I really enjoyed The Stillwater Girls. It was first experience with this author and this mystery/suspense thriller was a great place to start. It was fast-paced and a super quick read! I thought it was very enjoyable and would be a great place to start for someone who is just getting into thrillers. I found it very interesting how the two point of views intersect and I didn’t see it coming before it was revealed. This is definitely a book you could finish in one day. Look forward to more from this author!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher Thomas & Mercer, and author Minka Kent for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

Description
Two sisters raised in fear are about to find out why in a chilling novel of psychological suspense from the author of The Thinnest Air. Ignorant of civilization and cautioned against its evils, nineteen-year-old Wren and her two sisters, Sage and Evie, were raised in off-the-grid isolation in a primitive cabin in upstate New York. When the youngest grows gravely ill, their mother leaves with the child to get help from a nearby town. And they never return.

My Review
This psychological thriller The Stillwater Girls is one you do not want to miss. This ARC was provided in exchange for my honest opinion and I can tell you it's a great read. The characters are well written, the plot is believable, yet dark and scary.

Definitely recommend if you enjoy suspenseful thrillers.

This was a very interesting book from the beginning and then it just got more and more entertaining. I really enjoyed all the revelations that happened. I thought the characters were well rounded and the plot moved itself along really well. I would read more books by this author in the future.

This book is a psychological thriller/suspense and has two POVs: Wren (19 year old girl) and Nicolette (30 something year old woman).

The story starts off with what seems like two completely separate stories. We have Wren and her sister Sage living alone in a remote cabin. And we have Nicolette who desperately wants to have kids. She lives with her husband who is a famous photographer.

Both of these stories were very interesting and I really wanted to find out how the strings would become connected.

This story had some very interesting facets. I was taken by Wren and her sister living in a remote cabin and being unaware of the rest of the world and was reminded of the long ago movie Nell. I was intrigued by Nicolette and her suspicions about her husband. I quite enjoyed the interesting twists and reveals. Overall I thought that this was a wonderful mystery.

Everything was going well with this book until close to the very end. You know when a terrible reveal just kills an otherwise-okay book? That's what happened here, and I can't recommend it.

The book is split between of two points of view. One chapter is a 19-year-old girl called Wren, who lives with her two sisters and mother in a dilapidated cabin in the woods. This primitive existence is all they have ever known, isolated from the rest of the world. The main rule is never to venture into the woods. Then their youngest sister gets ill and their mother must head out to get help. Months pass, and supplies become scarce. Wren realises that, to survive they must break the most sacred rule and leave the forest.
The next chapter was from the point of view of another woman who believes her husband is having an affair in modern day New York. The odd juxtaposition of the alternating character was a little jarring at first as you’re not sure where this fits into the narrative and what is going on. How the two stories are linked in a mystery of twists and turns and shocking reveals. It was definitely a book that had me gripped.
The plot may be a little implausible at times, but it was all tied together with some brilliant characters and excellent storytelling.

First off I want to thank @netgalley and the publisher for my advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Stillwater girls is an extremely fast paced gripping thriller. It's non stop action packed from beginning to end.

The characters are solid and felt realistic, the story was dark and chilling. There are some aspects that I was questioning the reality of but it was still an unputdownable book for me. Read it from beginning to end in one sitting I couldn't leave it. I loved the double POV between Nice and Wren. It was hard to understand how they would fit together and how they did I was not expecting that at all.

If you're looking for a fast paced thriller that you won't be able to stop reading. Definitely pick this one up!

The Stillwater Girls
Psychological Suspense/thriller
Minka Kent, author

Another exhilarating novel by one of my favorite suspense/thriller writers. The title alone had the bayou effect and drew me in. Intriguing character development that displayed courage, conviction and strength. Ms. Kent just keeps getting better and better with each of her story-lines. The book blurb was another draw in, but did not even touch how Brant and Nicolette Gideon fall into the story-line. Two seemingly separate story-lines, Ms. Kent does an amazing job of bringing them together with a heart wrenching twist and an end that I did not see coming. Get this book now and read it for yourself. I highly recommend it. I was afforded an advanced reader copy from the author and I voluntarily chose to leave this review.

