The Beyond is the last book in the series and quite frankly I was absolutely not disappointed. We find all the elements that make up the quality of Chloe Neill's stories.
The danger is imminent, between the storm and the faes no one knows where to turn and unfortunately it will be necessary to make difficult decisions.
Claire is an independent, strong person who wants to protect her city and the people she loves at all costs. I really like her personality; in this book she asks herself a lot of questions about herself, about her future and about her relationship with Liam. I appreciated seeing her looking for herself in this volume, she is not perfect and especially her fears have resurfaced.
Liam tries to protect everyone; he also tries to learn to live with his powers. I love this man, he is tender, passionate, a little stubborn but he knows what he wants.
We see a lot of Malachi in this volume and I must admit that I also like him. Just like Gunnar.
The story ends and it is with a little pinch in my heart that I say goodbye to all these characters that I loved and with whom I enjoyed spending time.
Quick Word: A very well conducted final to close an exciting series.

I always have a good time with this series and I was curious to get into this new volume. I had forgotten a lot of the events of the previous ones, so I didn’t really know exactly what to expect anymore.

We find all the characters we have enjoyed discovering so far, but here we are, the war is more and more present and this time, our heroes will have to face the Seelies attack whose powers could well surpass all they have faced.

I thought it was great that for once we see our heroes crossing the Veil we’ve heard so much about. We discover a new culture and population in a different world and it was quite fascinating. We also learn a little more about Claire and we will see her make big decisions, especially about what she wants with Liam. Gavin is also here for our greatest pleasure, as is Gunnar.

Our protagonists will be put to the test again, ready to do anything to save their city from total destruction and they will have to use everything they can to succeed!

4.5 Stars

Sensitive Claire Connolly and Bounty Hunter Liam Quinn are full of magic that always wants to be unleashed. She, as a Sensitive, and Liam who has only recently gained magical abilities after the Veil separating our world from the Paras one was torn open again by Claire’s sociopathic scientist mother. One of the types of Paras known as Seelies, who was imprisoned on Devil’s Island, has escaped with the help of her group. They are wreaking havoc with revenge in mind and seek to destroy all that is left of NOLA.

Claire learns of a weapon from former Para commander and now ally, Malachi, an “angel” who escorts her team into the Beyond to retrieve an essential component. Readers of this series have heard much of this otherworldly place and now will have a chance to experience it. Not only are there magical creatures to fight in order to reach their destination, but Claire’s own magic behaves differently so she has to learn how to wield it in this new environment. Claire, Liam, Gunnar, Malachi, and Rachel, someone whom Malachi had a connection to in the past, plunge into the Beyond experiencing adventures and seeing a new side to the Paras who rule in the Beyond. Elysium may look perfect on the outside, but that perfection comes with a great cost to both worlds.

The team has little time as a massive hurricane is once again threatening to wipe out what is left of post-apocalyptic New Orleans. This storm is being influenced by the group whom they are fighting so using this weapon is essential to stop this latest catastrophe from happening. Claire and Liam’s relationship continues to unfold, but Claire is hesitant to make a commitment during these dark and dangerous times.

Book four and final in the Devil’s Isle series, readers will be interested to journey to the Beyond as well as seeing the myriad of Paras who live there. Even with Malachi’s help, they face several challenges while getting a new perspective on the intruders who flooded in to the Southern US eight years ago. This story has some emotional endings and beginnings so fans of the series will not want to miss it.

It's been a year since the veil fell and New Orleans has completely changed, many of the survivors have left but those who remain are stubborn and determined to protect what's left of their city. The war has taken it's toll though and when a dangerous new enemy comes looking for revenge Claire and her friends are going to have to take huge risks to save the home that they love.

I'm really sad that The Beyond is the final book in this series, I've really enjoyed spending time in this world and getting to know the characters so I was honestly hoping that we'd get a few more books. Having said that I'm glad that it ended on a high note. Claire has grown a lot since the first book, she's much more confident now and has better control of her abilities. In fact she's no longer scared of her magic and instead has learnt to wield it with precision. She's also learnt to appreciate life, she celebrates the small things like spending time with friends and family and is very focused on protecting the people she loves. Her relationship with Liam is also going well, they've had their problems in the past but they're now much more secure in their love and are working really well together as a team.

