Grace Fisher is newly widowed and she's trying to keep hearth and home together, paying bills, taking care of the children, making jam to sell, and taking care of her farm, all the while being pregnant with child number three. It's not an easy job, but someone had to do it.

Elijah Beiler lives next door and helps his father with their farm and when he can takes care of Grace's farm. He observes Grace doing so many things, he wonders why she doesn't just take care of her children. He feels that's she's too concerned with her business to the detriment of her children.

Rachel J Good has built a story around prejudices and incomplete understanding, and the ability of two people to overcome those blocks in their relationship. It's truly a five star book, two thumbs up, and a jar of Amish made jam.

My thanks to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley.com for allowing me to read and review this book.

This is the third book in the Love and Promises series. Even though that is the case, it easily stands on it own. Which is a good thing as I have not read any of the other books, yet. I did not feel as if I missed out on anything by not reading the other stories that come before this one.

The Amish Widow’s Rescue is a sweet, clean romance that deals with forgiveness. All the descriptions in this book draws you in and you can help but feel what this family is going through.

A lovely, and emotional read about a hurting family and their journey through the pain.

It’s always a good book when the characters, although well developed and likeable, have flaws and faults that make them human. Such is this book by author Rachel Good. Grace has become very protective of her family and very resistant to a relationship because of past hurts, yet still tries to honor her husband. Elijah protects the widow and orphan, yet stands in judgement because of past hurts. Both allow God to lead and heal in a wonderful way. Grief and forgiveness are tackled in this story in a big way.

This book was a fun read, but don’t mistake that for being light and fluffy. We see a new widow, a man who has been deeply hurt, and a young woman struggling with releasing her child through adoption. All are very emotional topics, and yet Good adds light heartedness to the story so that the reader isn’t bogged down emotionally.

Book three in the Love and Promises series, you can read it as a standalone but I would encourage you to read the series. It’s very well written and I always learn new things about the Amish community from Good’s books. Pick up a copy today!

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

The Amish Widow’s Rescue by Rachel J. Good is the third book in her Love and Promises series. Though part of a series, this can be read as a standalone novel, but I will definitely go back and read the rest of this series. Grace Fisher is newly widowed and expecting her third child. She has been responsible for everything on the farm for a few years, so she’s determined to raise her children and manage her jam making business without assistance. As is the Amish custom, for the first year after becoming a widow, the community and neighbours assist with chores, the family and money, but Grace wants to stand on her own two feet. Elijah Beiler is Grace’s reclusive neighbor. His past has left him distrustful of women, and he thinks the worst of Grace. As he spends time with her children helping to take care of her farm, his impression changes and he comes to care for her and the children. Can they get past their issues and mistrust to move forward together and form a new family?

I loved this story. The Amish Widow’s Rescue is completely engrossing, and once I started it, I read through it quickly. The characters are fully-developed and relatable. The issues that both Grace and Elijah had dealt with were problems that occur in all communities and faiths, and were realistic. It gave them both a human and relatable side that made this story even more emotional. It was sad to see how Elijah and Libby had been affected by their father’s treatment, yet kids are resilient and Elijah in particular is adorable. The themes of forgiveness and trust are huge in this story, especially when the people you need to forgive are no longer in your life. Leaving is another issue that is explored and huge when it comes to leaving children. Grace also learns that it is okay to accept help from others, that you don’t need to do everything by yourself, something many people have difficulty with. As I said above, I loved this story and recommend it to anyone who enjoys Amish Fiction or Christian Fiction.

An Amish Widow’s Rescue was a tale that held my interest from the very beginning. Pregnant and newly widowed, Grace must make a decision how she will provide for her family in this new position. It would be easy to rely on the community to help, but Grace wants to do what she can for her family. Her neighbor misreads all her hard work as neglect of her children by putting her business first but soon learns the importance of not misjudging the situation. As the story develops, many relevant topics are discussed like adoption/grief after giving one up for adoption, stress for moms who juggle so much, and the hurt of a parent who has left the home.

