I adored this fun, fall story about friendship and love. Rainbow Rowell's dialogue always makes me laugh and the characters feel so real. Her characters always have the best friendships that makes me wish I could be their friend too. The illustrations show the perfect fall setting and I loved the colors and details included. I'll be recommending this to many of my teens at the library this fall.
I can't wait to read more of Pumpkinheads. This preview grabbed my attention and left me yearning for autumn.
The ARC I received for free via Netgalley only had eighteen pages, but it was promising . I'm not sure if my reader was malfunctioning, but I tried. I'll find out about the rest when I get the published copy.
I'm sorry but I can't provide an honest evaluation of this book based on only 18 pages, nor can I be expected to say whether or not I would adopt it for a class.
This looks like it is going to be an incredible story. The realistic illustrations and unique story line leave my interest perked as a reader. I especially appreciated the curvy figures of the females in this story! A realistic depiction of the female body.
Crisp illustrations! Easy to follow as the panels aren't full of overwhelming illustrations and text. Can't wait to see what happens to Josiah on his mission to finally talk to the girl he has a crush on at the pumpkin patch!
This looks like it is going to be an adorable graphic novel! The are style is clean and doesn’t get in the way or make it difficult to know what is going on and there is enough context in text that the reader doesn’t have to work overhard to keep up. Even readers new to graphic novels will feel comfortable picking this up and jumping in. I look forward to getting to see how this story plays out!
This would be perfect to read during the Fall season. I can’t wait to read more about Deja and Josiah. I need the complete book! I’m so hooked and kind of sad that it’s only a teaser.
Rainbow Rowell is the queen of adorable contemporary teen romances, and I'm so excited to see that in comic form! The 18 page preview I saw looks very promising, although I wish Netgalley and FirstSecond did a better job denoting it as a preview and not the full text.
Adorable, cartoony, and full of nostalgic pumpkin patch feelings. Two pumpkin patch employees argue over whether one of them should finally talk to his crush - a girl he's obsessed over for years and never spoken to. It's set up to be a delightful rom-com, and knowing Rainbow Rowell, it will be.
The art is very cute and contemporary - it reminds me of Giant Days.
Received a digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.
I was lucky enough to get to read this short graphic novel by Rainbow Rowell. It’s a sweet story that I can’t wait to see continue.
This looks like an adorable series! The setting and characters are charming and I like the dynamic between Deja and Josiah. Can't wait to read more!
Very cute start to a series! The characters are relatable for teenagers and the banter is exactly what I would expect from Rowell.
I received a copy of a teaser for this book from a the publisher and Netgalley,.. already hooked by the teaser. I feel sufficiently teased and now just want the book please and thank you!
I didn't realize that this was only a teaser when I requested it. But these first 18 pages has made me very excited to read the whole book. The characters seem authentic and Josiah and Dena have some witty banter. I always love Faith Erin Hicks' illustrations.
I appreciate the opportunity from NetGalley and the publisher to preview the first 2 chapters of Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell in exchange for my honest review.
This book is very visually appealing, and will definitely grab the attention of many of my students with the cover alone. Once inside, the book tells the story of Josiah and Deja, two friends who are spending their last season working at the pumpkin patch together. Deja, being the good friend that she is, refuses to let Josiah waste his last opportunity to talk to the girl he's been mooning over from afar. The sample I read ended with Josiah and Deja running through what Josiah will say when he first speaks to "the fudge girl". Looks like a fun fall read for my middle school students!
I know there are only 18 pages but I am hooked. I cannot WAIT to get my hands on the rest of this story. Deja is an incredible character and I love how she talks to her friend. She is forcing Josiah to finally talk to "Fudge Girl" after three years of working at the same pumpkin patch. The illustrations by Faith Erin Hicks do not disappoint. Awesome illustrations by one of the best out there!
I was really looking forward to getting an advanced look at this graphic novel. Ever since I heard Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks were working together I was hooked. Then I realized this was only 18 pages of the book. I still loved the excerpt and can't wait to read the rest, but wish I hadn't gotten my hopes up for this arc when it was only a quarter (maybe less) of the finished book.
I can't review this book as only 18 pages are included here of over 200. Where is the rest of the novel?
When I saw "18 pages" I was a little bit disappointed, not going to lie, but then... the story already got me hooked even if we only caught a glimpse of it. I can't wait to be able to read it all, since I've been a Rainbow Rowell fan for a while. The illustrations are amazing, I'm loving the style. It goes so well with the "fall" theme!
Summer can't come soon enough.
