This is my first Kate Watterson book, and I fairly enjoyed it. The plot was solid. I was definitely digging that. Dr. Cadence Lawrence has just run into the man she accused of murder back in High School. He may or may not now be stalking her so she high tails it out of Indianapolis for a while and then, ends up stuck in a snow storm with Mick. Her now knight in shining flannel.
While I was all for the plot, I didn’t feel much for the characters. They felt very one dimensional. The dialogues started out pretty strong, but as the book continued it got weedy and unrealistic. I think on their own each character was strong, but once brought together it kind of fell apart a little.
I think with a little character developing, a bit of polish on the interactions between the characters and this could definitely be a 4 star contender.
I will say though that I completely thought this was a thriller, but it was definitely more of a romantic suspense I think. If you don’t like that genre definitely don’t go into it thinking it is straight up thriller.

I enjoyed this book although it wasn’t what I expected. There was no whodunnit which is what i normally go for, it was more of a romance with a bit of thriller tossed in. It just left me feeling kind of “meh”. Maybe because for the the two genres didn’t mesh well together.

Thank you to Netgalley and Cooked Lane books for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review

Blindsided by Kate Watterson is a thriller that felt if at times it wanted to cross over into a romantic suspense read. The story is mainly told from the point of view of the main character, Cadence Lawrence, but there are times it will switch the point of view.

The story begins to unfold in the middle of a snowstorm on a dark and deserted road as we join Cadence as she runs from something. Cadence quickly finds herself stuck in the snow when her car breaks down but thankfully a man comes to her rescue before she freezes at the side of the road.

Invited to wait out the storm in the stranger’s cabin Cadence couldn’t help but be wary even through the kindness but as time passes she begins to share her story. A decade before Cadence had accused a man of murder and he had walked back into her life sending her on the run.

Blindsided by Kate Watterson was an easy to read thriller that when s tarting out I really thought I would be rating highly. However, this would be one that the further and further I get into it the more over the top or unbelievable I began to find the plot and the characters. In the end Blindsided ended up being around 2 1/2 stars for me despite the strong beginning.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Dr. Cadence Lawrence in running. She accidentally runs into the man who she is positive killed her high school friend 10 years ago. No one believed her then ... and no one believes her now.

But her cat has gone missing .... someone has been in her home ... she knows .... he's coming for her.

Fearful for her life, Cadence runs headlong into one of the worst snowstorms to hit in years. She's stranded, freezing and alone but help comes from an unexpected source... a stranger happens by.

Should she trust him?

This was not what I expected when I grabbed a copy of a Kate Watterson novel. Having read all her Ellie McIntosh series, I was eager to read what I thought was another one of the series. It is not ....

What I got was a well-written romantic suspense full of great characters with a few surprises thrown in the mix. The voices come from not only Cadence, but a female FBI Agent who is looking for a serial killer who has her own agenda, and the killer, as well.

Many thanks to the author / Crooked Lane Books / Netgalley for the advanced digital copy of this Romantic Suspense. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

"She had to get a grip on herself. There was no doubt about it. It had all been bad enough: her unplanned abrupt flight from Indy, the roundabout and unfamiliar route, the onslaught of the horrendous weather, and then having to place her trust in some strange man...but when the room had suddenly gone black, it had shaken her to the very core."....

Dirk murdered Cadence’s friend Melissa back when they were in high school. She made an accusation, but he wrangled his way out of it. Years pass, and an accidental run in with the accused killer starts a renewed fear in Cadence.

Is the killer stalking her now? Thinking she can put distant between her and Dirk, she is putting herself into more danger. Caught up in a blinding snowstorm and rescued by a stranger, can she trust him? Should she keep running? Where would she go in this storm? Has the killer followed her? All questions that will cause Cadence to doubt every move she makes.

From the other point of view, Mick has rescued a stranded woman and taken her into his home. She appears to be lying about things. Can he trust her? What is she running from? Are they both in danger now? Trapped in Mick’s home, a story unfolds giving the reader a view into their past. Can anyone really be trusted? Cadence and Mick will be “Blindsided” by the truth.

The book goes back and forth with a secondary storyline of those on the hunt for a killer. The man who murdered Cadence’s friend is out there somewhere. Will he be caught so that Cadence can return home safely? The snowstorm provides for a chilling backdrop to this story. I’ve always been fascinated by Mother Nature’s events.

The storms ends and the real danger begins. Someone has been in Cadence's home. An intense suspense from start to finish. I wasn’t sure who to trust. Well written, great characters.

Thank you Kate Watterson, Netgalley, and Crooked Lane Books.

2.75 Hearts This was a difficult story to read. It has a lot of potential but it never really met it. I had a hard time connecting with the characters but especially Cadence. Many times I was reading and thinking “seriously, that wouldn’t/can’t happen that way” and it took me out of the story.

Just not a book I would recommend.

I was originally drawn to this novel by the blub. The first chapter pulled me in. And then... I don't know what happened. Perhaps it was the fact that I was not expecting there to be a romantic aspect to this story (or that said romance would overshadow everything else), but that's what happened. I could have overlooked this, had the book been more suspenseful, but it wasn't. In fact I never even felt connected to the characters. I just didn't care about them or what happened to them. There were times when the plot boarded on unrealistic, when the characters seemed super human, and when overall, it just couldn't get out of its own way. There was no real build up to the story, it just sort of plodded along until it ended.