The characters began to realize that their life plans were not the best plans but they must seek God’s plan for their lives. Their lives might look different than they had originally planned but it would be so much better than they could have imagined. One of my favorite quotes from the book is, “Fighting against His plan for her life had only led to more pain. Surrendering brought acceptance and comfort.” When they begin to surrender to His plan, God brings forgiveness and new chapters in their lives.

As a mom of two younger children, I felt as if I could relate to Grace and her urge to be all things to her community and successful home while still raising her children with love. The book was a fiction story that introduced me to new friends I was eager to spend time with as I read the book. I have read books by Rachel Good but not any books in the Love and Promises series but it did not interfere with my understanding of the book or characters. It did make me add the others to my reading list, however!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own and I was not required to leave a positive review.

Rachel Good has become one of my favorite authors. In addition to her quite compelling storylines, the characters in her stories have depth. They are each unique and have their own individual sets of struggles, flaws, fears, and faith. Both Elijah and Grace have experienced heartbreak from family members. Grace struggled during her short marriage with a verbally abusive and unreasonable husband. After his untimely death, Grace is determined to take care of her children and provide a happy, loving, stable home for them. Even though Elijah had trust issues in regard to women, he stepped out of his comfort zone to help Grace in her time of need. Grace, in turn, needed to set aside her independent nature and accept the much-needed help. Both needed to learn to communicate better, and as the story progresses, we see both Elijah and Grace learn to trust God’s faithfulness in any situation.

There are some difficult themes in this story: postpartum depression; abandonment by a parent; spousal abuse; and the grief that comes of giving a child up for adoption. Yet, all through the book, the story is never morose. There’s a message of hope, faith, and love for the characters that can apply to our own lives as well. I’ll be reading this one again.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

I did not want to put this book down. This story was a bit different than most of the Amish fiction stories that I read. I loved how Grace and Elijah first meet and soon becomereluctant friends. They both had some problems to overcome during their lifetimes. This was one of my favorite books this year. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

The Amish Widow’s Rescue by Rachel J. Wood is the third A Love & Promises Novel. Grace Fisher has been married for four years to Melvin and they have two children with another on the way. When Melvin passes away, Grace must rely on her jam business to support her family. She finds it hard to take care of the house, farm chores, make jam and keep an eye on the children. Grace appreciates her neighbor, Elijah Beiler helping with the farm chores, but she dislikes accepting help from others. Levi is three years old and instantly takes to Elijah. While Elijah is friendly, he tries to keep the Fisher family at arm’s length. After her marriage to Melvin, Grace is reluctant to trust another man with her heart.

Elijah Beiler cannot stand by while Grace struggles to care of her family. He volunteers to do the farm chores to help alleviate her load. Elijah is a bachelor and plans to stay that way. He knows that loving someone will only get your heart broken, but he admits that he is attracted to Grace and little Levi is hard to resist. As he spends more time with Grace and her family, he begins to wonder about being with them fulltime. But then someone Elijah never thought he would see again enters his life and brings back the hurt and pain. What does God have in store for Elijah and Grace?

The Amish Widow’s Rescue can be read alone if you have not read the previous novels in A Love & Promises series (but why not read all three of these charming books). The Amish Widow’s Rescue is a moving story. The story has depth and it is an emotional read. Grace Fisher loved her husband, but Melvin changed after they married. She did not like how Melvin treated her and the children. Grace does not have time to wonder about what if’s, because she needs to earn money to support herself and the children. Her jam making business has taken off and the orders keep pouring in especially after her niece, Miriam sets up a website. Grace has trouble accepting help from others, but that is exactly what she needs. Elijah steps in to help with the farm chores, but he wants to protect his heart from getting hurt. It is hard with the lovely Grace nearby and little Levi who enjoys spending time with Elijah. There are multiple storylines in the book (I do not want to say too much and spoil it for you). I enjoyed this well-written story with its appealing characters. I thought it was realistic, and it was interesting to learn more about the jam making business. The Amish Widow’s Rescue is an engaging story that you will not want to put down once you start reading. There are two phrases from The Amish Widow’s Rescue that I wanted to share. The first is “if this is God’s will, He’ll help you work everything out”. I find this to be very true. “You should never let pride keep you from speaking what’s in your heart” is the second phrase. How many of us are guilty of this one? If you are looking for a heartfelt and complex Amish novel, then pick up The Amish Widow’s Rescue.

