A cute story that might be familiar to many who go through similar things in their homes, including my own.. And a fun quick read that will have young ones longing for pets and having their parents let them know that it is not possible for various reasons nodding their heads in agreement at Ishan. And possibly attempting to do things Ishan does in an effort to earn themselves a furry friend!!

thanks to netgalley for the arc .. read it more recently from the library to complete this review.

Third grader Ishan really, really wants a dog. He decides that with only four weeks left of school and the whole summer ahead of him, he and his older brother need to do all they can to talk their parents into fulfilling this wish. Too bad his mom is "alpha" in the household and doesn't really like dogs. Add to that Ishan's penchant for turning even the simplest tasks into a disaster, and it seems there is no hope for a "dog and his boy" summer. Or is there? Ishan is a precocious boy with big plans, but he also attracts trouble like a magnet. Sheth does an wonderful job of creating a short but funny and sweet tale of the lengths a small boy will go to get what he wants. Could there be more adventures in Ishan's future? Perfect for elementary school libraries looking to be more culturally inclusive while demonstrating to students that no matter what our backgrounds, we all have things in common, like wanting a dog!
