things mixed in with the bickering. There were so many humorous scenes between these two that had me smiling! When certain things come to light, I held my breath and felt all the emotion as their perceptions of each other were revealed. It was intense, honest, and real.

This is told from Olive’s POV and I have to say, I wasn’t missing Ethan's voice at all. I liked seeing things in him that Olive was missing. It was just incredibly well crafted. I kept barking out laughter because of Olive’s internal dialogue. This was hysterically funny and engaging but it was so much more. It's full of heart and angst and tension. I could feel that subtle build from the start so by the time the end came around, my heart was exploding.

Christina Lauren are go-to authors for me. I love how they create such rich characters and incredibly entertaining stories filled with sweetness, emotion, and heat. This story is low in the heat department but I never felt like it was missing. It was all about the building anticipation between Olive and Ethan as their feelings grow so when it happens, all the emotion and passion between them was already shining through.

This story was just perfect for me. Enemies to lovers stories are my jam and this was extremely well executed. I couldn’t read it fast enough and I never wanted it to end. The Unhoneymooners is officially one of my favorite books of 2019!

The duet behind Christina Lauren is one that I haven't read a lot, but every time I do I walk away saying "why don't I read more of these ladies" and The Unhoneymooners is no exception. Told from Olive's point of view, we get to see how the "unlucky" twin gets to take the trip of a lifetime with her nemesis and her luck apparently begins to change.
I enjoyed getting to know Olive and Ethan and seeing their dynamic change once they were spending consistent time together. One of the things I appreciated most was seeing how Olive's perception of herself changed through out the course of the story. She had to challenge herself to think about the idea of self fulfilling prophecies and what messages she was internalizing about herself - and as a result projecting out to the world.
As much as this is an "enemies to lovers" romance, it is also a journey of self discovery for Olive. It is refreshing to see a heroine who isn't perfect, but she is perfect for the right person. Olive embraces/acknowledges her flaws and also the fact that she maybe wasn't living her best life.
Ethan was a strong leading man, I would have enjoyed seeing more of the story from his point of view. The secondary cast was entertaining a had a perfect level of involvement to be interesting, but not over powering. There are several secondary characters that I am curious about and would love to see more of down the road.

Olive's sister is marrying Ethan's brother. After the hilariously horrifying wedding reception, Olive and Ethan's siblings are not able to make their nonrefundable honeymoon. They offer the trip to their siblings. Olive and Ethan are not friends. Olive and Ethan both want the trip, and aren't going to let a little thing like traveling with the enemy get in their way. As they spend time together, Olive and Ethan realize they are definitely not enemies.

Told from Olive's point of view. At first, it seems like she and Ethan have nothing in common. The romance develops as they realize they don't know one another at all, and their ideas of each other change.

As usual, the writing duo of Christina Lauren has written a humorous, fun, and sexy contemporary romance. A lot of humor, a little drama, and some downright silly situations make for an entertaining read. For me, this wasn't the best Christina Lauren novel, but I still highly recommended it for fans of Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating and My Favorite Half-Night Stand.

I received a free eARC of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was not bad... but it wasn't that good either. The thing is, I can't really point to one thing that stood out, but I can't point to one thing that made me particularly upset or unhappy. It was a decent way to pass a few hours, but once I finished, I basically forgot most of the plot and/or characters. I thought it was pretty predictable and sadly missing a lot of the witty banter that Christina Lauren is known for.

Pros: Olive's family, the Torres were funny and supportive--I wanted a lot more of them. Some of the physical/slap-stick comedy was chuckle-funny (but unfortunately not laugh out loud funny).

Cons: falls flat, predictable arcs, and didn't give me any feels.. good or bad.

I'll definitely continue to read Christina Lauren's work, but this was not my favorite.

(Star rating: somewhere between a 2 and a 3...)

When this popped up in my email, I wasn't sure what to think. I've wanted to try this author (these authors technically, since they're a team), but I'm not a huge fan of Contemporary Romances written in first person present point of view. These books always have a certain Rom Com vibe, and while I enjoy Rom Com movies, for some reason, I don't enjoy that in my books. I don't like when the heroine is embarrassed over and over (like in Bridget Jones' Diary for example).

The voice took me a bit to get used to, but the authors are funny and the book seemed fun, so it wasn't too difficult. I just really don't love that present tense. I've also discovered I don't usually care for first person point of view in a Romance. It works for me in Urban Fantasy, but it turns out I want the hero's point of view in a Romance as well as the heroine's. The main reason is that first person can make for an unreliable narrator.

Olive is maid of honor in her twin sister's wedding, and her entire life, Olive has always been the unlucky twin. This is a point that is beat into the reader's head over and over. Seriously. It's like the driving action for the first chunk of the book. Her sister has won the wedding, the vacation, the dresses, the food, well you get the picture. But what Olive doesn't see is that entering all those contests is practically a full-time job. Her sister isn't actually luckier than she is.