As I was turning the first pages of this book and cringing, and feeling sorry for this hurting Amish family, I quickly became involved in their lives.
I could picture those little ones afraid to be children, and then dealing with death, and having to explain that not everyone was going to leave and never come back.
The theme of leaving and forgiveness is prevalent here, and the author uses great examples to keep your attention with some great examples that apply to everyone.
I enjoyed this story, and it quickly became a page turner that ended way to soon! Loved that the author gifts us with an epilogue!

Rachel Good has quickly become a favorite author of mine. Her books exhibit a talent in bringing us "down to earth", dealing with challenges in the Amish community that each one of could experience in our Englisch world. This book is the third in the Love and Promise series, but can be thoroughly enjoyed as a standalone. I had read the first two but I have to admit that this novel was outstanding in its depth and emotion.

I found myself deeply involved with the characters from the first chapter. Each character was described so realistically that they were easy with whom to identify. I walked alongside them on their rocky road of life. They sure had their hills and valleys. The hurts each hit me very deeply. Made me really think ! What would I do in that situation?? It was obvious that God was working through their lives in a very special way.

The plot was filled with unexpected twists and turns, keeping the reader engaged from beginning to end. The issues that were addressed were ones that are rarely seen in the Amish genre, described with understanding and grace. The hearts of these dear ones had to change in order to forgive themselves and others as well as to allow them to love unconditionally, as the Lord wants us to.

Will I be reading more by this author?? YES!! I definitely will be waiting for Rachel's next creation!!

This is a fantastic read! Don't miss it!!

The Amish Widow's Rescue was such a good book! If you are a fan of Amish fiction, this is one that you will not want to miss. It is book three in the series, yet can be picked up and enjoyed as a stand alone novel, too.

I really liked these two main characters. Grace and Elijah both had compelling reasons to fear romantic commitments. They both had trust issues, yet Elijah couldn't help himself where Grace was concerned. He went out of his way to help Grace and her children when she was widowed. I loved the way he stepped up for them.

Grace was in such a difficult situation. My heart really felt for her throughout the entire novel. She started off as a wife in a verbally abusive relationship. She quickly became a widow and had to confront her feelings of relief from being free from her husband and his tirades. She also felt sadness and guilt as she questioned how she ended up in such a bad marriage. I loved the way she cared for her children and did her best to make things right for them.

The romance that bloomed between Grace and Elijah was very well written and believable. Watching both characters begin to open up and trust someone when they had been hurt in the past tugged at my heart.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

