Very light reading, in fact throughout most of the book, i couldn't keep the characters straight, esp two of the women. the men were drawn more clearly. The story was ok, a lot of false clues thrown out there, but not a book that grabbed my attention emotionally or intellectually

After reading this book, I'm still not entirely sure what the "one little secret" is. This book fits nicely into the domestic noir genre -- a genre that examines horror in the form of the stranger sleeping in your bed. However, there may have been too many issues crammed into this book. I mean, I understand the concept of wanting all of your suspects of having a plausible motive, but c'mon now, was that side plot about the surfer guy house totally necessary? I certainly cared enough to read to the ending, but didn't find the story (or characters) particularly gripping or satisfying.

I received a copy of this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review - thank you NetGalley! This book falls into my current favorite genre of suspense/crime so I was very excited to receive it. I really enjoyed this book. In my personal opinion the author did a good job of not giving away the ending early on in the book which is always a good thing in this genre. I love when I read a book and can picture everything that is going on and I could very much do that with this book. I would recommend this one to anyone who enjoys this type of book!

An interesting suspenseful sort of book filled with secrets of suburbia. What happens when all those secrets are set loose while on a beach getaway? Enjoyable beach read.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

What do you get when you put three married couples in a beach house with tons of alcohol? Secrets spilled and total disaster. Susan thinks she's forging friendships with her new neighbors when she plans a beach vacation for all of them. However, during their first dinner together, one of the couples have a huge fight and infidelity is revealed. The next morning, Rachel is found dead on the beach. But who did it, and why?

This book was interesting and kept me guessing as to who killed Rachel. What I enjoyed about this book was the dynamic between all of the couples. The difference between a loving couple with communication problems and a couple with serious abuse issues. It held my attention and was worth the read!

One Little Secret by Cat Holahan was a book that once I started reading it, I really could not put it down!!! Plot twists that are delightfully unexpected with characters that the reader wants to know better. I could relate to the insecurities that Susan had in trying to make friends and feeling a bit lost when it came to confidence and identity. She books a house for three couples to share, only she doesn't expect that one of her new found friends would end up dead. As they each become suspects, more secrets are unraveling all the way to the very end of the novel.

Author Holahan writes with skill and a clever way of allowing the characters to really get underneath the reader's skin so that the reader isn't sure who the killer is. The detective, Gabby is smart and genuine...even feeling regret for treating someone as a suspect when she finds out that person did not deserve it. Definitely found the ending satisfying!!!!

I can actually see this novel as a movie...with all the side plots and twists... edge of your seat in some scenes and sitting in soaking up the drama in others.

Trigger warnings: Rape and domestic violence

Not bad, but kind of sped through the last third of the book. Another abused wife story, but well written and entertaining,

“Everyone has a secret. For some, it’s worth dying to protect. For others, it’s worth killing.” Three couples take a relaxing vacation in the Hamptons together after sending their children off to camp. Susan planned the trip as an opportunity for her and her husband to get to know the other couples —their new neighbors— better. After only the first night, marital tensions, work conflicts, and secrets are revealed, AND one of the woman are found dead.

Fast paced. Compulsive. Intriguing. I wanted to keep on reading until I found out who did it. The ending was a pleasant surprise. Overall, a very enjoyable read that I would recommend to anyone!

Nicely done mystery/thriller. It took a while to keep all the characters straight and to figure out whose perspective was being told. None of the characters were likeable, which makes a book harder for me to get into, plus slightly forgettable.

I really enjoyed One Little Secret by Cate Holahan. This is about three neighbor couples who rent a vacation home together when their kids go to camp for the summer. Unknown to all, each has hidden motives and connections. Susan simply wanted to develop friendships to make her autistic son life better but the rest are not quite as innocent. After a night of drinking and an awkward argument one of the spouses is found dead on the beach.
The twist is not unexpected but done in a way that leaves the reader satisfied.

I did feel the story line with the au pair needed more of a conclusion. It was thrown in as a plot device and we are left with questions.

I look forward to reading Cate Holahan’s previous books “Lies She Told” and “ The Widowers’ Wife” as well.

Thank you to #netgalley and #crookedlanebooks for the advance copy in exchange for my review.

I enjoyed reading One Little Secret. It's a Agatha Christie like Murder Mystery, though there are more serious than I remember from AC, issues women are fighting against for ages and louder in the last few years. Two of these things are domestic violence and rape next to a lot of others things like women betraying other women instead of helping each other.
Though the heavier things aren't there to create an voyeuristic effect, they nonetheless aren't that easy to take in. Especially when you are a woman you recognize all the mechanics and they might at best make you feel angry or shake your emotions – depending on how close you are to these forms of violence.

Other than that, this book kept me guessing at who the murderer was. The story hides it's secret quite good. There are six characters who all in time seem guilty so I changed my suspicions every now and then. One Little Secret actually has a lot of small secrets and also some messages both genders should take to heart.

Thank You Net Galley, Crooked Lane Books and Cate Holahan for a chance to review One Little Secret.

A new family moves into the neighborhood and with an attempt to bond with others invites the other 2 couples for a joint vacation at a beach house with the kids away at camp. Everything is glassy and perfect on the surface but scratch it, lies and secrets emerge. There's an extramarital affair, there's another imagined affair that causes anguish and pain, there's physical and emotional abuse between a couple and to top it all there's a lawsuit against two of them forced on by the third. All the tensions and frustrations of marriage and friendships break open and leaves one dead with all the others as suspects.
This is a very engaging and compelling thriller by Cate Holahan, I loved how each and every character has been flushed out beautifully, the insecurities and vulnerabilities that threaten the self esteem of a person playing havoc in life, and the effects of alcohol drinking with strangers. There's much being discussed in the book but it can be read smoothly and effortlessly and that was impressive. This is my first book by the author and now am off searching for all the others and I am hoping Gabby Watkins follows in another series.

One Little Secret is the perfect title for this book. Three couples decide to rent a beach house for the week and what ensues is mayhem. The author really develops the couples relationships with each other and about each character. It delves into what we see on the surface and what is really going on. The intermingling of wives and husbands is well written. Add to this story is Sergeant Gabby and her drive to find the killer of a vacation gone wrong.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a chance to read and review.

I enjoyed this book with an intriguing storyline which keeps your interest. The slow reveal of the truths and lies and the extra details about the relationships between the characters add to the suspense. I like that this book made me think about who did it and why right up until the end. A great book.