Ethan is the groom's brother. He and Olive have hated each other since they met. Or have they...

There's a food poisoning issue at the wedding, and Olive and Ethan are the only two who didn't eat the food. Her sister tells her that she and Ethan will have to go on her honeymoon. The catch is that they'll have to masquerade as the bride and groom or else they would have to pay for the free honeymoon.

The idea is so cute and fun and totally something I normally enjoy. But this one didn't completely do it for me.

This book was a mixed bag for me. I almost DNF'd it about 60% in. There's a scene where they are talking about something important, and Olive makes a skeevy comment. It's out of character and I hated it. I'm glad I finished the book, but this comment, this stupid throwaway comment was unnecessary.

I also feel like this book was too long. It was fun and funny, and then certain parts of it dragged, or seemed unnecessary. There's a subplot involving her sister and new husband that I just found frustrating. I won't spoil it, but I was really surprised that's the direction the authors went.

I feel like the ending was a great ending, and the book on the whole was good, I just don't think these authors are for me.

I almost always love Christina Lauren books, so I was very excited to see The Unhoneymooners pop up on Netgalley. After I requested it, I kind of forgot that I had it until about three days before its release, when I panicked and started reading it immediately. Luckily, this book was very fun and I read it in two sittings. The 432 pages honestly just flew by.

I always love Christina Lauren’s heroines. They’re usually goofy, clumsy, and often embarrass themselves. But they’re also confident, intelligent, and just the right amount of snarky. Olive is no exception. She has a bit of a reputation for being prickly, but she’s just honest. She doesn’t put up with any nonsense. I could probably learn a thing or two from her.

It’s not just their heroines that I love, though. Their heroes are great, too. Aside from a few rather frustrating scenes, Ethan was a great love interest. While he initially came off as kind of stand-offish (or even rude), once he and Olive got over their differences and actually talked, he was a great guy. I loved how particular he was about the food he’d eat because SAME.

I loved the way the relationship developed between Olive and Ethan. Enemies-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and Christina Lauren did it perfectly here. The teasing, the banter, and the turn to romantic feelings was done so well. Another of my favorite tropes? Fake dating. Watching Olive and Ethan pretend to be newlyweds while being so uncomfortable about it was great. I loved it.

So, why not five stars? There were a few things that didn’t sit quite right with me, but I think that getting into them would be kind of spoilery. I will say that they were still small enough issues that I flew through this book and ended up loving it. I’d highly recommend this to anybody looking for a cute enemies-to-lovers romance.

I love Christina Lauren and when I received this book I realized that I haven’t read from the duo for a while so I decided to catch-up a bit :) So I read ‘My Favorite Half-Night Stand’ and ‘Dating You/Hating You’ prior to this. As always they did an amazing job. As for ‘The Unhoneymooners’, it is not my favorite book of the duo. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a bad book, it was fun, entertaining and easy read but it just didn’t work for me.

Olive Torres and Ethan Thomas hate each other. However, since Olive’s twin Ami is marrying with Ethan’s brother Dane, they have to endure each other for 24 hours. Ami is a super lucky person, thanks to her luck on Internet contests and her planning, her whole wedding cost NOTHING. Yeah, you read it write, she didn’t pay for anything which is why Olive end up wearing a hideous maid of honor dress. Unlike her twin Ami, Olive has been unlucky all her life. But it seems like for the first time in her likes she gets lucky. Thanks to free seafood buffet, everyone in the wedding gets food poisoning other Olive, who is allergic to shellfish, and Ethan, who is allergic to buffets. Since the all expenses paid honeymoon in Maui is not refundable and the bride and groom is too sick to go, Ami insists that Olive and Ethan should take their places. Even though, spending 10 days in paradise with your nemesis doesn’t feel right, they decided to take the vacation and avoid each other as much as possible. However, running to her future boss when Olive was playing fake Mrs. Thomas, takes their fake marriage to a new level. Olive is smart, sassy and lively. Once she started spending time with Ethan and getting to know him, she realizes that he is opposite of what she believed. He is sweet, funny and really mature. Their hate for each other just started out of some misunderstandings and misguidance. Once they cleared the air between themselves, their fake honeymoon starts to feel real because they decide to act on their attraction. The only problem is after being isolated for 10 days in paradise, they are not sure how their relationship will work in real world. Being back to real life will bring drama to their fresh relationship and reveals too many secrets out.

‘The Unhoneymooners’ is fun, entertaining and easy read. I really enjoyed the banter between Olive and Ethan. I think it would be nice to read Ami’s story as well.

