Lone Star Standoff
Lone Star Justice #6
By Margaret Daley

Three years ago they killed her husband and now that she is presiding over the trial of one of their own the cartel is sending Judge Aubrey Madison a message. With the safety of her children and mother in doubt, Aubrey does the only thing she can think of - call Texas Ranger Sean McNair.

Sean has been working to stop the cartel that took the life of his predecessor Samuel Madison. Sean also suspects that the cartel is responsible for the disappearance of his younger brother Jack. With the cartel obviously working to delay or derail the trial Sean, his fellow Rangers and the local police are about to have almost more than they can handle. And when word of a potential mole is learned Sean's list of trusted protectors shrinks considerably.

With time working against them Aubrey and Sean must go back to the past and learn just what Samuel and Jack were involved in to find a connection to what is happening now.

Lone Star Standoff is the sixth book in the Lone Star Justice series and it can be read as a standalone with no effect on the reader's enjoyment. As part of the Love Inspired Suspense collection one can be assured of suspense and romance but in a clean presentation that won't leave the reader with an unsettled after-taste. And if you like suspense that keeps you in the dark as to who is the perpetrator well this one does an excellent job keeping the reader clueless.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher with no expectation but that I offer my honest opinion - all thoughts expressed are my own.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

I really enjoyed this story. The characters and the plot were totally believable. I loved how Aubrey and Sean didn't fall in love right way but you could tell there was a chemistry there. Aubrey is a judge presiding over a hearing of a drug cartel member. She finds a dead rat in the trunk of her car. She immediately calls Sean, who is a Texas Ranger. He took over a position in Company D that was opened up with the death of Aubrey's husband several years earlier. After the initial investigation into the murder Aubrey's husband Samuel, neither Sean and Aubrey have any further contact with each other.

This story follows events that take place during the hearing. The pace of the story is fast with action after action taking place. I loved having a dual POV. Giving insight into a character's thought process really helps me to fully understand that character so much better.

I adored Aubrey's children, Sammy and Camy a great deal. The 4 year old twins really brought a great dimension to the story. I highly recommend this story to anyone especially if you enjoy a suspenseful romance.

I used to read this line of books on a regular bases. For a mystery/suspense fan, this was the line of books to read. It had a little bit of everything. Thus, while it has been a long time, it is like coming back home.

Aubrey is great. She was thrown everything from a dead rat to a snake. Yet, she may have had her nerves rattled but she did not cower. She stayed strong. Of course, she had help in the form of sexy, and strong Sean. He was her guardian angel. There were sparks between these two. It was steamy. Aubrey and Sean were great but Aubrey's two twin children Sammy and Camy did steal a little of the spotlight with their cuteness. Cute children make for an enjoyable read.

Back to the overall story. There was plenty happening within the pages of the book to keep it interesting. In addition, to the fact that I really liked all of the characters, made for a fast read.

While deciding the outcome on taking down a drug cartel, Judge Aubrey and her children seem to be in danger after a series of threats and close calls. Sean McNair Texas Ranger is on the case and protecting Aubrey and her children.

This was a really good book, normally I don't gravitate towards book that have cartel kinda stuff going on but in the end I found myself enjoying this book more then I thought I would. I loved that there was so much going on to keep things interesting. Then there was that blooming attraction between Aubrey and Sean. I loved that the children didn't totally fade into the background where they quickly get mentioned and disappear off the face of the planet. I loved getting to see the characters piece everything together and it was just a fun ride is all I have to say. Overall pretty great book I enjoyed it.

Judge Aubrey Madison is widowed with two children, she is presiding over a case involving a drug cartel. But when she finds her life being threatened, FBI agent Sean McNair steps up to offer protection.

As the threats draw nearer, Aubrey and Sean work together to bring them to a stop. Sean is dedicated to his job and feels called to serve others through his work. He is a strong Christian, and despite his hold ups about family he fits in well with Aubrey's. Her children connect easily with him, and he finds himself surprised by how much he enjoys them.

