Helpful ideas for getting kids messy and learning with art projects, great and small. Loved the little projects interspersed with the authors lists of supplies for different aged kids.

This book is filled with funny and easy to follow ideas to entertain your children.
I really loved the book because the projects were fun and easy and with lot of fun project to spark the imagination of the kids.
I highly recommend it.

Thanks to NetGalley and the editorial to provide me a copy of the book in exchange for my honest opinion.

When my children where growing up, there would not have been a need for a book such as this. Outdoor play, games, and creative work were stables for growing children - unfortunately todays children live in a different world (and don't get me started on that)
This book will help, firstly if you want to entertain children over the holidays, fix the "I'm bored" chant when the devices are turned off, and to actually have some fun and be creative with your children, or grandchildren.
There is nothing difficult with this book, just great fun, lots of ideas that allow the creative juices to flow. Come on let yourself go and have some arty fun.

This 300 page book is a fantastic resource for parents of young children or anyone who works with children. I've been parenting for 21 years and didn't find much that was new to me, but if I were a newer mother I would absolutely purchase this for my home. Also, even though I did know most of the projects, they are so well presented that it got me excited to try a lot of them again with my kids.

The book offers much more than just creative art projects and craft recipes. It provides all kinds of information on how to set up an artful home, encourage creativity, find time for art, store and display art, do art with groups of kids, and much more. It also does a great job of answering just about every art question you could come up with and then some.

Examples of projects in the book -- make edible paint and paint a white frosted cake, do shaving cream art on windows, mix black paint with glue and then paint in the spaces to make stained glass looking paintings, put food coloring on milk and then touch it with q-tips dipped in oil to make colorful "fireworks" (and the science behind it), drawing prompts like draw frames or faces for kids to fill in, make bunting or envelopes out of old art, use q-tips with oil over oil pastel drawings, use crayons on a hot plate to draw melted crayon pages, make colorful paper mache bowls, make pictures with microwavable puffy paint, do splat painting (dip cotton balls in watercolor paint and put them on paper, then smack them with the back of a spoon to make them splatter over the paper in fun ways), drop rubbing alcohol on watercolor paints and see the effects, make foamy bathtub paint, and many more.

Full of full-color photos of kids doing the projects, this will certainly inspire parents to get their art on. Even this many years into parenting and doing art, I found myself bookmarking all kinds of projects to try again or for the first time. Highly recommended.

I read a temporary digital ARC of the book for the purpose of review.

What a great book! It’s separated into a section on what “artful” means, how to set up a space, what supplies you may need etc. And another section on all the activities. I love that they don’t just focus on painting/coloring as art, but poetry, sculpting and all kinds of things that a regular joe might not think of. They also give great tips and as an avid reader they give you book resources. And not just adult resource type books but picture books for your little ones that talk about and explore art. What a great idea. There are also activities for your little people as well as for your more experienced artist! All in all a great book for any parent who wants to foster creativity of all kinds in their kids.

The book is laid out beautifully with lots of photos to keep reader interested. There are clear subheadings and chapters which go through different strands of art, how to store art, keep children inspired and display it. I particularly liked the 10 simple invitations to art which were laid out clearly on one page so easy to refer back to. As both a teacher, and a mother of 2 children, I found this book useful. I blog too so could relate with the introduction, although I do think that could have been a little shorter. Loved the top ten materials for each of the age groups! It took a while to get to the actual activities section of the book which is what I was most looking forward to, however on reflection it is refreshing to read about the actual set up of art projects etc. I took a few tips on how to store our vast amount of art materials more effectively. A core text for parents and educators alike.

This book is the revised edition of The Artful Parent, so it's been about for some time now. I have seen both editions and love both.

The aim of this book is to encourage parents to encourage their kids to be creative, which, I think, means that parents should be more creative in looking at creativity. (I'm overusing the words on purpose :-) )

If you have children, or grandchildren, and want them to use their natural creativity, get this book, read it, be creative with the kids, but also let them be creative on their own.

As the parent of little kids who love art projects, I absolutely love this book. There are lots of projects as well as practical tips for incorporating art in life. I appreciate the tips as to what art supplies to buy for each age. I sometimes get in a rut and this will give me a lot of great ideas for rainy and winter days. Every parent should have this book in their library.

Thank you netgalley for this book I’m exchange for an honest review.

As a crafter myself, I look forward to sharing art activities with my toddler whenever I am not working. This book was cute and looked really fun but it's not something I don't already know. But I do agree this would be helpful to those who aren't exposed to art everyday and it's a great guide for parents to bond with their kids.

A useful guide on how to incorporate art & creativity into a child’s everyday life.

Nicely provides both tips on how to use various media so that children’s imaginations are fostered in an open & positive environment.

. What an absolute joy this book is! Though I’m unfamiliar with the author, the title caught my attention. For a mom who shares a (rented) home with 4 children under 5 years old, the words art, creative, paint, and the likes evoke a deep sense of anxiety and guilt!

So what is an artful parent? Is it the parent who perfectly orchestrates neat or messy art projects? One who is effortlessly artsy and creative herself? Is it an extension of the Pinterest perfect DIY queen?! Nope. It’s simply one who sees art as a way of life. One who encourages and created opportunities for her littles to express themselves through various mediums of art.

If you’re looking for a simple, comprehensive, un-intimidating guide on the why, when, and how-to of artful parenting, you’ve found it here!

I loved this book and took many great ideas away from it. I homeschool my children and my daughter loves artwork. This had great ideas about art projects I can incorporate into our day that allow my daughter the freedom to be creative and express herself (unlike many of the directed crafts I come across).

Adorable ~ Approachable ~ Pretty

tl; dr: Making is easy and essential for young ones.

I taught studio programs for many years for a big museum. My own children used exactos at 5, often being my guinea pigs for projects. I admit that I requested this ARC half-expecting to be too jaded to enjoy it. I loved this book. It is simple but not simplistic. It is attractive but not twee. Mostly, it is approachable. Families who live in fear of snow days should grab a copy to have when cabin fever approaches. But, even more, the author's approach shows how "messy" projects can be part of every life. When I taught, I was stunned at how few families paint at home. And, unlike Pinterest, where every project is supposed to be photo-ready and insanely "unique" this book sets everything out simply. Finally, two more selling points: these are art projects, not cookie-cutter crafts and the author makes clean-up part of the story. Overall, fantastic.

Thanks to NetGallery for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wasn’t very impressed with this book. Had expected more but felt there was to much talking rather than ideas.
