Good solid read--nothing flashy, but well done and a nice comforting escape for a couple hundred pages. Characters were well fleshed out and interesting people, and I was invested in their lives very quickly, and kept involved the whole way through.

I had not read this author before and when someone suggested the book , I decided to give it a try.
I am so glad I did. The story of Single mom Felicity Shaw, and famous soccer player Scott Gillie was sweet, touching , at times heartbreaking but also heartwarming.
Two individuals that have had their share of losses, insecurities and whose future whether separately or together, is full of uncertainties.
They blossomed together but when Scott is due to return to the game after an injured had sidelined him, will he leave everyone behind or will he find a new future?
The secondary characters in Edna, Scott’s grandmother, and Felicity’s son Tyler, were great addition to the story.
I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.

I was a tad skeptical about this book because of the title, but the description really brought me in. I am so happy I decided to give this book a chance because it was a really good read! I loved Felicity and Scott really grew on me as well. I loved the dynamics between Felicity & Tyler and Scott & Edna. I would say this was a feel-good story and it seemed pretty realistic as well, which can be quite a feat for a contemporary romance. It you are looking for a cute, quick read, I would recommend this!

I love a cute and sweet romance, but after 58%, I decided to throw in the towel. Not because anything was particularly bad, but rather, because I felt like the story was going nowhere. The source of friction was her being his PA, which is really minor, and then there was no real sexual tension either. It had a strong start, but was just limping along for too long. I really liked the premise, grandma, and Felicity's relationship with her cousin, but I needed more from the hero and the heroine, when I was more than half way through the book.

This book was not bad overall, but it just wasn't engaging. I tried to enjoy it, but nothing could compel me to keep reading except sheer determination.

The characters seemed to show unreasonable dissatisfaction with the things that faced them - Scott didn't want an assistant? Just deal with it. Felicity complains her new boss is giving her unnecessary tasks? It's still part of her job.

I think my biggest issue was a scene early on where Felicity turns up to work and Scott.... thinks about her pink toenail polish. Few guys would even notice nail polish let along fetishise it. It creeped me out.

I didn't feel any connection to the characters or romance and didn't particularly feel any interest in the plot either.

Not something I actively hated but it didn't resonate with me at all

I must admit that the cover of this book really didn’t draw me in, but as a lover of sports romance, I decided to give it a go. I’m happy that I did, as the story was fun, easy to follow, and kept me interested. I really liked the banter between the characters, and Felicity’s mum and son, really added some fun moments to the book. But naturally not all can go smoothly, and witnessing the angst that was their working relationship, and their trying to navigate the taboo of that dilemma, was definitely interesting. I did get a little frustrated with the prolonged stubbornness, and the drawn out times when forgiveness was necessary, but overall it was an enjoyable read and one that I happily recommend.

It's easy to dismiss this book just by looking at the title - and I'm not going to lie, the cheesy title did take me a little while to get over. But once you do get past the title, this is actually a really lovely story, regardless of whether you like soccer/football (depending on where you're from) or not. With a swoon-y male lead who just happens to be a soccer player, and a feisty heroine who's just doing what she needs to support her son and her, as well as a fun grandma and adorable son, you're bound to have a great story.
Opposites attracting have always ahem attracted me (see what I did there?). All the banter, undertones of attraction, healthily opposing views. It's fantastic. So you can imagine my delight in this novel with the 'war' that goes on in the beginning of Scott and Felicity's working relationship. Besides, I always appreciate a kickass lady who doesn't take crap from anyone, even if they're ridiculously good looking and a soccer player. Kyra Jacobs wrote their relationship right, in my humble opinion - just the right hint of attraction, banter, and a bunch of heart.

Of course, there are bound to be moments where you want to scream at the lead characters to just MAKE UP ALREADY or to stop being so thick headed (particularly looking at you, Scott) but there weren't so many moments that it made me want to stop reading it.

