This book was fantastic. Thrilling, creepy, confusing and scary.

Initially, I wanted to quit this book early, maybe at the first 20 pages. I wasn't into the opening. it didn't grab me, and I couldn't get hooked on any of the characters. After the author presented the mystery to the readers, however, I was all in.

The storyline is intriguing. What is Randall's past? He's hiding something, and his late-wife may have discovered it. Was she killed because of Randall's past, or was it something she did on her own? And who is this new investigator? He came out of nowhere, yes?

I loved the investigators. Susan's a divorce homicide investigator, trying to raise twins and hell all at the same. Tommy is the newbie, just happy to be on this case. They work together well, and I love when Susan tells her new partner that it isn't like the movies. I couldn't wait for them to unravel the mystery together.

All of the psychological aspects in this book really held my attention. This is the plot of some of my favorite movies. Can prior trauma bring out the true evil in a person? Do we ever really bury our pasts? I loved it.

One thing that really bothered me, however, is when Randall wants to unlock Amanda's phone. First, he thinks to himself that it would be convenient if someone would call her phone so that he could just answer the call and unlock the phone. Because nobody calls, he resorts to a ridiculous measure to unlock the phone. Why didn't he just call it himself and then answer it? I'm stunned that the author and the editors overlooked such a detail.

3.5
Interesting concept and well written. I didn’t realize this book is piggybacking on the author’s previous book - What Have You Done. It’s not critical that you read the first book though it does come to play in the epilogue. I had to do a bit of sleuthing to figure out the reference and once I did it was an appreciated tidbit.

This book has a nice amount of surprises, twists and red herrings. Some things I saw coming, most I did not. It’s a pretty dark story full of some pretty evil characters. I was pleased with the conclusion (a little crazy but I like crazy). I’ll be curious where the next one takes us.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Thomas & Mercer for a copy in exchange for a request.

The twists and turns kept me reading well into the night. What appears to be a simple car crash is so much more and keeps the reader guessing. Love the main character’s thorough development and the well thought out mental trials and family commitments. Great read!

This was a spectacular read that sucked me in right from the beginning and just when you think you know what’s going on it changes!
When single mom of twins Susan alder is sent to investigate what looks to be a simple car accident she and her new partner find a lot more than just a “simple” accident!
I really hope Susan alder and her cases come out in a series of books. Would love to read more about her.

What appears to be a car crash soon turns into a murder mystery with unexpected twists and revelations.
A gripping and pacey murder mystery albeit a little bit farfetched yet didn't spoil my overall enjoyment.
After all this is fiction and it's supposed to entertain, isn't it? Happy reading!

Thanks#Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Police investigator Susan Adler is ready to close the book on a deadly car accident, but after the medical examiner discovers evidence of foul play, she knows she has a murder on her hands. The victim was the wealthy wife of Randall Brock, a renowned psychiatrist who treats patients with disturbing, brutal fantasies. And just like that, Susan’s got a suspect.

Thank you to net galley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book it was a great experience

This was a brilliant twisty tale that captivated me from start to finish. I figured out part of the big reveal early on, but that's likely due to a coincidence of timing that I can't identify because it'll give things away, but that in no way affected my enjoyment of the entire story. This was, simply put, a great read. High energy, gruesome bits and all, from start to finish. The characters were very well-crafted and thoroughly engrossing, as was the plot.

I read this entire book without realizing it was a second in series, or at least a second by the author, and only realized it when it ended with a name in what felt like a portentous reveal. The odds of a book ending on the revelation of a name that I had never heard in the course of the book I finished, clearly clued me in that there must have been some other story with that name as a major figure. That sent me to Google, which sent me to the first book by Farrell (What Have You Done), which I read just as enthusiastically and with just as much enjoyment as this one...

Farrell has a magnificent ability to paint at early broken people in the myriad colors they use to mask their brokenness. The plots are intricate, the secrets are sick on the ground, and the trauma and tragedy spend decades. Through a twisty-turny series of red herrings, true reveals, and half-truths that obscure as much as they reveal, the plot plays out in a way that keeps you furiously turning pages, uncertain of who to trust or where to turn until the final shoe drops. You do not have to read the first book to read the second, although the name at the end of the second will not make sense if you don't. But you should read them both anyway - Farrell writes a fantastic thriller and I cannot wait to see what dark corners he drags us into next...

I really enjoyed reading this book. The plot moves along well and although I did guess a key part of the storyline it wasn't so early in the book that it spoilt it. I shall be looking out for more titles by this author.

An outstanding mystery that will keep you on the edge of your set until the end. And what an ending! I always try to avoid comparing one writer to another but I think Agatha Christie would be very proud of this ending! It's hard to write too much without coming to a spoiler so I will just say this is a very well-written mystery involving a psychologist and a very creepy killer. Or is it? Is the doctor sane? Crazy? A killer? Or something entirely different. This book has some of the best dialog I've read in a long time and it's clear this writer knows how people actually talk in real life. I cannot recommend this more if you are looking for something that is not your run of the mill mystery. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy for review.

This was the third mystery/thriller book in a row and I'm thinking I need a break from the genre. This book just wasn't for me.
On the positive side - it did keep me turning the page but all the twist and turns the story took were a bit unbelievable to me and it left me overall underwhelmed.
2.5 stars rounded up to 3.

