Wow wow wow. This book was positively riveting. A 'Black Mirror'ish look at the lengths a grieving husband -who is a tech genius - will go to get what he wants. I don't want to give too much away but this was one of the most unique and spellbinding books I've ever read. It kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat until the end. It was so well written with fantastic character development - so much so that I became emotionally invested in the "replacement" Abbie. I cannot say enough about this book. I anxiously tore through every page.. Kudos to the author too, for showing the struggles of having an autistic child. A truly unputdownable book that I give my highest recommendation to! Thank you to Net Galley for the sneak peak!

Abbie Cullen-Scott wakes up to find that she has been in a comma for 5 years. Her husband, Tim Scott, a tech giant genius informs her that she is actually a robot. His wife had been missing for 5 years. In order for him to get over his grief, he worked diligently through this company Scott Robotics for 5 years to make sure that he designed an exact replica of his wife. Once Abbie awoke, Tim whisked her out of the hospital, which didn’t seem normal to anyone. This whole situation is very confusing to Abbie. She feels like her old self and even had memories of the past, so how could she be a robot? She even remembers that she has a son, Danny, who is autistic. How has Danny been taken care of, since she was in a coma? Everyone who meets Abbie actually thinks she is the real deal. Tim had designed Abbie with an empathic personality. This was something that never before been attempted. Abbie actually is experiencing feelings of love for Tim. Even though he says he loves her, he doesn’t reciprocate with any real loving actions. So what happened to his real wife? Abbie finds all kinds of clues that point her to A Friend. What information will this Friend have to share with Abbie? What is Tim hiding from her? Where is his real wife? Is she alive? So many questions, and hardly any real answers. This book definitely will give you something to think about, especially with the rise of robots in our current society. The plot was definitely something that I would not have even imagined possible for a book. It kept me completely captivated until the very end. The character development was very well thought out. These ending was one that I didn’t expect. I enjoyed this book quite a bit.

From the author of "The Girl Before" comes an enthralling sci-fi thriller that will keep you second guessing yourself while gripping the edge of your seat.

Abbie wakes up to find she isn't a human, but a cobot, a creation by her husband Tim. Abbie actually died nearly five years before and her genius husband replicated her (along with other subjects) so their loved ones could continue to live on with their presence.

But is Tim telling the truth? What really happened five years ago? Abbie must figure out the difference between lies and truths in this new age novel.

This book sucked me in from the beginning. Other than the fact that I love Delaney's previous book, The Girl Before, I felt that the premise of this story was unique. Books involving AI (artificial intelligence) have been gaining popularity and this one will truly freak you out.

After finishing the novel (and even while reading certain parts), I kept thinking to myself, "Is this possible? What kind of world do we live in where these thoughts exist?" So even though the book itself is amazing, both in plot, characters, and the overall morals of the story, it also poses the question, "How far is too far?"

Seriously, if you like thrillers, technology, or both, pre-order this book now. You will not be disappointed!

Abbie awakens in a daze with no memory of who she is or how she landed in this unsettling condition. The man by her side claims to be her husband. He’s a titan of the tech world, the founder of one of Silicon Valley’s most innovative start-ups. He tells Abbie that she is a gifted artist, an avid surfer, a loving mother to their young son, and the perfect wife. He says she had a terrible accident five years ago and that, through a huge technological breakthrough, she has been brought back from the abyss.

This is a modern day Westworld situation with a housewife silicon valley twist. Very interesting perspectives on AI and the love a mother has for her child. So many plot twists and shocking moments that keep the reader intrigued though out the entire read.

This book is totally out of my usual genre, but I loved it! This is JP Delaney best book yet and I love all her books. Without giving to much away, better to experience this book not knowing much, this book is creepy, the Stepford Wives-ish and complete engrossing. I couldn't stop reading it, when I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about reading it.

I almost put this book done when I saw this was about robot like creatures. I’m glad I didn’t make this mistake. What an exciting and different story. Enjoyed it sooo much and it had a very good ending!
I need to read more by JP Delaney. #NetGalley

Couldn't put it down! So many interesting twists. It was obvious the author had researched/was familiar with the subject of autism and portrayed it in a really realistic way. It was a real thought provoking "what if", too, about the future of robotics.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC for my honest opinion.

