I was first introduced to Kevin J Anderson's work through his Star Wars novels snd had never read any of his short fiction (that I knew of... I likely ran into him in the pages of Analog).
These stories did not disappoint. Each was accompanied by a short background of when he wrote the story originally... everything from hiking with a tape recorder to collaborating with other authors. Probably my favorite stories were the ones where he bent the gene a bit... the redemption of a post-apocalyptic earth in "Rest in Peace", the tantalizing seeds of peace in "Comrades in Arms", and the unexpected ending to "Show Me Some Skin."
If you like a good set of short stories, this book is right up your alley.

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the opportunity to review an advance copy of this work.

Selected Stories: Science Fiction, volume 2 is a new collection of short fiction from prolific SF author Kevin J. Anderson. I was mostly familiar with Anderson's work through tie-in franchise novels in the X-Files, Star Wars, and the Dune universes (the last of these co-authored with Brian Herbert). Released 29th Jan 2019 by Wordfire, it's 344 pages and available in hardback, paperback, and ebook formats.

There are a broad range of stories here in short to medium lengths. All 16 of the included stories are introduced by the author. (I love these introductions!). I really enjoy the glimpses into the background of the varied processes which go into writing, and these are enticing.

All of the included stories save one (“Show Me Some Skin”) have previous publication history over the last 3 decades. They're all very well written and enjoyable. I especially loved Prevenge, a time travel murder mystery.

Four stars trending toward 5 stars. Especially for lovers of short fiction collections, there are real gems here.

This is a fine collection of science fiction short stories. It held my interest throughout but did not wow me. Kevin Anderson is not an author I am familiar with and I will not make any effort to seek out any of his other works.

The stories were okay but nothing that I would say stood out. It's a bit disappointing to say bit short stories just seem to ha e been pushed to the wayside and arent written anymore with a mind for enjoyment.

An enjoyable anthology from an experienced writer. Although this was my first introduction to Kevin J. Anderson, I am really impressed- I was engrossed in every single story, and devoured this collection. I will absolutely be searching out others !

Thank you for the ARC from netgalley in exchange for my honest review

Selected Stories: Science Fiction, Volume 2 by Kevin J. Anderson, a Fun Read that makes you think. Anderson has always been one of my favorite authors and this book definitely does him justice. These stories delve into the moral, ethical and lawful parts of science fiction as only a true master can.

I download collections by Kevin Anderson and Alan Dean Foster at the same time from NetGalley and I am going to write a single review because I have the same reaction to each. These are both big-name science fiction authors with dozens of novels and hundreds of stories to their names. Both are bestselling, and I've checked out a couple novels by each without being hooked on either. When these collections came up I wanted to see if they were better at short stories but I can tell you now, they aren't. Clearly I am outside their usual demographic but that's OK. At least I tried them.

If you like Anderson or Foster now, you will no doubt like these collections. If you like Neal Stephenson, Iain Banks, M. John Harrison, Gene Wolfe, Philip K. Dick, or R.A. Lafferty like I do, you probably won't.

I first encountered Kevin J. Anderson's work in the shared universe realm of other peoples' creations, chiefly The X-Files and DC characters. I've since learned that he has a body of work of his own, with invention and creativity clearly on display.

This book is a fast read and features both short and long stories that will entertain those who have encountered Anderson's work before, and those who are new. Lovely science fiction reading for your dining pleasure.

I was very excited when I saw this book, and that excitement was substantiated. I blew thru the wide variety of stories; all quite good. Not all anthologies include blurbs about each story, but this one does, and I always enjoy these. I haven't read any of his other books, but I know he has an excellent reputation.. He's an excellent talent, and I recommend this to sci-fi fans.

I really appreciate the free copy for review!
