A cold case comes to life in Lena Diaz's second installment of The Mighty McKenzies series! I was on the edge of my seat many times throughout this story. The intrigue was top notch, the main characters were well-developed and easy to like and sympathize with and the romance in the midst of such turmoil was comforting. Really loving this series and the McKenzies ... looking forward to more!

Ten years ago Remi Jordan's twin sister disappeared into the woods, never to be heard from again. The cops couldn't find any true suspect to pursue and they eventually set it aside. Remi let the injustice of not having answers fuel her passion to right a wrong and has spent the decade since as an FBI agent determined to one day find her sister.

National Park Service agent Duncan McKenzie thinks he's come across a crazy person when he first sees Remi on a trail. Hours of chaos and confusion pass before he realizes her truth and sets out to help her find the answers she's looking for. She might be on to something with this theory of hers about the park ... and he's going to enjoy spending time with her as they investigate.

Duncan is a special investigator for the National Park Service stationed in the Smokey Mountains National Park and he meets FBI Special Agent Remi when she is on vacation in his park. They meet in a flurry of fire when she shoots another visitor to the park and claims that it was self-defense. What she's hiding is that she is not really on vacation, instead she is working on her own time to find a serial killer who she thinks may have killed her own twin sister a decade earlier. Duncan and Remi decide that they must work together when another woman goes missing in the park. If there really is a serial killer at work, lives are on the line. The intensity of the situation creates a connection and an attraction between Duncan and Remi that they find they can not ignore. I definitely was rooting for them to find a HEA.

I thought this was a great suspense thriller. There wasn't any gore, rather all the fear was in your mind. Fans of Heather Graham would enjoy this writer and I would be interested in reading the other books in this series.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for making this advanced reading copy available to me so a review. I really appreciated the chance to read this book.

Remi's twin sister went missing 10 years ago and managed to come up with a pattern and been using herself as bait. That is until she was caught by Smoky Mountains investigator Duncan in a compromising situation.

I like a good mystery suspense book and this book did it for me. I loved how loyal Remi was she never stopped looking for her sister and at this point she was just looking for the person who was behind everything putting herself into dangerous situations to finally find who was behind everything. It was interesting seeing what she would do to put herself out there to try to capture the person. Then there was Duncan he was only doing his job making sure to keep Remi in his eye, I mean she was clearly suspicious when they met and he had a job to do and make sure shes no danger. I loved as the story gone one more would be revealed, a few attempted on life would be made and a bit of a romance made things all the more interesting. Overall really good book I really enjoyed it.

From first to last page Smokies Special Agent keeps readers connected to Remi and her desire to put the bad guys behind bars while seeking the person who killed her sister.

The Alpha Male Duncan has a big heart and lots of love. Readers won't be able to keep from falling in love with this tender love for Remi and her quest becomes his.

Lena Diaz is able to create characters that readers will stick with readers long after they close the book.

While it is a Harlequin Intrigue it is one of the best blend of action, mystery and romance.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Harlequin Intrigue for advance copy of Lena Diaz Smokie Special Agent.