This has been one of the best books I have read all year. It is a unique and interesting take on the psychological thriller with a twist I did not see at all!

I was just planning to peruse the first chapter, but found I could not put this suspenseful story down. It is an intriguing mix of a family drama, a glimpse into autism, and the high tech world of SiliconValley experimenting with Artificial Intelligence. This AI took the form of a bot with a human’s form along with memories and empathy. To switch between characters, the author used second person pronouns and present tense for one of the characters. I understood the use of this device, but it was a bit off-putting. On the whole it was a very interesting read. I especially appreciated the author’s notes that followed the novel. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of the book. #ThePerfectWife

Before reading this book, I barely skimmed the synopsis. Let's just say I was not expecting a robotic replacement wife to be the book's main character. This book was different from the start and because of that, intriguing. It broke the mold of the typical thrillers that are being pumped out today. I will preface this by saying that I know very little of artificial intelligence and what is actually reasonable to believe in the realm of AI. Since I had very little to go off of, it was easy to get swept away in the creepiness of a robot taking the place of a dead wife. For those more tech savvy, the plot holes might be glaringly obvious. There were some twists that I didn't see coming that provided that thriller *gasp* that you hope for in a book but some moments felt forced as if trying to tick the thriller book boxes. At one point, I'm pretty sure someone walks into a dark room and says "It was me" - or something to that dramatic movie effect. The second person narration didn't really make sense to me and even after finishing the book, I'm not sure I felt that subjecting the reader to this narration style was really "worth it". In general, it's hard to connect to a character that is not human and whose capability of emotion is hard to even fathom. If you are looking for a different thriller, one that breaks the mold of "cheating husband and sneaky wife" - this book is definitely an enjoyable read. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this book!

This book is twisted and effed up in so many ways, and knowing that this version of reality isn’t too far off is even scarier. I can’t tell if I loved it or hated it, but at least it got me thinking about unintended consequences.

JP Delaney is original, that is for sure! I recently read his previous novels, Believe Me and The Girl Before, and I had major opinions about both. With his upcoming The Perfect Wife going into the realm of science-fiction, Delaney is able to break the mold of his previous domestic thrillers and have a new one in its own world. The story centers around the protagonist Abbie basically being resurrected, using the power of her husband Tim's robotics company. Tim's wife Abbie died five years ago, but with his money and power, Tim's company was able to change modern science, and bring her back. Of course, this Abbie is different and molded from the memories her husband was able to program into her. Abbie seems to have lost particular moments in her memory—where/how she died, how was the actual status of her relationship—Abbie can't seem to remember anything. As Abbie begins to piece moments of her old life back together, she starts seeing the mystery behind her past that some wish stayed hidden.

I give JP Delaney a lot of kudos for tailoring a science-fiction/domestic thriller, without coming off unbelievable or childish. The Perfect Wife is a strong mystery/thriller, and you actually end up forgetting about the world of robots, and accepting it for face value in this story. The Perfect Wife talks a lot about the autism spectrum, and I found out that the author's son is on the spectrum, which is why this story is so important to him. I really enjoyed learning more about that aspect in the story, and am curious to learn more. This is my biggest takeaway from the novel, and I'm grateful to have had a peek into this reality. If you've enjoyed Delaney's previous novels, you'll definitely enjoy this one as well.

This was a difficult book to get into. Wasn’t sure how to relate to the AI narrative, and as the story progressed, found few characters I could really like, or feel any connection with. The book was interesting and well written, and I definitely wanted to know the solution, but I’m disappointed with books with no redeeming qualities in the characters. And the ending was a bit disappointing. The information on autism was good, though sad. Was interesting to read the author notes at the end.
As a mystery and thriller others may enjoy it, I just don’t care for stories with no one I can care about in the story. I did enjoy all the books I’ve read by this author. I received a free arc in exchange for an honest review.

Best description of this book? The Stepford Wives, now with modern conveniences like GPS tracking. Definitely one for fans of Westworld or Black Mirror where things aren't always what they seem and there are some moral takeaways to ponder. Overall, a fun read with never a dull moment.