So yeah, overall - a fantastic read with great characters and some fun opposite attraction action.

The Soccer Player and the Single Mom was a very light read. There weren't any high levels of drama or 'on the edge of your seat' anticipation. It just seemed to go with the flow without any question or insane chemistry. The grandmother and son were good side characters and I'm glad it ended the way it did. Maybe I've been reading a few too many books like this and they're all rolling into one, but I can only give it 3 stars.

This was very amusing to read, with relatable characters. I found myself laughing or smiling with Kyra Jacobs’ humor and how hero and heroine embark in what they think is an innocent fling, without knowing they’re already too involved. The instant attraction really worked well for me in this case, the author wrote it in a rather convincing way.
Scott, the hero, has the right combination of professional drive, selfishness and generosity to make him a believable and lovable character. The change from sulking and grumpiness to sweetness is enjoyable to watch. His past hurt makes him human.
The heroine, Felicity, is a great character too, I liked that she was aware of the relationship risks, but got in nevertheless.
Great and likeable side characters keep the story interesting.

This book was such a sweet funny romance book. I loved it from the very first page. From the moment that Scott and Felicity meant sparks were flying. Both of them denied their feelings and did whatever they could to avoid each other. Sometimes you cannot out run what you feel. This was a great read. When you add in meddling friends and family and one adorable little boy you get yourself a book that not only makes you swoon at times but makes you smile and laugh. I cannot wait to see what happens next in this small town. Hopefully we will get to catch up with Scott and Felicity. Thanks Net Galley. Scott Gillie is a soccer player with a mission, to get to the national squad until an injury derails his career. Felicity Shaw is a single mom who has just lost her job when the factory when into receivership. Their lives collide in a doctor's waiting room where Scott's agent JB makes Felicity an offer she can't refuse - be Scott's PA for a few weeks while he's stuck staying with his grandmother Edna in Quail's Hollow but Scott isn't going to make it easy ...

This was inoffensive, fade-to-black romance. Unfortunately I read it shortly after one with a similar story, Nothing But Trouble which I absolutely adored and this fell short by comparison. There wasn't really any drama or tension or even any plot, just Scott and Felicity dancing around each other and playing house under the watchful eye of Edna and Felicity's son Tyler.

I liked it but I didn't love it.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this story! Scott is a pro soccer star sidelined by an injury who’s come home for a second opinion. Just cause his high school buddy is a pediatrician doesn’t mean he doesn’t know his stuff! His agent hires an assistant to keep him from overdoing it & help him with PR events. Scott treats her like the arrogant pro athlete he is at the beginning. Then he begins to feel bad for it & act better.

Felicity is a single mother who happens to be in the drs office with her son when Scott is there. Her son is a soccer fan & knows just who Scott is. After a series of bad luck hits her, Felicity ends up taking the job as Scott’s assistant. His actions overpower any sense of attraction she feels. What happens when he changes his ways?

I really enjoyed the characters in this story & their growth throughout it. The plot moves nicely & the supporting characters are full of color & personality. The ending was a bit of a surprise but I really liked it. I’ll be looking for more stories from this author.

Scott is the soccer player and Felicity is the widowed mother of a six-year-old son. In this romantic comedy. If you like a lighthearted romance with a lot of laughs this book is for you!

Scott is laid up with an injury, so his agent hires recently laid off Felicity as a personal assistant that Scott stubbornly insists that he doesn’t need. After sending Felicity on a series of wild goose chases, Scott learns that he has met his match in her since she gives as good as she gets! They start to realize that they have a strong attraction and decide to give romance a try. In the meantime, Scott also becomes closer to Felicity’s son. Scott is eventually called back to his team. Just as Felicity begins to give up on him, he surprises her by agreeing to make compromises and to make her his top priority.

This is a fun read, with much of the humor and insight coming from Scott’s grandmother, Edna. It’s also a relatively quick read that will bring a smile to your face as you are reading!
