Ive loved JP Delaney’s other books so when I saw this book available on Netgalley I knew I had to request it and was so happy to be approved without ever reading the book description. When I realized the main character was a robot and that the book had a sci-fi element I was a little apprehensive but went into it with an open mind. The way the chapters went back and fourth between timelines was a little hard to get into at first but once I realized what was going on it made it easier to understand. I also enjoyed the parts about autism and ABA due to my field of work. This book was a great thriller and the perfect amount of “messed up”. Devoured in one sitting and will be recommending to my other book loving friends.

This book took me for a ride and a half!
Tim Scott is a tech giant in Silicon Valley and he lost his wife 5 years ago. He uses his company to create a companion robot that looks, talks and has a lot of the memories of his wife built in. Then through AI, learned experiences, books, text messages, emails and much more the robot learns to become more and more like this wife. Quite eerily, Tim calls the robot by the name of his missing wife.
However, the robot soon starts learning that everything is not as has been relayed to it and it starts straying from the expected behavior, wondering who to lean on and questioning the motives of all the humans in its world.
It is a fascinating story that pulled it in and wouldn't let go. Several times my expectations got ripped up, flipped around and twisted.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ecopy for my Kindle.
A psychological thriller like none you've every read with surprises plus twists and turns along the way with one or two at the end of the story.
IF you could recreate a lost love one via robotics or an electronic means, would you? And is the altered person safe, secure, or even viable?
Just a little to dark for me.....

Abbie Cullen Scott has disappeared and no one is sure if she died in a tragic surfing accident or committed suicide. Her husband Tim uses his company and knowledge to created a life size artificial intelligence in her image. But, will his end to the means be what he sets out to do? Will the artificial Abbie take on more human than he expected? Or will his genius mind destroy what’s real or unthinkable?

Holy snap J.P. Delaney, just when I thought you couldn’t get any better you surprised me with “The Perfect Wife.” I couldn’t stop reading as I was so hungry for the end! My husband wanted dinner, what? I can’t stop now, I think we have awesome soup in the pantry🤦‍♀️
Thank you Netgalley & Random House for allowing me a ARC!!! You made my March!!!

WOW Where to begin?
I was really excited to read this book as I loved the synopsis.
This book was so not what I expected a Psychological thriller to be. To me it was more of a Sci-Fi Thriller due to the technology and robotics.
While I'm not a Sci-Fi fan at all I did get through this as I really like J.P. Delaney's writing style and look forward to reading his other books.
I found myself really reading fast in the thrilling parts and just skimming through the Sci-Fi parts.
All in all it was written really well and the Autism parts were interesting.
Oh and I didn't see that ending coming!

I want to extend a huge thank you to Netgalley for an advanced reader copy of The Perfect Wife by JP Delaney in exchange for my honest review. I have loved Delaney’s prior novels, so I was eager to read the next. I was not disappointed! I devoured this psychological thriller. The Perfect Wife easily places as my favorite book of 2019. This mystery has so much depth to it, and so many twists, that I worry about divulging anything in this review. Reading the premise one might think this is a sci-fi novel; however, I am not a science fiction reader and I loved the storyline. With artificial intelligence technology gains increasing daily JP Delaney’s novel is spooky and realistic. I will not be surprised when a movie adaptation appears for this novel. After this read, I can safely say, I am a JP Delaney fan.

I've never read a psychological thriller involving AI before, but I liked it! The technology aspect was interesting without being overwhelming, the plot moved along steadily throughout and the end wasn't what I was expecting at all.

“Robot wives make the best wives.” The whole concept of AI and companion robots is so foreign to me but also so interesting to imagine.
I absolutely loved this book! J.P. Delaney did a wonderful job of weaving suspense, romance and sci-fi together seamlessly.
I highly recommend checking this book out.

I jist couldn’t get into this book. I tried several times, but never got more than a quarter though. I finally am giving up. I am disappointed as I like this author and had great hopes.

The Perfect Wife is full of surprises and I enjoyed every one of them. This book is well written with interesting characters. The story involves artificial intelligence (AI) in a way that was fresh and believable.and at times horrifyingly possible. Whatever you think about AI, there are moral and ethical issues about their use in this thought-provoking novel. The story is easily understood without a lot of boring technical explanations that I wouldn't have understood anyway.

In contrast to artificial intelligence robotics Heller's syndrome or late onset autism is an integral part of the story. It is one of the least known diseases on the autism spectrum and might be one of the most difficult diagnoses to accept. Imagine the heartbreak of parents who are raising a child who is reaching early milestones at a normal rate and then one day all that behavior disappears.

JP Delaney delivered a great book that held my interest right up to the clever end. At one point I'm pretty sure I was reading with my jaw dropped opened in surprise.

I received an Advanced Readers Copy from Ballantine Books through NetGalley. The opinions expressed are entirely my own.

When tech guru Tim's wife Abbie goes missing, everyone assumes she is dead. So Tim uses cutting edge technology to recreate Abbie as a robot, a robot with feelings and memories and intuition. I won't say much more than that, because I think the book is more interesting if you just read it blind and go along for the ride.

This is a crazy book about robots and marriage and autism! Which sounds like a very random assortment of topics. But all together it mostly works, though I had problems with a few things.