Would I recommend this book: Yes.
Would I re-read this book: Maybe.
Would I read future books by this author: Yes.

If you are a book lover, you are going to completely understand what I’m about to say. Each of us has a favorite writer whose releases we look forward to the way you would a cherry and whipped cream on top of a hot fudge sundae, the perfect day at the beach, or whatever equally amazing event or thing that brings happiness to you. This is how I feel about when I get to begin a Christina Lauren book.

Within the first few pages of The Unhoneymooners I was laughing out loud and then it became constant until there were little snags and disagreements, and sadness and heartbreak; I was there every step of the way. As I was nearing the end, I stopped reading just because I wanted this magic to continue a little longer.

So Olive and Ethan end up on their siblings honeymoon, which they think is going to be good and awful at the same time. Good because it’s Maui; bad because it’s with each other. Soon, however, they discover that they’re enjoying each other and one thing leads to another.

I loved the characters. I loved all the characters. Frankly, I’m jealous of Olive’s family. I would love to have a big boisterous family who is in each other’s business, who loves and supports and is just there the way Olive’s family is. I loved how self-aware they were. I loved Ethan. I did not love Dane, but then I wasn’t supposed to so that turned out okay.

Everything about The Unhoneymooners works as the perfect romance. The pacing is perfect, the events unpredictable, except where they’re supposed be predictable. The grand gesture was funny and heart warming. The Unhoneymooners is a good-hearted novel. And I want to read it again…immediately!

If you want to read a novel that is charming, funny, heart-warming (without being sickly), sometimes slightly irreverent, and romantic, read The Unhoneymooners. I can’t recommend it highly enough. I LOVED this book!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Unhoneymooners was a delightful throwback to both Christina Lauren’s stint writing fanfiction and the summer after my junior year of college when I read basically nothing but fanfic, staying up until the wee hours of the morning because I needed to know what happened in whatever story I was reading. Was I exhausted? Yes. Was the story going to be there in the morning? Also yes. Should I have made better life choices? Absolutely! But there was just something so cozy about reading a chapter and then trying to articulate a response that adequately expressed how much I loved something I’d just read—and The Unhoneymooners brought me right back to that place.

Even though Christina Lauren do a lot to make it seem like the events of the book could happen, the story still relies on its tropes: enemies to lovers! forced cohabitation! fake relationship! Our main characters dislike one another but still end up going to Maui on an all-expenses-paid honeymoon vacation? Where they must share a room? And fake a relationship for her new boss and his ex-girlfriend? GIMMIE.

I read The Unhoneymooners in two sittings, gleefully turning the pages because I was so engrossed in the story. Ethan and Olive had such chemistry that I needed to know if their faux relationship would ever turn into a real one—or if the tension that fuels any romance would come off as trite or eye-rolling. (Reader, it did not.) I literally laughed out loud at some parts and then giggled from others. Could this story ever really happen in real life? Probably not—but did it matter? The unbelievability of such circumstances never felt forced or overwrought, and I was so into the story that I don’t know if I would have cared, either.

Unlike in My Favorite Half-Night Stand, the romantic drama of our two protagonists was relatively lighthearted in comparison to the relationship between Olive’s sister and Ethan’s brother (which definitely impacted both the story and their own relationship, but not in an oh my god come ON kind of way.) We got to experience their blossoming relationship in real time as Christina Lauren gleefully threw what ifs? at the wall to see what stuck. What if Olive and Ethan were forced to spend time with one another? What if they had to pretend to be in a relationship? And what if they didn’t want to pretend anymore—what happens then?

I know that Christina Lauren books are often hit-or-miss, but The Unhoneymooners deserves a try. It’s a romantic comedy with laugh-out-loud humor and authentic dramatic tension. It focuses on the relationship between two sisters and their huge extended family. And, if nothing else, it leaves you yelling at its main characters to just hurry up and bone already. (Which isn’t always the point, but, you know… 😉)

Note: Ethan and Olive are less enemies and more do-I-really-have-to-spend-time-with-you irritation, and the sex scenes were 100% fade-to-black, but otherwise I really loved this!

Hey friends! I’m so excited to be sharing this new review with you all because not only is it for one of the most buzzed about books of the Summer, but because this is my first Christina Lauren book!

I need to give a big thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the authors for giving me the opportunity to read and review this early. I knew the moment I saw this on NetGalley I had to request it because A) all of my favorite bloggers were talking about this one and B) the cover for this was too pretty not to be good!

I’m a sucker for a good enemies-to-lovers story, as I think most of my friends and followers are as well, so I like all the tropes that are present in this novel. It also kind of has that forced proximity feel as well, considering they’re on a vacation together, alone. There was so many moments for hilarity, sexiness, and tropical adventures and this book delivered all the things I was hoping for except one; sexiness. Let’s discuss, shall we?

