Amanda Foody has cemented herself as a new powerhouse in Young Adult fiction. KING OF FOOLS grabs you from the first page and refuses to let go, staying with you long after the final page. It takes everything that was so successful in the first book and makes it even better. Ruthless, intense, and guaranteed to bring you to tears. This series is a must-read.

This was an excellent addition to the series but I do think it suffered a little of the second book syndrome. It took a little while to get going but once it did I was involved! Enne is such a strong character and it's so refreshing to have a female lead like her! This one was definitely action packed, even more so than the first. I look forward to book three to see how everything wraps up.

This series is alright. It’s very similar to Caraval at least to me. I don’t feel any attachment to any of the characters and I don’t really like the fact that there are curse words that are made up by using different words.

I have not had the time or interest to get through this book, unfortunately. I requested based on the author and would love to get to it eventually.

It took two books to get there, but this series is finally living up to its premise.

The first book in the Shadow Game series was decent, but the premise was better than what actually showed up on the pages.

Book two in the series finally starts making good use of the setting, and more importantly, finally makes you care about a cast of characters who felt flat and generic in the first book.

I still feel like the Las Vegas style atmosphere could be put to better use (can’t we incorporate some element of the many interesting things Vegas has to offer besides gambling?) and there’s still way too much angst (common in YA fantasy but annoying nonetheless).

But the magic system has finally come into its own, the complexity of the politics is starting to pay off, and Enne and Levi finally captured my empathy in this installment.

This was such a fun read, It was complex and reminded me of the night circus a little as well as caraval. There is a level of intrigue and it ran through the entire story. I adored the first book and this one only added to it. It went in some unexpected turns. I loved every moment it was fun, action-packed, and made room for more exploration in the character relationships which I really enjoyed.

Levi has been on the streets for five years .Destiny strikes when he sees a wanted poster. Levi has a bodyguard. He is injured. Levi and enne have completed the shadow game and are wanted. Levi didn't want to fall for enne. Levi is a card dealer and may have killed someone under another name. I really like levi

4.5/5 Stars

This is the second book in The Shadow Game trilogy! This took me over a year to read, not due to lack of enjoyment, but due to not wanting to leave these characters behind and have to wait a ridiculous amount of time for the next book. I love all three of the POVs we get in this book. I adore Levi, Enne and Jac with my whole heart. The book is radically different from the first, but in the best way possible. The political intrigue and suspense is so well done. The one thing I will complain about is the ending...I am extremely bitter, and I NEED THE LAST BOOK ASAP.

It was a really good continuation of the series. Enne’s a fierce and strong woman who knows how to get what she wants. I really liked watching her relationship with Levi grow. I wasn’t expecting Levi to be Bisexual but it worked within the book. It was a little long and I felt it could’ve been cut by a hundred pages or so. But it was still entertaining and I’m looking forward to seeing how the series plays out in book 3.

A really solid sequel! The politics of this world is so fascinating to me, and the magic system is also really interesting. However, I wish both of these aspects would be explained more.

I’m so glad that this book added Jac’s POV into the story. I liked seeing his past with Levi. Enne’s POV wasn’t my favorite tbh. I found her character to be kind of one note because she just kept thinking about how she used to be prom and proper and now hates her new life.

A fantastic middle book in this series, it didn't fall into the typical "dreaded middle book" fate like many do. The plot held its own and the characters developed in ways that felt natural and not forced, and we are left wanting so much more!!
Levi and Enne are what really make this series special. Two very different people from two very different worlds who come to realize they have many commonalities. New reynes is a fantastic world for the morally grey, a place that thrives on gambling, games, and debts of lives. A wonderful installment.

Rating 3.5. This series keeps getting more interesting. It definitely left me wanting more and hopefully the last book delivers. While I'm still upset about a certain event, I hope it gets resolved in the next one.

I received an ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Dnf at chapter 32. I thought I was going to love this since I loved ace of shades but this just felt forced and longggggg. I lost all interest

Wow. This book surprised me. I must say Amanda Foodys writing has greatly improved in this book and that’s why I love reading debut series because not only do you witness the growth of the characters and plot but the growth of the author as well. I will admit there was some parts of this book were the plot lagged and it got a bit boring. I almost wish it was a little shorter. But the characters and world building are so unique and I was hard core routing for enne and Levi the whole time!! Love this world!

I enjoyed the first book in the series, but not enough to continue with the sequel. It did not grasp and hold my attention as much as I would have hoped based on the synopsis.

I read the first book and full discloser I LOVED IT! So I had high hopes for this one. I think the writing is amazing (Amanda can build a world and tension like no other) but I felt like some parts of the plot left me wanting more. This is still a fantastic book and I completely recommend it, but I would have like to see a little more character development and plot definition.

So I was sadly bored. I enjoyed the first one well enough, and this one was really slow and dragged on. I just felt like nothing was going on, and a lot of the issues the main couple had was that they didn't tell each other anything. They kept things a secret to "protect them". But I did enjoy the main couple and everything, but it was frustrating knowing they could be on the same page if they only opened their mouths and told the truth and told everything! I really just think that this book dragged and I was waiting for more to happen in this novel, and it felt like it took me forever to get through even a small part of this novel. I'm really bummed about it, but I will definitely continue to read her books in the future.

Plot twists, girl gangs, character growth (some believable...some...not-so-much). This book really went all out, but a little too much over the top. It should have been better edited. There were times I wanted to give up. There were times I fell asleep and the huge tomb fell out of my hands and went crashing to the floor waking me up with a loud boom. It was too long and kept repeating itself; huge chunks of it could have been eliminated to make it move faster. I kept getting confused and wondering if had fallen asleep or if it had been the writing. The character growth for Jac was excellent; he became his own "legend" and broke free of Levi. I loved his storyline and was disappointed but not distraught at the ending. Erienne, however, was nearly a different character from the first and second book. I wasn't sure if I swallowed her transformation and am not sure if I'm connected enough with the characters to continue with the series. Instead of feeling exhilarated for the next one, I just feel tired after finishing these 600 pages.

I'm usually not a fan of sequels, they never live up to the hype of the first book to me, this is an exception. It picks up right where the first book left off. It's even more action packed. The writing has improved. It really sucks you in.