The Amish Widow's Rescue by Rachel J. Good
(Love and Promises Book 3)
The perfect family awaits...if only he'll risk his heart.
Pregnant and recently widowed, Grace Fisher is determined to provide for her family on her own. Thankfully, her jam business is popular in her Amish community. But it's difficult keeping up with her work, her farm chores, and her two mischievous children. Especially now that they've taken to idolizing their neighbor Elijah. While the handsome farmer is kind and generous, he seems intent on holding Grace and her little ones at a distance...
Elijah Beiler has always admired his neighbor Grace. So standing by while she struggles to support her family isn't an option. Offering to take over her farm duties, Elijah is determined to help while remaining detached. He knows all too well that love only leads to heartbreak. Yet the more time he spends with Grace and her children, the harder he finds it to leave each day. But can Elijah overcome past hurts and open his heart to this ready-made family?
This is Grace Fisher and Elijah Beiler's story.
Graces children Levi and Libby.
Melvin Fisher and Grace Fisher.
She needed to hurry. The encounter with the doctor had made her late for the milking, and Melvin would soon be roaring for his supper. With Libby clinging to her, Grace fed and watered the animals. Usually she requested Levi’s help, but right now it would be faster to do it herself.
Then, hugging Libby close, she rushed to the first stall to milk Daisy. After settling onto the stool, she shifted her daughter in her lap. It wasn’t easy doing chores with a child in her arms, but she’d learned to do many things while holding her babies. If she’d soon be adding another little one to their family, the practice would come in handy.
Grace dreaded telling Melvin the news. Most Amish men were delighted about having children, but Melvin’s moods could be quite unpredictable. He might be noncommittal, or he might rage.
After wiping the cow’s udder with antiseptic, Grace began the rhythmic motions of squirting milk into the pail. The familiar ping of liquid hitting the metal calmed her nerves. Levi joined her as she prepared to milk the next cow, so Grace put Libby down and placed Levi on the stool in front of her. He was old enough to do chores now. Although it would take much longer, she guided his small hands as he cleaned the cow and struggled to get milk.
Elijah Beiler and his father.
Elijah Beiler had just helped his father back into bed when someone banged on the back door. He had no wish to speak to anyone. For years, he’d been a recluse, avoiding church on Sundays, despite being censured, and occasionally meeting the truck driver who collected his milk for the distributor. Most of the time, though, he could leave notes for the driver. If families in the community needed help with a barn raising, he’d attend but volunteer for one of the more solitary jobs.
He intended to ignore the light banging, but a shrill child’s voice shouted, “Help!”
The yell came again. Praying it wasn’t a prank, he rushed to the door. His neighbor’s little boy stood on the doorstep. “Something bad happened to Daed. Mamm said call the bu-wince.”
A child. Elijah’s gut tightened. He did his best to avoid children ever since his sister…
three-year-old Levi Fisher is pulling on Elijah heartstrings.
Elijah steps in as a neighbor to help her out with chores.
I highly recommend reading.

The Amish Widow’s Rescue by Rachel J. Good is part of her Love and Promises series. Even though third in a series, this captivating book is easily read as a stand-alone story. Ms. Good knows how to craft characters who tug on the heartstrings, giving them realistic and relatable emotions and reactions. I loved each one of them! Grace, a young widow, wounded, scarred and filled with grief, guilt, and regret. Elijah, a bachelor who was abandoned as a young child and has sworn off women. Miriam, a young childless mother. Levi, the youngster who tells his Mamm, ‘Everybody has a daed. We need one.’ Their lives are intertwined and their stories draw the reader in right from the start. The romance between Grace and Elijah is fraught with tension-filled twists and turns which keeps the reader wondering if they will ever be able to get be able to give into the growing emotions they are feeling and express their love. This is a charming and heartwarming story and I will continue to look for more to read from this talented author.

I love this book and The Amish Widow's Rescue held my attention from beginning to the end. The characters are fantastic and the storyline is rewarding and fulfilling. Author Rachel J. Good's writing is marvelous and I enjoy reading all her books. The Amish Widow's Rescue is Book Three in Love and Promises.

I received a copy from the author, but was not required to review it. This review is one hundred percent my opinion.

It is a true blessing that Grace Fisher has a successful jam business. Grace is widowed, pregnant and has two small children. As a mother on her own in her Amish community, things will not be easy. However, it becomes apparent that Grace needs help. When neighbor and fellow farmer Elijah Beiler offers to help Grace, he wisely holds her at a distance. This is especially because he begins to develop strong feelings for her.

Elijah does the responsible and neighborly thing. He assumes her farm duties. As time wears on, however, he spends more and more time with her and the children, and his feelings indeed become attached. There are problems, however. There is the customary grieving period that must be met, and Elijah has reasons of his own to protect his heart.

The Amish Widow's Rescue is the third story in the Love and Promises series and it is incredibly touching. I found this story to be much deeper than the first two. There were issues explored when it came to Grace's relationship with her husband before his death that I'd not seen in the Amish stories I have read. This made this read exceptionally emotional and I felt so bad for Rachel and the children.