This book mostly uses second person to tell the story from the robot Abbie's point of view. But it also uses third person and even a little 1st person at times. I have mixed feelings on the different point of views. Second person is always hard to read, and I wasn't sure at first. Though when I saw how all the points of views came together at the end, it all made sense.

I'm also not sure what I think about the end of this book. There was one point where it just didn't make sense at all. Like two chapters almost seem to give completely contradictory accounts of the same event. I re-read it to try to make sense of it, but I'm not sure that I fully understood how it could possibly work as written.

Despite the few issues that I had with the book, it is an interesting and unusual story. Especially if you are a fan of sci-fi thrillers, it may be a good fit for you!

I thought this book was very well written and fascinating. Kudos to the author for writing such a different book- techy but easily understood. I think this would be a good fit for a lot of different readers. Part romance, part mystery, definitely sci-fi and worth reading. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this book!!!

I wanted to love this. I am big fan of the authors' two previous books. I just do not like sci-fi. In all fairness, this is well written, good characterization but just not my thing. I do, however, look froward to more from this author! Thank you #NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!

I liked this book. It was an extremely unique point of view and not at all what I was expecting. What I liked about the book is that again, it was a super creative concept, focusing on artificial intelligence and "cobots" (companion robots) after the mysterious disappearance of Abbie Cullen-Scott, the wife of tech genius Tim Scott. Tim creates "Abbie" the cobot for what she initially thinks is to replace the human Abbie as the wife in the household to help Tim and their autistic son Danny move on from their grief. I also really enjoyed the portrayal of young Danny, his disease and his therapies. It was a very well written and realistic portrayal of autism (you learn in the author's note that Delaney as a son with autism) and was really the only full fledged character development in the story.

On the flip side, what I didn't like. This whole book centers around Abbie, who we only ever get to know through an second person narrator and through Abbie the cobot. Her motivations are never really that clear and what you learn about Tim later in the novel makes it very hard to believe that she would stay or why she ever would have fallen and married Tim in the first place. In my opinion, neither Abbie nor Tim are very likable characters and really no one to root for. There is also a few red herrings that aren't very fleshed out and kind of fall off the wayside at the end.

In conclusion, I give this book 3 stars, it definitely is a novel that makes you think and reconsider artificial intelligence as more of a possibility in real life rather than the "sci fi" aspect that you normally think of with robots. However, the "thriller" tag isn't super accurate, needs to be categorized as "sci fi" so it wasn't what I was expecting. It is a clever story, but falls short on character development.

JP Delaney strikes again with a futuristic psychological thriller. Great story of our human needs and obsessions. The question is, just how far will we go to meet those needs? Dark and complex characters that kept me guessing until the last breathtaking scene.

What a great ride. Never have I connected so well with an AI character. I loved the different voices and figuring out who the unidentified narrator was. The ending was very unpredictable even to a seasoned reader of suspense and mystery. I can't recommend this book enough!

This is the first book I’ve read by J.P. Delaney, and it wasn’t quite what I was expecting. In fact, it was even better! From the very first page I was trying to guess where this storyline was going, and I was kept guessing until the very end. Abbie was a fantastic character, and the spin that Delaney put on this story was so unique and consuming. It was fascinating getting to know Abbie as she was unraveling memories and, in a sense, getting to re-know herself. As more secrets were brought to light, Abbie’s “motherly instincts” kicked in, and she was determined to do whatever it took to protect her son...even if it meant doing the very same thing that led up to her accident five years ago.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! At first it seemed odd to me that it was told through second-person POV, but I think it helped to further separate the present-day Abbie from the Abbie prior to the accident. Really creative of the author to do that!

This is a very original book idea, unlike anything I have read before. When I first downloaded it I was not aware that it was a sci-fi book which is not my norm. But I went into it with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised. It was interesting and page turning and a little eerie in concept and the way things were described. Technology is amazing but a robot wife created by her husband? Wow.Overall I definitely recommend if sci fi and psychological thrillers are your thing!

Abbie is married to the best husband. They also have a very special child, a child with autism. Tim has always said Abbie is the perfect wife. This should be an awesome compliment. It isn't. Tim is the owner of an up and rising company. They are building shop robots. A1's that can interact with humans. They look life-like and seem to be empathetic in all respects. When Tim's wife, Abbie disappears and is presumed dead, Tim builds a dead ringer A1 that is the exact replica of his wife. Then the A1 starts generating it's own thoughts and feelings. It definitely does not agree with how the young son is being taught at school. They use adverse technology. An electric shock is administered when the autistic child does something that is not right. Abbie-A1 decides to leave with the son. She is taking him to his mother. Abbie has been found and is waiting to be reconnected with her son. Then she can say she has left a bad marriage and rescued her son. That is her ultimate goal.
This was an intriguing and exciting read. It has a great concept for the storyline. It keeps you guessing right up to the end.
Excellent!!

This book is definitely unlike anything I've ever read before. It was fascinating to read about a "cobot" who has essentially taken the place of a human. It's also unnerving to think that robots could have the same, if not more, capabilities as humans, with higher thinking and the intelligence to retrieve memories. The storyline will have you hanging on to every word waiting to see what's going to happen next. I really enjoyed reading the two different timelines and trying to piece it all together and predict how it would end. It was disturbing yet enticing, and I couldn't put it down. I don't want to give anything away, so I'll just say this book was crazy, super addicting, and absolutely worth the read.