Fraught with tension, this was an engaging read filled with suspense that I didn't want to put down. I admired both Aubrey and Sean who are both driven individuals who have already accomplished a lot in their lives. A page-turning suspense with strong faith and fantastic characters. Action-packed, with great growth and development of characters.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

With high tension mafia court case, several intense and personal cold murder cases, and two adorable twins this tale puzzled, entertained, and delighted.
The suspense in the story escalated as the court case moved forward and the mafia cleaners did their best to hold the proceedings at bay. The last quarter of the book was filled with surprising twists and deadly action. I liked how logical and realistic the investigation, and the clues, were to me as they unraveled the past and present cases at the same time. The fear was tangible, the threat concrete, several times the protagonists were in a situation where their lives, and their loved ones, were in serious, potentially deadly danger.
Judge Aubrey Madison and Texas Ranger Sean McNair knew each other from before, from Aubrey's husband's murder investigation sometime before. [This time frame kept fading in my mind - was it right at the twins birth, or was it two years ago? Was it the reason Aubrey wanted to be a judge, went back to work when the kids were just months old or were she already working as one when her husband was murdered? Was it my mind wondering or were there timeline confusion, I never figured that out, but none of those points were not big enough issues for me not to enjoy the story.]
I liked how even though the feelings between Aubrey and Sean were developing rather fast, there was a feeling like they took their time to get to know each other, and were careful with their developing emotions. Those emotions felt genuine and true, from the apprehension to jump into the relationship, to the deep feel taking root.
The inspirational message of trusting God in good times and the bad times, to lean on his understanding, guidance, and protectiveness was well twined into the tale so that it was part of the development of the characters while inspiring the readers.
Love Inspired stories are the few ones out there that can be heartening, entertaining, potent, and intense all at the same time - Lone Star Standoff definitely was all of that

This novel is packed with suspense, drama, mystery and romance. Aubrey Madison finds herself as judge in a major trial. When her life is in jeopardy she must rely on the handsome Texas Ranger, Sean McNair, to help her stay alive and maybe solve the mystery about who killed her husband years ago.

I love the connection and sparks between Sean and Aubrey. There are many twist and turns in the novel. I look forward to reading more from the Lone Stare justice series.

Lone Star Standoff by Margaret Daley was a suspenseful read with a sweet romance. Aubrey is a widowed mother of twins. He husband was a Texas Ranger that died on the job and has her extremely cautious of falling for someone in a dangerous position. She is a judge and the current trial has put her in danger. She calls Sean who is a Texas Ranger to help. He balances investigating the murders and strange happenings while also trying to keep her safe.
The book is full of action and suspense. The author did a great job on the romance. It was sweet and realistic. In addition, the mystery and suspense were woven together with the skill of an experienced writer.
Although there were several deaths there was nothing graphic. The author created adorable twins that lightened the more serious moments.
I would definitely recommend this book. It is the first one I have read in the series and will go back to read the others. I suspect that Pierce has his own book.

This is another great story by Margaret Daley, who knows how to write a book that’s both suspenseful and romantic. Sean and Aubrey make a terrific couple. Aubrey is a strong, resourceful woman who has suffered great tragedy. Sean has experienced loss in his family, too, and as they both work together on this case, they are drawn closer together because of their loss. I especially enjoyed the “family” aspect of this story as Aubrey’s five-year-old twins added both some fun to the story, as well as a little extra suspense for their well-being.
There’s a thread of faith that runs through the story as Aubrey learns to trust God to protect her family.

This storyline has quite a few twists and turns in it to hold your interest all throughout the story. I was never quite sure what was going to happen next. Readers of Christian suspense will enjoy this one.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

I enjoyed this book. Aubrey is a judge presiding over a big trial. I enjoyed the interactions between her and Sean, the Texas Ranger she calls when trouble starts. Sean is trying to find out what happened to his brother while also trying to solve the case of who murdered Aubrey's late husband.

There are several cases that are going but the main focus is keeping Aubrey and her family safe. Her twins are probably my favorite characters. You could just see their little personalities coming through the pages. I enjoyed the suspense, the romance was good, I wasn't thrilled with how it ended but it wrapped everything up nicely.

It was a 4/5 for me.

"Lone Star Standoff" is a romantic suspense novel. The suspense came from repeated attempts to hurt the heroine and derail the trial. The hero protected her while also working to solve who is attacking her and who killed her husband and his brother two years ago. She doesn't want to get involved with a man in dangerous work like police work, but she falls in love with him over the weeks they spend together. He had no intention of getting married, but he falls in love with her. Except, I kinda got the feeling he fell in love with her cute, twin kids and she fell in love with how well he got along with them. Anyway, the hero and heroine got along and worked together well. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this exciting novel.
