Selecting this book based on the title and cover alone, I wasn't sure what to expect, and I was certainly surprised by what this book turned out to be.

Told by two narrators, the story alternates between Jake and Clara, with Clara's portion being in the form of a journal. Both of these characters are likeable, and I found myself rooting for them.

The story itself was interesting and unlike any other book I have read. It's not a believable story, but it is entertaining. Some of the characters are awful, but that's a necessary part of the story.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This book was definitely not what I was expecting, but that was in the best possible way.
I felt invested in the two main characters from page one. Jake and Clara meet on the plane and they both have this very strange feeling that they know each other from somewhere but they both also have a memory loss, which adds to the mystery. There is a lot more to this story, so many twists and turns and when the relationship between these two are revealed it is surely jaw dropping.
I enjoyed the authors writing style and complex characters

The Dead Girl in 2A by Carter Wilson -- 4 Stars

Poisoned Pen Press

ISBN 9781492686033

I found this an enjoyable psychological thriller. It is sometimes frustratingly implausible and suspends believability. But if one doesn’t get too rational and thinks of it as a Twilight Zone kind of story it is fun to read.

The story of mind altering manipulation is mostly told by Jake and Clara, two victims of a strange experiment. The transfer of the narrative between them flows well, and short chapters that sometimes end in cliffhangers add to the suspense.

The author suggests reading more about the drug scopolamine. I was aware of its medical uses, but found it has other scary effects. Learning about these and about another drug made from the same plant made the basis of the plot a bit more plausible.

The ending did drag with some repetition but overall it was a unique and well written novel.

This is the first book I have read by this author and thank NetGalley for introducing me to his work.

A dark tale of suspense not for the faint hearted. Jake is a failure in his own eyes who struggles with serious memory loss. Ever since his near fatal car accident that severely injured his beloved daughter he has been in a downward spiral. In desperation he learns of a self help program that will help him regain his recent short term memory. Interestingly he has never had memories of his childhood before he became an orphan, only after he was adopted.
Clara is an ex school teacher bent on killing herself. She feels this is a noble cause. Like Jake she suffers from current memory loss and has no memory of her birth parent's, nothing before she too was adopted. Jake and Clara meet on a plane and instantly feel a strong bond. How do they know each other and why do they have the same strange similarities?
Plenty of white knuckle turns and twists in this story. At times it did stretch the imagination but overall a great creepy thriller. 4.5 stars for the inventive plot but the epilogue did have some glaring gaps in realism.

Quite a good thriller. Not read anything by this author before, but would be interested in reading others.

I don't know about this one, really.

I was interested originally because it sounded like a mystery or a thriller, but I didn't get that vibe from it. By default I guess it would be considered a mystery, but it was more like a sci-fi one.

It just wasn't what I was expecting. I couldn't get into it, it seemed to move slowly for me. The characters were also just okay, a little flat.

If I was more into government related things maybe I'd be into this more but I tend to stay away from that type of reading.

ooohhh this was quite an unexpected dose of awesome, creepy, weird, dark and twisted.
It was a different type of psychological thriller for me and I really enjoyed it. I felt the characters were strongly introduced and I like how each chapter was set up by a different narrative but overlapping with the previous narrative.
4 shiny stars!

Zero stars to this ridiculous other-worldly farce of a novel. Became so ludicrous I kept going just to test the limits of my patience, Dialogue, plot, characters, all so subpar I can't believe these words ever hit the printed page. Truly an embarrassment to all those incredibly talented authors out there whose books reside close to this one, Stay away! Absolutely awful!

" I don't know why we were put here together. On this plane, at this moment in time. I think your something I lost, perhaps a long time ago. Now that I've found you, I'm not going to question it and I'm not going to explore it any further. I'm just going to let this magic exist in the world."
This book was completely different from what I first imagined when I read the description but a good way. This was one of the most original plot lines I have read in a long time. The characters were very engaged and likeable. I like how the chapters switched between clara and jakes points of view. This book had me very creeped out though and I wasn't exactly sure what was going happening in the beginning, my wheels were constantly spinning but as the book progressed things fell into place. There were twists throughout and I found myself holding my breath a lot. This was a great psychological thriller.

3.5/5 rounded up for its uniqueness

This was a well-done book that’s rooted in realism, but with sci-fi and fantasy elements. It reminded me of the book Annihilation in that sense.

This book felt like a dream - a fever dream. I recommend reading it straight through and getting lost in the confusion. I got a little bit bored about a third of the way through, but it finished strong.

The Dead Girl in 2A has intertwining themes of memory, family, childhood, trust, death, and regret.
Overall it was just a really good and different story.

The Dead Girl in 2A is a fascinating novel for fans of books like The Girl in the Window and Dark Matter. This book is definitely a thriller, but it comes with a side of sci-fi as well.

Jake Buchanan and Clara Stone connect on a plane, and there's an immense feeling of deja vu that they've met before. There's a connection, but they cannot place how they've met. What comes to unfold is that they were part of an experiment as children. The story takes off once Clara disembarks the plane - sharing she's on her way to commit suicide.

Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. This book was completely different to what I expected, and I'm not sure what I thought of it. At times I found it too slow going, and I wasn't able to connect with the characters, yet I wanted to know what was going on. I found it very unsettling in places.

The Dead Girl In 2A is a twisted psychological thriller. Jake and Clara meet on a plane. Jake feels that he somehow already knows Clara, but the connection is elusive. The two realize they do have some things in common. When it's time to exit the plane, Clara confides to Jake that she is going to kill herself. She disappears into the crowd. Jake knows he has to find and stop Clara. The story is told from the perspectives of both characters. It's interesting to see the reaction of each to their current situations. The plot is convoluted and bizarre, and you will be confused at times. The pieces slowly fit together about Jake and Clara's connection. Who is responsible for this manipulative situation and why? The answers are odd but so fascinating. This book is thrilling, disturbing and complex. The main characters are sympathetic and engaging with a splash of tragic. I was absolutely riveted and enjoyed this book. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

I really liked this book. The story begins on an airplane where Jake believes that he knows the woman next to him. The book breaks off into different point of views and is good and going back and forth in time to explain how they know each other and to solve the mystery. The book really kept me guessing and loved the ending. Thanks for the ARC, Net Galley.

"This is some messed-up shit."

I don't think there is a better quote to sum up this book! Jake and Clara happen to sit next to each other on a flight and both have a feeling that they know each other from somewhere. In an attempt to find a link between them, they reveal parts of their lives to one another and discover that they are both orphans who tragically lost their parents at the age of 8 and 7 respectively, but neither of them can remember anything from that time of their life. Clara also confesses to Jake that she is flying to Denver to kill herself.

Having never read a book by Carter Wilson, this book was a nice surprise for me. I really enjoyed this twisted thriller where the lives of the two main characters intertwine in the most bizarre circumstances as they start to uncover the truth about their childhood and erased memories. Fans of psychological thrillers are in for a treat! Although, I would say that as with most psychological thrillers, you will need to suspend your disbelief to truly enjoy it.