The Stillwater girls

They were raised in isolation, taught to fear the outside world.
Two sisters Wren and Sage are left alone in their cabin while their mother seeks medical attention for their younger sister Evie.
Months pass and Evie and their mother haven’t returned. When a man, a stranger shows up on their door step Wren and Sage flee braving the unknown.

This book honestly took a different turn than I was expecting, and I think what happened in the second half of the book was unrealistic if it were to happen in real life. But it made for a fast paced entertaining read.

This book looked great when I first saw it but now I am realizing it just wasn’t for me. I think that this will be great for many people but not for me at this time.

This book had so much potential. It was engaging, fast-paced, with interesting characters and intriguing mystery. But the endings, plural. were just too far-fetched and contrived. Ask me to suspend disbelief once for an otherwise well written book, no problem. But four over-the-top plot twists? I can't.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview this ARC of The Stillwater Girls by Minka Kent.

Wren and Sage are looking into the face of death. Winter is quickly descending upon them, and they have been left all alone. Their mother and sister left them weeks ago, with no sign of returning, and the only life that the small family knows is an off-the-grid life, with no electricity, plumbing, or modern conveniences.

But these two sisters are forced to act when an unwanted intruder breaks in and threatens their well being. Will the girls be safe on the "outside?" And what will they learn about themselves, as well as where they come from.

The best way I can describe this book is one that really tries. It has a great skeleton of a plot and potential to be great. However, it just wasn't as strong as I hoped it would be. There was still a lukewarmness to the whole story, and the ending got to be a bit over the top, too much to be believable.

Sisters Wren and Sage have always lived in the woods of the small town of Stillwater, NY.  Their mother kept them hidden away and without any influence of outside society.  Mother always told them of the dangers and evils of the world outside of their homestead.  However, Mother left Wren and Sage months ago with their sick little sister Evie in order to get her medical treatment.  Mother has yet to return and supplies are dwindling as winter approaches.  When a man comes to their cabin in search of them, the sisters panic and flee into the woods.  They arrive at Nicolette Gideon's home on the outskirts of Stillwater.  Nicolette offers them help and the girl's sudden appearance creates a stir in the small town as well as opening up some mysteries from the past.

The Stillwater Girls is a gripping thriller that I binged in one day.  Told through alternating points of view between Wren and Nicolette; I was immediately caught up in Wren's circumstances trying to survive a winter in the New York woods with primitive supplies.  Nicolette's viewpoint took me a little longer to get into, a wealthy woman in her 30's who believes her marriage is struggling due to a emergency hysterectomy 10 years ago.  I did like that I could not figure out the connection between the women until closer to the end of the story.  The pacing of the story was steady as suspense builds with the sisters having to flee and Nicolette not knowing where she stands with her husband.  As their stories intersect, mysteries unravel.  The ending tumbled together quickly and I was thoroughly unprepared for the revelation at the end and the secret that was held on to for so long.  Overall, The Stillwater Girls is a consuming psychological thriller with plenty of twists and turns.

I received a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review. I was not a fan of the multiple character perspectives in this book which made me not really care what happened to them. The ending was also too over the top for my liking.

While I enjoyed the writing style and characters in this novel, the plot is what deemed this book a 3 rating. I found the conclusion to be very predictable, and a little too out there for me. The reactions by the characters to major life changes didn’t feel believable or appropriate, also. And while the story wraps up all neat and tidy, it felt a little flat.

I am interested in reading other novels by this author. I would recommend this novel as a quick and easy read, however the ending is only meh.

Thanks to NetGalley, publisher and author to allow me to get a free copy of this book for review. Two sisters left by themselves in a cabin in the middle of nowhere and during a harsh winter. Food and wood for fire are almost gone with no hope of anybody rescuing them. Their mother left them to take one other little sick sister to get help. A parallel story develops with a married couple who seem to be getting distant as days go by. The wife has discovered something about her husband and he is not sharing information. Suddenly back in the cabin a stranger appears and imposes his presence on the two girls. Is he there to rescue them or harm them? What is he looking for? This is a unique story, very entertaining.
