For me this book was hit and miss. I like the concept of taking biblical women and sharing their stories in a relatable way. But, I felt the author took some liberties and I just didn’t agree with her personal interpretations in some places. I felt she strayed from what the biblical text truly says, but that’s just my opinion.

I am familiar with the notion of applying biblical character to current reality but find, sometimes it's more productive to apply current reality to biblical character and extrapolate a response the plays out over time. In this sense I've found this volume helpful. However I've also found that is not a volume that breaks new ground.

There are several things to praise about this book, including the portrayal of some diversity on the cover which I have found to be rare in Christian literature. I thoroughly enjoy the concept of a book featuring five women of the Bible (Ruth, Hannah, Delilah, Eve and Martha) and their stories, because we could definitely use more of these. I enjoy it even more with the approach reflecting the Real Housewives of ___________ model. The general model starts with the women's story then transitions to three lessons that can be gleaned from it. The lessons are messages I enjoy seeing in writing as they are largely encouraging and positive messages for women. The discussion questions provided at the end are great for personal reflection or for small group discussion.

Unfortunately, in the end, it fell flat for me. In my opinion there are some biblical liberties taken with the stories that made me question some of the content. Additionally, there is too much of an effort by the author to write something relevant. The content is littered with unsatisfying jokes and the "trying too hard" feeling. This might not be as big of an issue for others. On face value I felt that I was the target audience for this book after reading, however after finishing it I do not feel the same way.