First and foremost, I loved almost every single aspect of this book. It had me laughing out loud at some points and simultaneously crying at others. I thought the pacing was nice, which I was honestly a little worried about considering the bulk of this story takes place on an island during a vacation. The writing was witty, meaningful when it needed to be, and I felt completely sucked into the story and it felt very real to me, which is important when reading contemporary books like this one.

Also, I have a supreme love of asshole heroes who turn decent and that is exactly what Ethan Thomas is. He was so snarky and funny and handsome and I can’t even express how much I adored him throughout this book. Olive I liked, (I thought she was kind of ‘stupid’ and annoying at times, although funny) but Ethan I loved. I also really appreciated the relationship that Olive shared with her sister. Being an older sister myself, I could really relate to their relationship and their bond; my sister and I are not twins, but I feel that connectedness with her the same way Olive felt with Ami. It was probably my favorite aspect of the story, especially because of the non-romance plot that is happening and the way it tests their sisterhood and relationship.

What I disliked about this was the actual romance scenes. They started out so so good, and in the end it was all fade to black. Literally. I like my romance books to have really steamy, sexy portions and I can’t even hide my disappointment with the lack of this. I think that had this book been a touch more on the ~romantic~ side, it could have been favorite material.

Overall this book was a hilarious romp through a tropical island between two unlikely lovers and I really really enjoyed it. I can see why the book community is raving about this and if you’re interested in a more PG-13 romcom then I think you’ll really enjoy this one

Many thanks to NetGalley, Gallery Books, and Christina Lauren. This is the first book I've read by this author duo and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I was in the mood for a more light-hearted book and this certainly fit the bill.

Ami and Olive are identical twins with very different personalities. Ami is confident, in charge, and very lucky - always winning sweepstakes and contests. Olive, meanwhile, Olive has a hundred stories of how her very bad luck has caused issues for her. At Ami's wedding to Dane, a nasty food poisoning virus hits almost everyone in attendance except Olive and Dane's brother, Ethan, because they ordered special foods and didn't eat the buffet. Ami insists that Olive and Ethan take their free honeymoon to Hawaii because there is no way to change dates. The only problem is that Olive and Ethan don't like each other. They have to pretend that they are Ami and Dane and newly married. Once on the island, Olive and Ethan find themselves in hilarious situations and must acknowledge that they are attracted to each other. When they meet Olive's new boss at the resort, they are forced to keep up the marriage lie, which causes problems once they return home.

Just a fast, enjoyable read. Loved seeing both Olive and Ami come into their own skins a bit more while realizing the important things - family and loyalty. 4.5 stars!

What opens as a twin sister dealing with the bridezilla tendencies of her sister, morphs into an epic disaster of a wedding reception. The two lone standing survivors of said disaster are our heroine and the groom’s brother/best man, oh and they hate each other. After the bride and groom offer their free, non transferable free honeymoon to them both they are forced together for 10 days in paradise. What could go wrong? Or right?

Olive and Ethan were likable characters. Their distaste of the other is believable and sets the tone for them to of course need the other to pretend to love and ultimately like each other. While circumstances keep throwing them into more affectionate situations, they actually start to admit attraction. When they begin to communicate and admit real feelings, they discover much miscommunication that’s occurred. Needless to say they fall and it’s sweet. Til it’s not.

The secondary characters here played a huge role in how the story played out. Olive’s sister, Ami, we find isn’t as demanding as her wedding would depict; but she’s blind to the lies that are revealed. So is Ethan for that matter to his brother’s dishonesty. Safe to say I hated the Dane character, the ultimate douche. Olive’s family as a whole were funny, intrusive but generally there for each other in the best way.

While this is definitely an enemies to lovers story. It’s also a story of being blind to our own wants for the sake of others. Olive has to basically lose everything to begin to focus on her own happiness. Ethan and Ami both had to be confronted and banged over the head with the truth to fight for what they need. Ethan’s grand gesture was fantastic, but I will say that we lose some of the experience of their chemistry at times. Overall, it’s a solid fun read.

Snarky, slow burning, perfection!

Olive and Ethan love to snipe at each other and that’s about all the love they have for each other...or is it? Having to take their siblings’ honeymoon in paradise means 10 days of snarky comments but it also means 10 days of getting to know one another and falling for each other.

The Unhoneymooners is a less steamy version of Christina Lauren but what it lacks in super sexy times it makes up for with a heroine who isn’t afraid to change herself for herself! I really liked the slow burn as it felt natural for the development of Olive and Ethan’s relationship. I also loved the arch of Olive’s self identification and relationship with not only Ethan but her sister and brother-in-law too.

I’m super intrigued by the epilogue and would love to see how that story developed!

I received a complimentary review copy of this book but all opinions are my own.