A well-written mystery that keeps you guessing. A talented author who writes good dialog, and reveals the plot with expertise that will keep you on the edge of your seat. A little like A Christie in that it has a whopper of an ending. Recommended.

Peter and Randall are psychiatric doctors working to find a way to curtail psychopathic behavior. Their premise is that by talking about negative fantasies, the patient would less likely feel the need to act the behavior out. A breakthrough. Yet, with only three patients, there has been a limited amount of success and even a bit of backward patient behavior. Randall, "We could change the way homicidal tendencies are recognized and treated!"

Randall is married to Amanda who is very wealthy - they attend a reception in her honor for her superb charity work. (Randall did not know how wealthy Amanda was until they were engaged). A man had been staring at them during the entire event. Randall asks Amanda who the man is. She did not see him - and the man is now gone. After Amanda receives her award, Randall backs out with a migraine but goes to the research laboratory. That night, Amanda dies in an awful car accident. A man in a long hooded coat visits Randall. He tells Randall that Amanda was murdered. He also says that he knows who did it and saw the entire thing. But, no police. He does not give Randall that information yet.

Randall had Amanda's cell phone and uses her body for a fingerprint to open it. (Whoa!) He finds out a number of things - none of which are good.

The reader is then taken on a thrill ride starting with Amanda and Randall's 2 year relationship. Also, we all question "who killed Amanda". Since forensics show Amanda dead prior to the car accident, things really heat up!

Randall looks more and more guilty - police inspectors Susan and Tommy (on the case) are beginning to doubt Randall's innocence, as well. And - what about the man in the long coat and hood?

This book is a riveting novel packed with intrigue and suspense. One of 2019's best !!!

I highly recommend this to readers of all genres !!!

Many Thanks, again, to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for a wonderful thriller!

As this book unfolds, so do the questions in the reader’s mind. There are so many questions that the author initiates with the death of Amanda, Dr. Brock’s wife and the reader is left in suspense for most of the book.
Most avid readers of suspense and murder mysteries are conditioned to pick up on tiny, minuscule details that the author drops in the earlier chapters because they enjoy the thrill of figuring out the plot twists before it actually occurs. I did realize that Dr. Brock probably had multiple personalities earlier than revealed, but there was still a lot of uncovered suspense and mystery in the ending chapter. Just when you think the book is over, there’s the dessert course to enjoy! The author gets all 5 stars for that in my opinion. I would not recommend this book for a pre-teen or younger reader due to some of the violent descriptions of murder.

I Know Everything Matthew Farrell

Matthew Farrell is a new name to my reading list. In fact, I only found him because of a suggestion from his publisher’s twitter.

A quick look at the synopsis for I Know Everything on a bloggers review website and I knew this was a book I wanted to read.

When a car runs of the road, and over a cliff, the woman inside is found dead behind the wheel. A rich and generous philanthropist Amanda had everything to live for, she had just been given a prestigious award and was on her way home to her husband.

Her husband, Randall, is devastated at her death, but this quickly turns to confusion when a stranger arrives and tells him his wife’s death was no accident, and that she had secrets. But he won’t tell Randall what the secrets are unless he confesses to his own.

Shortly afterwards the Police investigation, led by Investigator Susan Adler, uncovers the fact that Amanda was dead before the RTC and begin their own investigation with Randall as one of the main suspects.

What follows is a complex story that follows some extraordinary characters.

Susan Adler, the Investigator, is a single mom recently divorced from her husband and relying heavily on her mother to help bring up her young twins.

Her new partner Tommy Corolla a recent transferee from out of town.

Dr Randall Brock, a research Dr who is looking at ways treating people with psychopathic fantasies.

Plus, many more who I can’t mention without somehow spoiling the story.

It has to be said that throughout this book I had opinions on who I though was the killer, and, thanks to the wonderful writing of Matthew Farrell, I kept changing my mind on who that was. Right up to the end of the very last chapter he had me second guessing myself.

That is what makes this such an interesting, and compelling, book to read.

Each chapter had me second guessing, in the best way, and that meant I wanted to read the next one to find out if I was right.

That kept the pages turning and I ended up reading this book over two days.

It was one of those books that had me hooked so tight I didn’t realise I was devoting so much time to it, until I came up for air and realised that another few hours had passed me by.
I can’t recommend this book highly enough. It is original, it is well written, the characters are great, the story is amazing and I think there may have been a very subtle little cliff hanger in the last two lines of the epilogue.

I hope so, because I want to read more from Matthew Farrell, using some of the same characters that are in this book.

On Netgalley they ask for the reviews to rank the book on a five star basis. If they had seven it wouldn't be enough for this one.

I received a free e-copy of I Know Everything by Matthew Farrell from Net Galley and Thomas & Mercer in exchange for my review.

This is a dark mystery, that gets darker the further the investigation into a car accident that was no accident goes. Almost everyone is hiding something, and Farrell does a masterful job of revealing those secrets along the way.

I managed to guess a couple of the twists before they happened, but I was surprised many times through the course of this book. It’s a well-written, unsettling thrill ride from start to finish. Even as you turn the last page, you’re left wondering if you know everything or not (my guess is not).
