A life affirming truth even in the gorilla community.
I remember years ago my sister asked me to go with her to the doctors when my nephew was due his jabs. She was worried her son would blame her for the pain and discomfort and wanted to cloud actual responsibility.
Well here is a delightful book that envisages just such a scenario where mum’s know best, they look after their children so much. I’m glad it is phrased in this way rather than because they love you so much.
A mother’s care includes ensuring you eat your greens; not sure why broccoli get such a bad press and you dress appropriately. In addition they ensure you keep to your medical check ups. Especially vaccinations and this is the story of holding mum’s hand and getting that shot.
It is a simple event that impacts upon the life of all young children so why not learn how baby gorillas cope when there supposed to be brave and not cry.
The illustrations fill the pages and make up for the simple words in the narrative. In each scene there is so much going on a whole new story can be spoken about. Two mice running for the bus and subsequent appearances.
The fundamental message is Mom always looks after me so much. Not a sloppy tale but a practical one that resonates love and care. A snapshot of life, parental nurturing and support. But immediately real and allowing one’s child to add the words to define this special relationship.

I chose to review My Mom Always Looks After Me So Much! because I like the cover illustration and my interest was piqued by the title. It is a sweet story but I was more taken in by the deceptively simple yet detailed illustrations. I know preschoolers would enjoy hearing/reading this book during Valentine's Day and Community Helpers weeks in school or at home before a checkup. An adorable and niche look at a small primate struggling with the doctor. I adored the art style and the story in general.

A sweet and lovely story with wonderful illustrations.

I found this book "My Mom Always Looks After Me So Much!" by Sean Taylor really sweet and very colourful, any young child will love. Every page was beautifully illustrated throughout, especially if you go go into more detail with them and make up different stories about each animal etc and memories of special moments you have with your child.

This book would be good especially for nurseries and small play groups as well and make a good group discussion/role play with the small children.

This book will be purchased for my special nephew. Just perfect throughout and especially good if your child is worried going to see the doctor etc.

A cute little story that can be read to a child who has to visit the doctor.
Adorable illustrations and simple text make this book an easy read.

Taylor and Barrow's book is really cute with wonderful illustrations. Little Gorilla needs to go to the doctor. He doesn't really want to go but he understands why. His mother sees to all his needs and going to the doctor is one of them. In the closing scene, Little Gorilla forgets the candy his doctor gave him on the bus, so they go back to ask if he can have another. On one hand, this is a children's book and solidifies the character's view of living in a very friendly and caring world...on the other hand, this can be interpreted as promoting his sense of "entitlement." I prefer to think of the scene as promoting "community" and "friendliness" than anything else which works great for the story as a whole.

I couldn't figure out whether I liked this book or not. The illustrations are beautiful and together with the title promised a great read. I love the fact that from the title we expect a cutesy, soppy story and are instead to some extent treated to little gorilla's irritation (expertly shown in the pictures more than the text itself) about his mother fussing over him. His voice is very strong (aided by a first-person perspective) and really conjures up the attitude of a young child. In that sense I think children would relate very well to this.

What I wasn't sure about was the story arc, as it seemed rather simplistic and the story came to an end quicker than expected. The part about the candy then seemed to be trying to stretch it out and it felt like the start of a different story.

The art on this is so beautiful and draws you in, a nice story about a little gorilla with his mum going for his first vaccination. The story shows children how much their parents look out for them and how much they are willing to do for them. It’s a lovely story although I think the parents will appreciate the message more than the children. But it does good in showing kids vaccinations aren’t scary and about appreciation. A lovely read and such beautiful illustrations.
