Kept you guessing until the end. Intertwining characters and their stories makes this a fascinating read.

See the above synopsis....This novel kept my attention although none of the characters really won me over. I didn't particularly care much for any of them. As their stories were revealed I couldn't help but think how all of them thought it would be a good idea to go on a week's vacation together staying in the same house! Surely, someone should have seen a problem with this. This lapse in judgment continues when these people don't make it past the first night before all hell breaks loose.
I barely agree with the comparisons made to an Agatha Christie mystery but that's a stretch. This was more of a nod to Big Little Lies and I think most who enjoyed that would enjoy this. Characterization and atmosphere not as compelling to the story, however. I read this fairly quickly and it certainly made for a good almost-summer-read-at-the-lake novel. I recommend it but it won't change your life. Thank you to Netgalley/Crooked Lane Books for the advanced copy.

I loved this for many reasons. One I can see being in a town and not having alot of friends. I would believe that a little get together among your neighbors could lead to secrets being told and small tensions as the night gets long. I loved the almost immediate build up to the death of one neighbor.
Two lets talk about our newly promoted Detective. She is quick witted. Shows the real insecurities a newly appointed detective would have and rebounds quickly as she dives into the three couples involved.
Three the couples themselves are dealing with real problems that many couples face in marriage from lying, financial trouble, marital affairs, and general issues of marriage. Most people in a committed relationship at some point has dealt with one or all of the issues these couples are dealing with and I commend that. All the characters are well developed. All the characters are real in their story line.
I found that this story was a solid read that I thoroughly enjoyed beginning to end.

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Thanks NetGalley!
This author's previous book is amazing, so i had high expectations coming into this.
The story goes back and forth in time which always keeps me intrigued.
i wasn't disappointed with the book, i'd recommend it to others.

A quick read and while it wasn’t the most original concept, it kept me engaged throughout. I enjoyed this mystery/thriller!

While I enjoyed this book, I wouldn't necessarily consider it to be "unique". I've read lots of stories with the same premise - in particular, it reminded me of Jessica Strawser's "Not That I Could Tell", which I enjoyed very much, but felt that this kind of had a similar concept and was "a repeat". Of course, if I'd read this novel first, would I feel that way? I'm not sure. But I definitely felt as though this wasn't an original concept. The writing was good, however, and I can appreciate that!

Three couples rent a beach house in the Hamptons for a few days while their kids are at camp. The couples are hoping for a relaxing time to get away from their stressful jobs (mostly lawyering, doctoring and parenting) and everyday lives and to get to know each other better. Then someone is murdered. Let me just say, that as much as I would love a few days in a beautiful beach house with friends, I wouldn't choose any of these couples to hang out with. Explosive tempers, lies on top of secrets, lots of booze and some pills to boot might sound like fun for some, but what might not work out in real life turns into a slightly better than adequate little murder tale.
This was a fast read, and not a really deep one. I did wonder throughout whodunit, although I had a strong suspicion. Not a complicated novel, but one that touches on abuse, rape and women's roles at home and the workplace. The plot was just slightly beyond believable in its entirety, but reading it was a decent way to escape for a few hours.
Thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Land Books for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
3 stars rounded up to 3.5

Part mystery part thriller, This book follows three couples who go on holiday together. After an explosive first night, one of them is found dead on the beach. But who committed the murder? And why?
An interesting book with a satisfying ending. The writing was good although the story fell a little bit during the middle. All in all it was good. I’d recommend this to fans of Liane Moriarty.
I received an ARC of this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed in this are my own.

This is a fast paced domestic thriller with plenty of twists to keep you entertained.
This is my first book by this author and I enjoyed it. My only criticism would be that the characters could have been set up better as it was often difficult to identify them as they merged at points.

An amazing fast paced book, which makes you turn pages as fast as possible and want to know more! Characters done so well, you actually feel their emotions and understand their actions! A must read for my fellow lovers of the same tension filled books!
Will make sure I highly recommend to the members of Chapter Chatter Pub!

This was a quick read. I liked the mystery. And I liked the Detective in charge of the case. I did think that some of the plot wasn't as wrapped up as I would have liked.

