If I could rate zero stars I would. I kept hoping the writing, the storyline something would get better but, it did not. Total waste of time. Terrible

Just wow what a fantastic book! Can’t stop reading I was drawn so much to this story all the twist and turns kept me reading! Like all Linda Huber books I was totally involved in the experience and emotions of the main characters. The storyline is fantastic! The tension kept me guessing til the end! I was not deceived by stolen sister and I would definitely recommend it. I know that I will still think about this book for a long time.

I've had this book for years, I still haven't, unfortunately, got to it, so this is a placeholder review to reduce my shelf for my own sanity, but will replace this if I ever get to the book

This book starts with a heart breaking tragedy that has your heart in your mouth from the beginning.

When a fire breaks out in the hotel where Paula and husband are staying with their 5 day old baby, their friend Sylvie takes the baby Erin without informing anyone. When Paula's auntie takes on the other 2 children and has them taken from her, Sylvie decides the best thing for her to do is keep Erin, the baby.

Maisie reveals this information to her niece Vicky on her deathbed it sets into motion a chain of events that leads to Sylvie's life crashing down.

I'm not quite sure what genre you would put this book into. There is an element of chick lit, an element of a thriller and also a tragedy which kind of confuses things a bit. However, despite this, it is still a very enjoyable book and I found myself flying through the pages. Written in 3 parts the story moves from Sylvie making the decision to bring Erin up herself, to the search for her by her sister Vicky and ending with the family discovering who Sylvie really is.

There seems to be a lot of characters in this story but it was easy to keep track of who was who, and as each chapter is labelled as certain dates it's easy to see what happens and when so you don't feel like your getting lost with timelines or people.

I found the subject of this book interesting. I've never really read a book that deals with adoption or lost family before so it was good to read something different to what I'm used to. It made a really nice change for me and it was so easy to read I managed to finish it in just 2 days.

I felt the ending was good and didn't leave any unanswered questions and I finished feeling satisfied. There were sad parts of this book which add to the emotions I felt as a reader. I did guess one of the "surprises" though but that didn't take anything away from the book for me.

Would highly recommend to anyone that enjoys easy, fast reads that is looking to try something a little different to the usual books on their shelves.

The idea of this novel had me intrigued, but unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations. The resolution of the novel felt rushed, and I was left with a lot of unanswered questions and unsatisfied. It was very disappointing.

A family tragedy.

Paula and Joe have taken their six-day-old daughter Erin with them to a school reunion. Their other two children, Vicky and Jamie, stayed behind with their elderly aunt, Maisie. There is a terrible fire at the hotel where they are staying and Paula in desperation, throws baby Erin out of the window to her friend, Sylvia. Neither Paula nor Joe survive the fire.

Maisie is left looking after Vicky and Jamie, but when things get too tough for her to cope with Jamie’s cerebral palsy, they are put into a foster home.

Maisie tries her best to keep tabs on Sylvie and the baby but caring for the other two children seems so much easier without the baby. It’s only on her deathbed that she admits to Vicky she had lost touch with Sylvie who was looking after her baby sister immediately after the fire and had no idea where either Sylvie or Erin was.
Vicky decides to trace her long-lost sister.

Christine has no idea about her past. She’s been brought up to call Sylvie Mom. How will she react to finding her whole life has been a lie?

I enjoyed this story but found the characters somewhat lacking. Sylvie is possibly the most complex of all those involved in the uncovering of this long-held secret, and that is only because of how complicated her character is.

Linda Huber is a competent writer and the book was uncomplicated enough to be a quick but enjoyable read.

A suspenseful and twisted domestic drama!

this was a compelling story about the bonds of family. The type of tale that will completely hold your attention throughout. Linda Huber has crafted a compelling story packed with wonderful characters and a interesting storyline.

How would you react if you found out you had a sibling that you never knew about? 22 years ago three siblings met with tragedy, two of them were taken in by their great aunt Maisey. The youngest child was thought to be dead, however she had been wisked aWay by a family friend, Sylvie. Vicky and her brother Jamie who had CP ultimately were sent to foster care. Fast forward to present day... Aunt Maisey is on her deathbed and let Vicky in on the secret that her little sister Erin is still alive. Erin Who is now called Christina has no idea that she has any siblings. Christina has just found out she’s going to have a child of her own, and she does not want history to repeat itself.

I really liked the sisters and I wanted so much for them to find their way back to one another. This is a story about the draw of family and the power of love. A book that will keep you up late into the night turning those pages, determined to stay up and find out what will happen. Perfectly paced and full of sympathetic characters, Recommend!

