A young girl is kidnapped, betrayed by someone who is supposed to protect her. Gwen Proctor, formerly Gina Royal is doing the best to create a normal life for her children after the death of her serial killer ex-husband, Melvin. Somehow even though he is dead, Melvin continues to interrupt their lives. She doesn’t know how she would survive without Sam Cade, her lover and brother of one of Melvin’s victims. When after lengthy discussions and promises made, Gwen agrees to appear on a show about her ex-husband. She wants to make clear, to those who are still interested in persecuting her and her children, that they knew nothing about his evil other life. As things go out of control, Gwen realizes that she has been ambushed by the show. Has she made things worse for her family? Gwen receives a plea for help from a woman in Wolfhunter, but arrives too late. Has Gwen been set up? What happened to the young girl that was kidnapped, is she still alive? Will Gwen be able to protect and save her children? A wonderful third book in this captivating series by Ms. Caine. This is the third installment of the Stillhouse Lake series. After the second book, I wasn't expecting to be another one. But then Miss Caine go ahead and add a third one. Not that I'm complaning.
I was actually so excited when I found out. I feel so invested with Gwen's story. But I also know it will be hard to surpass the first two books. It started real slow took a long time to pick up. But once it did, I was engrossed. It is action-packed and full of suspense. There's also few surprising twists and turns that I really appreciate. The ending certainly make up for the slow start. Emotional, gripping, and definitely worth the read.

I had high hopes for Wolfhunter River but I was left slightly disappointed. The beginning is what killed it for me. It did not hold the same creepiness that Stillhouse Lake started with. I remember reading Stillhouse Lake and feeling the goosebumps grow on my arms because of how drawn in I was to Gwen's life. Wolfhunter River felt slow and uneventful up until the last quarter of the book. I also wish there would have been a stronger character presence. With that being said, I was happy with the ending. Things picked up, Gwen, Sam, Lanny, and Conner all begin playing stronger roles and I especially enjoyed Conner and the added emotion he brings. Overall, I was not blown away and really felt like Rachel Caine could had stepped it up. So sad, because Stillhouse Lake was absolutely amazing.

I remember really liking the first two of the series but I worried that I would have trouble picking up easily where it left off (it’s been a while)... No fear, after a few pages I was right back there with Gwen, Sam, Lanny and Connor. This is some good writing and the characters are great.

I was curious how exactly the kidnapped child, Ellie, was going play out and if it would tie in with Gwen. The story unfolds slowly, though not painfully, so be patient. A lot of other horrible things precede the real action. There are plenty of healthy family meals cooked and mother/daughter runs to get through😉. They end up in one crazy town and the locals are something else!

I was wondering while reading this if this would be the final installment? My reason for this thinking is that how many times can you take this woman/family and stick them in peril and have it be believable or continue to have it be fresh and entertaining?? Well, get to the ending and you will find out. I didn’t expect that and am quite happy as this series has been really enjoyable so far and I look forward to the next!

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Thomas & Mercer for a copy in exchange for a review.

I loved this book! I fell in love with book 1 and couldnt get enough of Gwen's story. Book two was a slight let down for me, it just wasn't AS good at book 1. This book completely redeemed itself, I liked this almost as much as book one. I can't wait for more Gwen.

The tension didn’t die with Melvin Royal, that’s for sure. Even without him as the main antagonist, the atmosphere of being hunted remains.

There’s a lot going on but I think it’s setting the tone for what the rest of the series is going to be, without Melvin. I enjoy the direction it’s going. I’m sure the fallout from the past will still keep following Gwen but it would be nice to see the author move slowly away from that as the main plot point. Even in Wolfhunter, it got to be a little worn out and repetitive. Those threats will always loom but I like that it doesn’t look like it will be the central focus anymore.

I look forward to seeing where the next installment goes. Also looking forward to seeing what other bodies of water the author can use in the title.

I loved this suspenseful continuation of Gwen’s story with Sam and her children! I initially thought it was going to be an extension of the problems with her ex-husband but was pleasantly surprised to see a whole new story line! I love her strength and grit and undying protection of her loved ones! It is also great to read a book with such a strong female lead!

It’s hard to write a trilogy with the same basic characters and have them be based on the same basic plot but still have the story feel fresh and exciting. Caine absolutely succeeds at her craft and Wolfhunter River may have been my favorite book of the trilogy. Packed with action, real emotion, and several storylines, this was hard to put down. Caine did a great job by flashing back just enough to the prior novels to jog the reader’s memory without retelling the prior stories. I withheld a higher rating mostly for personal preference. I enjoy more realistic thrillers and felt that the Stillhouse Lake series was often over the top and completely implausible. That being said, they were all thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining reads!

Gwen feels drawn to the situation and is determined to help... but will she be too late or will it put her own family in further danger?

I really enjoyed Wolfhunter River. I liked how fast paced it was, it kept me interesting in reading it. I also, really enjoyed that Rachel Caine tied the book up nicely, but left it so there could be another book in the series. Which I hope there is!