I don't want to give away much of the plot but I will tell you that this is the first book that lets us take a peek at what is on the other side of the Veil which I really loved. There was a lot of action and we get to see all of our favourites fighting together for an excellent cause. I may be sad that the series has come to an end but I'm happy with the way things wrapped up, especially for Claire and Liam. I'm still going to hope that Chloe Neill decides to revisit this world in the future but in the meantime I'll look forward to more from the Heirs of Chicagoland!

Four stars: A turning point in the series. A thrilling story!

Claire is continuing to fight for her friends and the city she loves. New Orleans is in shambles after an eight year war with the paranormals. Claire has learned to not take anything to granted and to appreciate the simple things in life, from happy to reunions to chocolate and wine. Then trouble strikes when a group of powerful Seelies threaten the city and all who live there. The Seelies are the most powerful threat yet. To defeat this enemy, Claire and her friends must travel across the Veil to the land of Elysium to obtain a weapon that strips magic from paranormals. It is a tall task, but if they don’t succeed, the Seelies and a destructive hurricane might finish New Orleans once and for all. Can Claire save the city once again?
What I Liked:
The Beyond got this series back on solid ground. I wasn’t a big fan of the last book as it was centered around romantic drama. This one is focused back on the Paranormals and their threat to New Orleans. I loved the action and danger and the quiet soul searching moments. This felt like a finale in the series, but I hope there is more.
I liked that the romance finally finds its footing in this book. The relationship between Liam and Claire has been a tumultuous one to say the least. Finally, the two manage to get it right. It was thrilled to see the maturity finally shine through.
Claire has gown and evolved throughout the series. I love this new, confident Claire. She wields her magic with accuracy, and is no longer afraid to be a Sensitive. She is fierce. I especially appreciated the quieter moments when Claire does some soul searching and makes some strong conclusions about her city, her friends and her relationships.
There are some answers in this book. I appreciated finally having a better understanding of the Veil, the Paranormals and why they came through the Veil.
The second half of the book was packed full of action. From the thrilling visit to the Beyond only to return to find a powerful hurricane barreling down on New Orleans. The finale exciting.
The ending was just right. It felt like a finale to a series. I am not certain if there is more, but if this is the end, I think it ended in a good spot.
And The Not So Much:
I was disappointed that characters like Solomon and Moses had only small roles. Not having this paranormal players involved in the plot made it feel like something was missing.
If this is the finale, I wish that there was a bit more on the aftermath, but I am still satisfied if it is the end.
The Beyond was an exciting and thrilling read. I loved the action and the growth of the characters and their relationships. Plus, this book provided some long awaited answers to many questions. It has been an interesting journey, and all in all, this was an enjoyable series.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for this review.

Its Chloe Neill, and she NEVER disappoints. The world beyond the veil is revealed a bit more, and I'm thoroughly engaged and enthralled! Kudo's to Chole for keeping it fresh!

Sensitive Claire Connolly and bounty hunter Liam Quinn are living in a New Orleans torn apart by magic. And in the year since the veil has been reopened, life has become even more difficult and challenging. When a new, powerful enemy arises Claire and Liam take a chance by going through the veil, into the beyond to retrieve a powerful magic weapon that may end the terror and finally bring peace.

The Beyond is a solid conclusion to an interesting and fast paced urban fantasy/paranormal series. I enjoyed the story and its conclusion. And while the resolution seemed pretty abrupt, it was an enjoyable ride.

Fans of the series and Chloe Neill will be satisfied and want to read this title. 3.5 stars.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I had no idea this was the final book of the Devil's Isle series but The Beyond by Chloe Neill wrapped up threads, took us into the veil and left me saddened to say goodbye.

The overall story arc and romance wrapped up wonderfully. A full review will post at Caffeinated Reviewer on June 4th. I will share link on all social media. A review will post to Goodreads and Amazon. Link provided.

Full review to be published online in mid June.

THE BEYOND is the fourth (and last) book in Chloe Neill's 'Devil's Isle' series. I can't help but wonder if the series is being ended by the publisher due to poor sales and overall public reception to the series. While there is an intriguing premise; the series has never lived up to its potential. After the incredibly disappointing third book, I would have given up and never picked this one up had it not been the last one. After the time invested, I wanted to see how it all ended.