Drawn in from the get go. A suspenseful psychological thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. How will things turn out for the characters, who are very well developed and easy to get attached to. Some parts can be a bit slow, but in turn it somewhat helps with the buildup, the suspense.

Sylvie slowly goes mad after losing her friends in a fire. But she did gain something from it, their 6 day old baby. The baby, Erin, has 2 other siblings who were in the care of their great aunt Maisie at the time of the fire and thus, survived. Maisie is an elderly lady struggling to care for 4 year old Vicky and an even younger child, Jamie who has cerebral palsy. She at first thinks Erin did not survive the fire, but learns from a phone call from Sylvie that she is safe and sound in Sylvie’s care. Sylvie offers to care for baby Erin while Maisie gets the other two children sorted into their new lives without their parents. It becomes harder and harder for elderly Aunt Maisie, so when Sylvie repeatedly calls Maisie to reassure her of Erin’s wellbeing and offer to keep her longer, Maisie agrees. Meanwhile, Sylvie keeps coming up with excuses to keep Erin. She starts lying to her neighbors and boyfriend about her as well. She starts packing buying baby things and making plans she shouldn’t.
One day, Sylvie stops calling and is no where to be found. Maisie desperately wants Erin back with her family and searches for Sylvie with no luck, only to get a picture of Erin in the mail one day and a message that clearly states it will be the last time she will be contacted about Erin and to leave them alone. Having not told anyone about Erin, Maisie is at a loss. And has lost the other two children to foster care, it’s all she can do to at least be there as much as possible for the Vicky and Jamie.

Fast forward twenty two years. Maisie is on her death bed when she confesses Erin’s existence to Vicky. And right before Maisie’s last breath Vicky promises to find her. But this proves almost impossible because of the lengths Sylvie went to to keep Erin untraceable.

Erin finds out she’s expecting a baby of her own. Sylvie confesses her adoption and the two don’t meet eye to eye for a bit. Sylvie tells Erin they should go for a trip, just the two of them, so she can make up for what she’s done. Erin reluctantly agrees, but the trip turns into something very unexpected.

Will Vicky succeed in finding Erin? Will Erin survive Sylvie? Will Sylvie have the last word and Erin’s baby as well?

When I first started to read the book. After Erin’s parents where killed. Vicky and her brother went to stay with great aunt Maisie, but as Vicky was only 4 and Jamie her brother was severydisabled. She found it so hard, on top of that there was Erin who had been taken with her parents in light of her only being a few days old. After the explosion that killed Vicky Erin’s and Jamie’s parent, so when Sylvia offers to look Erin to give Masie time to get Vicky and Jamie sorted, I was not. In the least bit supprised wth what syiliay did next. Although ii was still enjoyable, I actually thought it it was going to be pretty much similar to most books Vicky finds Erin and they all Live very happy together,no to my suprise and delighte when Vicky was caled to her great aunt maiises bedside because she was dying, 22 years later was the first Vickie learned of Erin’s existence Maisie told Vicky About Erin. Vick promised to do everything in her power to find her. It was actually a amazing story and far from predictable. With all these twists and turns going of, It was sad at times, especially for Jamie,. Christine ( Erin) also found out Sylvia had lied all those years never telling. That she’s had been adopted.. I have only more or less told you what you read on synopsis. There’s so so much more I could say but I am not going too, it definitely would spoil the book for you, it really would. Things in the book are just not straight forward at all, when I said at first I thought it was going to be a little bit predictable, I should have know it was got to be nothing predictable about it not with Linda Huber. As the author, she’s a fantastic writer and loved all her books, I genuinely do not think this lady knows how to be predictable to be hones. It’s also one of those breathtaking moments in many places book. Superb absolutely blooming, a real edge of the seat ride of your pants book. You have to read this book honest to goodness you will be missing out in a big way if you do read, Linda Huber as once again surpassed her self as she does with evey book she writes. Amazing

Twenty-two years ago, Erin and Vicky’s parents were killed in an explosion. Now grown up, Erin and Vicky – who have been separated – are unaware they are siblings. But when Vicky is called to her great-aunt’s deathbed, she learns that she isn’t alone after all. But where is Erin? Vicky’s search begins…

Elsewhere, Christine has problems of her own. In the first week of her new job, she makes a disturbing discovery, and is struggling to come to terms with impending motherhood. Vicky is almost ready to give up her search when an old foster mother calls with shocking news.

Loved this book from start to finish. The poignancy of the storyline and the main character drew me in. This is a great book for lovers of a good thriller, the storyline never lacked suspense or credibility throughout. A nicely rounded and satisfying finale!
