I don’t know why author Elizabeth Karmel choose to write a cookbook pairing steak and cake. And really, I don’t cake. I’m just beyond happy that she did! I mean, come on. Steak and Cake! Like I wasn’t going to check this book out.

The first thing I was to say about STEAK AND CAKE is . . . PHOTOS! Yes, this delicious cookbook has big, beautiful color photos (by Stephen Hamilton) for every single recipe! If you follow my cookbook reviews, you know how much this thrills me. Seriously, Ms. Karmel, if you’re reading this, Thank you!

As I continue writing this review, my stomach is growling and I have drool forming. Going back and forth from steak recipes and the best cakes to pair with them for dessert, it has set my taste buds off! Some of the combinations recommend by the author are . . . Red-Hot Cast-Iron Steak with Perfect Crust and Gingerbread with Orange Marmalade and Grand Mariner Glaze, Classic New York Steakhouse Strip with Beefsteak Tomatoes and Sizzling Thick Bacon and Onions and Potus Carrot Cake, Steak Diane with Twice-Baked Potatoes and Retro Chocolate Cupcakes with a Sweet Mascarpone Center, Sizzlin’ Steak Kabobs with Salsa Verde and Pecan-Studded Rum Cake, Hanger Steak with Garlic Smashed Potatoes and Banana Pudding Ice Cream Cake, and so many more!

STEAK AND CAKE is a well thought out cookbook. Besides the amazing recipes and fantastic photos, the author offers conversion tables, and steak and cake primers. A perfect mix of savory steaks (with side dishes) and sweet cakes, you have a meal from beginning to end laid out for you in just a few pages!

My husband and I have what we call “Steak Sundays”. We always have steak for dinner on Sundays and are always looking for fun new recipes to try out. When I saw a cookbook titled “Steak and Cake”, I knew I had to get it! I’m the baker and he’s the steak guy so this book was right up our alley! This cookbook is full of insight and tips into cooking and buying steak, with side dishes and dessert pairings. The photos are beautiful and the recipes doable. We tried the Carne Asada steak, the Mexican Street Corn Salad, and the Chocolate Candy Bar Cake last weekend. They were all delicious and we are looking forward to our next Steak Sunday so we can try another trio of recipes from this book. Thank you to the publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

Let them eat cake—and steak! This unique cookbook shares more than 100 recipes that beg to be prepared, paired, and eaten with pure joy. Not only will you find some of the best recipes ever for steak—and steakhouse sides and sauces—and those all-butter-eggs-and-sugar cakes, but you will also pick up tips and tricks for choosing and cooking steaks and baking cakes. The result is an instant dinner party, the kind of universally loved meal that makes any and every occasion special.

This was such a great book that I never knew I needed! There's so many great pairings, ones that I never would have thought of, along with amazing photos to give you a visual of how tasty these dishes will look. I can't wait to try all of these recipes!

I volunteered to review this cookbook in exchange for a pre-publication sample of the cookbook. It has just about every different versions and tastes of steal along with appropriate side dishes and cake that go well with the steak. I have to buy this cookbook! It even has a recipe for Tex Mex sheet cake (my favorite). I'm always on the lookout for different ways to spice and prep steak. I also love to bake from scratch,

I loved the concept of the Steak and Cake cookbook by Elizabeth Karmel but I wasn't super thrilled with the availability or cost of some of the recipes given. For example the author gives a recipe pairing for Tomahawk Steak and Baked Cinnamon-Sugar Doughnut Puffs. (The author pairs a steak recipe with a cake recipe to round out the meal in a memorable way.) I've never heard of a Tomahawk Steak and I find it highly unlikely I will find a Tomahawk Steak at my local grocery store. Fortunately the author explained what the Tomahawk steak was in her section called Steak Primer. I found a photo of the steak, along with where the steak is found in the cow, and the cost to buy the steak. In case you are interested the Tomahawk Steak is considered luxury cut.

I did appreciate the author's extensive tips for both cooking the steaks and baking the cakes.

Some of the recipe pairings you will find include:

Steak Tacos and Margarita Tres Leche Cake
Hangar Steak and Banana Pudding Ice Cream Cake
Steak Frites and Brown Sugar Pound Cake

I would have probably liked this cookbook a bit more if the recipes were a bit easier to make.

Recommend.

OH MY, where to start! First, get the grill and oven ready, cause you are gonna want to cook EVERY recipe in this book! SERIOUSLY- they are ALL that good! Course, that's ONLY after you get past look at the AMAZING photos on every page of EVERY recipe! Kudos to knowing what foodies and cooks want, with that! the recipes are very straightforward, and most ingredients can be found in your pantry, making it a good all-purpose baking book, and even the steak recipes don't have outlandish, hard to find ingredients. In fact, the steak recipes may quickly become your favorite ones, as they teach you how to really bring out the full flavor of each cut of meat! This is an superb cookbook, and one perfect for gift giving and keeping yourself. I know I'll be getting the print edition to keep on hand as my go-to book! And since it's coming out at the end of the month, you can grab a copy for mom AND for yourself!

Let them eat cake—and steak! Over 100 great recipes for steaks and cakes. I enjoyed the book and jotted some down for the weekend. This is a nice twist on STEAK and CAKE. I will definitely recommend the book and get a copy for reference.

Thank you NetGalley for the advance copy for review and making me Hungry.

Steak and cake are a classic favorite meal pairing worthy of a night out or a special occasion (I request them every year for my birthday). Instead of organizing the cookbook by main dish and then desserts, Karmel pairs each steak with a particular cake--such as cast-iron lemon steak and Houston banana loaf cake, or New York strip with chocolate layer cake (yes, please!). Lots of great photos, cute vintage fonts, and clearly-written recipes with personal anecdotes.

If you’re thinking, wait a minute do
I really need a cookbook that’s solely cake and steak?? Yes, yes you do!

Elizabeth Karmel expertly and effortlessly pairs the best cake and steak combinations for the true carnivore and sweets fan! I was very impressed by how fanciful the meals were and yet very accessible to the everyday cook!

You also can’t beat the absolutely stunning photographs of meat and sweet!

If you aren't hungry before you read this book, you definitely will be when you finish it. Who doesn't love a steak cooked to perfection and cake for dessert? Usually, you would need two different cookbooks, but with this book, you get great steak recipes and great cake recipes all in one book. My mouth is seriously watering right now.

This book is exactly what it sounds like: a scrumptious cookbook offering up pairings of steak/main dishes and cake/desserts. The author contends you can make better steaks and cakes at home, and just based on the recipes in this book I'd agree!

Not only does this book specialise in my two favourite foods in the whole world, it pairs them up as one would a cheese and wine.
The recipes are clear to follow and the pictures are mouth watering. I’m not even sure I need another cook book in my life now I know this exists.

Steak and Cake is a cookbook like none I've previously seen. Elizabeth Karmel says she never orders steak or cake while out to eat as she is almost always disappointed. Steaks and cakes are also two of the most intimidating dishes for home cooks to attempt. Karmel aims to take away this fear, and does so with a bounty of delicious recipes for steaks paired with cakes. Accompanying these recipes are beautiful photographs, which are sure to inspire readers to try their hands at these recipes. But what really makes Steak and Cake a must purchase are the steak and cake primers located in the back of the book. These sections have invaluable information on how to purchase steak, the differences between various cuts, information about buying cake pans, and basic cake recipes. This book is unique and may seem at first to have limited usage, but this book will prove to be a valuable tool.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