That being considered, I'm sure there are people out there to whom this book will appeal, it just wasn't for me.

What a ride! A madman at every turn and to too-good-to-be-true savior.

This story kept me reading until finished. I started it about midday and had it finished well before bedtime, even with the many breaks life calls for -I’m a mom and wife, lots of breaks.

A little predictability in how this plays out, but it’s not boring and keeps you turning the page.

Grab it, read it, then let out that breath you’ve been holding.

FBI SA Thea Benedict is tracking a serial killer who has disappeared women. Cadence is convinced Dirk, a high school acquaintance whose girlfriend vanished 10 years ago, is stalking her. Mick takes Cadence in when she's stranded in a horrible snow storm she ran into when she (unwisely) fled Indianapolis for Wisconsin (without a real plan in her head). Ah, the romantic suspense/chase thriller! Cadence makes a number of bad decisions but is falling for Mick so incredibly quickly one of them? Well, they do share a lot of information in a short time when they're snowed in. Mick, Cadence, and Thea team up to find out who the bad guy is. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. It's a quick read which sometimes tilts toward the implausible but fans of the genre will enjoy Watterson's writing.

I chose to read "Blindsided" by Kate Watterson as suspenseful thrillers are one of my favourite genres and I was so pleased that I didn't miss out on this great novel! As my first book by this author, I found it to be full of action and with a soupçon of romance to spice things up a little. I loved the fast pacing, and the well-written plot really caught my attention, keeping me engrossed in the story, throughout. The characters were fleshed out by Kate Watterson and there was certainly a few dramatic and suspenseful moments. Highly recommended and well worth five stars!

I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel, at my own request, from Crooked Lane Books via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

Blindsided by Kate Watterson
Cadence feels she is being stalked and her life is in danger so she takes off to distance herself, gets trapped in a snowstorm with a handsome stranger but eventually has to go back and deal with what's happening, Mick goes with her and the adventure begins.... This book had it all, romance, stalking, shootings, fires and murders. It reads well, characters are fleshed out and the story is interesting, may be a bit slow at times but all in all a good summer read!
Thanks to Netgalley and the Publishers Crooked Lane for this ARC and letting me give my opinion.

I had to drag myself through this book, I just don't know why, but I wasn't able to connect with the characters or some of the situations that I felt were a bit trite. It might be a good one, but it wasn't for me.

3.5 stars!! This was a fast enjoyable read. I was immediately interested in what was happening to Cadence and the cat and mouse chase between her and a former high school classmate that she had accused of murder years before. The setting of the winter blizzard weather made for an eerie layout of what was to come later on in the story. I enjoyed the way the chapters started with the thoughts of the killer and then went into what was happening with the characters. Thank you to NetGalley, Crooked Lane Books, and Kate Watterson for the ARC!

Blindsided:A Mystery

This is a mystery entwined with a romance and for me it just didn't work. I loved the cover and the storyline sounded good, so I requested it. The story begins well. The mystery part was really good but found the romance to be distracting and made the story less cohesive, for me.
The main problem I found, were the characters lacked any personality or color, and seemed flat and dry. I found it hard to engage in either of them, the story never seem to flow. The conversations were not for me.
The plot....a woman is caught in a whiteout snowstorm, where her car gets stuck, stalls and will not start. Her phone is dead and there is no one in sight. Sounds good, right?
Then Mick comes along, and offers help and a place to stay until the storm clears....and that's when the story it starts to fail...
I do think Watterson is clever and will look forward to her next publication, but this one just left me wanting more.
Thanks Crooked Lane and the author for sending this e-book ARC.

I received an ARC of Blindsided by Kate Watterson from NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books. This is my fair and honest review.

Suspense/thrillers are one of my favorite genres to read, this was my first book from this author. I was pleasantly surprised I found the book to be well written, full of action just the right amount of romance to make that aspect of the book interesting also. I think at times we have all had that one person in our life that we just feel like something is off with them. I know that I have. I would certainly recommend this book to those that enjoy suspense/thrillers.

Ten years ago, when Cadence Lawerence was in high school and graduating with her best friend, they were living the life until her best friend went missing and her body was never found. Cadence accused her best friend's boyfriend at the time as she knew he had a temper and her friend was going to dump him that night. Now ten years later, she is with a friend in a doctor's office when she spots him. There is no way that she would never recognize him even after all these years. Spooked, she decides to take an impromptu absence of leave and drive to Wisconsin. On her way, her car breaks down, and she is picked up by a stranger who takes her to his cabin in the woods. During her time away, an FBI agent is trying to get ahold of Cadence as she has questions about the guy she accused of her friends murder as her daughter was also killed by the same man and now they have a string of deaths that could be all tied to the same guy and looks like everyone who has known him is now dead except for Cadence. Now that he has spotted Cadence, is he here to tie up loose ends as when she returns home it looks like someone is stalking her. Thank goodness, she now has her mountain man rescuer whom they have become close and started a romantic entanglement together. I did like how her friend's murder was solved eventually, but I had hoped that we would have seen more of this case in the book as it felt entirely overshadowed by the "new situation." If you are in the mood for an excellent female mystery/thriller writer in the same feel as Tess Gerritsen, Kendra Elliot then check out Kate Watterson today.