THE BEYOND is fair read in an uneven series; certainly better than the last book. If you enjoyed the other books you'll like this one.

Really sorry to see this series end!! I'd read all of Neill's other books but somehow missed this series and devoured the first 3 books just prior to this one being available on Netgalley. I loved the world building, a skill that Neill really excels at! Her charaters are 3 dimensional; very fleshed out and alive,. This story/series grabbed me from the beginning and wouldn't let go. I'm very sorry to see it end. I guess I will just have to wait and see what she comes up with next.

This fourth book in the Devil's Isle novels begins with conditions deteriorating in New Orleans. Already nearly a ghost town since the Veil was opened a year earlier, now a new group of Court paras has come to the city with thoughts of revenge.

The seelie are good at controlling the wind and are going to use their powers to halt the newest hurricane, which bids to be as strong as Katrina, over New Orleans until the whole city is destroyed. Claire and Liam and their friends need to find some way to halt the seelie's plans before the city they love is completely destroyed.

When they receive news of a possible weapon that can strip the magic from magical beings, they don't think that they have a choice other than to find the plans and the components and use it to get rid of the threat.

Finding the components means that they will have to travel through the Veil into the land of Elysium and convince the ruling Consularis to give up the essential piece they hold. The journey is hard and the Consularis unwilling to get involved in a war on Earth. Their trip also gives them a chance to see what the Consularis have made of their world and they aren't impresses. Outwardly perfect and happy, dissent is punished harshly. It seems apparent that the Consularis were glad when their dissentors decided to go through the Veil and take their war to Earth.

Claire has to do a lot of soul-searching in this one as she wonders if it is finally time to give up on the city she loves. She does come to realize that what she loves are the people she has made into her new family and, if necessary, she could find a satisfying life elsewhere.

The story was engaging. The characters well drawn. And the situation desperate. The plot was fast-paced and I loved the details about New Orleans.

An excellent conclusion to the series! I hadn’t realized going into it that this was the final book. A powerful enemy decides to get vengeance by destroying New Orleans. They discover that there is only one way to defeat the enemy and it involves a journey into the beyond, which has the potential to be dangerous for many reasons.

It was cool to finally see what it was like on the other side of the veil. Aside from the threat of the fae who lived there, the magic could do harm to Claire and Liam. Claire absorbs the magic and Liam fights off the desire to, so having lots of magic around them was dangerous.

Claire finally showed considerable growth as a character, which made me happy. It is unfortunate that the series is over because there were many good characters. Overall I liked the way everything was wrapped up.

I enjoyed this series very much despite issues of certain dialect and technical issues. Claire and Liam are a well developed characters and I can see the finality of the series coming after the last book. I think the author has exceed expectations with this book and ties it up nicely. I am saddened though because this is her second series in less than two years to end for me. I know she has started another, but they are still missed. Chloe Neill is a great author about knowing when to move on and create new characters to enjoy. I would defiantly recommend this series and have to several of our customers.
Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Books for the E-arc copy of #TheBeyond. An extra thank you to Ms. Neill for giving readers such wonderful characters to enjoy.

This is the last in the Devil's Isle series and it is good. I liked that it wrapped up story lines in a satisfying way. The characters had challenges and dealt with them in a grown up realistic way.

The first book in this series was a strong story built on a fascinating premise. However, now at book four, the writing and plot have wilted.

A few concerns that should have been sorted out in editing:

- The characters who are supposedly Cajun speakers are all written in standard American dialect. Claire makes red beans and rice on Sunday, mentioning how it's the New Orleans tradition. (It is tradition to make it on Monday.)
- Every time a character enters the scene, we are first told what they are wearing. It's an odd interruption to the narrative and is totally irrelevant.
- The conversational flow is strangely interrupted by actions like face touching.

Overall, a decent story in need of aggressive editing.

I really enjoyed this continuation of the Devil's Isle series featuring Sensitive Claire and her man, bounty hunter Liam. Claire and Liam are working with their allies to save New Orleans from paranormal foes from the Beyond. A year ago the Veil between the human world and the world Beyond was torn apart, allowing supernatural evil to come to Earth. Demons are terrorizing people and demolishing the City. Hopefully Claire and her friends can use their special powers to stop them. If you like paranormal urban fantasy with lots of action and romance. this book is for you!