This was an incredible read that I devoured in one sitting. This story drew tears of sadness, but I am glad to say that those tears were replaced with those of joy. Rachel J. Good is an exceptional writer and I will definitely keep on reading her books.

Although this is a singular story that could work well as a standalone, I would definitely recommend reading the first two books in the series, The Amish Teacher's Gift and The Amish Midwife's Secret.

Many thanks to Forever and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is book three in The Love and Promises series. I enjoyed reading this story. When I first started reading I felt bad for Grace and her two small children. Melvin is Grace's husband he has lost his job and hasn't been the same since. He's always yelling at the children especially if the are too loud or make too much noise.

Elijah Beiler is their neighbor, he can't figure out with a mother of two small children why she always has so much jam. Why is she always making so much. She has more jam than she has food in her refrigerator. Elijah brings over some food for them so the children can have something to eat. Why doesn't Grace have food in the house? Why all this jam?

This is a story about faith and forgiveness. It is a page turner and you won't want to put it down. I loved it and recommend it to others.

I can’t use heartwarming enough to describe this story. The characters had issues to work through but I enjoyed getting to know them all. Grace’s three year old son Levi had my heart right from the start with his speech impediment.
Becoming a widow at a young age with two young children to take care of, a jam making business to keep up and finding out she’s expecting nearly sends Grace over the edge. Her teenage niece Miriam moves in to lend a helping hand and give emotional support.
Next door, confirmed bachelor Elijah tries to help by milking her cows and collecting her chicken’s eggs each morning while working his own dairy farm. He is also taking care of his dad who has a hard time getting around and tires easily. Elijah has a hard time trusting women after his mother left when he was eight and took his baby sister with her.
Grace has a hard time accepting help from others and Elijah has a hard time with trust so its interesting to see the interaction between these two.
Amish stories are some of my favorites and this one was an easy read that I finished in record time. And I’m using the term heartwarming once again because it truly was one that held my attention and gave me a warm fuzzy feeling when I finished the final page.
I received a complimentary ebook copy from the publisher through Netgalley but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise.

Highly engaging, instantly captivating, and undeniably gripping, Rachel J Good has written a masterpiece! She is quickly becoming one of my favorite Amish fiction authors. With realistic characters and palpable settings, this is a novel that's easy to keep the pages turning.

One thing that I absolutely loved about this story, was that the romance didn't feel forced or added out of necessity. With a friendship initially forged through hardship, Grace and Elijah's affections for one another blossomed despite their intents to prevent that from occurring. It's true that people helplessly carry their past relationships (romantic or not) with them through life. It was remarkable to see the healing that both Grace and Elijah experienced the more they were willing to let go of their pasts and look forward to their futures.

Elijah is one of my new favorite heroes. He initially found himself forced out of his comfort zone out of a feeling of duty, yet swiftly found his heart changing in ways he never would have expected. He wasn't perfect, but he was perfect for Grace. I admired that he was a man with his own hurdles to face and not merely the knight coming in for the rescue. I truly appreciated the realism.

This is the third book in the Love and Promises series but it could also easily be read as a stand-alone. Although there is an important connection between Grace's niece Meredith and her midwife friend Leah, it's a small piece of the storyline and it's summarized for the reader.

I highly, highly recommend this story to Amish fiction fans! I absolutely loved it and look forward to reading more from Rachel J Good in the future!

When Grace’s husband dies suddenly, neighbor Elijah helps with the children as she accompanies her husband to the hospital. He helps with her chores as she manages two children, a baby on the way, a jam business, and household duties. Elijah is distrustful of women after what happened in his own family. The two find themselves being drawn to one another in her year of mourning. The Amish in this novel are more progressive than in many others as they use technology in business with the bishop’s approval. It was an enjoyable summer read embracing truths without being preachy. I received an advance review copy through NetGalley with the expectation of an honest review.