This is a good thriller but I much preferred the first two books. However, this is a transitional book, so it’s not going to be as good. It is an enjoyable book with lots of interesting character developments.

The first two books in this series were amazing. Full of tension, suspense, intrigue and mystery. Everything wrapped up nice and neat at the end of book 2, so I was a bit surprised when I saw there was going to be another book in the series.
You most definitely have to have read both previous books in this series before starting ‘Wolfhunter River’. Especially if you want to really understand everything the characters have been through so far in their lives.
‘Wolfhunter River’ picks up about 6 months after ‘Killman Creek’. Gwen, Sam and the kids are trying to move on with their lives. And Gwen has started helping other women who are seeking her help and advice regarding their own awful situations.
This helping other women is what leads Gwen, Sam and the kids to the small remote town of Wolfhunter, where nothing is as it seems.
While I didn’t love this book as fiercely as I did for books 1 and 2 in series, it was still a good read. I enjoyed it. A solid 3.5 stars from me.

Elle White survived a marriage to a serial killer, but there are still people out there who think she was a part of her husbands crimes. A Mother of one of the victims is determined to bring Elle and her children down, no matter what it takes. Elle receives a cryptic call from a woman asking for help, claiming she will be killed because of what she knows. Elle is reluctant to get involved, it could be a trap. When the woman dies Elle feels compelled to find out what happened. She enters a world of evil all around her. She doesn’t know who to trust.

This is a great read. It is filled with suspense. I found myself getting angry on Elle’s behalf for all she has gone thru in her life. I literally couldn’t stop turning the pages. I couldn’t figure out how the book was going to end. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

I received this ARC for an honest review. This was a new series to me. I heard about it, but never read it. I know it’s silly to start a series in the third book. I only got through the first chapter. Even though I was following the story line without any problems, I had to read the first two. I LOVED what I was reading. This is a unique story. I read the first two in two days.
This series is about Gwen Proctor, Sam Cade, & Gwen’s two children Lanny and Connor. They are survivors of Gwen’s ex-husband who was a serial killer. Not going to give details BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO READ THIS SERIES! In this book, Gwen keeps getting phone calls for help from women who are in difficult situations (Not giving you more. Read the book) The latest call asking for help comes from a 15yr old girl whose mom called the day before and was found murdered. The police is pinning the murder on the daughter. Gwen feels guilty for not helping the mother so she goes to Wolfhunter Creek to help the daughter. A lot happens which I’m not going to tell you. YOU MUST READ THE BOOK!
This series really pulls you in and you go through so much with the charters. I am so happy I gave this series a chance, and I can’t wait for the next one.

Gwen, her children and Sam are back in the thick of it. There is so much going on in this book. There are a lot of twists and turns. It’s pretty fast paced through much of the book. There’s a lot of action in the book. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The writing is superb. I received an advance review copy from NetGalley for an honest review.

Wolfhunter River is the 3rd book in the Stillhouse Lake series. It tells the story of Gwen Proctor, the ex-wife of the notorious serial killer, Melvin Royal. In the previous 2 books, Gwen defeated Royal when he escaped from prison and came after her and their children. But in this book, the family still can not seem to get any peace as Royal’s so called “fan club” continues to torment them.
So, when Gwen receives a call from a woman in Wolfhunter River, who pleads for her help, Gwen thinks it’s the perfect time to get out of town, let her chaotic life calm down, and focus on someone else’s problems for a change. So, she, her boyfriend Sam, and her two kids head off to Wolfhunter River to find the woman who begged for her assistance. But unbeknownst to Gwen, the trouble that lay ahead is far more menacing than what she is leaving behind. There are dangerous factions around every corner in Wolfhunter River, each with their own agendas, and willing to do anything necessary to keep their secrets. It will take everything each member of this family has to escape this town alive.
I am a huge fan of this series! I thought the first two books would be hard to beat, but I was wrong. Each book in the series gets better and better! I love how the characters continue to develop throughout the series. I am continually rooting for them. And the action! It is totally non-stop in Wolfhunter River! This is not a book for the faint of heart! I felt like I couldn’t even take a breath until the explosive end. It’s a good thing I devoured it so quickly or I may not have survived! So, I guess you can tell that I heartily recommend this book, this whole series!! Definitely a must read for a suspense/ thriller fan! Happy reading!

The first book in this series is one of my favourite books. Unfortunately I haven't enjoyed either sequel as much. I found that this book in particular took a long time to get going and when it did eventually pick up pace there was so much going on that it became a little far fetched. I am very disappointed that I feel this way about this book as I really hoped that this episode would bring back the excitement I felt for the original.

The main storyline for this book was a good idea and maybe would have worked better with a different set of characters. After everything that Gwen and her family have suffered in the previous books it is difficult to understand why she would now choose to involve herself and her children in other peoples problems while she is still fearing for the safety of her own family at home.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advance copy of this title in return for an honest review.