Loved this book. Loved this story.
I'm not going to summarize what this is about. You've probably already gotten that far. So I'm going to tell you why you should read this book.
The story is interesting, and suspenseful enough to keep you guessing with a few suprises thrown in.
The writing is engaging. I feel like I know these people. And I want to know more about them, such as what happens next.
It tells a story of domestic abuse, and shows you how easily it could happen to you.
It tells the story of different marriages and how the face other people see isn't the whole story. I was drawn into each relationship
So why didn't I give it 5 stars? Although I loved all the characters, reading from so many points of view, with back and forth in the timeline threw me a few times. I had to stop and think "wait, which person is this?" . But overall I loved this book, and will be looking for more from this author.
Thanks to netgalley for an advance copy of this. I did not let it affect my review. .

I really enjoyed this one! My favorite part of this book was the scenery the author had such a vivid way of writing the layout and the location I felt like I was on the beach myself this would be the perfect read to take on vacation or sit by the pool and dive into. Lots of flawed characters with deep secrets the mystery itself was well written and kept me interested definitely a perfect summer read!

Such a good read. Thank you so much for this great chance, I have and will continue to recommend this book

Let me start this review off by saying: if you are a fan of Liane Moriarty’s Big Little Lies, then this book is for you! Big Little Lies was my favorite mystery of all time…until One Little Secret by Cate Holahan. Cate knocked this one out of the park, for me!
One Little Secret is full of mystery, intrigue, suspicion, lies, deceit, and everything else that makes a great drama-filled-domestic-thriller. It was so amazing I devoured it in one sitting — I just couldn’t put it down. There were times along the way I thought I had it figured out…many times I should say…but I didn’t. I had it all so wrong, and my guess is you will too. One Little Secret is one of those rare books that I want to go back and reread to see what clues I missed (because there are always clues, right?). But, sitting back after the big finale I can’t say that I really saw them. As a lover of all things mystery, this surprises me that I missed clues. Lately, I’ve been a bit disappointed by the mystery book selection. I have figured out many of the top sellers within the first few chapters, but Ms. Cate Holahan brought back my love for the genre with a bang. My hope is this book gets just as much hype as Big Little Lies and we also get a television series. I would love to see this new book come to life on the screen!
Currently One Little Secret is scheduled to release on July 19th; it would make a perfect beach/summer vacation read. I suggest you preorder it now, so you don’t forget; you won’t regret it!

One little secret kept me guessing through the whole book. 3 couples rented a beach house and one turns up dead. Cheating spouses, fights about money and power. Who finally had enough. So many twists to keep you on your feet and wondering who did it. I gave this book 4 stars because it was a good quick read that kept me intrigued. I found the writing style a little hard to follow in some points but overall a great read.

One Little Secret=way too many secrets and lies to go around.
This is a murder mystery that will keep you guessing. There was good character development; this is just a story that I really had a difficult time getting thru.

The story is a whodunnit in the Hamptons. It has drugs, alcohol, secrets, naughty parents, and people who think that they’re above the law. It’s told from multiple perspectives: each of the six neighbors and Gabby the detective. We get to know each character in flashbacks and events in the days before, during, and after someone ends up dead. There is also a side story that is connected to the main plot and further ties the characters together.
The neighbors are upper-middle class parents with successful careers as a doctor, attorney, tech CEO, and writer. None of the neighbors are particularly likeable and they don’t even seem to like each other. I didn’t connect with any of the characters but the storyline is very engaging because it’s about people making really bad decisions. Any one of them could have been the victim or a murderer, so that’s what makes it so interesting.
As the story progresses, I learned that nothing is as it seems and these people are more than just casual neighbors. These six people share more than fences and playdates. They are involved intricately in many unexpected ways.
I like that this story has unusually diverse characters – black, white, Filipino, Middle Eastern – and none of them were stereotyped. It does have a few trigger topics such as domestic abuse and rape, but it’s written very respectfully.
This book is about secrets, marriage, betrayal, murder, domestic violence, assault, addiction, family, and love. I like this book so much better than Cate Holahan’s first novel, Lies She Told. This book has a steady pace, many twists, and reveals that made my mouth drop. The last 20% of the book was the most exciting part where all of the truths were exposed and I flew through it. Great story!

I wanted to love this as I am an avid reader of mystery and thrillers. After the first few chapters I was underwhelmed and struggled to get through to the end. Easy read with an intriguing though largely out of touch social dynamic, as the writer takes you through the lives of three affluent couples on vacation in Hamptons. Each individual begins to reveal significant secrets once a body is found on the beach. A heads up to potential readers, triggering situations involving domestic violence are also revealed. Thank you Netgalley for providing me this advanced copy in exchange for an hoset review.

I enjoyed this book. I usually have somewhat of an idea on who did it, but this book had me guessing until the very end. And it sure wasn't what I expected! Good book, I would definitely recommend
