What a sweet book to introduce kids to sonnets. This is written in a way that keeps their attention while providing solid information. I can see this being especially popular among tweens. It’s well done and beautifully illustrated. I was given the chance to review a digital Advanced Reader Copy through NetGalley to share my honest opinions with you.

Another wonderful addition to the Poetry Builders series, this installment teaches budding poets the basics of sonnet writing. I read this with my cubs, and we tried out the sonnet writing. They enjoyed it. Sonnets are not among my favourite types of poems to write though! There's a glossary at the end, and a for further reading section.

***Many thanks to Netgalley & Norwood House for providing an ecopy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Introducing sonnets to middle grade students is difficult; teaching them to write one in a kid-appealing way is even harder. St. John succeeds admirably on both accounts. It's the rare child that will pick this up on their own, but for curriculum support, it's highly recommended.

St. John's book is cute, educational, and most importantly, fun. Learning about poetry and how to write different poems can be quite daunting for many, but St. John makes it fun and look easy with step by step methods. This book would make a great gift or addition to any classroom setting.