Gwen Proctor can't stop being targeted by the following:
1) misplaced hatred;
2) bullying;
3) serial killers;
4) conspiracy theorist whack jobs; and
5) her own conscience.

I really loved this installment of the Stillhouse Lake series. It brought us to Wolfhunter River, a town with a soul even darker than Stillhouse Lake. Gwen and family flee Stillhouse Lake just as their lives are thrown into the public eye again, using the opportunity to help a W.R. resident as a worthy excuse. The Proctor gang, and Sam, are faced with more evil than they imagined, as they discover a wide web of deceit, conspiracy, and greed.

Rachel Caine did a great job of weaving Gwen's past with the present. She found an almost perfect balance between the two, leaving the reader with a thorough understanding of each character's motivations throughout the book.

I wouldn't recommend any of these books as a standalone novel. You really need to read them in order to get the full feeling I get from these books.

There are two negatives: first, the conflict between Gwen and Sam is ridiculous. Without providing a spoiler, I'll say that I think the author was really reaching here. Second, the resolution of one of the major themes in these stories was way too convenient. More reaching by Caine. I think she may have gotten so tied up with Wolfhunter River that she neglected Stillhouse Lake a bit. This is where the balance was imperfect, and I think it could have been resolved with a few more lines in the epilogue.

Wolfhunter River, by Rachel Caine, is the third book in the Stillhouse Lake Series. As the book opens, we see that Gwen Proctor is still living in Stillhouse Lake with her two children and partner, Sam. She continues to deal with the aftereffects of killing her husband, notorious serial killer Melvin Royal. Melvin had murdered several woman over the years right beneath Gwen's nose. While Gwen was unaware of the crimes and was eventually exonerated, she was never able to shake the notion that she was somehow involved. Gwen continued to be stalked, taunted, and threatened by various hate groups, determined to make her pay for Melvin's crimes.

While Gwen tries to put the past behind her in Stillhouse Lake, the horror continues. Gwen receives a call from a terrified woman, Marlene, in the neighboring town of Wolfhunter River. The woman begs Gwen to come to her town to speak with her, but won't provide any more details. At first resistant, Gwen changes her mind after the woman is murdered. Marlene's teenage daughter is blamed for the crime, but Gwen feels that there is more to the story. And she is determined to find out what exactly is going on in Wolfhunter.

With Sam and her children in tow, Gwen travels to Wolfhunter. Upon arriving in town, she realizes that the town is filled with many evil secrets that the townspeople are determined to keep hidden. As Gwen investigates, it becomes apparent that Marlene's death may be linked to a recent kidnapping, as well as recent disappearances of three young women. In a town as small as Wolfhunter, surely this cannot be a coincidence. Once the first dead body shows up, Gwen realizes that she has no time to lose. Someone is determined to keep Wolfhunter's secrets......at any cost.

If you have not yet read any of the series, what are you waiting for?? While each book could theoretically be read as a stand alone, I personally feel you will be more invested if you start at the beginning.. The series has all the needed components to have you tearing through pages late at night, all the while asking yourself "How well do I REALLY know my significant other?"

Wolfhunter River is my least favourite book in this series so far. It's obvious why, too. I still enjoy the author's style, I still enjoy the exploration of internet stalking and the "court of public opinion", but this book is so obviously a "bridging the gap" book.

If you've read Killman Creek, then you know the significance of that book's conclusion and how it essentially wrapped up the central story line of the first two books. With strong characters and a good fanbase, of course the author doesn't want to stop there. But now we need a new story to grow out of that. We need a reason for Gwen Proctor - badass mother of two - to go from being on the run to solving her own crimes. Which was always the natural direction for this series to go in.

In order to do that, we have this book. This book is, unfortunately, the filler between two plot points. It clings unnecessarily to old plot lines that should have been put to rest. It introduces some new mysteries that serve only to get Gwen where she needs to be. Virtually nothing happens for the first hundred pages (approx. 1/3 of the book), and little progression is made even in the second hundred pages. It isn't until the last third of the book that the story gets itself in gear. None of this is helped by the fact that I don't find Sam very interesting, so his subplot here left me unmoved.

It's not bad, as such, it's just not as strong as the previous books. I suspect more goodness is to follow in the fourth book now that we've got where we need to be. I still ended up quite enjoying parts of this one because of the aforementioned exploration of internet stalking and the "court of public opinion". These feature heavily in the series, and the author looks at how terrifying it is that we no longer need a court trial and prison. The court of public opinion can punish someone and ruin their life just as effectively, truth be damned.

It also explores some interesting and socially-relevant concepts like privacy in the Internet age. Sharing of information plays a huge part in the plot, as well as other techie aspects like manipulating images/video. These conversations keep the slower parts intriguing.

A weak point in the series but I still have high hopes for the next installment.
